SummersRadio™ Classic! Orbital - 'Halcyon + On + On' 'Halcyon' was first released by Orbital in 1992 on the 'Radiccio' EP. This version appeared on their second eponymous album (known as both 'Orbital 2' and the 'Brown Album') which was released in '93, and both feature a sample of Opus III's 'It's A Fine Day' - with the vocals from Kirsty Hawkshaw looped backwards! I wanted to post something classic for New Year's Eve - and I think the visuals for this song are a good reminder to enjoy all the beauty that the world has to offer us in the New Year. I hope you all have a fine night tonight - and I look forward to bringing lots of new and interesting music your way in 2011... Cheers!!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Triple X!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Triple X - 'Feel The Same 2011' (Gary Caos House Touch Remix) One of my favorite club tunes of 1999 has just been re-released with several new remixes! Triple X's 'Feel The Same' is a disco house classic that first came out on the Ministry Of Sound label - it features a sample from a track called 'You & I' from the British soul group Delegation's 1979 album called 'Eau De Vie'. This and other Delegation songs have been sampled by artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Phats & Small, Lifelike and Ice Cube! Triple X are an Italian production duo and 'Feel The Same' was a number 1 club hit in the U.K. in the summer of '99. New remixes have just been released under the title 'Feel The Same 2011' on the Rise Records label - including this one from Gary Coas... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Asino Di Medico!
SummersRadio™ Asino Di Medico! Asino Di Medico - 'Sahib' (Original Mix) So I was checking out the Sneakerz Muzik website (http://www.sneakerzmuzik.nl/) whose latest release is the Yasmin Le Bon track posted below - and I really liked the song playing on the site so I thought I'd post it as well! This monster tune called 'Sahib' is from Asino Di Medico (who is also from Holland) and was released in October - and I like it so much I'm tagging it as a last minute addition to the Best of 2010!... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Yasmin Le Bon!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Yasmin Le Bon - 'Voice Within' (Original Mix) Yasmin Le Bon (who incidentally, is not related to the vocalist of the band posted below - nor is she a supermodel) has just released a new three song EP called 'Love Is Not A Possession'. This Yasmin Le Bon was born in the Netherlands and is currently signed to Amsterdam's Sneakerz Muzik label - she is in fact the first female dj/ producer signed to the label! This is the first track on the EP called 'Voice Within'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music + Video! Duran Duran!
SummersRadio™ New Music + Video! Duran Duran - 'All You Need Is Now' Duran Duran released their new studio album (their 13th!) called 'All You Need Is Now' digitally last week, and first week sales have been surprisingly impressive after the low chart entries for 2007's 'Red Carpet Massacre' release. It seems to be doing well all over the world - except here in Canada! It debuted at #2 on itunes in both the U.K. and the U.S. and even at number one in a few European countries - so I just checked the Canadian albums chart and it sits down at #65 - a bit odd since they've generally been more popular here than in the U.S. In any case I thought that perhaps they were trying a bit too hard to sound cutting edge - or current - on 'Red Carpet Massacre'. I liked some of it, but they sound much more themselves here on this - the title track from the new album - for those fans wanting a cd the physical release will be out in February... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Cut Copy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Cut Copy - 'Take Me Over' (Thee Loving Hand Remix) Cut Copy release their third album called 'Zonoscope' in February. The cover art - which looks a bit like Niagara Falls was moved to downtown New York city - is by the late Japanese photomontage artist Tsunehisa Kimura. 'Take Me Over' is the first single from the album and this new remix is by Thee Loving Hand aka Tim Goldsworthy - Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Deadmau5 & Chris Lake!
SummersRadio™ Best of 2010! Deadmau5 & Chris Lake - 'I Said' (Michael Woods Remix) Toronto's Deadmau5 and London's Chris Lake teamed up on this single which was released in February at the height of Vancouver's Olympic mayhem - helping to make it next to impossible to get into his free performance during the 2010 winter games! The song is included on his 4x4=12 album released earlier this month, and this remix by Michael Woods is one of the finest club singles of the year... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! The Flaming Lips/ Scott Hardkiss!
SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! The Flaming Lips - 'Do You Realize?' (Scott Hardkiss Floating In Space Mix) It's true - we're all floating in space - RIGHT NOW!! Here's a wonderfully spacey remix by San Francisco's Scott Hardkiss from 2003's 'Fight Test' EP... Enjoy! ♥♥♥
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. The Flaming Lips!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring The Flaming Lips - 'Revenge' Oklahoma City's Flaming Lips are featured on the opening track of the Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse release 'Dark Night Of The Soul' - and like all other artists featured on the album - they also had a hand in composing and producing the track! 'Revenge' is a haunting tune that deals with the karma involved when seeking vengeance... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. Julian Casablancas!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring Julian Casablancas - 'Little Girl' Julian Casablancas - vocalist for The Strokes - confirmed last month that their new album was finally completed! It will contain ten songs but the title and release date are still under wraps. 'Little Girl' is featured on my 3rd favorite album of the year - 'Dark Night Of The Soul'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. Jason Lytle!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring Jason Lytle - 'Everytime I'm With You' Like 'Jaykub' posted below this track from 'Dark Night Of The Soul' features the vocals of Jason Lytle and the photos of David Lynch - in a tale about the joys of getting toasted... Cheers!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. Jason Lytle!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring Jason Lytle - 'Jaykub' 'Dark Night Of The Soul' was released in several physical formats - on a single cd, on a single LP, on a double limited heavyweight vinyl set, and in a boxed set limited to 5,000 copies. The boxed set includes 2 albums and two cd's - one each of the regular album and one each of instrumental versions of each track - along with an assortment of photo prints, cards, a poster and a booklet of David Lynch's photography. The book version came out first - and was limited to 5,000 copies as well - along with a poster and a blank cdr - fans were encouraged to download the music off the interweb while it was tied up in litigation! Along with David Lynch, former Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle is the only artist to feature on two songs on the album. This is 'Jaykub' featuring the photos of David Lynch... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. Gruff Rhys!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring Gruff Rhys - 'Just War' After much delay the collaboration between Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse - called 'present Dark Night Of The Soul' finally saw light of day with a proper release in July of this year. Delays were apparently caused by a legal dispute between EMI and Danger Mouse - but then tragically in March Mark Linkous - the leader of Sparklehorse - committed suicide so he never got to see it released. Sad indeed but the gift left behind is a masterpiece so I will feature several tracks from it - the album is an indie rock lovers paradise featuring collaborations with legends such as Frank Black and Iggy Pop. While we may not have achieved world peace this holiday season there's still next year... this is 'Just War' featuring Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals and Neon Neon - the song is accompanied by fitting visuals from a 1983 Soviet anti-war film called 'Konflict' by Garri Bardin - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Christmas Classic! Pet Shop Boys!
SummersRadio™ Christmas Classic! Pet Shop Boys - 'It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas' Part of what makes the Eric Idle and The Vandals Christmas posts so high-larious is the truth of the lyrics. This song also contains a realistic view on the holiday - but there is still plenty of spirit here... 'It Does't Often Snow At Christmas' was rare for many years - it was first released as a fan club only single in 1997. Then last year it finally saw a proper release on their five track 'Christmas' EP. Whether you celebrate Christmas or not I hope you have a great weekend - Cheers!!!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Young Canadians!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Young Canadians - 'Hawaii' So here's a fine example of why Vancouver's Art Bergmann - who plays the homeless gentleman in the Luxury Bob video below - is considered a Canadian punk legend! And if you want to completely get Christmas out of your mind for a couple minutes this will do the trick - an energetic number clearly in support of traveling - this is 'Hawaii'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Luxury Bob!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Luxury Bob - 'Really Nice Guy' Luxury Bob are an indie-folk-pop act from Toronto. 'Really Nice Guy' first appeared as a demo on a Hi-Hat Recordings label compilation last year. The finished version and video was released in February of this year - the first time I posted this was actually Valentine's Day! It was fitting as it's a tale of a girl falling in love - but with a slight twist - as the object of her affection is a homeless man.
So I'm posting it now because it's definitely one of my most favorite songs of 2010 - but of course it's also Christmas Eve. I've only posted two holiday songs thus far this year - Eric Idle's 'Fuck Christmas' and The Vandals 'Hang Myself From The Tree' so that gives you an idea of my feelings on all the hoopla! It's not the day itself per se - it's the fact that we're brainwashed with it for two months prior year after year - and let's face it - a lot of people just aren't really into it or don't celebrate it at all. However, one good thing that comes out of the season is sort of the reminder for all of us to be thankful for what we have - and to remind us to help out those who have not. The homeless gent in this video is played by Vancouver punk and alternative rock legend Art Bergmann. 'Really Nice Guy' will be featured on Luxury Bob's new album called 'in flagrante delico' which is due out in the new year. I love the all the lyrics in this song - but my favorite line is 'he lights up when I mention music' - so do I... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Scissor Sisters!
SummersRadio™ Best of 2010! Scissor Sisters - 'Invisible Light' (Boys Noize Remix) New York's Scissor Sisters released their third studio album called "Night Work' in June. Although it wasn't the first single, around the same time a 12" version of this song surfaced on the interweb remixed by Stuart Price. It's a great remix but then in July German dj and producer Alexander Ridha - better known as Boys Noize - got his hands on it and we have this darker take on it - but still a massive club stomper... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Faithless!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Faithless - 'Not Going Home' Faithless released their sixth studio album in May called 'The Dance'. Their goal according to vocalist Maxi Jazz was to return to the old, with an eye on the future - and they certainly succeeded with this tune - I believe it to be their best single in some years! 'Not Going Home' was released as the second single from the album along with a number of remixes but I still like this original the best. It has this sense of urgency to it sound wise - which fits perfectly with the lyrics - although Maxi Jazz is walking a fine line between between admirer and stalker in this one... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! LCD Soundsystem - 'Home' LCD Soundsystem released their third full length studio album called 'This Is Happening' in May - and it ranked at # 2 on my Top 10 Albums of 2010 list! Although 'Home' hasn't officially been released as a single it is one of only two songs from the album that has had an official video made so far. I think that robots are a pretty cool thing to have in a video - and this one knows how to party - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Zero 7 - 'Destiny' (Fred Falke Remix) Zero 7 released their first singles compilation in June called 'Record - Best Of'. It's available in several formats including a 16 track single cd version, and in the U.K. there's a 2 cd bonus disc deluxe version available that contains an additional 14 remixes. The digital version has a whopping 43 tracks - all 30 songs from the double cd plus 4 additional remixes and 9 videos! 'Destiny' first appeared on their debut 'Simple Things' and was released as a single in the summer of 2001. SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Top 10 Albums!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010 - Top 10 Albums! The Chemical Brothers - 'Escape Velocity' from 'Further' So since I have an account with the blog of all music blogs - The Hype Machine (http://hypem.com/) I was sent an e-mail suggesting that I submit a list of my Top 10 Albums Of 2010 for a chance to be featured on their annual 'Music Blog Zeitgeist' which launches on Jan. 3rd! Now this would be pretty cool I must say - but I've been posting my Best Of 2010 list by tracks, since many songs - and even more remixes - aren't even on proper albums. However if I was to commit to a list of my favorite (and let's be honest - all best of lists are favorites - be it of an individual or what is thought to be popular opinion) I suspect that my list would look something quite resembling this...
Now I agonized a fair bit over my choice for the number one album - as one and two are so very close for me - they were both total 'summer' albums - they both have solid tracklistings. 'This Is Happening' certainly has more going on lyrically - but the Chems arguably have more going on sonically - and yet the sparse lyrics they do have make for great hooks. It was a tough decision - but if I had to consider which one truly was my official summer album it was 'Further'. Picture it - Vancouver 2010 - warm summer afternoons. As I look out the window overlooking the beach and English Bay, the spinning disco ball in the livingroom is illuminated only by the sun's light - it's diamond shapes reflecting on the walls and shining through a slight bit of smoke brought on by B.C.'s finest export - and this song is playing in the background - it was perfect. There were some days when I just let the album play over 3 times in a row - and there aren't many albums you can do that with. Sadly 'Further' has been their least successful album commercially - their five previous albums all hit number one in the U.K. but this one didn't even chart due to one of the many rules in the British chart system. It also appears to be their first studio album not to go gold or platinum anywhere in the world - thus far. So perhaps 15 years on from their first album they're underdogs of sorts now - but I hereby declare this to be their finest album since 1999's pre-millennium opus 'Surrender'!
So I present now both my favorite track from 'Further' - 'Escape Velocity' - a 12 minute epic and obvious partial tribute to The Who's 'Baba O'Riley' (which is pretty electronically based if you think about it) edited down here to ten minutes to fit youtube's requirements - AND my list of Top 10 Albums Of 2010! This video is amazing too - I love the part about 8 minutes in that totally encapsulates the feeling of moving through the dancefloor at a big party - or dare I say it - rave! Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Chemical Brothers! (Official Video)
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Chemical Brothers - 'Horse Power' (Official Video) One of the things that put the Chemical Brothers album 'Further' above the rest for me was the accompanying dvd. Although the band has always had great visuals - both live and for their individual singles - for the first time they also released a dvd containing videos specifically made for each and every track - in one continuous mix as they are on the album! So in addition to the remix I wanted to post this version of 'Horse Power' as well for those of you who haven't seen the video. This isn't your typical 'wooden horse' - it's fully brought to life in this hypnotic piece... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Chemical Brothers - Horse Power (Popof Remix) The Chemical Brothers released their seventh studio album called 'Further' in June. Later in August they released a number of remixes - four online - and three of them on a limited 12". There were two of 'Swoon' (from Boys Noize and Lindstrom & Prins Thomas) and one of 'Dissolve' (by Bloody Beetroots - digitally only). Also included was this one of 'Horse Power' by Paris's Popof, who punches it up just enough to make a good song great - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! OMD!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! O.M.D. - 'History Of Modern (Part 1)' For the first time in 14 years Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark released a new album - and it's also the first time since 1989 that it included both founding members Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys! They first reformed in 2007, and after two years of sellout tours they released their new album entitled 'History Of Modern' on Sept. 20th. They've released two official singles so far - 'If You Want It' and 'Sister Marie Says' - but I think this track is way stronger. It sounds very modern but at the same time like classic OMD - if they don't release this as the next single they're totally missing out on a potential hit - plus I'd love to see some remixes of this one! This is part 1 of the two part title track 'History Of Modern' - and it's most certainly one of my favorites songs of 2010... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Cover! OMD!
SummersRadio™ New Cover! OMD - 'VCR' Somewhat surprisingly The xx cite Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark - better known as OMD - as one of their influences. Perhaps in a show of mutual admiration OMD have recently released a cover of The xx's 'VCR'! The synths make it sound like it easily could have sat along side 'Joan Of Arc' on their classic 1981 album 'Architecture & Morality' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! The xx - 'Crystalised' (Rory Phillips Remix) Like The xx, Rory Phillips is a Londoner - and this remix came out last year. While The xx have their appeal I still found them a bit lethargic overall initially - but I credit this particular remix by Rory Phillips (followed by many others of course) for making me see them in a different light! As this came out in 2009 it won't be tagged as part of the Best Of 2010 - but it is a modern classic - and if you missed it the first time around I also highly recommend checking out the Slyde remix of this song posted on Nov. 15th - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The xx - Remixed!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The xx - 'Stars' (LAZRtag Remix) The xx are an indie rock band from London that met while studying at Elliot School - other notable musicians who've studied there include Burial, Hot Chip, and Four Tet! Their self titled debut album was released in August 2009 and it won the Mercury Music Prize this September. While the album itself came out last year, 2010 was the year of remixes for The xx, with a number of producers turning their low-fi whispery tunes into full on club classics. While most remixes are unofficial, I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see a proper remix album released sometime in the future, as there are a lot of great transformations out there... this is 'Stars' remixed by L.A.'s LAZRtag - which came out in June - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The School!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The School - 'Is He Really Coming Home?' Unlike The Like The School goes for a more early 60's dreamy romantic pop sound on this one. The School is a new band from Wales - not to be confused with a band with the same name from Norway! I first posted this song in April (via the FB group) and they released their debut full length album entitled 'Loveless Unbeliever' in May the U.K. (it's available only digitally in Canada). The record is produced by Ian Catt, perhaps best known for producing Saint Etienne and being a touring member of the band. There are certainly some similarities between this and Saint Etienne circa their 'Good Humor' period. This is quite simply pop perfection - I ♥ it - enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The Like!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The Like - 'Wishing He Was Dead' L.A.'s The Like released their second album entitled 'Release Me' in June. I don't believe that any artist can be completely original by nature. In my studies of humans I have found them to be sponge like - automatically absorbing everything around them. Thus any creator of music is influenced by everything that's come before them - every piece of music they've ever heard. Sometimes bands use their influences subtly, sometimes they choose to fully embrace a particular sound they love. Both this song and the one below from Tony Gatorra vs. Gruff Rhys are a homage to 60's rock - and it's executed perfectly in both this dark pop number and it's black and white video from The Like about a cheating boyfriend... SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Tony Da Gatorra vs. Gruff Rhys!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Tony Da Gatorra vs. Gruff Rhys - 'In A House With No Mirrors (You'll Never Get Old)' On July 26th in the U.K. Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals - and more recently Neon Neon - fame released another side project under the guise 'Tony Da Gatorra vs. Gruff Rhys' with a brilliantly titled album called 'The Terror Of Cosmic Loneliness'. Apparently Tony Da Gatorra is a Brazilian tv & vcr repairman who has fashioned his own instrument in the form of a 'Gatorra' - a cross between a guitar and a drum machine - I'm not making this up! I first posted this (via the FB group) on it's day of release - which was coincidentally the day before my birthday... it rocks - and I found it comforting! :) Enjoy!

Spiller featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor - 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)' Sophie Ellis-Bextor first gained fame in 1997 as the lead vocalist for the indie band theaudience, who subsequently broke up at the end of 1998. In 2000 her vocals and lyrics were added to the then-instrumental track by Italain dj Spiller called 'Groovejet' - which relies heavily on a sample from the sublime 1977 disco club classic called 'Love Is You' by Carol Williams. The song entered the U.K. charts at number one, and it also reached number one in several other countries - selling over 2 million copies - setting the stage for her solo career. The track also holds the distinction as being the first song ever played on an ipod! This is Spiller featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Sophie Ellis-Bextor!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Sophie Ellis-Bextor - 'Bittersweet' (Jodie Harsh Remix) Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to release her fourth studio album called 'Make A Scene' in April. While the album is still 4 months away there have already been four songs released as singles that are included on it! It will feature her excellent 2009 hit with the Freemasons - 'Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)', 'Can't Fight This Feeling' - a collaboration with Junior Caldera which was released as a single in France in January, 'Not Giving Up On Love' - a collaboration with Armin Van Buuren which was released in August - and this one 'Bittersweet' which came out in May. It's going to be almost like a greatest hits album of new material! Like any great club tune what really makes this one stand out for me is the production - this remix from London dj Jodie Harsh is certainly one of my favorites of 2010... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Depeche Mode!
SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Depeche Mode - 'Peace' (Japanese Popstars Remix) The Gorillaz post below got me thinking of my favorite Japanese Popstars remix - this one of Depeche Mode's single 'Peace' released in 2009 - the first time I heard this in a club I was blown away by the production... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Gorillaz!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Gorillaz - 'On Melancholy Hill' (Japanese Popstars Remix) Damon Albarn's musical project Gorillaz released their third studio album called 'Plastic Beach' in March. While it hasn't sprouted any big hits like 'Dare' or 'Feel Good Inc.' this version of 'On Melancholy Hill' by Northern Ireland's Japanese Popstars released in July ranks among the years finest remixes for me... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Goldfrapp!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Goldfrapp - 'Believer' (Joris Voorn Remix) London duo Goldfrapp released their fifth studio album called 'Head First' in March. 'Believer' was released as the third single in September along with seven new remixes - including this one from Amsterdam based Dutch dj and producer Joris Voorn. This driving hypnotic remix reminds me a bit of Crystal Waters 1993 house classic '100% Pure Love'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Unkle!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Unkle - 'Heavy Drug' (Surrender Sounds Mix) Rare is it that I would call a song a classic that was less than a year and a half old - but this one is! 'Heavy Drug' was the first single released from Unkle's 'Where Did The Night Fall' album. This version was first available online last summer so I did not tag it under the 'Best Of 2010' although one could perhaps argue that it's eligible - as the song does appear on the album released in May - although in a ridiculously short form (1:13)! Also the full 'Heavy Drug' EP with multiple remixes came out on Dec. 27th of last year - by which time most year end lists have already been published. Semantics aside, I wanted to post it for those who haven't heard this version yet - it's 8 plus minutes of electronic - and if you choose to do so - dancing bliss... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Unkle Featuring The Black Angels!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Unkle Featuring The Black Angels - 'Natural Selection' Unkle released their fifth proper studio album 'Where Did The Night Fall' in May. 'Natural Selection' was the second single - and as is often the case with Unkle, the album features a number of collaborations - this one with The Black Angels. While the song is more about the hunt for love, this video by L.A. director Isaac Klotz centers around the hunt for food. It gives me a craving for a zebra burger - with cheese of course! Naturally I jest... they probably taste the same as pony anyway - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Bjork!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Bjork - 'Big Time Sensuality' (Dom. T's Big Time Club Mix) 'Big Time Sensuality' was released as the fourth single from Bjork's first solo cd called 'Debut' in 1993. This remix by Dom T. was featured on the original limited U.K. 12" and part two of the cd single - yet it still sounds very current! And as a bonus this new fan made video posted just days ago layers the original and adds some trippy effects... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Bjork!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Bjork - 'The Comet Song' It's perhaps more the video and the fact that this song was written especially for the new 3D movie 'Moomins And The Comet Chase' than just the song itself that makes this one of my favorites of the year - this is no 'Big Time Sensuality' or 'It's Oh So Quiet' - but I love Moomins!!! Apparently Bjork is also a big fan of Tove Jansson's childrens books - they were my favorite when I was a wee lad - someday I want to go to Moomin Valley and visit the Moomin house! The stop motion film has been remade from a tv series that ran in the late 70's and early 80's and it was released in Finland in August - and there are plans in the works to also produce it in over a dozen languages for a full worldwide release. Only Bjork could get away with performing a song for a childrens movie that uses the word 'dammit' several times and mentions childrens graves - but somehow it all seems to fit - this is 'The Comet Song'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Oh Land!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Oh Land 'Sun Of A Gun' (Yuksek Remix) 25 year old Nanna Oland Fabricius better known as Oh Land is originally from Denmark but she has recently relocated to Brooklyn. Her first album called 'Fauna' was released in 2008 (available digitally in Canada) and her second album is due out in the new year. 'Sun Of A Gun' is the first single and I reckon this remix by Yuksek is one of the year's finest... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year? The Vandals!
SummersRadio™ The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year! The Vandals - 'Hang Myself From The Tree' The Vandals released 'Oi To The World! Christmas With The Vandals' in 1996. Featuring original songs with titles like 'Thankx For Nothing', 'My First Christmas (As A Woman)', 'Grandpa's Last Christmas' and 'Christmas Time For My Penis' - it's a great alternative to the same standards you hear year after year! This is my favorite one from the album - 'Hang Myself From The Tree'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Arcade Fire Remix! + Free Download!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Arcade Fire Remix + Free Download! Arcade Fire - 'Sprawl II' (Dirty McKenzie Remix) I doubt Arcade Fire will be hard to find on year lists in 2010 - however, this post is the full package! Hopefully someday 'Sprawl II' will be officially released as a proper single from their third studio album 'The Suburbs' - with remixes! In the meantime many unofficial remixes have been made since I first posted this track in the summer (via my FB group) - but I like this remix because it's subtle - they discofy it just a bit and take it closer into Blondie territory. I've mentioned this before but someone totally needs to do a full on 'Heart Of Glass' style remix and/ or mashup of this - make it so! (but credit me for the idea please) :) In addition to this cool remix the song is accompanied by a fan vacation video that shows Beirut in a way that you never see on tv - AND if this remix is to your liking you can also get a free download of it here courtesy of Dirty McKenzie: http://bass-united.com/ Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The Kissaway Trail!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The Kissaway Trail - 'New Lipstick' The Kissaway Trail are an indie rock band from Odense Denmark. They released their second full length album in March called 'Sleep Mountain'. They've toured with Interpol and The National and they cite the Beach Boys, Sonic Youth - and one of my all time favorites Grandaddy - as musical influences! This song is called 'New Lipstick' and I think if you dig Arcade Fire that this song just might be to your liking - plus it has a cool video as well... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Sufjan Stevens!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Sufjan Stevens - 'Futile Devices' Sufjan Stevens released his new studio album (his 8th) called 'The Age Of Adz' just about two months ago on Oct. 12th. This is definitely one of his more electronic leaning albums - and it's said to have been inspired by the apocalyptic artwork of schizophrenic artist Royal Robertson! This is the beautiful opening track called 'Futile Devices' about the difficulties of using words to express yourself... humans! Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! + Free Download! Canyons!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Canyons - 'My Rescue' (Dr. Dunks Disco Extension) Canyons are a duo from Sydney Australia and they've just released their debut single called 'My Rescue' on Modular Recordings! It's comes digitally with several remixes and it will also be released on a very limited 12" single. If this remix is to your liking you can download a copy for free courtesy of Modular here: http://soundcloud.com/modularpeople/canyons-my-rescue-dr-dunks-disco-extension I really like this remix by Dr. Dunks (aka Eric Duncan of Rub N Tug fame) - I'm actually quite tempted to tag this under my Best Of 2010 section - but I'll wait a few more days to decide first... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Massive Attack Featuring Hope Sandoval!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Massive Attack Featuring Hope Sandoval - 'Paradise Circus' (Gui Boratto Remix) Massive Attack released their fifth proper studio album 'Heligoland' in February. 'Paradise Circus' was the first single and features the vocals of Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star fame - who has also released two albums with her newer band The Warm Inventions. She has lent her unique vocals to many other great artists as well including the Chemical Brothers, Death In Vegas, Jesus & Mary Chain, Air - and of course Massive Attack! This remix by Brazilian producer Gui Boratto was also released in February - he takes the song into dancier territory while also expanding on the spaciousness of the original... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Brenda Lee Remix!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Brenda Lee - 'I'm Sorry' (Woodhead & Blenda Remix) This song beats the Jesus & Mary Chain's cover of 'Surfin' U.S.A.' as the oldest song I've posted a cover or remix of thus far! 'I'm Sorry' is Brenda Lee's signature song and it hit number one in the summer of 1960 when she was only 15! She is also very well known for her 1958 holiday classic 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' which initially only sold about 5,000 copies in '58 and when re-released in '59 - but after the success of 'I'm Sorry' and it's third holiday release in 1960 it has since gone on to sell over 5 million copies! On a headline tour of the U.K. in the early sixties her opening act was none other than the (then) little known group from Liverpool posted below - the Beatles!
This remix by Woodhead and Blenda was released in April. Woodhead is a Vancouver dj and producer who is also a resident at Signal Saturdays at the Lotus. What makes this such a great remix is perhaps what an unlikely combination it seems to be. Although now that I think about it - both this and 'Eleanor Rigby' are from the 60's - and feature prominent string arrangements - and both fit together perfectly! This one came first though and while 4center goes for a monstrous sound this one is pretty chill - resulting in one of the finest and most unique remixes of the year - dubstep or otherwise - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Beatles Remix! + Free Download!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Beatles - 'Eleanor Rigby' (4centers Dubstep Remix) 2010 has seen producers and remixers making dubstep remixes of songs from all genres - both from the present - and the past! The Beatles released 'Eleanor Rigby' - which featured a double string quartet arrangement by George Martin - in August of 1966 and it was one of their first recordings to move from a pop to a more experimental sound. 4centers is aka Matthew Madonna and is also part of a duo known as Love And Light who are based in Reno, Nevada. This remix surfaced on the interweb in May and it takes that experimental sound to a 'whole nutha level'! Interestingly it doesn't just sample some of the vocals - they're all intact - with some amazing effects added - and the wobbly sounds work well with the original strings... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Freestylers Feat. Belle Humble!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Freestylers Featuring Belle Humble - 'Cracks' (Ctrl Z Remix) While dubstep has been growing steadily in popularity for years it really hit the mainstream in 2010. Today I'll feature a couple of my favorite dubstep tracks/ remixes of the year - 'Cracks' was released in the summer on London's Never Say Die Records label. The label's first release was in Nov. 09 and they've already had 3 of their seven records released to date hit number one on the Beatport dubstep and breakbeat charts! What really sets this song above the rest for me is the beautiful vocals of Belle Humble - and the great production overall of course. I like this official video as well - the sensitive cute dude needs to realize that his lady friend is a bit of a bully... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - 'Get Better' While 'Sick Tonight' has obvious drum and bass influences they go for a more New Order synth style sound on this track 'Get Better' - which was the first single released from 'The Logic Of Chance'. Once again I think that their lyrics are brilliant - a couple of my favorite of many great lines/ observations in this one are 'Little kids being raised by slightly bigger kids' and 'I see small town syndrome growing in size'. This video was directed by longtime British music video director Richard Heslop who's very first video was The Smiths 'The Queen Is Dead'! He's also worked with The Cure, Sinead O'Conner, Queen, Happy Mondays, Curve, The Shamen, Suede and even New Order... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - 'Sick Tonight' Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip seem rather underrated even in the U.K., and sadly they're virtually unknown in North America. Their second album called 'The Logic Of Chance' was released in March in the U.K. - and although released digitally it has yet to see a physical release here.
They are a hip hop duo from Corringham and Essex respectively that combine electronic beats from quite a range of different styles. They also have clever lyrics - I like Dan's personal take on religion in this one - 'They say Jesus died for somebody's sins but God knows he didn't die for mine, Coz I'll stand accountable for my own damn sins each and every time'. They released 3 great singles and videos from 'The Logic Of Chance' - this one was the second, called 'Sick Tonight' - vomit has never looked so sparkly and cool... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Eric Prydz vs Floyd - 'Proper Education' (Extended Club Remix) I was lucky enough to see Roger Waters perform 'The Wall' in it's entirety live last night here in Vancouver and all I can say is WOW! I've been to countless concerts but it's rare to feel that that you're witnessing such a truly historical piece of music history - it was amazing! This remix by Swedish dj and producer Eric Prydz was officially released on Jan. 5 2007 and not surprisingly was a massive hit reaching #2 in the U.K. - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Friendly Fires!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Friendly Fires - 'Strangelove' 'Strangelove' was Depeche Mode's 18th single in the U.K. - released in 1987 (88 in North America) - and was from their brilliant 'Music For The Masses' album. This August Friendly Fires recorded the song for use in a Gucci Guilty perfume ad in the U.K. I was a bit weary when I first heard about this - but it's a grower - their cover is faithful enough to the original to be respectable but also different enough to be interesting... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Depeche Mode!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Depeche Mode - 'Hole To Feed' (Popof Vocal Mix) 'Hole To Feed' (coupled with 'Fragile Tension') was the third single released from Depeche Mode's 'Sounds Of The Universe' album - and their 48th single overall! December is generally the month with the fewest new releases - and since 99% of people compile their year end lists before the year has actually ended - it's not uncommon for December releases to show up the following year. Such is the case here - 'Fragile Tension/ Hole To Feed' was technically released Dec. 8th/ 09 - but it's still apt to be part of the Best Of 2010! This is an excellent remix by Popof - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! + Free Legal Download! Vandroid - 'Master & Slave' (Yuksek Remix) This song first surfaced in early Oct. remixed by Van She - there's still not much info around on this 'soundtrack' which probably isn't even from a real movie! The project involves France's Fred Falke and Nic Nicola and apparently it's actually part of a forthcoming concept album by some of the world's finest vintage style electronic producers. SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Crystal Castles - 'Celestica' (Alcala Remix) Toronto's Crystal Castles released their second album (and their second self titled!) in May - which was later nominated for the Canadian Polaris Music Prize. SummersRadio™ Best of 2010! Orbital - 'Don't Stop Me' Orbital released their first new material since 2004 in June - 2 new songs released digitally and on a limited 12' single. SummersRadio™ Classic! Lush!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Lush Featuring Jarvis Cocker - 'Ciao!' The new Discodeine song posted below reminded me of another great song that Jarvis Cocker shared vocals on - this duet from Lush's 1996 album 'Lovelife'. The brutal honesty captured on this breakup classic is on the level of the Pogues & Kristy MacColl's 'Fairytale Of New York' - although they're clearly bitter with hurt you can tell that they still really love each other. This SO should have been released as a single but sadly it never was - I suspect that they didn't want to interfere with the singles schedule for Pulp's 'Different Class' - great tune though... SummersRadio™ New Remix! Martin Solveig Feat. Dragonette - 'Hello' (Sidney Samson Remix) The original version of this song and it's priceless video is one of the finest releases of the year - but I also like how Dutch DJ Sidney Samson takes it into acid house/ techno territory... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ James Figurine!
SummersRadio™ James Figurine - 'Apologies' Perhaps my favorite of Jimmy Tamborello's many projects is his album 'Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake' under the James Figurine moniker. It was released in 2006 on the Plug Research label - this is 'Apologies' - a great song with an equally cool video... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Dntel featuring Ben Gibbard!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Dntel - 'Dream Of Evan And Chan' (Superpitcher Kompakt Remix) This song is from Dntel's 2001 album 'Life Is Full Of Possibilities'. What makes it a classic is that this track features vocals and lyrics from Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard - and it was this collaboration that led to the forming of the Postal Service and their debut release in 2003. This version is from the single released in 2002 - the 'Superpircher Kompakt Remix'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Dntel!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Dntel - 'After Parties' Dntel is L.A. resident Jimmy Tamborello - who also records under the name James Figurine - and is also half of the Postal Service! He's releasing the first new Dntel music since 2007's 'Dumb Luck' next week called 'After Parties'. It contains 8 tracks - all instrumental! It's available on two 12"'s, and in the words of his label Sub Pop also as "weightless, odorless digital audio files" but not on cd! This is the first and title track... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year? Eric Idle!
SummersRadio™ The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year! Eric Idle - 'Fuck Christmas' Monty Python's Eric Idle recorded this song during his 2008 'Greedy Bastard' tour. Don't get me wrong - I love Rankin/ Bass's 1964 stop motion classic - and I have nothing against vertically challenged toymakers - but having 2 months out of every year dedicated to brainwashing people into celebrating a one day holiday can be a bit much... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! John Tejada - 'Sweat (On The Walls)' (Martin Landsky Remix) This song was first released in 2004 on the Poker Flat Recordings label - now they've just re-released it as a single with new remixes including this one from Martin Landsky... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade!
SummersRadio™ M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade - 'Donut' (James Talk Remix) This track was first released in 2008 - appearing on the Get Physical Music label's compilation called 'GPM 100' in celebration of their 100th release! It was then released as a single with remixes earlier this year - and it also appears on Booka Shade's latest album 'More!' in an edited form known as 'Donut (Interpretation)' - this is the James Talk Remix... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Booka Shade!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Booka Shade - 'Regenerate' (Pan-Pot Remix) Germany's Booka Shade have just released 'Regenerate' as the third single from their fourth album called 'More!' which was released in May. SummersRadio™ Classic! The Raveonettes!
SummersRadio™ Classic! The Raveonettes - 'Twilight' Like Trentemoller, The Raveonettes hail from Denmark - although they certainly sound more akin to The Jesus And Mary Chain - but all three tracks here are suitable for surfing and/ or partying! This song (which totally should have been released as a single with remixes!) is from their second full length album released in 2005 called 'Pretty In Black'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Cover! The Jesus And Mary Chain!
SummersRadio™ Classic Cover! The Jesus And Mary Chain - 'Surfin' USA' That Trentemoller song gave me a hankering for some more surf music - SummersRadio™ style! The Beach Boys first released 'Surfin U.S.A'. in 1963 - this version by Scotland's Jesus And Mary Chain can be found on their 1988 compilation of b-sides and rarities called 'Barbed Wire Kisses'. This feedback fueled version comes complete with a trippy fan made video... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Trentemoller!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Trentemoller - 'Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!!' (Trentemoller Remix) Denmark's Anders Trentemoller has just released 'Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!!' as the third single off his second studio album 'Into The Great Wide Yonder', which was released in May. The EP includes the album version and 3 remixes - from Andrew Weatherall, Lulu Rouge and Abdullah S, and this one from Trentemoller himself! This mix is like half a century of styles in one song - it's part 60's surf music, with 70's Giorgio Moroder style disco, 80's industrial, and 90's indie dance rock - all brought into the 21st century... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Fantastic Plastic Machine!
SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Fantastic Plastic Machine - 'Love Is Psychedelic' (Bob Sinclar Remix) Like Shinichi Osawa, Japan's Tanaka Tomoyki aka Fantastic Plastic Machine is also associated with Avex - one of Japan's leading entertainment groups. They have also collaborated together recently under the name 'Ravex' to mark 20 years of the Avex record label. The original version of this song was included on Fantastic Plastic Machine's 2001 album 'Beautiful' but it was this remix by Bob Sinclar that brought the song to new heights to create an unforgettable club classic... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Shinichi Osawa!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Shinichi Osawa Feat. Tommie Sunshine - 'Love Will Guide You' (Edwin Van Cleef Remix) Japan's Shinichi Osawa aka Mondo Grosso released his most recent album called 'SO2' in June - and later this week he is set to release a new collection of remixes appropriately titled 'SO2 Remixes'! This version of 'Love Will Guide You' was previously only available as a edit just over 3 minutes long on a mix cd - but this full length version was posted online just a few hours ago... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Etienne De Crecy!
0, SummersRadio™ New Remix! Etienne De Crecy - 'No Brain' (Munk Remix) I posted the 'TAI Remix' of this a couple weeks ago but I think I like this one even better. It's more housey than electro - and it has a nice swagger to it... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Video! Hardfloor!
SummersRadio™ New Video! Hardfloor - 'Silver Submarine' Hardfloor have just released the official video for the first single from their new album called 'Two Guys Three Boxes'. My post on Nov. 10th for the 12" teaser of 'Silver Submarine' has been quite popular so I thought I'd post the new video as well. Looks like they were going for a low budget porno look here - complete with a 'hot' ironing scene! There aren't too many of those in music videos... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! The Human League!
SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! The Human League - 'Filling Dub With Heaven' (Hardfloor Remix) It's no wonder that The Human League decided to take a break after 2001's 'Secrets' album. The timing seemed perfect - just as electroclash was gaining popularity - and many critics hailed it as their best since 'Dare'. However sadly their record label at the time Papillon had financial problems and they were shut down shortly after the albums release, leading to poor promotion and sales. The band nearly called it a day but they've stuck together and they've since had numerous successful tours. 'Filling Up With Heaven' was the third single released from their 1995 comeback album 'Octopus' and this dub version was remixed by Hardfloor... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! The Human League!
SummersRadio™ 2 For 1 Remix Sunday! The Human League - 'Night People' (Emperor Machine Remix) 'Night People' is the first single from the Human League's new forthcoming studio album - their ninth - entitled 'Credo' which is due for release in March. It is their first new album in a decade - since 2001's 'Secrets'. This remix hasn't been released yet - this is a radio rip - so I suspect that further remix packages are forthcoming in addition to the limited 12" mentioned below. Emperor Machine goes for a total Giorgio Moroder sound here... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Human League - 'Night People' (Cerrone Club Mix) The Human League are back! They've just released their first new single in nine years called 'Night People'! SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Radiohead!
SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Radiohead - 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)' (Funkagenda Remix) The clips from this video featured in the Primal Scream video below reminded me of this amazing remix. Remixing this song could have been a complete disaster (and it has been - I'd recommend steering clear of the others that are out there) but this one's got class! Funkagenda released this as a limited 12" in 2008 - and a fan has looped the video to make it last nearly seven minutes as well... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Primal Scream!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Primal Scream - 'Higher Than The Sun' (A Dub Symphony In Two Parts) This is an interesting fan made video for this track wonderfully produced by Andrew Weatherall from 'Screamadelica' - it doesn't feature the band at all - it's mostly clips from other artists videos such as Kate Bush, Radiohead and Blur to name a few. It's an odd idea on paper but they're all cool artists and they're mostly trippy visuals so it actually works... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Primal Scream!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Primal Scream - 'Come Together' Primal Scream have just announced that they will be releasing a 20th Anniversary Edition of their seminal 1991 album 'Screamadelica' - and it will be remastered by the band and My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields! This is one of my top five favorite albums of all time so this is pretty exciting news!
The regular version of 'Screamadelica 20' will be 2 discs - the second disc consisting of the 'Dixie Narco' EP. There's also going to be an elaborate collector's edition available that will come with four remastered cd's and a gatefold vinyl release of their 'Live In L.A. 1992' recording. Also included is a remastered version of their 'Dixie Narco' EP and best of all a cd of remixes!! And if that's not enough there will also be a dvd documentary called 'The Making Of Screamadelica' and a 50 page book, a 12" slipmat featuring the cover art, a tour t-shirt and 5 art cards. It also includes a brand new car! Ok maybe not the car, but wow! There's a limited 'White Box' edition available from the band - limited to 500 copies - and the first 100 will be signed by the band! The heartbreaking part is that they're not making it available to fans in North America for some reason - sob! But for those of you who are in eligible countries you can preorder now from here: http://www.screamadelica20.com/gb/splash/
If you're not eligible to order the 'White Box' version you can also preorder the 'regular' Collector's Edition (instead of a numbered white box the goodies are enclosed in a package resembling the album cover) here:
http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1;-1&sku=708911
These new 'Screamadelica 20' versions will be released on March 7th - only 99 more days! This is the only proper video released from the album - 'Come Together' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Cover! Curve!
SummersRadio™ Curve - 'I Feel Love' This version of Donna Summer's 1977 disco/ electronic classic produced by Giorgio Moroder was hard to find for many years as it was initially only released on the limited edition 3cd set called 'Ruby Trax' - which was released in celebration of the NME's 40th anniversary! It was released in 1992 and featured 40 of the coolest artists at the time doing a cover of their favorite number one song of the last 40 years! It was an amazing compilation but it's long out of print, however the song can now be found on Curve's double best of collection called 'The Way Of Curve 1990/ 2004' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ School Of Seven Bells!
SummersRadio™ School Of Seven Bells - 'Babelonia' School Of Seven Bells consists of Benjamin Curtis (former member of Secret Machines) and identical twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza (formerly of On!Air!Library!) - although it was announced just last month on their Facebook page that Claudia has left the band for personal reasons. They released their second album entitled 'Disconnect From Desire' on July 13th. This track is perhaps my favorite from the album called 'Babelonia'- it has a dreamy indie rock sound reminiscent of the shoegazer sound of bands like Curve and early Lush - Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Video! School Of Seven Bells!
SummersRadio™ New Video! School Of Seven Bells - 'I L U' School of Seven Bells will be returning to Vancouver to perform on Jan. 27th at the Orpheum - opening for Interpol! They've just released the new video for the latest single from their second album called 'Disconnect From Desire' called 'I L U' - and it has a puppet show in it! It's equal parts romantic, beautiful, dark and kinda creepy - just like love - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bernard Sumner + Hot Chip + Hot City!
SummersRadio™ New Video! Bernard Sumner, Hot Chip & Hot City - 'Didn't Know What Love Was' Like Massive Attack, Hot Chip have previously worked with the War Child charity, by contributing to last year's 'Heroes' album, where they covered Joy Division's 'Transmission' track. Now here they are recording with Joy Division/ New Order's Bernard Sumner - however this time around they're hawking sneakers! This is the new video for this unique collaboration between Mr. Sumner, Hot Chip, and London's dj/ remix duo Hot City. This was recorded exclusively for Converse and is the latest in a series - the next one is reported to include Blur's Graham Coxon and the former guitarist of the Coral... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Massive Attack!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Massive Attack - 'Atlas Air' (Tim Goldsworthy Remix) Massive Attack have released a new EP online and on limited edition 12" (available through The Vinyl Factory) called 'Atlas Air'! It contains the album version of 'Atlas Air' from their 'Heligoland' release, along with remixes from Tim Goldsworthy and Jneiro Jarel, and a remix of the previously unreleased track 'Redlight' by Clark. All proceeds from the sale of the EP go to the War Child charity, who help kids in areas of conflict such as Bosnia and Sarajevo. This is the new Tim Goldsworthy Remix... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Crystal Method Feat. LMFAO - 'Sine Language' (Richard Vission's Solmatic Remix) The Crystal Method have just released 'Sine Language' as the fourth single from last year's excellent 'Divided By Night' album - in a full package including 7 remixes! (8 if you download from their own website) http://www.thecrystalmethod.com/ You can sample all of them in their entirety below (click on the 'playlist' icon on the bottom left) - I recommend 'Richard Vission's Solmatic Remix' - an acid techno take on this fine track which features hip hop duo LMFAO - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Special Request! Siouxsie & The Banshees!
SummersRadio™ Special Request! Siouxsie & The Banshees - 'Dear Prudence' So earlier today I 'happened' to see a member of the SummersRadio™ Facebook group and he grunted something to the effect of 'your blog needs Siouxsie & The Banshees!'. I muttered something about how I like posts to be relevant and connect - in multiple ways. But then I thought... part of the inspiration of this FB group/ blog was my stint at Coast 800/1040 back in the day. For those who didn't know and/ or were still wearing diapers - it was Vancouver's first 'modern rock' station. Such a sound has also been described as 'alternative' or 'indie rock' or 'cock rock' - no, scratch that last one - I don't dig that kind of music.
Anyway I hosted the all night show appropriately titled 'The All-Night All-Request Affair' - driven by requests that people would call in. Yes, this is what people used to do before the internets and texting came along! :) So I thought how could I not accept the first blog request I've had?! So as far as relevance goes... by far the biggest music industry announcement this week was the fact that Beatles recordings were available from itunes for the first time ever! After 30 years of legal disputes between Apple Computers and Apple Corp. (owned by the Beatles) they've decided to give peace a chance! There is hope for the Middle East. So it may be unconventional, but that's how I roll - let us celebrate with one of my most favorite Beatles covers - Siouxsie & The Banshee's 'Dear Prudence' - for Donny... Enjoy!
p.s. please join my Facebook group at: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=366897324071

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Saint Etienne!
SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Saint Etienne - 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' (Richard X Extended Remix) Rare is it that a cover version of a classic song done in a completely different style becomes a classic in it's own right - but such was the case in 1991 when Saint Etienne remodeled Neil Young's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart'. This remix from 2009 by Richard X is AMAZING - kudos to Blake B. Siik for bringing this one back to the surface! Richard X actually remixed the entire 'Foxbase Alpha' album (their debut) - and it was released as 'Foxbase Beta' last November - as a limited single disc available only through Rough Trade in the U.K., and as a limited 2cd version through their 'Lovers Unite' fanclub... Enjoy! ♥♥♥
SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Morning Benders!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Morning Benders - 'Excuses' (The Golden Filter Remix) The Morning Benders are an indie rock band from Berkley that are now based in New York. They released their second album entitled 'Big Echo' in March. This song has gained exposure through use in two tv commercials - for Sony '3d' tv's and Reese's peanut butter cups!
The Golden Filter are also from New York and they cite Saint Etienne and Pink Floyd as influences on their sound - clearly I need to hear more of their stuff! I really like this remix - they take the shuffling do-wop of the original and gradually transform it into a gloriously spacey number that weaves in and out of New Order territory... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Video! Klaxons!
SummersRadio™ New 'NSFW' Video! Klaxons - 'Twin Flames' The Klaxons have just released this new video for their latest single and there's quite a buzz building around it. In less than 24 hours it's already been banned from YouTube - citing their policies against nudity and sexuality. It was directed by Saam Farahmand who has also worked with The xx and New Young Pony Club. Lots of comments are being posted about how it's 'disgusting', 'pure filth', even 'the most disturbing video ever'!
Personally I don't see what the big deal is - but then again I'm not offended by pretend sex or special effects! It's not real - there's no actual sex in it... you don't see any genitals - only a slight bit of nudity - but nothing more than you can see on the tele on any given night. I'm not sure if it's a smart move or a desperate one (or both) on the band's behalf. Sales of their new album 'Surfing The Void' pale in comparison to their debut - and the first single 'Echoes' peaked at a mere #55 on the singles chart in the U.K. So make of this what you will... Enjoy?
Yes it does exist! Here's a new link to cut and paste courtesy of the NME...

SummersRadio™ New Music! White Lies - 'Bigger Than Us' London's White Lies released perhaps my favorite indie rock debut of 2009 with 'To Lose My Life...' so I was thrilled to find that they just released the video for their new single online today! SummersRadio™ Classic! Love Spit Love!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Love Spit Love - 'Am I Wrong' When the Psychedelic Furs disbanded in 1992, Richard Butler formed Love Spit Love who recorded two albums in the 90's - before they disbanded and the Furs reformed in 2000! This is a great song from their 1994 debut - I love the finality of the line 'Goodbye, lay the blame on luck'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Social Distortion!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Social Distortion - 'Machine Gun Blues' Social Distortion release their new studio album (their seventh) entitled 'Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes' on Jan. 18th! They just released it's first single 'Machine Gun Blues' online today. I've been a fan of the band for two decades - but only today realized how much vocalist Mike Ness sounds like a slightly gruffer Richard Butler (Psychedelic Furs)... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Stereolab!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Stereolab - 'Silver Sands' (Emperor Machine Mix) Last year Stereolab announced that they were going on an 'indefinite hiatus' but they have just released a new album full of new material that was recorded during the 'Chemical Chords' sessions called 'Not Music'! The album has 13 tracks - three of which are remixes - including this one of 'Silver Sands' - Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classic! NYLX Feat. Lula Grelhada!
SummersRadio™ Classic! NYLX Feat. Lula Grelhada - 'Goosebumps' (The Mushroom Head Mix) The booming male vocals in the 'Desolate Cities' track below reminded me of this classic - and highlarious - house tune! Not Chicago house per se though - this time via New York and Lisbon - hence the basis for the name NYLX! NYLX was the name of the collaboration between the Underground Sound Of Lisbon and Danny Tenaglia. This is actually edited - as this full remix by Johnny Vicious is 15:10! I love the banter between Lula and the DJ - and her line 'I think I'm losing my mind' - and how it gets all Age Of Love around 3:30! Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! 2 AM/ FM!
SummersRadio™ New Music! 2 AM/ FM - 'Desolate Cities' Some more new Chicago house for you - this one dipped in acid! 2 AM/ FM is a duo consisting of D'Marc Cantu and James T. Cotton. You may know James under one of his other alias's - Dabrye, SK-1 - or his real name Tadd Mullinix! Tadd's 2000 release 'Winking Makes A Face' was the first album released by the Ghostly International label. He's released three EP's with his former roommate D'Marc under the 2 AM/ FM guise - this is their monstrous new single 'Desolate Cities' - Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Tevo Howard feat. Tracey Thorn!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Tevo Howard Featuring Tracey Thorn - 'Without Me' Tracey Thorn has had a busy year - she released her third solo album 'Love And It's Opposite' in May, and then a remix EP entitled 'Opposites' in August - and now she's also written lyrics and sings on this previously instrumental track from Chicago's acclaimed underground house producer Tevo Howard... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Brain Machine!
SummersRadio™ Brain Machine - 'Eternal Night' Simian Mobile Disco recently released their first North American mix cd - called 'Is Fixed'. The title comes from their quarterly residency at a New York club night called 'Fixed'. It's available on a 16 track mixed cd - and it's also available for download online in both a mixed, and an unmixed/ mixed combo version. On the mixed version this song is only 2:25 long, but if you go with the unmixed version it's an epic 12:07! It's also originally available on Brain Machine's self titled EP. This is the first track both on Simian Mobile Disco's release and on their EP - 'Eternal Night' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Tangerine Dream!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Green Velvet!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Green Velvet - 'La La Land' (Pleasurekraft 'Sideshow' Remix) I like this remix a bit more than the also recently released but overly hyper 'Crookers Remix' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! The Presets!
SummersRadio™ Classic! The Presets - 'Anywhere' (Still Going Remix) There's no official release date set yet for Sydney's The Presets new third album, but it is expected early next year - and they have announced that they will debut their new live show at the Tasmanian Music festival in February! In the meantime we can bask in the glow of greatness that is 'Anywhere' from their 'Apocalypso' release. I love the weight of the line 'So let yourself down tonight... Anywhere' and I love this remix - very Hardfloor - Enjoy!
