SummersRadio™ New Music! Agoria - 'Helice' (Original Mix)
France's Agoria have released a new EP called 'Helice'! 'Helice' features three tracks - the title song, a track called 'Make It Real' and a remix of the latter by ESS. It's released by Hotflush Recordings and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/helice/1418191
'Helice' will lift you higher - not just into the sky - but far beyond into deep space... Enjoy!
I stumbled upon an excellent remix/ edit of Iggy Pop's 'Nightclubbing' earlier this week! 'Nightclubbing' was written by David Bowie and Iggy Pop and it was first released on Pop's 1977 album 'The Idiot'.
It reached a wider audience when it was included in the film and on the soundtrack for Trainspotting in 1996. It's also been covered (Grace Jones, Human League) and sampled (Nine Inch Nails, Oasis) by numerous artists.
This trippy remix/ edit by French duo Monoblok & Pslktr was released by their label Meant Records as part of their annual X-Mas present special edit series (which they release as a free download) in 2012. It's received over 3,000 plays on Soundcloud, but it's worthy of so many more so I thought I'd share it.
SummersRadio™ New Music! Sebastien Bouchet - 'Broken Heart'
France's Sebastien Bouchet has released a new EP called 'Speicher 77'! 'Speicher 77' is the latest release in the 'Speicher' series - which began in 2001 on the Kompakt label as a means of tying up some loose ends.
I love how Kompakt describes Bouchet's sound: "it's still the same undercurrent of deranged minimalism running alongside a perfectly executed club framework and counterbalancing the occasional epic outburst."
'Broken Heart' is the b-side on Bouchet's new EP - and it's a very cinematic and emotional track that tells the torrid story without words... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein - 'Aleph'/ 'Nameless'
Gesaffelstein has just released his debut album called 'Aleph'! Although the French artist has released numerous EP's and singles since 2008 this is his first proper full length artist album. 'Aleph' features fourteen tracks - it's released by EMI in France and Bromance in the U.S. - and it's available now on iTunes.
As it's Sunday I've chosen a couple more laid back/ ambient tracks from 'Aleph' - but rest assured the album has it's share of bangers ('Pursuit', 'Hellifornia', 'Dual' and 'Trans') as well. The is the title track... Enjoy!
'Nameless' is the third track on 'Aleph' and it's perfect for dreaming - day or nighttime... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Olivier Giacomotto - '20000 Leagues Under The Skin'
France's Olivier Giacomotto has just released a new EP called 'Explorateur'! The EP features two tracks - '20000 Leagues Under The Skin' and 'Journey To The Center Of House'. The EP is released on the Definitive Recordings label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/explorateur-ep/1147047
I'm not sure where one would end up if you did travel '20000 Leagues Under The Skin' but I reckon you'd have no trouble feeling the hypnotic vibe of this tune... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remix! Erotic Market - 'Identity' (Spitzer Remix)
Spitzer have just released a new remix of Erotic Market's 'Identity' online! Erotic Market are a duo from Lyon, France who've just released their self titled debut EP this week. The EP features four tracks including one called 'Erotic Market', as well as 'Identity', '30 Seconds' and their first single 'Rumblin''. It's released on the Jarring Effects label and it's available now on iTunes.
The 'Spitzer Remix' of 'Identity' isn't available for sale just yet but it's well worth a listen. Erotic Market singer Marine Pellegrini's vocals are reminiscent of Bjork and the Spitzer brothersexpand on the originalsongs'lovelyelectronic underbelly... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music/ Video! Phoenix - 'Entertainment'
France's Phoenix have just released the video for their new single 'Entertainment'! 'Entertainment' is the first single (available now on iTunes) from their forthcoming new ten track album (their fifth) called 'Bankrupt!' which will be released on April 22nd by V2 Records. This is the rather unassuming cover art:
This video is actually the third we've featured in as many days that doesn't feature the band at all. In fact it features other people performing the song as was the case in Beach House's video for 'Wishes' (they both also feature fireworks) but this time the setting is North Korea and there's plenty of drama afoot... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Electric Rescue - 'Change' (Original Mix)/ 'Certaines Apparences' (Original Mix)
Paris's Antoine Husson aka Electric Rescue has just released a new EP called 'Change Of Appearance'! The six track EP includes the original mixes of 'Change', 'Certaines Apparences' and 'Tilou' along with a dj tool for each song. It's released by SCI-TEC Digital Audio and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/change-of-appearance-ep/989433
'Change' is rather like a semi-subliminal motivational tape disguised as an energetic techno stomper - it's full of win... Enjoy!
The second song on the EP 'Certaines Apparences' prepares you for lift off not just once - or twice - but thrice! Enjoy...
SummersRadio™ New Music! C2C Featuring Jay-Jay Johanson - 'Give Up The Ghost'
I know it's late but I'm still recovering from Saturday night so let's go with something chill today :) Coups2Cross aka C2C are a four member turntablist group from Nantes, France who are set to release their debut album called 'Tetra' next month! The group are four time DMC dj World Champions and they combine electronica, jazz, hip hop and soul into their original compositions. 'Tetra' features fourteen tracks and it's released in Canada on October 22nd on the On And On Records label.
'Give Up The Ghost' is the eighth track on the album and features guest vocals from Sweden's Jay-Jay Johanson - it sounds like a song that could very well fit in nicely on The Avalanches second album - if they ever actually make one... Enjoy!
The duo from Lyon, France have just released a video for 'Sergen' and it's quite unique. It features a herd of sheep on a journey across the countryside and it fits the song surprisingly well.
It's directed by Louise Hemon and I particularly like it around 2:50 in where a number of animals - starting with the dog - seem to pose for the camera like they're a cast member on the opening credits of Saturday Night Live or some sitcom... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Julian Jeweil - 'Bastard'/ 'The Gang'
Julian Jeweil is a dj/ producer from Marseille, France who's just released a new EP called 'Bastard'! The EP features six tracks (all original mixes) and is released on the Plus 8 Records label. It's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/bastard/946754
Every track on 'Bastard' is solid, but I shall begin at the beginning with the title track which features trippy vocals and plenty of spacey keyboards... Enjoy!
This is the third track on the 'Bastard' EP - a jaunty tune called 'The Gang'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Maxime Dangles - 'Golden Gate' (Original Mix)/ 'Sun E' (Tempelhof Remix)
France's Maxime Dangles has just released a new EP called 'Sun E/ Golden Gate'! It was a mere two months ago that I was blown away by Dangles 'Hold Up' EP (which you can revisit here: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2012/06/summersradio-new-music-maxime-dangles.html) and now his vibrant sounds and amazing production are dazzling my mind yet again!
The new EP features three tracks - the original mixes of the two title tracks - and the 'Tempelhof Remix' of 'Sun E'. It's released on Italy's Hell Yeah Recordings label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/sun-e-golden-gate/951233
Let's begin with 'Golden Gate' - I love the label's description of this one:"Hidden kick drums thud below soft bell patterns, panpipes, trumpets and more percussion and the whole thing is on a constant upward arc in tiny repeated loops. At the top, a blistered acid synth right from the future sprays in like a light sabre. Its a dramatic, epic track with plenty of genuine musicality at its core." Like all legendary electronic songs it's quite the hypnotic sonic adventure... Enjoy!
Now deciding which version of 'Sun E' to post has proven difficult as they're two quite different takes yet equally alluring. The 'Original Mix' is a hypnotic techno/ funk workout while the 'Tempelhof Remix' builds a nice downtempo groove that comes alive (moreso) with acoustic guitar and handclaps about two minutes in. I'll go with the slightly more chilled of the two for now, but trust me they're both fantastic - I'm buying the full EP!
This is the 'Tempelhof Remix' of 'Sun E'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Spitzer - 'Sergen' (Extended Version)
Spitzer are a duo from Lyon, France (brothers actually) who've just released an amazing new EP called 'Sergen'! The three track EP includes the 'Extended Version' of the title track - as well as the original versions of 'Serpentine' and a wonderfully cinematic tune called 'Delenda' - and it's released on the InFine Music label. It's available on Beatport for $5.97 but it's a deal and a half on itunes - all three tracks for only $1.99!
The EP is also available on vinyl from Juno: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/sergen-ep/458482-01/ The original version of 'Sergen' will appear on their debut album called 'The Call' which will be released on September 3rd.
'Sergen' is quite an astounding tune - a bit like shoegazer techno. The duo are no strangers to indie rock - in fact they site the Washington D.C. post-hardcore band Fugazi as influences. The song features spacey electronics melding with bursts of guitar and feedback with proper (real) drums - this song/ EP won me over instantly on the first listen... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Maxime Dangles - 'My Boo' (Original Mix)/ 'Jarten' (Original Mix)
Maxime Dangles is an artist/ dj/ producer from Valence, France who's just released a new EP called 'Hold Up'. It features five original songs - and they're pretty much all techno monsters! The EP is released on the Bedrock label - and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/hold-up-ep/927831
The EP is very solid, filled with mind altering productions. After a few listens this track is definitely my favorite so far - this is the third song on the EP called 'My Boo'... Enjoy!
This is another mind blowing joyride from the 'Hold Up' EP - this is track two called 'Jarten'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Giacomotto + Amo + Navas - ' Dance All Night' (Original Mix)
France's Olivier Giacomotto has teamed up with Spainish duo Amo + Navas aka David Amo and Julio Navas for a new EP called 'Together'! The EP features two tracks - the original mixes of 'Get Together' and 'Dance All Night' - and is released on the Definitive Recordings label. It's currently available exclusively on Beaport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/together-ep/910074
It's the b-side 'Dance All Night' that is most to my liking here with it's fine bassline kicking in at the one minute mark - cowbell follows. Soon the chilled robots being to speak, and at 3:20 in the penguins start taking flight... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Laurent Garnier featuring The L.B.S. Crew - 'Our Futur' (Detroit Mix)
France's techno legend Laurent Garnier is releasing a new EP called 'Timeless' on April 1st! 'Timeless' is a three track EP featuring 'Jacques In The Box' and two remixes of 'Our Futur' - the 'Loud Disco Mix' and the 'Detroit Mix' - and it's out on the Ed Banger Records label.
The full EP will be available on itunes on April 1st, but Beatport has an exclusive advance release of this 'Detroit Mix' of 'Our Futur' available now: http://www.beatport.com/#release/timeless/885419
The feel of this song fits in well with the EP's name - as it certainly has a timeless quality to it. On one hand it seems a bit familiar - with it's Giorgio Moroder and early Detroit techno influences - musically speaking it sounds like it could be from some classic sci-fi film soundtrack. But it also sounds current - with the robotic vocal bits featuring positive lyrics about our future. It clocks in at over nine minutes long and suggests to me that the future could very well be quite the epic journey... :) Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remix! Ron Costa - 'La Cage Invisible' (Original Mix)/ (Carlo Lio & The Junkies Remix)
Fabio Riccio aka Ron Costa is a French dj/ producer from Paris who's released his latest single 'La Cage Invisible' on Toronto's Local Music label! The two track EP features the 'Original Mix' plus the 'Carlo Lio & The Junkies Remix' from Toronto native Carlo Lio and fellow Torontonian duo The Junkies (who started the Local Music label).
I've had a difficult time deciding which mix to post as I like the housey mysteriousness of the original - but also the darker trippiness of the remix - so I'll let you decide which one you like best! Either way, we're going downtown now - first up we have the 'Original Mix'... Enjoy!
This is the equally enjoyable remix from Carlo Lio & The Junkies - it begins modestly but then really starts to hustle after the one minute mark... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Mr. Oizo - 'Edn' (Vinibanger Remix) Well I must say that itunes is certainly getting their paws on some quality dance music releases lately <cough> In this week's new releases for example we have a new compilation called 'Acid House' - which features big name artists like Boyz4noize - and includes a 'Hard Trance Mix'! They also have a new song from Tfb called 'My Dick Has Bass' and Sissy Penis Factory's 'Everybody F**K Now' from 1991! If you haven't heard it, you can probably guess that it's a 20 year old explicit take on C&C Music Factory's 'Everybody Dance Now' - with clever lyrics like 'Let my pussy take control, let my juices move you'. I don't know where they're getting these top quality exclusive new releases from, but all I can say is buyer beware!
France's Mr. Oizo released his latest album called 'Stade 2' earlier this month - his second released on the Ed Banger label, and his fourth full length overall. The album features a one minute and four second track called 'Ebn' - short for... 'everybody dance now'! It's not a cover per se - although it uses those three memorable words, it's totally different musically speaking. As it's so short it's more of a musical interlude than a song, but Vinicius Miguel aka Vinibanger - a producer from Brazil - has remixed and extended the track, turning into a proper tune. If it's to your liking you can download a copy for free courtesy of Vinibanger here: http://soundcloud.com/vinibanger/mr-oizo-edn-vinibanger-remix or simply click on the download arrow below.
This is the rather supersonic 'Vinibanger Remix' of Mr. Oizo's 'Ebn'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! 'Kitsune Maison Compilation 12: The Good Fun Issue'! Computer Magic - 'Ex Believer'/ Lemaitre - 'Excuse Me' I've always liked the 'Kitsune Maison' compilation series put out by the French music and fashion label Kitsune - as they feature both electronic and indie rock songs and artists - and their newest edition is no exception! 'Kitsune Maison Compilation 12: The Good Fun Issue' features 15 tracks and is available on cd and as a download - with itunes featuring a bonus 16th track. I've chosen two of my favorites - one more indie leaning tune, and one more electronic!
First up we have Computer Magic - a band from Brooklyn that are currently unsigned - aside from this song that's been scooped up by Kitsune of course. Although the live incarnation of Computer Magic features four members, it's actually the solo project of a 21 year old student named Danielle aka Danz. We previously featured her cover of John Lennon's '(Just Like) Starting Over' back in July which you can revisit here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/07/summersradio-new-music-computer-magic.html
Computer Magic's beautiful vocals and harmonies remind me a bit of The School - and musically speaking they both have a dreamy 60's pop sound - but this song's a bit trippier. It's funny too that The School's debut album was called 'Loveless Unbeliever' - and this song is called 'Ex Believer'! (you can go back to School as it were here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-best-of-2010-school.html) :)
I love the spacey production on this song, and the lyrics - especially the line 'What's the sense of being in myself when I'm so far away?' - brilliant! This the second track on the compilation... Enjoy!
Lemaitre are a duo from Oslo Norway that list Daft Punk, Boys Noize and Justice as influences. Indeed this song starts out sounding very much like Justice - but I also like the singers voice - and I really like how the track morphs into techno territory about 2:22 in!
This is Lemaitre's new song called 'Excuse Me' - the eighth track on the new 'Kitsune Maison Compilation 12: The Good Fun Issue'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Caravan Palace - 'Clash' (Jupiter Remix) Caravan Palace are releasing their new EP called 'Clash' today! Caravan Palace are a six piece band from Paris that met after three of the band members were hired to provide soundtracks for porno films!
They released their self titled debut album in 2008 - the follow up album isn't due until next year, but their new 'Clash' EP - which features two new songs and four remixes - is out today. (technically in a few minutes - at midnight - the 3rd!) :)
Their debut album was generally described as electroswing (a fusion of swing and house music) - as is the the original mix of 'Clash' - however this particular remix is pretty much full on funky disco electro house. This is the 'Jupiter Remix' of the title track - and it is without question the most sublimely funky new track I have heard in some time... Enjoy!
Please note that the picture above is actually of the song's remixers Jupiter. Here's a lovely photo of Caravan Palace on stage - from their Facebook page which you can check out here: http://www.facebook.com/CaravanPalace?ref=ts#!/CaravanPalace
Here's a look at the awesome cover art for the 'Clash' EP:
