SummersRadio™ New Music/ Video + Free Download! 8:58! (Orbital's Paul Hartnoll)

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Video + Free Download! 8:58 - '8:58' (Official Video)

First the bad news - after 25 years together Orbital have decided to call it quits - again! They've officially announced it on their website: http://orbitalofficial.com/news.asp Boo. Hiss.

The good news is that one half of the brotherly duo (Paul Hartnoll) already has a new song, video and an upcoming album and tour in the works! '8:58' is the name of his new project - it's also the name of the debut single and video.

'8:58' sounds rather like Orbital (shocker!) - it's multidimensional, grand, wacky, orchestral and insightful - and it features an intro by actor Cillian Murphy. If it's to your liking the song is currently available as a free download here: http://eightfiftyeight.com/

This is '8:58'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Orbital!

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Orbital - 'Stringy Acid/ Chime' (live in Brussels)

British electronic/ techno legends Orbital are coming to Vancouver next month! The Hartnoll Brothers - Phil and Paul - are touring North America for their first time since 2001 in support of their newest album 'Wonky', which was released in April. The duo are performing at The Vogue Theatre on Wednesday September 26th - tickets are on sale now here: http://unionevents.com/shows/view/3335/orbital

You can check out some of our previous Orbital posts including the video for the first official single from 'Wonky' - 'New France' m'here: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2012/03/summersradio-new-music-new-video.html, the video for another track from 'Wonky' called 'Never' m'here: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2011/10/summersradio-new-music-free-download_28.html and others by clicking the Orbital tag below.

I generally steer away from unofficial live videos as they're often quite craptacular quality wise - but this one is pretty good - and it gives you a nice sneak peak at some of the visuals and lighting for the tour as well. This clip features the songs 'Stringy Acid' from their latest album, along with their very first single - the 1990 classic 'Chime'. It was recorded at a concert in April at the Ancienne Belgique, Brussels... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Beacon!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Beacon - 'Feeling's Gone'

Beacon are an electronic duo from Brooklyn consisting of Thomas Mullarney III and Jacob Gossett - who've just released a new song online called 'Feelings Gone'! 'Feeling's Gone' is a track on the band's forthcoming second EP called 'For Now', that will feature five tracks and will be released on the Ghostly International label on October 2nd. You can keep up with news on the band on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/beaconband

'Feeling's Gone' is a wonderful electronic journey that seemed an epic eight or nine minutes long when I first listened to it - but it's surprisingly just over three minutes long. It's a definite credit to the song that it's able to transport you so far away in such a short time. A song that opens with the lines 'Feeling's Gone' isn't likely to be an upbeat tune lyrically speaking (and that's fine anyway - depth is good) but at the same time the music is so dreamy that it whisks you away happily.

'Feeling's Gone' also features a synth bassline that's reminiscent of Orbital's classic 'Halcyon + On + On' (which you can revisit m'here: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2010/12/summersradio-classic-orbital.html) and includes numerous tempo changes and tidal waves of sound that all add to it's perceived length.

Like yesterday's post from Chrome Sparks, Beacon's 'Feeling's Gone' is a great song to get lost in... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + New Video! Orbital!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Orbital featuring Zola Jesus - 'New France' (video)/ (L-Vis 1990's Rewound Mix)/ (Tom Middleton Cosmos Mix)

It's time for a puppet show - hoo-ray! Orbital have just released their new video for their new official single called 'New France' - and it stars a large puppet lion who likes to party! 'New France' is the new single from their forthcoming eighth studio album - amusingly called 'Wonky' - which is set for release on April 2nd on the ACP Recordings label.

'Wonky' will be available on all formats including a regular and deluxe digital download, a single and double cd, and on vinyl as well. The regular download/ single cd features nine new tracks, and the deluxe download/ double cd feaures an additional five live audio tracks. All five are classics that were recorded live in Australia last year - including 'Lush', 'Impact', 'Satan', 'Belfast', and 'Chime/Crime'. The deluxe download also features two video tracks - for 'Never' and 'Straight Sun'.

The new single 'New France' is the first official single from the 'Wonky' album (although 'Never' and 'Straight Sun' have been released on the interweb) and it's available on itunes now. There's also a new four track remix EP of the song being released on Monday featuring remixes from L-Vis 1990, Tom Middleton, and The Hydraulic Dogs. First let's start with the party lion and the new video which isn't even officially on Youtube yet - it's 'unlisted' which means that only those with the link can see it - it doesn't even show up in Youtube searches!

This is the awesome brand new video for 'New France' which features guest vocals from American singer Nika Roza Danilova aka Zola Jesus... Enjoy!

The 'New France' remix EP out next week features the single version plus three mixes - and all three are pretty solid so I couldn't post just one. This remix from London's L-Vis 1990 is my favorite thus far - there are fewer vocals, some nice squelchy acid sounds, and it just seems to be the most Orbital to me :) ... Enjoy!

This 'Tom Middleton Cosmos Mix' is also to my liking... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Orbital!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Orbital - 'Never' Orbital have released a brand new single online - their first since last June's single 'Don't Stop Me'/ 'The Gun Is Good' - called 'Never'!

'Never' will be included on their as yet untitled forthcoming new studio album (their eighth - and first in eight years) due for release in April 2012. The band has also announced a U.K. tour to coincide with the release - you can find out more information on the dates from their official website here: http://www.orbitalofficial.com/

While 'Don't Stop Me' (which you can revisit here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-best-of-2010-orbital.html) was a club friendly tune 'Never' is a bit mellower - and if it's to you're liking you can download it for free from their official website link!

This is Orbital's new song - and video - called 'Never'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Orbital!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Orbital - 'Halcyon + On + On' 'Halcyon' was first released by Orbital in 1992 on the 'Radiccio' EP. This version appeared on their second eponymous album (known as both 'Orbital 2' and the 'Brown Album') which was released in '93, and both feature a sample of Opus III's 'It's A Fine Day' - with the vocals from Kirsty Hawkshaw looped backwards! I wanted to post something classic for New Year's Eve - and I think the visuals for this song are a good reminder to enjoy all the beauty that the world has to offer us in the New Year. I hope you all have a fine night tonight - and I look forward to bringing lots of new and interesting music your way in 2011... Cheers!!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Orbital!

SummersRadio™ Best of 2010! Orbital - 'Don't Stop Me' Orbital released their first new material since 2004 in June - 2 new songs released digitally and on a limited 12' single. It was a fine return to form - although there's still currently no word on whether or not a full album is in the works. The 'A' side features a wee vocal sample of the Buggles 80's classic (although technically released in Sept. 79!) 'Video Killed The Radio Star' - this is 'Don't Stop Me'... Enjoy!
