New Order have just announced the details of their forthcoming new album 'Music Complete' online today! 'Music Complete' features eleven new tracks and it will be released on September 25th on Mute Records. This will be the band's first album without bassist Peter Hook, who left the band in 2007 - but it also features the return of keyboardist Gillian Gilbert.
The album is produced by New Order and it also features two guest producers - The Chemical Brothers' Tom Rowlands on two tracks ('Singularity' and 'Unlearn The Hate') and Stuart Price on the track 'Superheated'.

Electronic music pioneer Gary Numan is performing in Toronto tonight at The Phoenix! This is a special week as there are not just one but two legendary electronic artists in town as Kraftwerk will also be here on Saturday.

To celebrate tonight's show I was searching for rare remixes and I found a perfect one on Youtube for Numan and Tubeway Army's classic song 'Are Friends Electric?'. There are no fancy bells and whistles in this one - a Numan fan has simply - and seamlessly - extended the original song to eleven and a half minutes in length!
'Are Friends Electric' was first released on the Tubeway Army (later changed to 'Gary Numan + Tubeway Army') album 'Replicas' in 1979 - and the single reached number one in the U.K. charts that summer.
Aside from the incredible atmospheric synth sounds and production part of what makes this song so great are the heartfelt lyrics:

I stumbled upon an excellent remix/ edit of Iggy Pop's 'Nightclubbing' earlier this week! 'Nightclubbing' was written by David Bowie and Iggy Pop and it was first released on Pop's 1977 album 'The Idiot'.
It reached a wider audience when it was included in the film and on the soundtrack for Trainspotting in 1996. It's also been covered (Grace Jones, Human League) and sampled (Nine Inch Nails, Oasis) by numerous artists.
This trippy remix/ edit by French duo Monoblok & Pslktr was released by their label Meant Records as part of their annual X-Mas present special edit series (which they release as a free download) in 2012. It's received over 3,000 plays on Soundcloud, but it's worthy of so many more so I thought I'd share it.
SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2013 Halloween Spectacular! Rare Remix! Oingo Boingo - 'Dead Man's Party' (Party Til Your Dead Mix)
Startlefest 2013 - our fourth annual Halloween Spectacular continues... with a rare extended remix from Oingo Boingo! 'Dead Man's Party' was the title track and third single released from the band's fifth album in 1986.
The song (and band) also appeared in the 1986 film 'Back To School' starring Rodney Dangerfield, Sam Kinison and Robert Downey Jr. The band's vocalist Danny Elfman went on to write dozens of film scores including many for Tim Burton and he also wrote title theme for The Simpsons.
The 'Party Til Your Dead Mix' of 'Dead Man's Party' was only released on the 12" vinyl single (along with 'Stay') for the song in 1986.... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! The Beloved - 'The Sun Rising' (Madmark Remix)
While researching The Beloved yesterday I came across a rather incredible remix that I'd never heard before - from a dj/producer from Manchester named Madmark! The Beloved first released 'The Sun Rising' as a single in 1989 - it was reissued in 1990 and then released again with new remixes in 1997.
Madmark transforms the original so much that the song is barely recognisable at times - aside from a short vocal loop and the bassline. He adds percussion hooks and thumping layered drums that create a massive mind altering hypnotic techno/ tribal hybrid... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! The B-52's - 'Good Stuff' (Schottische Mix)
The B-52's are performing at the River Rock Casino in Vancouver tonight! The new wave/ dance rock pioneers released their debut single 'Rock Lobster' in 1978 - thirty five years ago - and it reached number one in Canada the following year.
'Good Stuff' is the title track from their sixth studio album which was released in 1992. The cd single featured a number of remixes - including one from an up and coming electronica artist named Moby - who released his debut album the same year.
The energy level in Moby's 'Schottische Mix' is insanely high - and I love it when Kate Pierson shouts 'disco version'... Enjoy!
The trumpet in yesterday's Moonrags post reminded me the horns in one of my all time favorite songs - the 12" Version of The Boo Radleys song 'Lazarus'! 'Lazarus' was first released as a single in 1992 - an edited version was included on their 1993 album 'Giant Steps' - and then it was re-released with remixes in 1994.
This original '12" Version' extends the reggae influenced tripped out intro for a couple minutes until around 2:54 where the full wall of sound guitars kick in... Enjoy!
Perth, Australia's Tame Impala are performing a sold out show at The Commodore Ballroom here in Vancouver tonight! Let's celebrate with a rare remix and free download! Sydney's Light Year released this remix of the opening track from 'Lonerism' - 'Be Above It' - earlier this year on SoundCloud.

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix + Free Download! Foreigner - 'Urgent' (Strutt's Not In Amy Rush Mix)
Foreigner goes acid techno! Well, almost. I came across the remix from a year ago by London dj/ producer Algy Strutt that works surprisingly well. 'Urgent' was released in the summer of 1981 as the first single from their album '4'. It features Thomas Dolby playing and programming the keyboards (a year before he blinded the world with science) and Motown saxophonist Junior Walker.

Sylvain Dalidoaka Popular Computer has just released a new compilation of his early recordings - and a previously unreleased Hot Chip remix! The Parisian artist's new album is called 'First Level 2004 - 2007' collecting eleven of his original recordings including his early singles for the Kitsuné label.

The peace achieved between Ono and McCartney provides symbolic hope for peace between nations - even those who've been at odds for decades. For 42 years some humans have continued to blame Yoko (and some fools still will) but they're wrong - the truth is out now.

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2012 Halloween Spectacular! Rare Remix! Siouxsie & The Banshees - 'Fear (Of The Unknown)' (12" Vertigo Mix)
Halloween allows humans to have fun with their fears - of death, what happens after death - and of the unknown in general. This Siouxsie & The Banshees remix is quite rare for a number of reasons - 'Fear (Of The Unknown)' was only released as a single in the U.S. - it's the band's only single that was never released in the U.K. And this '12" Vertigo Mix' was only released on vinyl, so it can be difficult to find. It's also likely Siousxie's only rave hit. Whaaaaaat? Yes, it's a rave remix!
'Fear (Of The Unknown)' was released as the third single from their 1991 album 'Superstition' - the original was produced by Stephen Hague. The U.S. 12" single featured two remixes from Junior Vasquez - this '12" Vertigo Mix' - and a dub version. While some may peg 1991 as the year that punk broke with the rise of Nirvana - it was also the year that club music and raves erupted in the North American underground scene.
And so it was this context that explains the massive keyboard hooks which may frighten some hardcore Siouxsie fans - and delight some others. I love the production on this... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Concert News + Rare Remix! Morrissey - 'First Of The Gang To Die'/ 'Disappointed' (Manchester Mix)
Morrissey has just announced a fall North American tour and tickets go on sale this weekend! The 33 date tour begins October 5th in Boston and wraps up December 8th in Atlantic City. As you may know Morrissey announced in 2006 that he would not be playing any dates in Canada until the annual seal hunt - where up to 350,000 seals are killed each year - is stopped. Sadly this practice continues and it's a disgrace whether you're a vegetarian and animal activist like Morrissey or not. BUT...
The good news is that while Moz is protesting animal cruelty he certainly has not forgotten his Canadian fans - as he's scheduled a few dates in smaller border cities that perhaps wouldn't normally play host to a legendary artist of his stature including Niagara Falls, New York for southern Ontario fans - and Bellingham, Washington for Vancouver fans! He'll be performing at the Mount Baker Theatre on November 10th - tickets go on sale this Saturday (with a pre-sale starting on Thursday if you're a supporting member of the venue) here: http://mountbakertheatre.com/events/2012/morrissey

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Rare Remix! Yello - 'Oh Yeah' (Mr. Bizz Remix)/ 'I Love You' (Extended Version)
Mr. Bizz have released a new remix of Yello's classic single 'Oh Yeah'! Switzerland's Yello first released 'Oh Yeah' as a single from their fourth album 'Stella' in 1985. However the song reached the masses the following year when it was used prominently in the classic John Hughes comedy 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'. It was re-released in 1987 with the addition of a few more lyrics and it was also featured in another popular film called 'The Secret Of My Success' - and it's been used in countless films and television commericals since.
Mr. Bizz use the vocal bits (from the 1987 recording) over a driving hypnotic house groove... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! Yello released quite a string of great electronic/ synthpop singles in the 80's - and 'I Love You' is one of my favourites. This is the original 'Extended Version' from the 12" single - released in 1983 from their third album 'You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess'. This version is about two minutes longer than the 'Club Mix' of the song that's currently available on the remastered cd and download... Enjoy!
LaDonna Adrian Gaines aka Donna Summer passed away earlier today after a lengthy battle with cancer. Known as the 'Queen Of Disco' in the seventies, her influence on dance music is immeasurable - may she rest in peace.
Rather than feature one of her many hits I've chosen a rare remix (naturally) of one of my favorite Donna Summer songs - one which was never even a single. 'Grand Illusion' is a track from her 1980 album 'The Wanderer' and it was actually released as the b-side to the title track. The song was written by Summer and Giorgio Moroder and produced by Moroder and Pete Bellotte.
'Grand Illusion' is impeccably produced and it creates it own atmosphere - it's best to listen to it in the dark to feel the full effect :) This 'CD Extended Edit' takes the original song from just under four minutes of hypnotic mysteriousness - to over nine minutes of bliss... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Electric Light Orchestra - 'Last Train To London' (House de la Funk Remix)
As noted in yesterday's Chemical Brothers post it seems that people are bringing E.L.O. back - from Boston's Magnetic Fields to Manchester's Coronation Street - or at least some people in their respective crews are :) So I thought I'd do my part for Canada by posting a rare remix of their song 'Last Train To London' from their number one album from 1979 called 'Discovery'.
E.L.O. were from Birmingham England and were pretty cool back in the day - they used both keyboards and an orchestra prominently - and they even later toured with a spaceship stage complete with lasers! 'Last Train To London' was released as a double A-side single coupled with 'Confusion' and it reached the top 10 in the U.K. at the end of 1979 and it scraped into the top 40 in North American at the start of 1980.
This is a rare remix by House de la Funk - a one man project from Pereira Colombia. This is his house remix from 2009 - although quite frankly he didn't have to change too much as it was already a great dance tune with an awesome bassline and massive keyboard hooks... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classics + Rare Remix! The Primitives - 'Spacehead'/ 'Way Behind Me'/ 'You Are The Way' (Re-Ravishing Mix)/ 'Rattle My Cage'
After posting the new Belle & Sebastian cover of The Primitives 'Crash' (and subsequently the original version as well) yesterday I've been craving more of The Primitives ever since - so I thought I'd post some more of their finest tracks!
The band formed in Coventry England in 1985 and released three album's before breaking up in 1992. They were one of the great indie pop/ rock bands of the late 80's/ early 90's - and one of my favorite female fronted bands from that period - along with The Darling Buds and Voice Of The Beehive. After 17 years apart they reformed in 2009 for a series of live gigs and they released a new EP in 2011.
I'll feature one track from each of their three studio albums and one from their most recent EP. Although not released as a single this is a standout track from their debut album 'Lovely' which was released in 1988 - as it features some fine fuzzy guitars and the always lovely vocals of Tracy Cattell aka Tracy Tracy - this is 'Spacehead'... 'You Are The Way' was the first single released from their third album - 1991's 'Galore' - and was the only single to chart in the U.K. and sadly the band decided to call it quits in '92. This is a rare remix that was recorded in 1991 but never released due to a sample clearance issue - and it's only just surfaced on the world wide web for the first time this month!

'Right Thing' first appeared as 'Right Thing/ GDMFSOB' - the ninth track on DJ Shadow's 2002 album 'The Private Press'. This remix is from the rare remix album called 'The Private Repress' which was only released in Japan the following year.
