SummersRadio™ Special Dedication To Mike Grefner - Today's post is a special dedication to Vancouver/ Whistler dj Mike Grefner aka Vs Zero. Mike went missing three weeks ago today, and was last seen at Garfinkles night club in Whistler on January 16th. 

Mike is around six-foot-two and 180 pounds, with curly brown hair, green eyes, and stubbly facial hair. He was last seen wearing faded jeans with crosses stitched on the back pockets, a navy blue T-shirt and a black military-style hat.

There are a few things I know about Mike Grefner - one is that he is very intelligent and always has a positive attitude, and another is that he is very fit. He is strong both mentally and physically - so Mike - whether your disappearance has been by accident, force, or by choice - you need to gather up all your smarts, strength, and courage to remain strong to survive and fight back, and find your way home safe and sound very soon. Your family and literally thousands of friends miss you.

This is a song from Jason Lytle (formerly of Grandaddy) called 'You Can Do It' (Piano Version 1) that was released last year for the Japanese earthquake/ tsunami benefit compilation called 'Resume'. I find it inspiring and I ask everyone to please channel their positive energy and thoughts to Mike to help him find his way back. ♥

'Drinking In L.A.' was the first single released from Bran Van 3000 - a Montreal based electronica collective - from their debut album called 'Glee', which was released in Canada in 1997. 'Glee' was released internationally the following year with different cover art and a couple bonus tracks, and 'Drinking In L.A.' went on to reach the top three in the U.K. charts in 1999.

The Funk Hunters are a Vancouver dj/ production duo consisting of Duncan Smith aka Dunks and Nick Middleton aka The Outlier. They're known for their four turntable live dj sets and they embrace a wide range of styles including funk, house, disco, hip hop, dubstep, and drum and bass. Bran Van 3000 - 'Supermodel' BV3's 'Glee' album is/ was a truly groundbreaking/ genre smashing masterpiece, so it came as no surprise that they were later signed to the Beastie Boys Grand Royal label for the release of their second album 'Discosis'. Even though it's 15 years on now, I still listen to it on a regular basis and 'Supermodel' is one of it's many highlights.

The song tells the story of a small town/ city girl who gets discovered, but it also comments on the shallowness of such pursuits while mixing country, hip hop, electronica, samples, and beautiful harmonies to create a uniquely classic song... Enjoy!

London's otherwise anyonymous SBTRKT released his self titled (as it were) debut album in June. SummersRadio™ New Remix! Kaiserdisco!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Kaiserdisco - 'Amalfino' (DelayNoMore Whistler Powder Mix) Kaiserdisco are a duo from Hamburg Germany consisting of Frederic Berger and Patrick Buck. 'Amalfino' was the A-side of their 'Cocktail' 12" which was released in November 2009.

DelayNoMore are also a duo - from here in Vancouver - consisting of Farshad Abasi and Sebastien Nault - aka Dj's Abasi and Ceebas respectively. They've kept this remix under wraps for some time but they're finally letting the cat out of the sac! The 'DelayNoMore Whistler Powder Mix' of 'Almafino' takes the original song and adds 'Elements' of Danny Tenaglia's classic track of the same name - which was released on Twisted Records in 1997 - to create a new club smash!

SummersRadio™ Concert News + New Remix + Free Download! Trentemoller -'Moan' (Enigma Dubz Remix) Just announced today - Trentemoller is returning to Vancouver on November 2nd! Trentemoller follows up his performance at Venue in April with another show (with his band) at the Commodore on November 2nd - tickets go on sale tomorrow morning.

James Vine aka Enigma Dubz is a musician/ producer from Birmingham England. He's releasing a new EP called 'Let's Go' on his Dank 'N' Dirty Dubz label - a collaboration with Keith Stewart aka Sub Antix - a dj/ producer from Vancouver! The EP will be available on both itunes and Beatport on August 16th. In the meantime Enigma Dubz have made this remix of Trentemoller's 'Moan' available as a free download which you can get here:

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Brenda Lee - 'I'm Sorry' (Woodhead & Blenda Remix) This song beats the Jesus & Mary Chain's cover of 'Surfin' U.S.A.' as the oldest song I've posted a cover or remix of thus far! 'I'm Sorry' is Brenda Lee's signature song and it hit number one in the summer of 1960 when she was only 15! She is also very well known for her 1958 holiday classic 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' which initially only sold about 5,000 copies in '58 and when re-released in '59 - but after the success of 'I'm Sorry' and it's third holiday release in 1960 it has since gone on to sell over 5 million copies! On a headline tour of the U.K. in the early sixties her opening act was none other than the (then) little known group from Liverpool posted below - the Beatles!

This remix by Woodhead and Blenda was released in April. Woodhead is a Vancouver dj and producer who is also a resident at Signal Saturdays at the Lotus. What makes this such a great remix is perhaps what an unlikely combination it seems to be. Although now that I think about it - both this and 'Eleanor Rigby' are from the 60's - and feature prominent string arrangements - and both fit together perfectly! This one came first though and while 4center goes for a monstrous sound this one is pretty chill - resulting in one of the finest and most unique remixes of the year - dubstep or otherwise - Enjoy!

Salt 'n Pepa - 'Push It' (iamxl remix) 'Push It' originated as the b-side to Salt 'n Pepa's single 'Tramp' and was called 'I Like It When Justin Pushes It In Me'! It was then remixed by San Francisco dj and producer Cameron Paul, renamed and later added to Salt 'n Pepa's debut 'Hot, Cool & Vicious' in 1987. The album went platinum and made Salt 'n Pepa the first female rap act (group or solo) to ever do so. iamxl is Vancouver dj and producer Jon Hamlin who has remixed artists as diverse as John Lennon, Joy Division, Deadmau5 and the Bloody Beatroots.
