SummersRadio™ Classic! S'Express!

SummersRadio™ Classic! S'Express - 'Theme From S'Express' Like myself you may have recognized the sample in the Moullinex track below from this 1988 club classic - however this isn't where it originated! As Moullinex mentions on Soundcloud 'And yeah, the sample is blatant.. and No, it's not S'Express... ;)' The horn sample is from a song called 'Is It Love You're After' by Rose Royce from their 1979 album called 'Rose Royce IV: Rainbow Connection'. Rose Royce were a soul/ funk band from Los Angeles and are best known for their title track from the 1976 hit movie 'Car Wash'.

The main force behind S'Express was dj/ producer Mark Moore and although this song is based around the Rose Royce sample, it's just one of 15 songs that were sampled in the 'Theme From S'Express'. The song is considered a classic for both it's use of samples and also because it brought the acid house sound to the masses - reaching number 1 on both the U.K. singles and U.S. club charts. Enjoy this trip...!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Boney M!

SummersRadio™ And now for something completely different! Boney M - 'No More Chain Gang' On Dec. 30th Bobby Farrell - best known as the frontman and vocalist for Boney M - passed away in St. Petersberg Russia. Strangely this was the day after the anniversary of Rasputin's death - the Russian mystic who's story is told in their monster hit 'Rasputin' from 1978 - and in the same city!

Bobby Farrell was born and raised in Aruba - once he finished school he worked as a sailor for 2 years before settling in Norway. From there he went on to the Netherlands where he started djing - which led him to Germany where he met producer Frank Farian. Although Farrell is recognized as the male face of the band it was later revealed that he in fact only sang vocals during live performances, as all the vocals in the studio were performed by producer Frank Farian. Regardless it is Farrell and the three female members of the band that everyone recognizes from their performances, videos and album covers. Rather than post one of their obvious hits I thought that this was a fine opportunity to post one of their underrated songs. 'No More Chain Gang' is an album track from 1979's 'Oceans Of Fantasy' album - the one that came out after 'Nightflight To Venus' that featured the megahits 'Rasputin' and 'Rivers Of Babylon'. What stands out to me on this track is the drumming and the production - such a perfect sound - I'm actually surprised that it hasn't been sampled at some point. There are other posts on youtube with better visuals - but this one is the full version - and it has the best sound - so you can FEEL the drums... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Triple X!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Triple X - 'Feel The Same 2011' (Gary Caos House Touch Remix) One of my favorite club tunes of 1999 has just been re-released with several new remixes! Triple X's 'Feel The Same' is a disco house classic that first came out on the Ministry Of Sound label - it features a sample from a track called 'You & I' from the British soul group Delegation's 1979 album called 'Eau De Vie'. This and other Delegation songs have been sampled by artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Phats & Small, Lifelike and Ice Cube! Triple X are an Italian production duo and 'Feel The Same' was a number 1 club hit in the U.K. in the summer of '99. New remixes have just been released under the title 'Feel The Same 2011' on the Rise Records label - including this one from Gary Coas... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Orbital!

SummersRadio™ Best of 2010! Orbital - 'Don't Stop Me' Orbital released their first new material since 2004 in June - 2 new songs released digitally and on a limited 12' single. It was a fine return to form - although there's still currently no word on whether or not a full album is in the works. The 'A' side features a wee vocal sample of the Buggles 80's classic (although technically released in Sept. 79!) 'Video Killed The Radio Star' - this is 'Don't Stop Me'... Enjoy!
