A funny thing happened in the music world yesterday - sites from around the world from NME to Stereogum were all posting the new Death From Above 1979 single. The thing is that they all provided the very same BBC link to listen to it - where the song didn't even have a bloody play button! However about an hour ago the band posted a proper Youtube link on Facebook to this somewhat clever lyrics video so we can now all give it a proper listen.

'Trainwreck 1979' has a lot riding on it - as it's been a ten year wait since the band 's debut album 'You're A Woman, I'm A Machine' and eight years since their rather surprising breakup in 2006. The good news is that the song rocks - it's full of energy with their trademark heavy guitar riffs... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Nash The Slash - 'Psychotic Reaction'
Jeff Plewman - better known as Nash The Slash - has passed away at age 66. The Toronto musician is best known for playing the electric violin and for performing covered in surgical bandages from 1979 until his retirement in 2012. He was also a founding member of the band FM. This is the cover art from his 1984 album 'American Bandages':
'American Bandages' (available on iTunes) is a collection of 60's and 70's tracks reimagined - including 'Psychotic Reaction' which features Nash mixing in spoken word parts from the viewpoint of John Hinckley who was obsessed with Jodie Foster and tried to kill present Ronald Reagan.
Nash The Slash was a unique talent and captivating artist who shall live on through his music. This is 'Psychotic Reaction' - like all of his music, the production here is impeccable even three decades on... Enjoy!

Up until today I'd never gone three days without posting - but on Friday evening at 11:59pm tragedy struck... my computer slipped into a coma! Attempts to revive it were futile so I took it into the computer hospital on Saturday - and now we're back with a new hard drive - hoo-ray! And a $220 bill - booo, hissss!
Alas we return in fine form with 'Gravitas' - the second track from the 'Virtues & Vices' EP - from both artists. All four tracks on the EP feature some nice well spaced out techno - but 'Gravitas' is the clear standout for me... Enjoy!

Toronto's Metric are releasing their brand new single 'Youth Without Youth' online tomorrow! 'Youth Without Youth' is the first single from their forthcoming fifth studio album called 'Synthetica', which is set to be released on June 12th. Like 2009's fantastic 'Fantasies' album 'Synthetica' will be released on their own Metric Music International label. This Soundcloud clip also contains a two and a half minute commentary about the evolution of the song itself from singer Emily Haines and guitarist Jimmy Shaw. They've gone for what they call a '70's sleaze' sound here - upfront guitars with heavy drums. I love Emily Haines voice so much I could buy an album just of her speaking :)

SummersRadio™ Presents... 'Love Stinks 2! - A Valentine's Day Spectacular'! Classic! The Extras - 'Circular Impression'
Whether you have a partner or not, who doesn't want to get laid on Valentine's day ideally? Just remember - safety first! 'Circular Impression' tells the amusing tale of a young man who's been carrying a condom around in his wallet for some time. The Extras were a band from Toronto that released their debut album in 1981 called 'Bit Parts' featuring the single 'Circular Impression' which became a local hit.
I looked for a copy of this song on vinyl forever to no avail - but thankfully their label Ready Records released a compilation a few years ago that features the single. 'The Best Of Ready Volume 1: Ready Records 1979 - 1985' was released on cd in 2007 and is currently available on itunes for a mere $5.99. The compilation features 12 tracks including other Toronto area new wave bands from the era such as Blue Peter and The Spoons.
So if you're not likely to score this Valentine's Day, perhaps this song is for you - or even if you do - it's still pretty highlarious. Last year as part of the 30th anniversary of the song, a video was made for the very first time from some old school footage - this is The Extra's 'Circular Impression'... Enjoy!

Fabio Riccio aka Ron Costa is a French dj/ producer from Paris who's released his latest single 'La Cage Invisible' on Toronto's Local Music label! The two track EP features the 'Original Mix' plus the 'Carlo Lio & The Junkies Remix' from Toronto native Carlo Lio and fellow Torontonian duo The Junkies (who started the Local Music label).

The digital version of 'Sparkle' (which is available now) features 10 (!) remixes and the 12" vinyl version (released August 23rd) features six remixes. The vinyl features one remix of 'Spellwork', two remixes of 'Lose It' and three remixes of 'Beat And The Pulse'. The digital version features those same tracks plus an additional four remixes of 'Lose It'.
'Sparkle' follow's the release of the band's debut album called 'Feel It Break' in May - which was shortlisted for Canada's Polaris Music Prize just last month. It's called 'Trans-Love Energies' and it will be out on September 26th on their own Drone label. 'Your Loft My Acid' is the first single which features guest vocals from Katie Stelmanis - the lead singer for the Toronto band Austra - who just released their debut album called 'Feel It Break' in May. Katie Stelmanis is the only guest vocalist on the album - all other vocals on the album will feature founding band member Richard Fearless.

SummersRadio™ Canada Day! New Remix! Hidden Cameras - 'Colour Of A Man' (Pet Shop Boys Organic Mix) Well I posted a new Air remix a few hours ago, but as it's Canada Day today it seems appropriate to also post a Canadian artist - and I found a brand new remix as well!
Hidden Cameras are from Toronto and they've been making music for the past ten years - in fact they are celebrating their 10 year anniversary with a show at Barbican in London tomorrow! The show will also feature a performance from Chilly Gonzales - along with a showing of his feature film 'Ivory Tower' which includes cameos from fellow Canadian's Feist, Peaches and Tiga. The show is part of 'Canadian Blast' - a weekend of Canada Day celebrations in London - that also featured Blue Rodeo performing in Trafalger Square earlier today.
And as a bonus Hidden Cameras have just released this new remix online by one of London's finest! 'Colour Of A Man' is a track from their last album - their fifth - called 'Origin: Orphan', which was released on the Arts & Crafts label in 2009. This is the new 'Pet Shop Boys Organic Remix'... Deadmau5 - 'Fifths' (Max Zotti Remix) I'm not a huge Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 fan - I mean it's great that he's Canadian (born in Niagara Falls - lives in Toronto) and he's done so well for himself - but he's also a bit of a jerk. Aside from previously dissing dj's and dj'ing in general (followed by a half-assed apology) he recently told his Facebook friends that he would be deleting a lot of them soon. Well if you want to do that - then just do it - don't announce it to everyone and piss off your fans while they wait to see if they're cut!
Anyway, jerkness aside, some of his songs don't do anything for me - but some I like - such as this one! 'Fifths' was first released as a single in 2008 but it's just been re-released on the Hi-Bias Records label with two new remixes - one by Matteo DiMarr - and this one from Italy's Max Zotti... Enjoy!
