SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Downloads! Crystal Castles!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Downloads! Crystal Castles - 'Plague' (includes free download)/ 'Celestica' (Alcala Remix) (includes free download)

Toronto's Crystal Castles have just released a new song online called 'Plague' - and they've made it available as a free download today! 'Plague' is the first single from their forthcoming third album (as yet untitled - most likely their third eponymous release) which will be out in September on the Fiction Records label.

'Plague' has a distinctly distant dramatic feel to it and if it's to your liking you can download a copy for free from their Soundcloud page here: http://soundcloud.com/crystal-castles/crystal-castles-plague?page=2

Enjoy...!

Bonus Track! We first featured this 'Alcala Remix' by New York City dj/ producer Dan Acala on our Best Of 2010 roundup. The band have since given it their stamp of approval - and made it available as a free download on Soundcloud as well! You can download your copy here: http://soundcloud.com/crystal-castles/crystal-castles-celestica

This is the 'Alcala Remix' of 'Celestica' - the video features footage from a low budget 80's film called 'Disconnected'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Junior Boys!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Junior Boys - 'A Truly Happy Ending' (Keljet Remix) Hamilton's 'indie-tronica duo' Junior Boys released their fourth studio album called 'It's All True' earlier this week. It contains nine tracks including the first single 'Banana Ripple' and the original version of this song 'A Truly Happy Ending'.

Keljet are also a duo from Nijmegen Netherlands - that have remixed artists such as Passion Pit, The xx, Scissor Sisters, Faithless and Two Door Cinema Club. They also did an excellent remix of LCD Soundsystem's 'You Wanted A Hit' which made my 'Best Of 2010' list last year! ( http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-best-of-2010-lcd_22.html)

This their new remix of 'A Truly Happy Ending'... Enjoy!

Lucky for us Keljet makes all their remixes available as a free download on Soundcloud! If the above remix is to your liking you can download it - along with their LCD Soundsystem remix - and many others here: http://soundcloud.com/keljet/tracks?page=1

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Asino Di Medico!

SummersRadio™ Asino Di Medico! Asino Di Medico - 'Sahib' (Original Mix) So I was checking out the Sneakerz Muzik website (http://www.sneakerzmuzik.nl/) whose latest release is the Yasmin Le Bon track posted below - and I really liked the song playing on the site so I thought I'd post it as well! This monster tune called 'Sahib' is from Asino Di Medico (who is also from Holland) and was released in October - and I like it so much I'm tagging it as a last minute addition to the Best of 2010!... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Deadmau5 & Chris Lake!

SummersRadio™ Best of 2010! Deadmau5 & Chris Lake - 'I Said' (Michael Woods Remix) Toronto's Deadmau5 and London's Chris Lake teamed up on this single which was released in February at the height of Vancouver's Olympic mayhem - helping to make it next to impossible to get into his free performance during the 2010 winter games! The song is included on his 4x4=12 album released earlier this month, and this remix by Michael Woods is one of the finest club singles of the year... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. The Flaming Lips!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring The Flaming Lips - 'Revenge' Oklahoma City's Flaming Lips are featured on the opening track of the Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse release 'Dark Night Of The Soul' - and like all other artists featured on the album - they also had a hand in composing and producing the track! 'Revenge' is a haunting tune that deals with the karma involved when seeking vengeance... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. Julian Casablancas!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring Julian Casablancas - 'Little Girl' Julian Casablancas - vocalist for The Strokes - confirmed last month that their new album was finally completed! It will contain ten songs but the title and release date are still under wraps. 'Little Girl' is featured on my 3rd favorite album of the year - 'Dark Night Of The Soul'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. Jason Lytle!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring Jason Lytle - 'Everytime I'm With You' Like 'Jaykub' posted below this track from 'Dark Night Of The Soul' features the vocals of Jason Lytle and the photos of David Lynch - in a tale about the joys of getting toasted... Cheers!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. Jason Lytle!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring Jason Lytle - 'Jaykub' 'Dark Night Of The Soul' was released in several physical formats - on a single cd, on a single LP, on a double limited heavyweight vinyl set, and in a boxed set limited to 5,000 copies. The boxed set includes 2 albums and two cd's - one each of the regular album and one each of instrumental versions of each track - along with an assortment of photo prints, cards, a poster and a booklet of David Lynch's photography. The book version came out first - and was limited to 5,000 copies as well - along with a poster and a blank cdr - fans were encouraged to download the music off the interweb while it was tied up in litigation! Along with David Lynch, former Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle is the only artist to feature on two songs on the album. This is 'Jaykub' featuring the photos of David Lynch... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Feat. Gruff Rhys!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Featuring Gruff Rhys - 'Just War' After much delay the collaboration between Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse - called 'present Dark Night Of The Soul' finally saw light of day with a proper release in July of this year. Delays were apparently caused by a legal dispute between EMI and Danger Mouse - but then tragically in March Mark Linkous - the leader of Sparklehorse - committed suicide so he never got to see it released. Sad indeed but the gift left behind is a masterpiece so I will feature several tracks from it - the album is an indie rock lovers paradise featuring collaborations with legends such as Frank Black and Iggy Pop. While we may not have achieved world peace this holiday season there's still next year... this is 'Just War' featuring Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals and Neon Neon - the song is accompanied by fitting visuals from a 1983 Soviet anti-war film called 'Konflict' by Garri Bardin - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Luxury Bob!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Luxury Bob - 'Really Nice Guy' Luxury Bob are an indie-folk-pop act from Toronto. 'Really Nice Guy' first appeared as a demo on a Hi-Hat Recordings label compilation last year. The finished version and video was released in February of this year - the first time I posted this was actually Valentine's Day! It was fitting as it's a tale of a girl falling in love - but with a slight twist - as the object of her affection is a homeless man.

So I'm posting it now because it's definitely one of my most favorite songs of 2010 - but of course it's also Christmas Eve. I've only posted two holiday songs thus far this year - Eric Idle's 'Fuck Christmas' and The Vandals 'Hang Myself From The Tree' so that gives you an idea of my feelings on all the hoopla! It's not the day itself per se - it's the fact that we're brainwashed with it for two months prior year after year - and let's face it - a lot of people just aren't really into it or don't celebrate it at all. However, one good thing that comes out of the season is sort of the reminder for all of us to be thankful for what we have - and to remind us to help out those who have not. The homeless gent in this video is played by Vancouver punk and alternative rock legend Art Bergmann. 'Really Nice Guy' will be featured on Luxury Bob's new album called 'in flagrante delico' which is due out in the new year. I love the all the lyrics in this song - but my favorite line is 'he lights up when I mention music' - so do I... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Scissor Sisters!

SummersRadio™ Best of 2010! Scissor Sisters - 'Invisible Light' (Boys Noize Remix) New York's Scissor Sisters released their third studio album called "Night Work' in June. Although it wasn't the first single, around the same time a 12" version of this song surfaced on the interweb remixed by Stuart Price. It's a great remix but then in July German dj and producer Alexander Ridha - better known as Boys Noize - got his hands on it and we have this darker take on it - but still a massive club stomper... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Faithless!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Faithless - 'Not Going Home' Faithless released their sixth studio album in May called 'The Dance'. Their goal according to vocalist Maxi Jazz was to return to the old, with an eye on the future - and they certainly succeeded with this tune - I believe it to be their best single in some years! 'Not Going Home' was released as the second single from the album along with a number of remixes but I still like this original the best. It has this sense of urgency to it sound wise - which fits perfectly with the lyrics - although Maxi Jazz is walking a fine line between between admirer and stalker in this one... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! LCD Soundsystem Remix + Free Download!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010 + Free Download! LCD Soundsystem - 'You Wanted A Hit' (Keljet Remix) This song has also been remixed by Soulwax but I prefer this unofficial bootleg remix by Keljet - a duo who are from the Netherlands. If the layered Ladytron style synths are to your liking you can download a copy for free courtesy of Keljet here: http://soundcloud.com/keljet/lcd-soundsystem-you-wanted-a-hit-keljet-remix  Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! LCD Soundsystem!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! LCD Soundsystem - 'Home' LCD Soundsystem released their third full length studio album called 'This Is Happening' in May - and it ranked at # 2 on my Top 10 Albums of 2010 list! Although 'Home' hasn't officially been released as a single it is one of only two songs from the album that has had an official video made so far. I think that robots are a pretty cool thing to have in a video - and this one knows how to party - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Zero 7 - Remixed!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Zero 7 - 'Destiny' (Fred Falke Remix) Zero 7 released their first singles compilation in June called 'Record - Best Of'. It's available in several formats including a 16 track single cd version, and in the U.K. there's a 2 cd bonus disc deluxe version available that contains an additional 14 remixes. The digital version has a whopping 43 tracks - all 30 songs from the double cd plus 4 additional remixes and 9 videos! 'Destiny' first appeared on their debut 'Simple Things' and was released as a single in the summer of 2001. This remix from France's Fred Falke is one of the digital only remixes - and he brings the downtempo/ chillout classic straight into clubland... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Top 10 Albums!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010 - Top 10 Albums! The Chemical Brothers - 'Escape Velocity' from 'Further' So since I have an account with the blog of all music blogs - The Hype Machine (http://hypem.com/) I was sent an e-mail suggesting that I submit a list of my Top 10 Albums Of 2010 for a chance to be featured on their annual 'Music Blog Zeitgeist' which launches on Jan. 3rd! Now this would be pretty cool I must say - but I've been posting my Best Of 2010 list by tracks, since many songs - and even more remixes - aren't even on proper albums. However if I was to commit to a list of my favorite (and let's be honest - all best of lists are favorites - be it of an individual or what is thought to be popular opinion) I suspect that my list would look something quite resembling this...

Now I agonized a fair bit over my choice for the number one album - as one and two are so very close for me - they were both total 'summer' albums - they both have solid tracklistings. 'This Is Happening' certainly has more going on lyrically - but the Chems arguably have more going on sonically - and yet the sparse lyrics they do have make for great hooks. It was a tough decision - but if I had to consider which one truly was my official summer album it was 'Further'. Picture it - Vancouver 2010 - warm summer afternoons. As I look out the window overlooking the beach and English Bay, the spinning disco ball in the livingroom is illuminated only by the sun's light - it's diamond shapes reflecting on the walls and shining through a slight bit of smoke brought on by B.C.'s finest export - and this song is playing in the background - it was perfect. There were some days when I just let the album play over 3 times in a row - and there aren't many albums you can do that with. Sadly 'Further' has been their least successful album commercially - their five previous albums all hit number one in the U.K. but this one didn't even chart due to one of the many rules in the British chart system. It also appears to be their first studio album not to go gold or platinum anywhere in the world - thus far. So perhaps 15 years on from their first album they're underdogs of sorts now - but I hereby declare this to be their finest album since 1999's pre-millennium opus 'Surrender'!

So I present now both my favorite track from 'Further' - 'Escape Velocity' - a 12 minute epic and obvious partial tribute to The Who's 'Baba O'Riley' (which is pretty electronically based if you think about it) edited down here to ten minutes to fit youtube's requirements - AND my list of Top 10 Albums Of 2010! This video is amazing too - I love the part about 8 minutes in that totally encapsulates the feeling of moving through the dancefloor at a big party - or dare I say it - rave! Enjoy!

p.s. please check out my 50 plus fantastic individual songs and remixes tagged under the regular Best Of 2010 label for the full SummersRadio™ experience!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Chemical Brothers! (Official Video)

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Chemical Brothers - 'Horse Power' (Official Video) One of the things that put the Chemical Brothers album 'Further' above the rest for me was the accompanying dvd. Although the band has always had great visuals - both live and for their individual singles - for the first time they also released a dvd containing videos specifically made for each and every track - in one continuous mix as they are on the album! So in addition to the remix I wanted to post this version of 'Horse Power' as well for those of you who haven't seen the video. This isn't your typical 'wooden horse' - it's fully brought to life in this hypnotic piece... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Chemical Brothers!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Chemical Brothers - Horse Power (Popof Remix) The Chemical Brothers released their seventh studio album called 'Further' in June. Later in August they released a number of remixes - four online - and three of them on a limited 12". There were two of 'Swoon' (from Boys Noize and Lindstrom & Prins Thomas) and one of 'Dissolve' (by Bloody Beetroots - digitally only). Also included was this one of 'Horse Power' by Paris's Popof, who punches it up just enough to make a good song great - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! OMD!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! O.M.D. - 'History Of Modern (Part 1)' For the first time in 14 years Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark released a new album - and it's also the first time since 1989 that it included both founding members Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys! They first reformed in 2007, and after two years of sellout tours they released their new album entitled 'History Of Modern' on Sept. 20th. They've released two official singles so far - 'If You Want It' and 'Sister Marie Says' - but I think this track is way stronger. It sounds very modern but at the same time like classic OMD - if they don't release this as the next single they're totally missing out on a potential hit - plus I'd love to see some remixes of this one! This is part 1 of the two part title track 'History Of Modern' - and it's most certainly one of my favorites songs of 2010... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The xx - Remixed!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! The xx - 'VCR' (Four Tet Remix) This remix from fellow Elliot School alumni Four Tet came out this September. A fan has the remix accompanied by footage from the 1940 animated film 'Fantasia' which I believe Avatar owes a bit to... Enjoy!
