Classic! DJ Pierre has been part of the Chicago acid house scene for 25 years! He was a member of Phuture who released what is largely regarded as the very first acid house recording - 1987's 'Acid Trax' EP.
Pierre has worked under many aliases including Photon, Inc. - who had their first hit in 1991 on the Strictly Rhythm label. This is the 'Wild Ptch Mix' of 'Generate Power' featuring the vocals of Paula Brion - and it's classic hypnotic bassline... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bart Skils - 'Dust' Bart Schils aka Bart Skils is a Dutch dj/ producer/ promoter from Amsterdam. He's just released a new two track EP called 'Dust/ Santiago' on Christian Smith's Tronic label today! Now you may recognize the vocal sample used in 'Dust' - although it sounds like a possibly crazy person like Nick Nolte or even Jack Nicholson from some movie - it's actually from another song called 'So Get Up' by Portuguese duo Underground Sound Of Lisbon (who are also responsible for another underground classic from NYLX that I posted last November http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/11/summersradio-classic-nylx-feat-lula.html).
'So Get Up' features lyrics by Korvorwong aka Darin Pappas - who is now more commonly known as artist/ musician Ithaka. The song was first released in 1993 as a b-side and then properly as an a-side single in 1994. I will post the original as well as it deserves props but you may also recognize the sample from other sources - including as the intro for Miss Kittin's 'Radio Caroline Vol. 1' mix cd in 2003, and sampled in Stretch & Vern's 1997 hit 'Get Up! Go Insane!'. It's also been sampled in several other songs - as an acapella version was included on the 1994 single.
Although the sample may be familiar, Bart Skils track 'Dust' sounds fresh for 2011 due to the wicked groove he's created to accompany it... Enjoy!

The Underground Sound Of Lisbon was a collaboration between Rui da Silva aka Doctor J and DJ Vibe. A tenth anniversary edition of 'So Get Up' was released in 2004 featuring 8 mixes - including remixes by Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez, Eric Kupper and others. I still like the acid house feel of the original version - here's the 'Original Mix' of 'So Get Up' from the Underground Sound Of Lisbon featuring the spoken word lyrics of (and written by) Ithaka... SummersRadio™ New Music! Redshape - 'Funky Green Hat' (Altered Mix) 'Funky Green Hat' is one of just two tracks on the new label compilation from Poker Flat Recordings that appears twice. 'Elements Of Fife' by The Revenge, and this track 'Funky Green Hat' have two different mixes featured on the 'Forward To The Past' compilation. SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Kate Bush - 'King Of The Mountain' (Kick Inside Remix) If I may indulge... the last 24 hours have been largely craptacular - although two cool things did happen. The first occurred last night when I first heard about - and got to listen to - Kate Bush's new 'Director's Cut' of 'Deeper Understanding' which is posted below.
I had no idea that it was coming out - and it's two minutes longer than the original - and more experimental - like something from 'The Dreaming' or 'Hounds Of Love' - I love it! I must confess that when I first heard what sounded like autotune (the devil - if ever there was one) I was suddenly very afraid, but then it distorts and goes into separate harmonies and it's just beautiful.
The other good thing was that I saw this abandoned plant in the parking garage - which I quickly adopted. It needs to be repoted (Is that a word? It is now!) post haste, but it's awesome!
Anyway, to further celebrate the release of the new Kate Bush 'reworks' I thought what better time to also post not only my favorite Kate Bush remix - but also one of my favorite remixes of all time! (partly as it's such a remarkable transformation) 'King Of The Mountain' is from her 2005 release 'Aerial' - which was then her first album in twelve years! Although it was a double cd in two parts, 'King Of The Mountain' was the first and only single released from the album.
This 'Kick Inside Remix' was released on a very limited run of white label 12" singles. If you have it, or if you're lucky enough to find a copy of this on vinyl, may I suggest that you play it with the tempo slowed way down - Stoner House™ style?! It starts with a nice tech house feel - but then it unexpectantly starts to transform around 4:30 to 5 minutes in - and then a minute later it's pretty much full on acid house/ techno Kate Bush - AMAZING! If you know nothing of Kate Bush just listen to this song and the one posted below and I suspect that the odds are pretty good that you'll want to hear more!
I'm not really a fan of videos with the full lyrics popping up - I mean I'm huge on quality lyrics, but I find lyrics in giant letters rather distracting - and it can also take away from the subtlety of great lyrics. However, this clip also features some amazing photographs of the always lovely Kate - and wonderful moments of slow fades and strange blackness - that adds to this remix's already trippy nature! He's held residencies at legendary clubs such as the Hacienda and The End. 'Flashback' first appeared on his second album called '30' which was released in 1997. This is a new remix by Christian Smith and Wehbba - and the video features the fascinating work of German experimental filmmaker Matthias Muller... Enjoy!

S'Express - 'Theme From S'Express' Like myself you may have recognized the sample in the Moullinex track below from this 1988 club classic - however this isn't where it originated! As Moullinex mentions on Soundcloud 'And yeah, the sample is blatant.. and No, it's not S'Express... ;)' The horn sample is from a song called 'Is It Love You're After' by Rose Royce from their 1979 album called 'Rose Royce IV: Rainbow Connection'. Rose Royce were a soul/ funk band from Los Angeles and are best known for their title track from the 1976 hit movie 'Car Wash'.
The main force behind S'Express was dj/ producer Mark Moore and although this song is based around the Rose Royce sample, it's just one of 15 songs that were sampled in the 'Theme From S'Express'. The song is considered a classic for both it's use of samples and also because it brought the acid house sound to the masses - reaching number 1 on both the U.K. singles and U.S. club charts.
