SummersRadio™ New Music! Woodhead - 'Hot Stuff' Vancouver's Darren Woodhead has a new self titled 7 track EP out on Calgary's Punchout! Recordings label. It contains six songs plus one remix - a collection of disco and funk re-edits, along with this disco house number called 'Hot Stuff'. The EP is currently available exclusively on Juno Download here: http://www.junodownload.com/products/woodhead-ep/1692957-02/?highlight=WOODHEAD and it's already ranked #3 on the disco/ nu-disco chart for this week's releases! It will also see a full release on other sites on Monday the 31st. I previously posted his excellent dubstep remix of Brenda Lee's 'I'm Sorry' here on Dec. 12th, as part of my Best Of 2010 listings - and it's been in my top 5 most viewed posts ever since! You can check it out here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-best-of-2010-brenda-lee.html This is the 5th track on his new EP - 'Hot Stuff'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Brenda Lee - 'I'm Sorry' (Woodhead & Blenda Remix) This song beats the Jesus & Mary Chain's cover of 'Surfin' U.S.A.' as the oldest song I've posted a cover or remix of thus far! 'I'm Sorry' is Brenda Lee's signature song and it hit number one in the summer of 1960 when she was only 15! She is also very well known for her 1958 holiday classic 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' which initially only sold about 5,000 copies in '58 and when re-released in '59 - but after the success of 'I'm Sorry' and it's third holiday release in 1960 it has since gone on to sell over 5 million copies! On a headline tour of the U.K. in the early sixties her opening act was none other than the (then) little known group from Liverpool posted below - the Beatles!
This remix by Woodhead and Blenda was released in April. Woodhead is a Vancouver dj and producer who is also a resident at Signal Saturdays at the Lotus. What makes this such a great remix is perhaps what an unlikely combination it seems to be. Although now that I think about it - both this and 'Eleanor Rigby' are from the 60's - and feature prominent string arrangements - and both fit together perfectly! This one came first though and while 4center goes for a monstrous sound this one is pretty chill - resulting in one of the finest and most unique remixes of the year - dubstep or otherwise - Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Acid Girls - 'The Numbers Song' The Acid Girls are in fact not girls at all - they are a dj duo and production team - Gregory Bowler and Jamie McNiel, who are based in L.A. They will be in town this Saturday night at Signal at the Lotus along with residents Darren Woodhead and Joseph Martin... Enjoy!
