SummersRadio™ New Music! Daft Punk Featuring Pharrell Williams - 'Lose Yourself To Dance'/ Daft Punk Featuring Paul Williams - 'Touch'
The cat is out of the sac! Daft Punk's new disco album 'Random Access Memories' is available for streaming in full online - including on iTunes. Although it's proper retail release is still a week away (in North America - it's released Friday in Australia, Germany and the Netherlands and Monday in the U.K. and France) fans can hear the entire album now.
If you don't have 74 minutes to sit down and listen to it in it's entirety I've chosen a couple standout tracks to feature to give you a taste.
Let's begin with track six - like 'Get Lucky' it features vocals from Pharrell Williams - called 'Lose Yourself To Dance'. Although this is a dance album, of course not all tracks are dancey per se - this song seems like an obvious choice for a future single given the instant commercial success of 'Get Lucky'. I like the layered vocoder effects on this one... Enjoy!
'Touch' is the seventh track on the thirteen track album - and it grabbed my attention right away as it's perhaps the album's most epic, spaced out number.
While we're connected to each other in so very many ways even when we're alone, the modern technological world seems to forget the importance of actual human touch. The song encapsulates a bit of this sadness at first but then cheers up - featuring the (mostly) spoken word vocals of Paul Williams (who also wrote the lyrics)... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Stardust! Giraffage!
SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Stardust - 'Music Sounds Better With You' (Giraffage Remix)
Giraffage has just released a new remix of Stardust's classic 'Music Sounds Better With You' online! San Francisco's Charlie Yin aka Giraffage has remixed the one-off track written by Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter and Alan Braxe - featuring the vocals of Benjamin Diamond which was released in 1998.
Giraffage adds a hypnotic keyboard riff that gives the song a more laid back feel while still maintaining it's club vibe and if it's to your liking you can download a copy for free from his Soundcloud page here: https://soundcloud.com/giraffage/music-sounds-better-with-you
Giraffage is also coming to Vancouver next month - he'll be live at the Fortune Sound Club on Tuesday June 25th. Enjoy...!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Daft Punk!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers - 'Get Lucky' (Official Radio Edit)
Daft Punk have just officially released their new single on iTunes today! Between the release of their first song teaser played on Saturday Night Live on March 2nd and today the internet has been flooded with loops and home made edits of what the full track might sound like. You can revisit the first clip and my story of meeting the band here:
http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2013/03/summersradio-commercial-break-daft-punk.html
So if you're on the net a lot you'll know that it's been a brilliant marketing campaign but it was getting rather annoying - there's been so much hype and yet no one really had anything to say about the song itself . On the other hand why comment until you've heard the real thing? I love Daft Punk. However I'm not a fan of Pharrell's vocals - they turned me off the song to some degree from the start - although there's no denying the classic sound of Nile Rodgers' funky guitar work.
I'm clearly divided on the song's appeal - if they wanted to make a song that sounds as good as his recordings did with Chic and Sister Sledge, then they succeeded. The thing is that as perfect as that sound is, it just doesn't feel as fresh in 2013 as it did back in the day.
So while I anxiously await the release of some quality remixes (I reckon the internet will be flooded with a new wave of them tomorrow) sans Pharrell (the vocoder bits are cool though) we have here the official final proper radio edit as released on iTunes today... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Commercial Break! Daft Punk!
SummersRadio™ Commercial Break! Daft Punk - New Tv Ad!
Daft Punk are a duo of mystery. I was lucky enough to meet them in their early days - in '97 - before the masks. Interestingly Canada was the first country to give them a gold record - it went gold here before even the U.K. and France. I had my picture taken with them at the presentation but I never got a copy - the word from EMI was that they didn't turn out - I think it was at the band's request since it's now well known that they prefer to hide their faces from us humans.
While we've certainly had our share of fake new Daft Punk music in recent years - last night/ this morning a wee clip of the real thing aired during Saturday Night Live - a mere fifteen second spot with music and their logo (looking more sparkly than ever) and nothing more. Naturally the internet is abuzz today with anticipation.
Now what do we make of this clue - this tiny teaser? It's just fifteen seconds of funky guitar disco that could just have easily been recorded in 1977. Does this mean that they're going more disco and less electronic? Only time will tell - at least we can be sure that new Daft Punk music is on the way someday soon - which is certainly more to look forward to - and much better than just another false alarm!
In case you were out partying or sleeping while this aired - here's the commercial... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ It's 2012! Rare Remix! Chic!
SummersRadio™ It's 2012! Rare Remix! Chic - 'Good Times' (2004 Remix) So it's 2012. Some people think that the world is going to end this year - on Dec. 21st to be precise. (so if even if 'they' are right there's still lots of time!) Personally I don't buy into it - you see there have been several notable times over the years when the world was scheduled to end - and countless less notable ones. (see May 21st of last year: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/05/summersradio-end-of-world.html) And the one thing that each prediction has in common is that none of them came true - if we don't remember the past we're bound to repeat the same mistakes.
In the 70's the world was supposed to be taken over by robots. Sure 'they took our jobs' (some of them) but four decades later they've yet to overpower us humans. In the 80's there was the whole 'Brave New World' thing - and when nothing happened in 1984, the fear was rescheduled for 85 - but nothing happened then either. And of course there was the ongoing fear of nuclear war, and then in 1999 there was that nasty Y2K bug - but no planes fell from the sky and the world didn't end then either.
So now it's 2012 - and I'm willing to wager that we'll pretty much all still be here this time in 2013. I would like to share a quote that a wise person once said outside of my tent at the Soundwave Music Festival on Vancouver Island - 'If you're going to perpare for the worst, then you might as well prepare for the best as well'. Sound advice I'd say.
By the time Chic's 'Good Times' was released from their album called 'Risque' in the summer of 1979, the fear of robots had pretty much subsided. The song was a massive number one hit - it's been a huge influence on both dance and rap music - and it has gone on to become one of the most sampled songs of all time. 'Good Times' has famously been used as the backing track for the Sugarhill Gang's classic 'Rapper's Delight' and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's '...On The Wheels Of Steel'. It also inspired two other massive hits - Blondie's 'Rapture' and Queen's 'Another One Bites The Dust' - and even Daft Punk's club anthem 'Around The World'!
This disco house remix was released as a limited white label 12" single (actually the label was more of a light blue!) in the U.S. in 2004. This is the peppy '2004 Remix' of 'Good Times' - aside from the aforementioned quote, my advice for 2012 would simply be 'Party On'... Enjoy!
p.s. when I've fully recovered from last night's shenanigans I shall begin Part Two of the Best Of 2011 Countown - the Top 25 Electronic & Club tunes of the year - so keep your dancing shoes near! Stay tuned.

SummersRadio™ New-ish Music! (previously unreleased) Daft Punk! Bonus Track!
SummersRadio™ New-ish Music! (previousy unreleased) Daft Punk - 'Drive'/ Daft Punk - 'Derezzed' (Casettes Won't Listen Remix) + Free Download! A previously unreleased Daft Punk song from 1994 (!) is being released today! (after midnight) :) Soma Records - the Scottish techno/ house label started by Slam is celebrating it's 20th Anniversary this year - and they've just released a new compilation appropriately titled 'Soma Records 20 Years'!
The release is available as a triple cd set and download. The first disc is subtitled 'Soma Classics' and features 11 tracks - the opener being this Daft Punk song. Disc two is a 'Slam DJ Mix' featuring 19 tracks and disc three is a 'Silicone Soul DJ Mix' collection featuring 18 tracks.
'Drive' was recorded in 1994 - so Soma's been sitting on this gem for 17 years! This predates the Soma release of the 'Da Funk' single by two years - and their debut album 'Homework' by three. Funny thing is though - if you compare 'Drive' to say 'Derezzed' from their soundtrack to 'Tron: Legacy' - one might say that their sound has been rather... consistent. This is the previously unreleased 'Drive' from Daft Punk... Enjoy!

Bonus Track! It's always a pleasure to revisit this remix of 'Derezzed' by Cassettes Won't Listen - and as a double bonus it's still available as a free download on Soundcloud here: http://soundcloud.com/somekindofawesome/daft-punk-derezzed-cassettes-wont-listen-remix courtesy of Some Kind Of Awesome: http://www.somekindofawesome.com/ ...Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Daft Punk!
SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Daft Punk - 'Aerodynamic' (F.U.N.K.Y Remix) This song is currently soundtracking tonight's amazing sunset at English Bay - it's pefectly funky and chill at the same time! F.U.N.K.Y is a 19 year old electro producer from Lyon France. He's recently made this excellent remix of fellow Frenchmen Daft Punk's 'Aerodynamic' - which was one of the singles from 2001's 'Discovery' album.
If this ace remix is to your liking you can download a copy for free on SoundCloud courtesy of F.U.N.K.Y (no period after the Y apparently!) himself here: http://soundcloud.com/funkyfever/daft-punk-aerodynamic-f-u-n-k-y-remix

SummersRadio™ New Remix vs Classic Remix! Scott Grooves!
SummersRadio™ New Remix vs Classic Remix! Scott Grooves feat. Parliament Funkadelic - 'Mothership Reconnection' (Claude VonStroke Energy Pattern Remix)/ (Daft Punk Remix) Today we have a battle - a brand new remix versus a classic 12 year old remix! For myself declaring the winner was easy - but I'll post both so you can decide for yourself!
Soma Quality Recordings was started in 1991 by Scottish duo Slam. This year as part of their 20th anniversary celebration they're releasing a series of singles containing remixes of songs from their extensive catalogue.
'Mothership Reconnection' was first released in 1999 - featuring remixes from several artists including Funk D'Void, Slam and Daft Punk. This new release - which is out digitally now, and on vinyl May 16th - features a brand new remix by Barclay Crenshaw aka Claude VonStroke. It also features the original Daft Punk remix from 1999. So in this corner we have the new 'Claude VonStroke Energy Pattern Remix'... Enjoy!
And in this corner we have the b-side if you will - one of the original remixes from 1999 - by Daft Punk! I'm biased of course - as this is one of my ALL TIME favorite remixes - in the history of humans! And it still sounds AMAZING twelve years on... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Daft Punk/ Crystal Method!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Daft Punk - 'The Grid' (Crystal Method Remix) Another new remix from the forthcoming soundtrack remix album 'Tron Legacy R3CONF1GUR3D' released on April 5th! (see the Sander Kleinenberg post below for the full tracklisting) WOW! Do The Crystal Method ever do a number on this one - I love this remix - Enjoy!!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Daft Punk/ Sander Kleinenberg!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Daft Punk - 'Tron Legacy (End Titles)' (Sander Kleinenberg Remix) Well here's something that you don't hear of everyday - a soundtrack remix album! Walt Disney Records have announced that they're releasing a collection of remixes of selected tracks from 'Tron Legacy' called 'Tron Legacy R3CONF1GUR3D'! It will contain 15 tracks and it's released on April 5th.
This makes perfect sense because I'm sure that more than one or two Daft Punk fans were a bit disappointed that the original soundtrack didn't have much in the way of clubby tunes - and those that were close were too short - but then as we all know it was written to fit the film. So considering Daft Punk's huge fanbase - which I suspect has widened even further with this soundtrack - I wouldn't be surprised to see this remix album become a top 10 hit as well. First here's a full tracklist for 'Tron Legacy R3CONF1GUR3D' - complete with details of who's done each remix:
Tracklist
01. Derezzed (The Glitch Mob Remix)
02. Fall (M83 VS Big Black Delta Remix)
03. The Grid (The Crystal Method Remix)
04. Adagio for TRON (Teddybears Remix)
05. The Son of Flynn (Ki:Theory Remix)
06. C.L.U. (Paul Oakenfold Remix)
07. The Son of Flynn (Moby Remix)
08. End of Line (Boys Noize Remix)
09. Rinzler (Kaskade Remix)
10. Encom Part 2 (Com Truise Remix)
11. End of Line (Photek Remix)
12. Arena (The Japanese Popstars Remix)
13. Derezzed (Avicii Remix)
14. Solar Sailer (Pretty Lights Remix)
15. TRON Legacy (End Titles) (Sander Kleinenberg Remix)
I'm already more excited about this than I was for the original soundtrack - so, let's hear a few shall we? Let's start at the end - because I like to do things differently here at SummersRadio™. This is 'Tron Legacy (End Titles)' remixed by Dutch dj/ producer Sander Kleinenberg... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Daft Punk/ Basic Slack!
SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Downloads! Daft Punk - 'Solar Sailer' (Basic Slack Remix) While Daft Punk's score for the 'Tron: Legacy' film contains more orchestration than beats, a number of great bootleg remixes have surfaced online. (Check out my previous post for the awesome Cassettes Won't Listen remix of 'Derezzed'' on Nov. 21st!) Paris's N'Joy has just released a remix of 'Solar Sailer' this week which you can check out here: http://soundcloud.com/njoy-1/daft-punk-solar-sailer-njoy-remix
However, I much prefer this remix from fellow Parisian Basic Slack - who has actually remixed 6 different tracks from the soundtrack! You can join Basic Slack's Facebook group and access the link to download the 6 pack for free here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Basic-Slack/102811063963?v=wall
