SummersRadio™ Classic! S'Express - 'Theme From S'Express' Like myself you may have recognized the sample in the Moullinex track below from this 1988 club classic - however this isn't where it originated! As Moullinex mentions on Soundcloud 'And yeah, the sample is blatant.. and No, it's not S'Express... ;)' The horn sample is from a song called 'Is It Love You're After' by Rose Royce from their 1979 album called 'Rose Royce IV: Rainbow Connection'. Rose Royce were a soul/ funk band from Los Angeles and are best known for their title track from the 1976 hit movie 'Car Wash'.
The main force behind S'Express was dj/ producer Mark Moore and although this song is based around the Rose Royce sample, it's just one of 15 songs that were sampled in the 'Theme From S'Express'. The song is considered a classic for both it's use of samples and also because it brought the acid house sound to the masses - reaching number 1 on both the U.K. singles and U.S. club charts. SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Friendly Fires!
SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Friendly Fires - 'Strangelove' 'Strangelove' was Depeche Mode's 18th single in the U.K. - released in 1987 (88 in North America) - and was from their brilliant 'Music For The Masses' album. This August Friendly Fires recorded the song for use in a Gucci Guilty perfume ad in the U.K. I was a bit weary when I first heard about this - but it's a grower - their cover is faithful enough to the original to be respectable but also different enough to be interesting... SummersRadio™ Classic Cover! The Jesus And Mary Chain - 'Surfin' USA' That Trentemoller song gave me a hankering for some more surf music - SummersRadio™ style! The Beach Boys first released 'Surfin U.S.A'. in 1963 - this version by Scotland's Jesus And Mary Chain can be found on their 1988 compilation of b-sides and rarities called 'Barbed Wire Kisses'. This feedback fueled version comes complete with a trippy fan made video... Enjoy!
