SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Paperfangs - 'Lifelong' I fell in love with Finland's Paperfangs just over a year ago I reckon - in fact it was on November 9th 2010 - a Tuesday. I like their mix of both acoustic and electronic instruments - and their use of samples. I also quite like the singer - his melancholy but romantic voice reminds me a bit of Dntel's Jimmy Tamborello and in another way Jon Marsh from The Beloved. Back in 2010 I could only feature one song per post due to Fb issues so I posted their first two songs separately. 'Lifelong' features an enthusiastic (and possibly insane) sounding child's vocal sample - great keyboard sounds - and the wonderfully simple yet romantic lyric(s) 'You said lifelong/ is it still on'. It also has some kind of cool bell - not cow per se - perhaps tubular :) ... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Delay Trees!

SummersRadio™ Delay Trees - 'Gold' Try as I may, of course no one can always be one of the first to hear about every great new band or song - it's not mathematically possible! Sometimes music drifts your way at it's own pace - perhaps when the timing is just right. Such is the case with Finland's Delay Trees - they released their self titled debut full length album here in North America on the Friendly Fire Recordings label in May - but I've only recently discovered them.

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stop Modernists featuring Chris Lowe!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stop Modernists featuring Chris Lowe - 'Subculture' (Main Vocal Extended/ Dub) Yesterday's Canada Day post featured a new remix from the Pet Shop Boys - today's new music features vocals from one of them - but not singer Neil Tennant's! Stop Modernists is the name of a collaboration between Finnish dj/ producers and longtime friends Jori Hulkkonen and Alex Neiminen.

'Subculture' is a cover of New Order's classic single from their excellent album 'Low-Life' which was released in 1985. It features vocals from Chris Lowe - the quieter half of the Pet Shop Boys duo - the one who seldom speaks - and who even more rarely sings! The song is released on the Helsinki based Keys Of Life label and features two versions - the 'Main Vocal Extended' and 'Dub' versions. The 'Dub' version still features Lowe on vocals but via a vocoder, adding to it's electro feel. 

Of course the Pet Shop Boys are no strangers to New Order having previously been part of the 'alternative dance supergroup' Electronic - that featured New Order's Bernard Sumner and the Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr. They collaborated on three tracks that all featured Neil Tennant on vocals - two of which were singles - 'Getting Away With It' and 'Disappointed'.

This cover is very faithful to the original - which may lead one to question why one would do it - but when you've been a fan of New Order and the Pet Shop Boys as long as I have it makes no difference! It's a quality cover - with Chris Lowe's delivery being similar to Bernard Sumner's trademark understated vocals. I like both versions of the track, so here they are - starting with the 'Main Vocal Extended' version... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Chemical Brothers - 'The Devil Is In The Beats' This is the fourth track on the 20 song score to the 'Hanna' soundtrack which is released exclusively on itunes this coming Tuesday. The film (which opens on April 8th) was shot in Bavaria, Morocco, Berlin, and Finland. Director Joe Wright cites David Lynch as a major influence and he says that 'it's not a typical action movie' rather more of a 'fairytale action movie drama'. 'It's quite a dark film in a couple of ways' he adds. This song sounds like it might be featured in one of the more upbeat surreal portions of the film - but with a title like 'The Devil Is In The Beats' - I can only speculate... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Best Of 2010! Bjork - 'The Comet Song' It's perhaps more the video and the fact that this song was written especially for the new 3D movie 'Moomins And The Comet Chase' than just the song itself that makes this one of my favorites of the year - this is no 'Big Time Sensuality' or 'It's Oh So Quiet' - but I love Moomins!!! Apparently Bjork is also a big fan of Tove Jansson's childrens books - they were my favorite when I was a wee lad - someday I want to go to Moomin Valley and visit the Moomin house! The stop motion film has been remade from a tv series that ran in the late 70's and early 80's and it was released in Finland in August - and there are plans in the works to also produce it in over a dozen languages for a full worldwide release. Only Bjork could get away with performing a song for a childrens movie that uses the word 'dammit' several times and mentions childrens graves - but somehow it all seems to fit - this is 'The Comet Song'... Enjoy!
