SummersRadio™ Classic Cover! The Jesus And Mary Chain!

SummersRadio™ Classic Cover! The Jesus And Mary Chain - 'Surfin' USA' That Trentemoller song gave me a hankering for some more surf music - SummersRadio™ style! The Beach Boys first released 'Surfin U.S.A'. in 1963 - this version by Scotland's Jesus And Mary Chain can be found on their 1988 compilation of b-sides and rarities called 'Barbed Wire Kisses'. This feedback fueled version comes complete with a trippy fan made video... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Trentemoller!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Trentemoller - 'Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!!' (Trentemoller Remix) Denmark's Anders Trentemoller has just released 'Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!!' as the third single off his second studio album 'Into The Great Wide Yonder', which was released in May. The EP includes the album version and 3 remixes - from Andrew Weatherall, Lulu Rouge and Abdullah S, and this one from Trentemoller himself! This mix is like half a century of styles in one song - it's part 60's surf music, with 70's Giorgio Moroder style disco, 80's industrial, and 90's indie dance rock - all brought into the 21st century... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Fantastic Plastic Machine!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Fantastic Plastic Machine - 'Love Is Psychedelic' (Bob Sinclar Remix) Like Shinichi Osawa, Japan's Tanaka Tomoyki aka Fantastic Plastic Machine is also associated with Avex - one of Japan's leading entertainment groups. They have also collaborated together recently under the name 'Ravex' to mark 20 years of the Avex record label. The original version of this song was included on Fantastic Plastic Machine's 2001 album 'Beautiful' but it was this remix by Bob Sinclar that brought the song to new heights to create an unforgettable club classic... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Shinichi Osawa!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Shinichi Osawa Feat. Tommie Sunshine - 'Love Will Guide You' (Edwin Van Cleef Remix) Japan's Shinichi Osawa aka Mondo Grosso released his most recent album called 'SO2' in June - and later this week he is set to release a new collection of remixes appropriately titled 'SO2 Remixes'! This version of 'Love Will Guide You' was previously only available as a edit just over 3 minutes long on a mix cd - but this full length version was posted online just a few hours ago... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Etienne De Crecy!

0, SummersRadio™ New Remix! Etienne De Crecy - 'No Brain' (Munk Remix) I posted the 'TAI Remix' of this a couple weeks ago but I think I like this one even better. It's more housey than electro - and it has a nice swagger to it... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Video! Hardfloor!

SummersRadio™ New Video! Hardfloor - 'Silver Submarine' Hardfloor have just released the official video for the first single from their new album called 'Two Guys Three Boxes'. My post on Nov. 10th for the 12" teaser of 'Silver Submarine' has been quite popular so I thought I'd post the new video as well. Looks like they were going for a low budget porno look here - complete with a 'hot' ironing scene! There aren't too many of those in music videos... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! The Human League!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! The Human League - 'Filling Dub With Heaven' (Hardfloor Remix) It's no wonder that The Human League decided to take a break after 2001's 'Secrets' album. The timing seemed perfect - just as electroclash was gaining popularity - and many critics hailed it as their best since 'Dare'. However sadly their record label at the time Papillon had financial problems and they were shut down shortly after the albums release, leading to poor promotion and sales. The band nearly called it a day but they've stuck together and they've since had numerous successful tours. 'Filling Up With Heaven' was the third single released from their 1995 comeback album 'Octopus' and this dub version was remixed by Hardfloor... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Human League!

SummersRadio™ 2 For 1 Remix Sunday! The Human League - 'Night People' (Emperor Machine Remix) 'Night People' is the first single from the Human League's new forthcoming studio album - their ninth - entitled 'Credo' which is due for release in March. It is their first new album in a decade - since 2001's 'Secrets'. This remix hasn't been released yet - this is a radio rip - so I suspect that further remix packages are forthcoming in addition to the limited 12" mentioned below. Emperor Machine goes for a total Giorgio Moroder sound here... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Human League!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Human League - 'Night People' (Cerrone Club Mix) The Human League are back! They've just released their first new single in nine years called 'Night People'! The album version has been released digitally this week and on Dec. 13th it will be released on a heavy vinyl 12" limited to 1,000 copies on the Wall Of Sound label. It features the album version, a remix by Mylo and this one from disco legend Cerrone - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Radiohead!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Radiohead - 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)' (Funkagenda Remix) The clips from this video featured in the Primal Scream video below reminded me of this amazing remix. Remixing this song could have been a complete disaster (and it has been - I'd recommend steering clear of the others that are out there) but this one's got class! Funkagenda released this as a limited 12" in 2008 - and a fan has looped the video to make it last nearly seven minutes as well... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Primal Scream!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Primal Scream - 'Higher Than The Sun' (A Dub Symphony In Two Parts) This is an interesting fan made video for this track wonderfully produced by Andrew Weatherall from 'Screamadelica' - it doesn't feature the band at all - it's mostly clips from other artists videos such as Kate Bush, Radiohead and Blur to name a few. It's an odd idea on paper but they're all cool artists and they're mostly trippy visuals so it actually works... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Primal Scream!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Primal Scream - 'Come Together' Primal Scream have just announced that they will be releasing a 20th Anniversary Edition of their seminal 1991 album 'Screamadelica' - and it will be remastered by the band and My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields! This is one of my top five favorite albums of all time so this is pretty exciting news!

The regular version of 'Screamadelica 20' will be 2 discs - the second disc consisting of the 'Dixie Narco' EP. There's also going to be an elaborate collector's edition available that will come with four remastered cd's and a gatefold vinyl release of their 'Live In L.A. 1992' recording. Also included is a remastered version of their 'Dixie Narco' EP and best of all a cd of remixes!! And if that's not enough there will also be a dvd documentary called 'The Making Of Screamadelica' and a 50 page book, a 12" slipmat featuring the cover art, a tour t-shirt and 5 art cards. It also includes a brand new car! Ok maybe not the car, but wow! There's a limited 'White Box' edition available from the band - limited to 500 copies - and the first 100 will be signed by the band! The heartbreaking part is that they're not making it available to fans in North America for some reason - sob! But for those of you who are in eligible countries you can preorder now from here: http://www.screamadelica20.com/gb/splash/

If you're not eligible to order the 'White Box' version you can also preorder the 'regular' Collector's Edition (instead of a numbered white box the goodies are enclosed in a package resembling the album cover) here:

http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1;-1&sku=708911

These new 'Screamadelica 20' versions will be released on March 7th - only 99 more days! This is the only proper video released from the album - 'Come Together' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Cover! Curve!

SummersRadio™ Curve - 'I Feel Love' This version of Donna Summer's 1977 disco/ electronic classic produced by Giorgio Moroder was hard to find for many years as it was initially only released on the limited edition 3cd set called 'Ruby Trax' - which was released in celebration of the NME's 40th anniversary! It was released in 1992 and featured 40 of the coolest artists at the time doing a cover of their favorite number one song of the last 40 years! It was an amazing compilation but it's long out of print, however the song can now be found on Curve's double best of collection called 'The Way Of Curve 1990/ 2004' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ School Of Seven Bells!

SummersRadio™ School Of Seven Bells - 'Windstorm' This one reminds me a bit of the Cocteau Twins... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ School Of Seven Bells!

SummersRadio™ School Of Seven Bells - 'Babelonia' School Of Seven Bells consists of Benjamin Curtis (former member of Secret Machines) and identical twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza (formerly of On!Air!Library!) - although it was announced just last month on their Facebook page that Claudia has left the band for personal reasons. They released their second album entitled 'Disconnect From Desire' on July 13th. This track is perhaps my favorite from the album called 'Babelonia'- it has a dreamy indie rock sound reminiscent of the shoegazer sound of bands like Curve and early Lush - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Video! School Of Seven Bells!

SummersRadio™ New Video! School Of Seven Bells - 'I L U' School of Seven Bells will be returning to Vancouver to perform on Jan. 27th at the Orpheum - opening for Interpol! They've just released the new video for the latest single from their second album called 'Disconnect From Desire' called 'I L U' - and it has a puppet show in it! It's equal parts romantic, beautiful, dark and kinda creepy - just like love - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bernard Sumner + Hot Chip + Hot City!

SummersRadio™ New Video! Bernard Sumner, Hot Chip & Hot City - 'Didn't Know What Love Was' Like Massive Attack, Hot Chip have previously worked with the War Child charity, by contributing to last year's 'Heroes' album, where they covered Joy Division's 'Transmission' track. Now here they are recording with Joy Division/ New Order's Bernard Sumner - however this time around they're hawking sneakers! This is the new video for this unique collaboration between Mr. Sumner, Hot Chip, and London's dj/ remix duo Hot City. This was recorded exclusively for Converse and is the latest in a series - the next one is reported to include Blur's Graham Coxon and the former guitarist of the Coral... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Massive Attack!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Massive Attack - 'Atlas Air' (Tim Goldsworthy Remix) Massive Attack have released a new EP online and on limited edition 12" (available through The Vinyl Factory) called 'Atlas Air'! It contains the album version of 'Atlas Air' from their 'Heligoland' release, along with remixes from Tim Goldsworthy and Jneiro Jarel, and a remix of the previously unreleased track 'Redlight' by Clark. All proceeds from the sale of the EP go to the War Child charity, who help kids in areas of conflict such as Bosnia and Sarajevo. This is the new Tim Goldsworthy Remix... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Crystal Method!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Crystal Method Feat. LMFAO - 'Sine Language' (Richard Vission's Solmatic Remix) The Crystal Method have just released 'Sine Language' as the fourth single from last year's excellent 'Divided By Night' album - in a full package including 7 remixes! (8 if you download from their own website) http://www.thecrystalmethod.com/ You can sample all of them in their entirety below (click on the 'playlist' icon on the bottom left) - I recommend 'Richard Vission's Solmatic Remix' - an acid techno take on this fine track which features hip hop duo LMFAO - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Benny Benassi vs The Rolling Stones

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Benny Benassi vs The Rolling Stones - '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' This was released as a one sided white label promo in 2003 - a mashup of two classics - one rock and one electro... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Benny Benassi!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Benny Benassi - 'House Music' (Autoerotique's Explode The Club Remix) Italy's Benny Benassi released his new single 'House Music' online today - along with two remixes - one from SonicC and this one by Autoerotique. Mr. Benassi is hardly subtle (his last album was called 'King Of Electro'!) - this song is a full on peak hour monster appropriately called the 'Explode The Club Remix' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Kaiser Chiefs! Cut Copy Remix!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Cut Copy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Cut Copy - 'Feel The Love'  The first track on their second album 'In Ghost Colours'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Cut Copy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Cut Copy - 'Take Me Over' Cut Copy's new single 'Take Me Over' premiered on Australia's triple j radio this morning, and they posted this unedited version online just hours ago! It's pretty poppy - and chill - almost Roxy Music-ish. Guitarist Tim Hoey says that it's 'certainly one of the more pop moments on the album'. Their third full length entitled 'Zonoscope' - released on Modular Recordings - is due out in February. I look forward to some remixes on this one... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Special Request! Siouxsie & The Banshees!

SummersRadio™ Special Request! Siouxsie & The Banshees - 'Dear Prudence' So earlier today I 'happened' to see a member of the SummersRadio™ Facebook group and he grunted something to the effect of 'your blog needs Siouxsie & The Banshees!'. I muttered something about how I like posts to be relevant and connect - in multiple ways. But then I thought... part of the inspiration of this FB group/ blog was my stint at Coast 800/1040 back in the day. For those who didn't know and/ or were still wearing diapers - it was Vancouver's first 'modern rock' station. Such a sound has also been described as 'alternative' or 'indie rock' or 'cock rock' - no, scratch that last one - I don't dig that kind of music.

Anyway I hosted the all night show appropriately titled 'The All-Night All-Request Affair' - driven by requests that people would call in. Yes, this is what people used to do before the internets and texting came along! :) So I thought how could I not accept the first blog request I've had?! So as far as relevance goes... by far the biggest music industry announcement this week was the fact that Beatles recordings were available from itunes for the first time ever! After 30 years of legal disputes between Apple Computers and Apple Corp. (owned by the Beatles) they've decided to give peace a chance! There is hope for the Middle East. So it may be unconventional, but that's how I roll - let us celebrate with one of my most favorite Beatles covers - Siouxsie & The Banshee's 'Dear Prudence' - for Donny... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Saint Etienne!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Saint Etienne - 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' (Richard X Extended Remix) Rare is it that a cover version of a classic song done in a completely different style becomes a classic in it's own right - but such was the case in 1991 when Saint Etienne remodeled Neil Young's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart'. This remix from 2009 by Richard X is AMAZING - kudos to Blake B. Siik for bringing this one back to the surface! Richard X actually remixed the entire 'Foxbase Alpha' album (their debut) - and it was released as 'Foxbase Beta' last November - as a limited single disc available only through Rough Trade in the U.K., and as a limited 2cd version through their 'Lovers Unite' fanclub... Enjoy! ♥♥♥

SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Morning Benders!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Morning Benders - 'Excuses' (The Golden Filter Remix) The Morning Benders are an indie rock band from Berkley that are now based in New York. They released their second album entitled 'Big Echo' in March. This song has gained exposure through use in two tv commercials - for Sony '3d' tv's and Reese's peanut butter cups!

The Golden Filter are also from New York and they cite Saint Etienne and Pink Floyd as influences on their sound - clearly I need to hear more of their stuff! I really like this remix - they take the shuffling do-wop of the original and gradually transform it into a gloriously spacey number that weaves in and out of New Order territory... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Video! Klaxons!

SummersRadio™ New 'NSFW' Video! Klaxons - 'Twin Flames' The Klaxons have just released this new video for their latest single and there's quite a buzz building around it. In less than 24 hours it's already been banned from YouTube - citing their policies against nudity and sexuality. It was directed by Saam Farahmand who has also worked with The xx and New Young Pony Club. Lots of comments are being posted about how it's 'disgusting', 'pure filth', even 'the most disturbing video ever'!

Personally I don't see what the big deal is - but then again I'm not offended by pretend sex or special effects! It's not real - there's no actual sex in it... you don't see any genitals - only a slight bit of nudity - but nothing more than you can see on the tele on any given night. I'm not sure if it's a smart move or a desperate one (or both) on the band's behalf. Sales of their new album 'Surfing The Void' pale in comparison to their debut - and the first single 'Echoes' peaked at a mere #55 on the singles chart in the U.K.  So make of this what you will... Enjoy?

Yes it does exist! Here's a new link to cut and paste courtesy of the NME...

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! White Lies!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! White Lies - 'Death' (Chase & Status Remix)

SummersRadio™ New Music! White Lies!

SummersRadio™ New Music! White Lies - 'Bigger Than Us' London's White Lies released perhaps my favorite indie rock debut of 2009 with 'To Lose My Life...' so I was thrilled to find that they just released the video for their new single online today! 'Bigger Than Us' is the first single from their forthcoming second album entitled 'Ritual'. The single is due for release on Jan. 3rd and the album drops on Jan. 17th! The album has ten tracks and was produced by Alan Moulder who's worked with greats such as Depeche Mode, Jesus & Mary Chain, Nine Inch Nails, Yeah Yeah Yeah's and tonnes more - I can't wait... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Love Spit Love!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Love Spit Love - 'Am I Wrong' When the Psychedelic Furs disbanded in 1992, Richard Butler formed Love Spit Love who recorded two albums in the 90's - before they disbanded and the Furs reformed in 2000! This is a great song from their 1994 debut - I love the finality of the line 'Goodbye, lay the blame on luck'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Social Distortion!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Social Distortion - 'Machine Gun Blues' Social Distortion release their new studio album (their seventh) entitled 'Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes' on Jan. 18th! They just released it's first single 'Machine Gun Blues' online today. I've been a fan of the band for two decades - but only today realized how much vocalist Mike Ness sounds like a slightly gruffer Richard Butler (Psychedelic Furs)... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stereolab!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stereolab - 'Silver Sands' (Emperor Machine Mix) Last year Stereolab announced that they were going on an 'indefinite hiatus' but they have just released a new album full of new material that was recorded during the 'Chemical Chords' sessions called 'Not Music'! The album has 13 tracks - three of which are remixes - including this one of 'Silver Sands' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! NYLX Feat. Lula Grelhada!

SummersRadio™ Classic! NYLX Feat. Lula Grelhada - 'Goosebumps' (The Mushroom Head Mix) The booming male vocals in the 'Desolate Cities' track below reminded me of this classic - and highlarious - house tune! Not Chicago house per se though - this time via New York and Lisbon - hence the basis for the name NYLX! NYLX was the name of the collaboration between the Underground Sound Of Lisbon and Danny Tenaglia. This is actually edited - as this full remix by Johnny Vicious is 15:10! I love the banter between Lula and the DJ - and her line 'I think I'm losing my mind' - and how it gets all Age Of Love around 3:30! Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! 2 AM/ FM!

SummersRadio™ New Music! 2 AM/ FM - 'Desolate Cities' Some more new Chicago house for you - this one dipped in acid! 2 AM/ FM is a duo consisting of D'Marc Cantu and James T. Cotton. You may know James under one of his other alias's - Dabrye, SK-1 - or his real name Tadd Mullinix! Tadd's 2000 release 'Winking Makes A Face' was the first album released by the Ghostly International label. He's released three EP's with his former roommate D'Marc under the 2 AM/ FM guise - this is their monstrous new single 'Desolate Cities' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Tevo Howard feat. Tracey Thorn!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Tevo Howard Featuring Tracey Thorn - 'Without Me' Tracey Thorn has had a busy year - she released her third solo album 'Love And It's Opposite' in May, and then a remix EP entitled 'Opposites' in August - and now she's also written lyrics and sings on this previously instrumental track from Chicago's acclaimed underground house producer Tevo Howard... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Brain Machine!

SummersRadio™ Brain Machine - 'Eternal Night' Simian Mobile Disco recently released their first North American mix cd - called 'Is Fixed'. The title comes from their quarterly residency at a New York club night called 'Fixed'. It's available on a 16 track mixed cd - and it's also available for download online in both a mixed, and an unmixed/ mixed combo version. On the mixed version this song is only 2:25 long, but if you go with the unmixed version it's an epic 12:07! It's also originally available on Brain Machine's self titled EP. This is the first track both on Simian Mobile Disco's release and on their EP - 'Eternal Night' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! The xx!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! The xx - 'Crystalised' (Slyde Remix) Well there certainly hasn't been any shortage of great xx remixes lately... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Tangerine Dream!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Tangerine Dream - 'Love On A Real Train' (SymbolOne Remix) This is a new remix of my favorite piece of music of all time - by a duo from Dublin Ireland called SymbolOne - originally from the Risky Business soundtrack... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Green Velvet!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Green Velvet - 'La La Land' (Pleasurekraft 'Sideshow' Remix) I like this remix a bit more than the also recently released but overly hyper 'Crookers Remix' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! The Presets!

SummersRadio™ Classic! The Presets - 'Anywhere' (Still Going Remix) There's no official release date set yet for Sydney's The Presets new third album, but it is expected early next year - and they have announced that they will debut their new live show at the Tasmanian Music festival in February! In the meantime we can bask in the glow of greatness that is 'Anywhere' from their 'Apocalypso' release. I love the weight of the line 'So let yourself down tonight... Anywhere' and I love this remix - very Hardfloor - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein - 'Atmosphere' Gesaffelstein's new EP 'Variations' is so good that I just had to post another track - the hard part was deciding which one... I like them all! I've gone with 'Atmosphere' - it's like Nitzer Ebb, The Presets and Kraftwerk all rolled into one great tune... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein - 'A Lost Era' France's Gesaffelstein has just released a new 5 track EP called 'Variations' - available on both itunes and Beatport. He's signed to Tiga's record label Turbo, and Tiga himself describes him as the 'next big French superstar'! I would have to agree - he's been getting positive reviews and club play support from the likes of Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, Laurent Garnier, The Hacker and The Presets to name just a few! This track alone won me over before I even finished my first listen... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Staygold!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Staygold - 'Video Kick Snare' (Dada Life Remix)

SummersRadio™ Classic! The Avalanches!

SummersRadio™ Classic Video! The Avalanches - 'Frontier Psychiatrist' The Avalanches are from Australia and they released one brilliant album in 2000 called 'Since I Left You' - which contained nearly 3,500 vinyl samples! And then... not so much. Talk of a second album has been going on for more than half the decade. Latest updates suggest that there have (perhaps not surprisingly) been issues with sample clearances - but apparently the album is done and will hopefully see the light of day next year. No doubt it took quite a bit of work to edit this fine video together as well, but it fits perfectly. I love it when the bird and the monkey dance... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! + Free Download! TV Girl!

SummersRadio™ New Music! + Free Legal Download! TV Girl - 'If You Want It' TV Girl are a duo from San Diego that have recently released a self titled 4 song EP. This track samples Todd Rundgren's 70's break up classic 'Hello It's Me' and reminds me of other sample heavy yet cheerful sounding tracks from the Avalanches debut album. If this song is to your liking you can download their 4 track EP for free through their Bandcamp site here: http://tvgirl.bandcamp.com/  Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Deadmau5!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Deadmau5 - 'Sofi Leeds A Ladder' Deadmau5's new album '4x4=12' isn't out until December 7th but it already features several club hits - 'I Said' with Chris Lake, 'Animal Rights' with Wolfgang Gartner and 'Some Chords' - this is his newest single called 'Sofi Needs A Ladder' featuring Sophia Toufa on vocals - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Remembrance Day

SummersRadio™ Remembrance Day - Deadmau5 & Kaskade - 'I Remember' Toronto's Deadmau5 has been doing very well for himself lately - on Oct. 27th DJ Magazine listed him at #4 on their annual Top 100 DJ Poll - up two spots from last year! This track - a collaboration with Kaskade - is one of three tracks that hit number 1 on the US Dance airplay charts, making him the only Canadian artist to accomplish this! Earlier this year he performed at the Winter Olympics held in our beautiful city and in March he was nominated for 4 International Dance Music Awards and won three - and in June at the Beatport Music Awards he won awards for Best Electro House Artist, Best Progressive House Artist and the "most influential, relevant and forward-thinking person in electronic music over the past 12 months" award! So nice work Joel! His third studio album entitled '4x4=12' is due for release in December. This track appears on his 'Random Album Title' release... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Pet Shop Boys!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Pet Shop Boys - 'West End Girls' (Dance Mix) Perhaps my expectations were too high for a new remix of this song - perhaps not. A bit of history...

'West End Girls' had a lengthy shelf life - nearly 3 years! It was released twice - first in April 1984 produced by Bobby Orlando, becoming a minor club hit. Then in 1985 they signed with EMI and re-recorded the song with producer Stephen Hague for their debut album 'Please' and re-released it. It reached number 1 in the U.K. later that year, and then it went on to hit number 1 in the U.S. in the spring of 1986 and stayed on the chart for 20 weeks. The lyrics were inspired by T.S. Elliot's poem 'The Waste Land' and the song used what was then new sampling technology with the E-mu Emulator keyboard.

This is the definitive remix - the 'Dance Mix' which came out on 12" the second time around in 1985. The equally memorable video - shot around London - was nominated for the Best New Artist Video at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards, but lost out to A-ha's groundbreaking animated video for 'Take On Me'. I always remember those mannequin children and the sound of the street at the beginning - it sets the mood instantly. (this HQ video has been re-edited to fit this extended version)

The song still sounds as sleek and modern as it did over 25 years ago - so yeah it would be pretty tough to top this mix - it's pretty much perfect! I love the sound of the drumming and the cowbell - when I play it, I slow it way down - stoner house™ style - to make it even more gallopy (new word!) and hypnotic! I love this song/ remix... can you tell? :) Enjoy...

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Pet Shop Boys!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Pet Shop Boys - 'West End Girls' (Grum Chill Out Mix) Well it's not everyday that a classic gets remixed - at least one that is official and authorized by the band. So I was filled with anticipation when I heard that 'West End Girls' was going to be remixed and included on the new Pet Shop Boys single 'Together' (see post on Nov. 1st). However I must say that I was rather disappointed with the regular Grum remix - he basically just sped it up a bit - which I think takes away from the feel of the original. Anyway I've found this other stripped down mix which at least is a bit different... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Hardfloor!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Hardfloor - 'Silver Submarine'/ 'F.U.B.A.R.' (Dj Pierre's AfroAcid Remix/ album versions) Germany's techno pioneers Hardfloor have just released their new ten track album entitled 'Two Guys Three Boxes'! 'Silver Submarine' is their new 12" single and this video features equal parts of the three tracks from it - the DJ Pierre AfroAcid Remix, as well as the album version, and another album track called 'F.U.B.A.R.'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Paperfangs!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Paperfangs - 'Oh I Wandered' So I really dig the first Paperfangs song and video posted below - and yet somehow I love this song even more! I like the lines 'We are the shoeless the everlasting We are the charmers afraid of asking'. Enjoy...

SummersRadio™ New Music! Paperfangs!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Paperfangs - 'Books' Finland's Paperfangs reveal a bit about themselves: "We are Paperfangs, a collective of three daydreamers scattered across Finland. A brother, a sister and a friend. We find our inspiration in old movies, late-night biking trips, second-hand shops, picnics and love." This is their first video... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Human League!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Human League - 'The Things That Dreams Are Made Of' (Ilya Santana Dub Mix) Shit Robots and LCD Soundsystem are but two of countless artists that have no doubt been influenced by the Human League! This is a nice spacey remix of the classic opener from 'Dare' that came out in 2007 on the Hooj Choons label, that also featured remixes from Kissy Sell Out and Tiga... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Shit Robot!

SummersRadio™ New Music! + New Video! Shit Robot - 'Take 'Em Up' Shit Robot is Markus Lambkin - an Irish musician and dj. He released his cleverly titled debut album 'From The Cradle To The Rave' in September on DFA Records. Vocals on this track are performed by Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem - and it features lyrics co-written with her and James Murphy! I wish Nancy sang more on LCD albums - but for now this is one great tune - a bit like the Human League at their best meets LCD... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Underworld!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Underworld - 'Bird 1' (Hugh XDupe Remix) Beatport has a contest on to remix Underworld's new single 'Bird 1'! This remix slays all the other entries so far - dark and hypnotic like their brilliant 'dubnobasswithmyheadman' period... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Munk!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Monk feat. Clara Cometti - 'Violent Love' This song is the first track from Munk's new 5 song EP called 'Mondo Vagabondo'. The video tells the story of a dj's girlfriend who's tired of playing second fiddle to his music - and loses it! I wonder how often this kind of thing happens? As a dj have you ever been attacked by a disgruntled girlfriend or boyfriend - or have you been on the other end having the tantrum? Or have you just thought about doing it a 100 times? :) Enjoy...!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Onno!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Onno - 'Hit Me' (Thomas Schumacher Remix) I heard a lot of great tunes at Signal at the Lotus last night - however this driving funky track stood above the rest - from Denmark's Onno. This song is from his new 'Ghetto Talk' EP and is available for purchase through itunes and Beatport... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Bonus Remix! Metric!

SummersRadio™ 2 For 1 Remix Sunday! Metric - 'Twilight Galaxy' (Matomik Remix) This is an interesting take on the song - Matomik says he was going for 'a more soft emotional feel' on this remix - and it works! The added piano makes it sound more like a ballad - but not in a cheesy way - in a more romantic sincere way I think. And as a bonus the remixer is super cute! :) Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Metric!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Metric - 'Twilight Galaxy' (Dave LeBon Remix) I must say that I think that artists having remix contests is one of the best new things to happen to the music scene in some time. Everybody wins - regardless of who wins! Remixers get a chance to show their skills - the band gets all kinds of new perspectives on their songs - often from a full spectrum of sub-genres. Then when they release a collection of them we get a chance to buy the top quality chosen winners, and then on top of that there's all kinds of other remixes out there that you can download.

And so it is with Metric and their current contest to remix tracks from their 'Fantasies' album. There's a tonne of mixes out there so there's a lot to wade through to find the most postworthy ones. I love Metric so it's a challenge not to post one everyday - this is only my third in as many weeks! So far I've gone with Krusha's remix of 'Help I'm Alive' and the awesome DJ JMP remix of 'Stadium Love'. There's another mix of 'Twilight Galaxy' currently making the rounds on the big blogs by The Gripp, but I like this one more. This is the Dave LeBon Remix - quite suitable for a laid back semi-sunny Sunday afternoon! 'I'm higher than high Lower than deep'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Joy Division! Remixed!

SummersRadio™ Joy Division - 'Atmosphere' (iamxl remix)

SummersRadio™ New Remix! + Free Download! Salt 'n Pepa!/ iamxl!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! + Free Download! Salt 'n Pepa - 'Push It' (iamxl remix) 'Push It' originated as the b-side to Salt 'n Pepa's single 'Tramp' and was called 'I Like It When Justin Pushes It In Me'! It was then remixed by San Francisco dj and producer Cameron Paul, renamed and later added to Salt 'n Pepa's debut 'Hot, Cool & Vicious' in 1987. The album went platinum and made Salt 'n Pepa the first female rap act (group or solo) to ever do so. iamxl is Vancouver dj and producer Jon Hamlin who has remixed artists as diverse as John Lennon, Joy Division, Deadmau5 and the Bloody Beatroots. This is his latest remix - an awesome remix of a club and hip hop classic... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Fools Gold - 'Nadine' (Acid Girls The Vibes Are Free Bromix) Fools Gold are a collective that mix together Western sounds with African rhythms. Like Acid Girls they are from L.A. and both are signed to the IAMSOUND record label. This is the Acid Girls remix of their song 'Nadine' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Acid Girls!

SummersRadio™ Acid Girls - 'The Numbers Song' The Acid Girls are in fact not girls at all - they are a dj duo and production team - Gregory Bowler and Jamie McNiel, who are based in L.A. They will be in town this Saturday night at Signal at the Lotus along with residents Darren Woodhead and Joseph Martin... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Caribou!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Caribou - 'Bowls' (Holden Remix) Daniel Snaith aka Caribou release their new remix album this week - appropriately titled 'Swim Remixes'. It's available physically as an 11 track cd with newly pressed editions of his 'Swim' cd and the lp will now come with a code to download both the regular and remixed versions of 'Swim'. It's also available online as a download with 4 extra tracks! This is the rather hypnotic James Holden remix of 'Bowls' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Wolf Parade!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Wolf Parade - 'Semi-Precious Stone' When Wolf Parade were working on their 'Expo 86' album there was talk that it may end up being a double album - but when it was released it June it was just a single disc. However since there were lots of songs left from the sessions and the band is now on tour they've decided to release two brand new songs online! This one is somewhat Bowie-esque... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Nicole Atkins & The Sea

SummersRadio™ Nicole Atkins & The Sea - 'Neptune City' Nicole Atkins was born in Neptune, New Jersey overlooking the Shark River - which she has cited as a major inspiration for her music - particularly the imagery in this song, the title track from her full length debut 'Neptune City'. I love the dreamlike quality of this video... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! + Free Download! Nicole Atkins!

SummersRadio™ New Music! + Free Legal Download! Nicole Atkins - 'Vultures' Nicole Atkins is scheduled to release her second full length album entitled 'Mondo Amore' in January. 'Vultures' is the first song to be released - and it's a bit darker sounding than anything off of her full length debut 'Neptune City'. Perhaps this is not surprising considering that last spring she replaced her entire backing band 'The Sea' and renamed them 'The Black Sea'! If the song is to your liking you can download a copy for free from her official website here: http://www.nicoleatkins.com/  Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rarity! Metric!

SummersRadio™ Rarity! Metric - 'It's A Sin' One of my current favorite bands covers a song by one of my all time favorite artists - and I like it... go figure!! This is currently unreleased and was performed as part of a live cover session for the European music streaming company Spotify. Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Pet Shop Boys!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Pet Shop Boys - 'Together' (Ultimate Mix) Today in the U.K. Pet Shop Boys release their latest best of compilation (their third) called 'Ultimate'! It will be released here on both a single and double disc (cd+dvd) deluxe edition on Nov. 9th - and on itunes tomorrow (single disc only)! EMI suggested the release to celebrate the fact that it's been 25 years since the release of their first hit 'West End Girls'. The single disc contains 18 hits in chronological order plus this new track 'Together'. The deluxe edition includes a second dvd disc with 48 (!) tracks - including 27 television clips (many rare and previously unreleased) from Top Of The Pops and numerous other programs - as well as their complete 21 track performance from Glastonbury 2010, which the Daily Telegraph described as "One of the most spectacular Glastonbury moments ever"! I've seen them live twice and I must say that they certainly know how to put on a show!

'Together' will also be released as a two part physical single on November 29th. The first part will feature four tracks - the 'Ultimate Mix' and 'Extended Mix' of 'Together', 'Glad All Over' - a cover of the early 60's hit from The Dave Clark Five, which has become a victory anthem for the football club in Blackpool - which is also Chris Lowe's hometown. It also contains 'I Cried For Us' - a song from the late Kate McGarrigle (Rufus Wainwright's Mum) - which Neil sang in June at her tribute concert in London. The second single will contain a radio edit of 'Together' and a new 'Grum Mix' of 'West End Girls'!

So there you have it - all the latest PSB news - here's the new single... Enjoy!
