SummersRadio™ Concert News + New Video! Digitalism - '2 Hearts' Just announced today - Digitalism are coming back to Vancouver on Tuesday August 2nd! The 'I Love You Dude' album release tour will be stopping at Gossip Nightclub - and it's a live performance - not just a dj set! Their new album 'I Love You Dude' is released on June 20th and they've just released the new official video for the latest single '2 Hearts'. It features the duo battling some creatures that look like human asparagus - I've always known that vegetables were evil... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Depeche Mode!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Depeche Mode - 'In Chains' (Alan Wilder Remix) While I'm still anxiously wating to hear the new 2011 remix of 'A Question Of Time', it's still under wraps - but another new remix from the forthcoming album 'Remixes 2: 81-11' has shown up on the interweb. Like the 'Behind The Wheel' remix posted below - this new 2011 remix of 'In Chains' is by a former member of the band! Alan Wilder announced his departure from Depeche Mode on his birthday - June 1st 1995. Since then he has concentrated on his other band Recoil, in addition to doing production and remix work. 'In Chains' is the opening track on the bands last studio album 'Sounds Of The Universe' which was released in 2009 - this is the 'Alan Wilder Remix'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Rare Remix! Depeche Mode!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Depeche Mode - 'Behind The Wheel' (Vince Clarke Remix) Another one of the new 2011 Depeche Mode remixes has surfaced online - hoo-ray! Depeche Mode release their new remix compilation on June 6th called 'Remixes 2: 81-11' - with the triple cd set containing a total of 37 remixes - and 13 of them are brand new for 2011! I've previously featured the new remixes from Alex Metric, Eric Prydz and Royksopp - and today we have a new remix by former band member Vince Clarke! In fact this is the first time in 30 years that Clarke has worked with his former band mates - this is his new remix of 'Behind The Wheel'... Enjoy!

Rare Remix! Depeche Mode - 'Behind The Wheel/ Route 66 (Megamix)' (Remixed by Ivan Ivan) The original b-side for the 'Behind The Wheel' single was a cover of 'Route 66' which was written by Bobby Troup and first became a hit for Nat King Cole in the 1940's! This remix is rare - depending on where you live - as it was only released in the U.S. in 1987. This is a mashup of 'Behind The Wheel' and 'Route 66' by Ivan Ivan... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Jahcoozi - 'Close To Me' (Milanese Remix) Jahcoozi are a trio based in Berlin consisting of 'two beat-freak producers/multi-instrumentalists' Teuton Robot Koch and Tel-Aviv born Oren Gerlitz - and London-born, Sri Lankan songwriter and vocalist Sasha Perera. It contains 15 remixes including one of their cover of The Cure's 1985 classic 'Close To Me' from their album 'The Head On The Door'. This is the 'Milanese Remix' of 'Close To Me'... SummersRadio™ New Music! Rone!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Rone - 'Nakt' Erwan Castex aka Rone is an artist/ producer/ filmmaker from Paris. He's just released a new EP on the InFiné Music label called 'So So So'. It features three songs including this track called 'Nakt' - which I think would make for the perfect soundtrack to a really cool lucid dream. If we were able to record our dreams (and be able to watch them later to learn from them - how amazing would that be?) this song would fit nicely with a montage of scenes of one flying without wings - or perhaps playing as you travel through time...
Enjoy!

'Nakt' is my favorite song on the EP, but all 3 songs are good - so here's another! This is the title track 'So So So'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + 3 Classics! Gus Gus!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gus Gus - 'Over' Iceland's Gus Gus have just released their new album called 'Arabian Horse'! It's the eighth studio album from the Reykjavik collective which currently consists of four core members. It's released on the German Kompakt label and is available on cd and download this week - and it will also be available on vinyl next week. This is the fourth track on the cd called 'Over'... Enjoy!

GusGus - Over by Borella

Gus Gus have been releasing quality music (and video's) since they formed in 1995 - so in celebration of the new album I thought I'd post a few classics as well. 'David' was one of the singles from their 2002 album (their fifth) called 'Attention' which was released on the Underwater Records label - which was formed by Darren Emmerson after leaving Underworld in 2000. 'I still have last night in my body' is a great line - that feeling after a night out when you're still buzzed - wishing the good times could go on! This is 'Darren Emmerson's Underwater Remix' of 'David'... Enjoy!

Gus Gus released their third album called 'This Is Normal' in 1999 on the 4A.D. Records label. 'Starlovers' features an excellently creepy video - singer Stephan Stephensen portrays a cult leader - I suppose being in a cult wouldn't be all bad if you got to eat cake and dance to cool music like this - Enjoy!

Gus Gus released their first self titled album independently in 1995 and then in 1997 they were signed to 4A.D. and released 'Polydistortion' which contained four of the same songs from the independent release, as well as seven new tracks - plus a four track bonus EP of remixes. This is another one of their great videos - this is 'Polyesterday' - who's remix was called 'Polydistortion' - and this video was dubbed 'Polymovie'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Art Brut!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Art Brut - 'Lost Weekend' Art Brut have just released their new album called 'Brilliant! Tragic!' today! It's their fourth album - recorded in Salem Oregon - and their second in a row to be produced by the legendary Pixies frontman Frank Black. Lead vocalist Eddie Argos sings a bit differently on this one - with the words more softly spoken than sung - and ends up sounding a bit like Jarvis Cocker in the process. This is the first single from the album called 'Lost Weekend'... Enjoy!

Art Brut double shot! No doubt we've all experienced a lost weekend or two - or even hundreds! Clearly this isn't the band's first one either - as the first single from their last album 'Art Brut vs. Satan' was about a wild bender as well - this is 'Alcoholics Unanimous'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Hertz!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Hertz - 'Funkster EP' (Original Mix & Tomcraft Remix) Swedish duo Hertz have been releasing a lot of great tracks lately - and this one may even top them all so far for me... I've been listening to this song over and over! The 'Funkster EP' ('EP' appears to actually be part of the song name) contains two mixes of the title track. First we have the mix that has me already mentally reserving it spot on my Best Of 2011 list - which is a good 6 months away at least. Regardless I must declare my love for this track ♥! This is the 'Original Mix'... Enjoy!!

Here's the 'Tomcraft Remix'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Aeroplane!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Aeroplane - 'My Enemy' (Green Velvet & Rex The Dog Remixes) So how was the end of the world for you? Mine was pretty good - aside from surviving I went to an amazing house warming party called 'Welcome To Wonderland' that featured a live singer, mushroom tea, a massive roof deck - and a bouncy castle! I guess the religous fanatics were wrong - who knew?!

Aeroplane is the Belgium based solo project (formerly a duo) of Vito De Luca. He released his debut album cheekily titled 'We Can't Fly' last fall on the Eskimo Recordings label. 'My Enemy' is the latest single (the fourth) released from the album and it's officially released tomorrow with two brand new remixes! They're both great so rather than choose one I thought I'd post both! First up we have London's Jake Williams aka Rex The Dog's remix... Enjoy!

And here we have a remix from Chicago's Curtis Alan Jones aka Green Velvet - this is the 'Green Velvet "Love My Enemy" Remix'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ The End of The World!

There will be no post today due to the world ending.             Sorry for any inconvenience.

p.s. if for some reason the world does not end I will post something after midnight

SummersRadio™ New Order! Who Did They Sample?

SummersRadio™ New Order! Who Did They Sample? New Order - 'Blue Monday' After posting the rare 'Blue Monday' remix below I figured it would be the perfect time to tell you about the awesome website called 'WhoSampled'! Their official address is whosampled.com http://www.whosampled.com/ and their tag line is 'Exploring and discussing the DNA of music'. Here's some info from their site on what it's all about if you're not already familiar with them:

'We're building the ultimate database of sampled music, remixes and cover songs. Dig deeper into music by discovering direct links among over 95,000 songs and 37,000 artists, from Hip-Hop and R&B via Electronic Music through to Rock, Pop, Funk, Soul, Jazz and beyond. Watch the videos, contribute new content, discuss and vote.'

Basically you can type in the name of any artist or song and it will list every artist that they've sampled and every artist who's sampled them. Of course not everything is in there yet, but it's constantly growing. Not only do they post the audio for the original song and the source of the sample - they also indicate at exactly what point in each song the sample occurs!

The interesting thing about New Order's 'Blue Monday' is that people generally believe it to be entirely a New Order composition - while they did write it - it features several obvious influences and samples from other songs. So here's few of the tracks that provided some of the elements that helped mold what became the club anthem we know as 'Blue Monday'...

The keyboard bit on the intro and extro was sampled from the Kraftwerk song 'Uranium' from their album 'Radio-Activity' which was released in 1975... Enjoy!

The kick drum beat was borrowed from Donna Summer's track 'Our Love' from her 'Bad Girls' album which was written and produced by Summer and Giorgio Moroder and from her 1979 album 'Bad Girls'. The kick drum sample appears 1:33 in - and even before that the keyboards sound a lot like another New Order track - 'Temptation' that was released as a single just prior to 'Blue Monday' - Enjoy!

The bassline was styled from Sylvester's 1978 disco classic 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)'...

And the overall arrangement of the song came from a song called 'Dirty Talk' by the Italian post-disco group Klein + M.B.O...

So although 'Blue Monday' was a groundbreaking record it was also influenced by and a fusion of many different sounds that came before it - mixing disco, new wave, synthpop and New York club music - to create a new club anthem. Just for kicks here's the excellent remix from Hardloor to remind us of how great all these influences sound stitched together... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! New Order!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! New Order - 'Blue Monday' (Andrea Remix) Few club songs are as legendary and influential as New Order's 'Blue Monday'. It was first released as a 12 inch single in March of 1983 on the Factory Records label. It's been re-released several times - most notably in 1988 and 1995 - and remixed countless times! I was much more impressed with the '95 remixes over the '88 ones - especially with the Hardfloor remix. What was really surprising was when I first listened to this 'Andrea Remix' - New Order... doing reggae?!? It's a bit of a reggae/ ambient hybrid actually, and it works amazingly well. This was originally the fourth track on the 'Blue Monday '95' cd single - this is the 'Andrea Remix'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! New Order!

SummersRadio™ New Music! New Order - 'Hellbent' Ian Curtis - the vocalist for Joy Division - died 31 years ago today. As it was a suicide (hanging) it's certainly not something that one generally celebrates - however today Rhino Records in the U.K. has announced that they're releasing a new Joy Division/ New Order compilation! It's called 'Total: From Joy Division To New Order' and it's the first compilation to feature some of the best of both bands together!

The cover features artwork by Peter Saville - Factory Records legendary former art director...

It's released on June 6th and it will feature 18 tracks - just 5 from Joy Division and 13 from New Order. The best part is that the final track is a previously unrleased New Order song called 'Hellbent'! It's not known yet what year this tune was recorded but it definitely sounds like it was from the 2000's. Here's the full tracklisting for the new compilation:

The album is called 'Gravity The Seducer' and while there's no word yet on whether or not this is an official single (my guess is no - as it's pretty mellow and not quite as hooky as most of their singles generally are) - the first new unedited track from the album has just surfaced online today! This is 'White Elephant'... Enjoy!

(update: it IS the first single and it's available on itunes as of today - Tues. 17th!)

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Men Without Hats!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Men Without Hats - 'Pop Goes The World' (Extended Dance Mix) 'Pop Goes The World' was the title track from the band's third album which was released in 1987. It reached the top 20 in the U.S., # 2 here in Canada - and it hit number one in Austria and Sweden!

The show tonight was great - when they performed 'The Safety Dance' they actually did the 12 inch version posted below and afterwards singer Ivan Doroschuk signed my 12 inch and my 'Pop Goes The World' cd! This is the 'Extended Dance Mix' from the original 12 inch single - the tempo is way slower on the remixes - so it's a bit trippy... Enjoy!

This is the original 'Extended Club Mix' from the North American 12" single (a different remix was released in the U.K.). The video was shot in the village of West Kington, which is near Bath in southwest England. Few video's are as fun as this one - and a fan has re-edited the original clip to fit this extended version... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Afrojack - 'Pop On Acid' Nick Van De Wall aka Afrojack was born and raised in Spijkenisse, the Netherlands. He's 23 years old and he debuted at number 19 on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJ's of 2010 poll - the highest new entry on the list - which is based on public voting. SummersRadio™ New Remix vs Classic Remix! Scott Grooves!

SummersRadio™ New Remix vs Classic Remix! Scott Grooves feat. Parliament Funkadelic - 'Mothership Reconnection' (Claude VonStroke Energy Pattern Remix)/ (Daft Punk Remix) Today we have a battle - a brand new remix versus a classic 12 year old remix! For myself declaring the winner was easy - but I'll post both so you can decide for yourself!

Soma Quality Recordings was started in 1991 by Scottish duo Slam. This year as part of their 20th anniversary celebration they're releasing a series of singles containing remixes of songs from their extensive catalogue.

'Mothership Reconnection' was first released in 1999 - featuring remixes from several artists including Funk D'Void, Slam and Daft Punk. This new release - which is out digitally now, and on vinyl May 16th - features a brand new remix by Barclay Crenshaw aka Claude VonStroke. It also features the original Daft Punk remix from 1999. So in this corner we have the new 'Claude VonStroke Energy Pattern Remix'... Enjoy!

And in this corner we have the b-side if you will - one of the original remixes from 1999 - by Daft Punk! I'm biased of course - as this is one of my ALL TIME favorite remixes - in the history of humans! And it still sounds AMAZING twelve years on... Enjoy!

'Losing My Patience' features vocals from Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip! First up we have the new video... Enjoy!

And since the song features Alexis Taylor on vocals, I suppose it wasn't too difficult to get Hot Chip to do a remix of the song as well... Enjoy!
