'Omakase' is a Japanese phrase that translates to 'I'll leave it to you' or to entrust - it's generally used in Japanese restaurants to leave the selection up to the chef. Smith offers us a feast of 14 tracks - twelve originals plus two remixes. Bedrock Records has just released their latest compilation called 'Bedrock 14'! 'Bedrock 14' is naturally the fourteenth artist compilation from the label started by Nick Muir and John Digweed fourteen years ago. The compilation compiled by Digweed features 21 solid exclusive unmixed tracks from the label's favorite artists and some of their latest signings, that proves that the label is still at the top of their game. It's available on both itunes and Beatport (much cheaper on itunes).

                    

I've chosen my two initial favorite tracks - first up is Marco Bailey's 'Whispering Leaves' - the hypnotic and melodic tenth track on the compilation. It's that time of here year in Vancouver - the air is notably colder - leaves are everywhere. You can hear them whispering - saying terrible things... Enjoy!



Christian Smith's 'The Judgement' is the sixth track from 'Bedrock 14' and it features a steady buildup that will lure you into the dance before you know it... Enjoy!

Sven Vath founded the German techno/ house label in 2000 and each year they release a new compilation featuring exclusive tracks - this is the twelfth release in the series which began with 'A' in 2000.

Christian Smith has just released his new EP called 'NYC' today! Well it appears that consuming the recommended 8 cups of gravy per day (among other things) left me feeling a bit logy over the weekend, so I didn't post for a couple days - but I'm ready to get back on track now! So we move from one Christian to another - we started off the Easter weekend on Friday with Christian Burkhardt's latest - and today we have São Paulo based Christian Smith :)

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Underworld - 'Dark And Long' (Christian Smith Tronic Treatment Remix) Well how wonderful it is to find that one of my all time favorite club tunes has just been remixed! Underworld have just released 'Dark And Long' featuring brand new mixes from Christian Smith this week! There are two remixes - the 'Christian Smith Tronic Treatment Remix' and the 'Christian Smith Hypnotica Dub' - and the single is released on Stockholm's Tronic label.

'Dark And Long' first appeared as the opening track on Underworld's epic 'dubnobasswithmyheadman' album in 1993. It was first released as a single in 1994 in the U.K. although surprisingly it peaked at only #57 on the singles chart. It was released on three separate 12" singles and two cd singles in the U.K. featuring a total of five remixes and a couple of edits.

The song later reached a much wider audience  when it was featured prominently in the 1996 film 'Trainspotting'. The 'Dark Train' mix is played as Ewan McGregor's character Mark is going through heroin withdrawal - the scene where the baby is crawling on the ceiling and turns it's head around a full 360 degrees like in The Exorcist!

So it's hard to top a classic but Christian Smith punches it up just enough to sound updated without ruining any of the perfect bits - this is the 'Christian Smith Tronic Treatment Mix' of Underworld's 'Dark And Long'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bart Skils!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bart Skils - 'Dust' Bart Schils aka Bart Skils is a Dutch dj/ producer/ promoter from Amsterdam. He's just released a new two track EP called 'Dust/ Santiago' on Christian Smith's Tronic label today! Now you may recognize the vocal sample used in 'Dust' - although it sounds like a possibly crazy person like Nick Nolte or even Jack Nicholson from some movie - it's actually from another song called 'So Get Up' by Portuguese duo Underground Sound Of Lisbon (who are also responsible for another underground classic from NYLX that I posted last November http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/11/summersradio-classic-nylx-feat-lula.html).

'So Get Up' features lyrics by Korvorwong aka Darin Pappas - who is now more commonly known as artist/ musician Ithaka. The song was first released in 1993 as a b-side and then properly as an a-side single in 1994. I will post the original as well as it deserves props but you may also recognize the sample from other sources - including as the intro for Miss Kittin's 'Radio Caroline Vol. 1' mix cd in 2003, and sampled in Stretch & Vern's 1997 hit 'Get Up! Go Insane!'. It's also been sampled in several other songs - as an acapella version was included on the 1994 single.

Although the sample may be familiar, Bart Skils track 'Dust' sounds fresh for 2011 due to the wicked groove he's created to accompany it... Enjoy!

                   



The Underground Sound Of Lisbon was a collaboration between Rui da Silva aka Doctor J and DJ Vibe. A tenth anniversary edition of 'So Get Up' was released in 2004 featuring 8 mixes - including remixes by Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez, Eric Kupper and others. I still like the acid house feel of the original version - here's the 'Original Mix' of 'So Get Up' from the Underground Sound Of Lisbon featuring the spoken word lyrics of (and written by) Ithaka...
