SummersRadio™ New Music! Sigur Rós!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Sigur Rós - 'Ekki Múkk'

Iceland's Sigur Rós have just released a new song online called 'Ekki Múkk'! The song is the first single and video from their forthcoming new studio album (their sixth) called 'Valtari'. 'Valtari' will feature eight new songs and is set for release on May 28th - here's the album cover art and full tracklisting with all the accents in place :)

08 Fjögur Píanó

The album's title 'Valtari' means 'Steamroller' - in an interview with Q Magazine singer Jónsi Birgisson says that "the music kind of just rolls over you" (but) "in a good way." If there's such a thing as an afterlife I would imagine that the music playing upon one's arrival would sound something like this - this is 'Ekki Múkk'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Music News! Bjork!

SummersRadio™ Music News! Bjork! Well yesterday we featured a teaser video from Grandaddy and today we have not one, but two teaser video's from Iceland's Bjork! Bjork's seventh studio album is called 'Biophilia' and is going to be the world's first 'app album' - a collaboration with Apple that will be released via 10 iPad apps! Thus far there is no confirmed date for a physical release of the album - although the first single 'Crystalline' is schedule for release on June 30th.

Bjork will be performing songs from the album at a series of concerts in Manchester between June 22nd and July 16th. The performances will include special instruments designed specifically for the shows, including "custom-built digitally controlled pipe organs, a gamelan-celeste hybrid and a 30-foot pendulum that harnesses the planet's gravitational pull to create musical patterns." Not your run of the mill rock show then - but then Bjork has never settled for ordinary.

This first teaser video is entitled 'Road To Crystalline' and it features Bjork driving down the highway listening to a portion of the first single 'Crystalline'... Enjoy!

This second teaser video was released online today just a few hours ago and is called 'Gameleste' - and it features the specially designed gameland-celeste hybrid. A gameland is a set of instruments built together as one unit that usually features xylophones, flutes, gongs and strings - and a celeste is somewhat similar to a piano. This is 'Gameleste'... Enjoy!

It looks like these instruments will be as exciting to watch on stage as Bjork herself! I will of course post full songs when they become available - and that's enough 'teasing' for this week - my next post will contain only a full song (or songs) - Cheers!

SummersRadio™ New Music + 3 Classics! Gus Gus!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gus Gus - 'Over' Iceland's Gus Gus have just released their new album called 'Arabian Horse'! It's the eighth studio album from the Reykjavik collective which currently consists of four core members. It's released on the German Kompakt label and is available on cd and download this week - and it will also be available on vinyl next week. This is the fourth track on the cd called 'Over'... Enjoy!

GusGus - Over by Borella

Gus Gus have been releasing quality music (and video's) since they formed in 1995 - so in celebration of the new album I thought I'd post a few classics as well. 'David' was one of the singles from their 2002 album (their fifth) called 'Attention' which was released on the Underwater Records label - which was formed by Darren Emmerson after leaving Underworld in 2000. 'I still have last night in my body' is a great line - that feeling after a night out when you're still buzzed - wishing the good times could go on! This is 'Darren Emmerson's Underwater Remix' of 'David'... Enjoy!

Gus Gus released their third album called 'This Is Normal' in 1999 on the 4A.D. Records label. 'Starlovers' features an excellently creepy video - singer Stephan Stephensen portrays a cult leader - I suppose being in a cult wouldn't be all bad if you got to eat cake and dance to cool music like this - Enjoy!

Gus Gus released their first self titled album independently in 1995 and then in 1997 they were signed to 4A.D. and released 'Polydistortion' which contained four of the same songs from the independent release, as well as seven new tracks - plus a four track bonus EP of remixes. This is another one of their great videos - this is 'Polyesterday' - who's remix was called 'Polydistortion' - and this video was dubbed 'Polymovie'... Enjoy!
