SummersRadio™ New Music! Kate Simko & Anthony Collins!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Kate Simko & Anthony Collins - 'Sit Back' (featuring Brothers Vibe)/ 'Run & Tell'

Chicago's Kate Simko and France's Anthony Collins have just released a new EP called 'Sit Back' this week! It's released on Israel's Supplemental Facts Records label which is managed by Guy Gerber, and features two very solid house tracks - 'Run & Tell' - and the title track which features Brothers Vibe - a duo from New Jersey.

The 'Sit Back EP' is available exclusively on Beatport - first up we have the title track. The song has some similar percussion (and vibes) to one of my all time favorite club tunes - Alcatraz's 1996 club classic 'Give Me Luv'... Enjoy!

And this is 'Run & Tell'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Summer Camp!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Summer Camp - 'Better Off Without You' Summer Camp are a new duo - Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey - from London. Last fall they released their debut six song EP called 'Young' on the Moshi Moshi Records label. They're currently working on their full length debut album - in fact they're actually seeking pledges to help finish it! That may sound a bit desperate at first, but it's actually a pretty cool idea.

You 'pledge' by choosing from about 60 band/ fan related offers! Each one has a corresponding price - from a download copy of the new album plus 10 pledger-only updates for £8 - to a signed t-shirt for £20 - to the band writing a song about you for £250! (Only 2 left!) Regardless of what you pledge you will be entitled to an advance download of the full album (and a copy of the cd when they're made) plus other upcoming exclusives - not to mention the fuzzy feeling you'd get inside for helping a new band make their first official album! If this song is any indication I doubt they'll be asking for funding when it comes time to make album number two - they could make it quite big in indie (and possibly even pop) circles!

If you dig their new single you can find out more about donating and other information about the band here: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/summercamp

This is the first single from the forthcoming album called 'Better Off Without You' - which tells the tale of a friend who you just can't handle anymore. I had one like this - who would call all the time to tell me about his problems in great detail - so I could comfort him - but he'd never ask anything about my life. I ended up just feeling like a psychiatrist - without the big pay cheque! The song reminds me a titch of some of Blondie's recordings - like a more pop/ less guitar version of 'Hanging On The Telephone'. This is 'Better Of Without You'... Enjoy!

And just for kicks here's Blondie's 'Hanging On The Telephone' from their 1978 release 'Parallel Lines'. The two songs aren't the same by any means - they just have a similar feel... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Girls!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Girls - 'Vomit' It's time for some girl on girl action! From Death In Vegas's' track 'Girls' to Girls - the indie rock band from San Francisco! Girls are set to release their second full length album called 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost' on September 13th, and they've just released the first song from it called 'Vomit' as a free download!

I've heard this track being compared to Spiritualized - which certainly got my attention - and it is similar is some ways... from the meek yearning romantic vocals of lead singer Christopher Owens, to the epic gospel style backup vocals - plus the organ - but the guitars sound much more American. If 'Vomit' is to your liking (!) you can download the song for free from the band's Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/GIRLSsf?sk=app_151079988301527#!/GIRLSsf?sk=app_113345305387225

SummersRadio™ Classics! Death In Vegas!

SummersRadio™ Classics! Death In Vegas - 'Girls'/ 'Help Yourself' The new Death In Vegas song 'Your Loft My Acid' that I posted yesterday got me thinking of some of their earlier material - 'Scorpio Rising' was in fact my favorite album of 2002! So I thought I'd post a couple tracks from it in case you haven't heard them in a while - or ever!

'Girls' is the opening track on the album and was featured in the movie (and soundtrack to) 'Lost In Translation'. This is a fan made video that features footage from various 1960's drug awareness films... Enjoy!

'Help Yourself' is the majestic closing track on the 'Scorpio Rising' cd and features vocals from Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Death In Vegas!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Death In Vegas featuring Katie Stelmanis - 'Your Loft My Acid' Death In Vegas have just announced today that they will be releasing their first new album in seven years! It's called 'Trans-Love Energies' and it will be out on September 26th on their own Drone label. 'Your Loft My Acid' is the first single which features guest vocals from Katie Stelmanis - the lead singer for the Toronto band Austra - who just released their debut album called 'Feel It Break' in May. Katie Stelmanis is the only guest vocalist on the album - all other vocals on the album will feature founding band member Richard Fearless.

The album title 'Trans-Love Energies' was inspired by an anti-establishment group called Trans-Love Energies Unlimited that worked in Detroit in the 1960's. This is Death In Vegas's new single 'Your Loft My Acid'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Dum Dum Girls!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Dum Dum Girls - 'Coming Down' The Dum Dum Girls are an all female four piece band from Los Angeles, led by singer/ songwriter Kristen Grunded aka Dee Dee. They released their debut album called 'I Will Be' on Seattle's Sub Pop Records last March. It was produced by Richard Gottehrer - who is responsible for producing the debut albums from Blondie and the Go-Go's. The Dum Dum Girls are a bit darker sounding than those two bands - they've cited The Ronettes, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Jesus & Mary Chain and Mazzy Star as major influences.

Dum Dum Girls are set to release their second album called 'Only In Dreams' in September. The album is preceded by the tragic passing of her mother last October, who was suffering from brain cancer. Dee Dee describes this difficult period thusly: 'It was really hard to figure out how to balance the opportunity of having a record out on Sub Pop and wanting to tour, and then feeling really awful for not staying home and just quitting music for the year. Our next record, as much as I really love the songs, is definitely a dark record.'

The good news is that if this powerful song is to your liking, Sub Pop has made it available as a free download which you can get here: http://www.subpop.com/artists/dum_dum_girls

The Dum Dum Girls will be touring this fall in support of 'Only In Dreams' and will arrive in Vancouver on Saturday October 8th to perfrom at the Electric Owl! Tickets are on sale now here:
http://www.songkick.com/artists/2420301-dum-dum-girls#upcoming-tour-dates

This is first single from 'Only In Dreams' - the beautifully sad 'Coming Down' - singer Dee Dee sounds a bit like the legendary Chrissie Hynde at times here... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! M83!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! M83 - 'Midnight City' France's M83 have just released the first track from their forthcoming double album coming out in October! The song is called 'Midnight City' from the new album 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' which is due for release on October 28th. M83's main man Anthony Gonzalez describes it thusly 'It's mainly about dreams, how every one is different, how you dream differently when you're a kid, a teenager, or an adult. I'm really proud of it. If you're doing a very long album, all the songs need to be different and I think I've done that with this one.'

It's interesting that 'Midnight City' is described as the 'first track' from the album, so I'm betting that it's most likely not an official first single - just a taster. (update: turns out it is the first single!) I'm still assessing this one - I like it but I'm not so big on the keyboard hook - the sound is a bit shrill. Perhaps I'll get used to it after a few more listens. Perhaps. :) Regardless if this song is to your liking you can download a copy for free from their official website here: http://ilovem83.com/midnight-city

M83 will begin touring in support of 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' in Mexico City on Oct. 15th - arriving in Vancouver for a show at Venue on Saturday November 12th! Tickets are only $20 and are available now here: http://www.ticketweb.ca/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=3781515

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein - 'Viol'/ 'Opr' France's Gessaffelstein has just released a new EP on Tiga's Turbo Recordings label today! It's called 'Conspiracy Part 2' - the follow up to Part 1 which was released in April.        It features three tracks - two of which I shall feature here.

I've become quite a fan of Gesaffelstein's work - and I've been trying to pinpoint what I like about the sounds on this EP in particular - and I think I've got it. The title seems fitting (moreso than on Part 1) as the songs have this mysterious - almost sci-fi kind of sound to them. It sounds like the future - but the future as seen through the eyes of some 1950's black and white movie where alien robots take over the world!

This first song is also the first track on the EP - it sounds a bit like Daft Punk, only spacier - this is 'Viol'... Enjoy!

This is the second track on the new 'Conspiracy Part 2' EP which is available on both itunes and Beatport as of today - if you dig these songs I suggest going with itunes on this one as it's $2.97 (vs $5.97) for the whole EP! This is 'Opr'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Marco Bailey & Tom Hades!/ Da Fresh!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Marco Bailey & Tom Hades - 'Tienen' (Da Fresh Remix)/ Da Fresh - 'Once Again' (Hertz Remix) Umek's 1605 Music Therapy label have just released a new compilation today! It's called 'Remixed At 16:05 Vol. 2' - the follow up to Volume 1 of course - which was released way back in December 2009. It features 10 new remixes from the Slovenian label. If you're looking for some tuneage to liven up your Monday you've just found it! First up we have the Marco Bailey & Tom Hades track 'Tienen' remixed by France's Da Fresh... Enjoy!

In addition to the Da Fresh remix above, the new 1605 compilation 'Remixed At 16:05 Vol. 2' also features a remix of one of one of Arnaud Caschera's aka Da Fresh's own compositions - this is the new 'Hertz Remix' of 'Once Again'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Radiohead!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Radiohead - 'Bloom' (Mark Pritchard Remix)/ (Harmonic 313 Remix)/ 'Morning Mr. Magpie' (Nathan Fake Remix) Radiohead released the latest in a series of 12" singles featuring all new remixes this weekend! This is the second 12"release in the series of vinyl only (thus far) remixes of tracks from their 'King Of Limbs' album. This one features two remixes of the song 'Bloom' and one of 'Morning Mr. Magpie'.

The band have also announced that all of the remixes will be made available on one cd -AFTER they've all been released digitally and on vinyl! So for your listening pleasure I present all three new remixes of Radiohead's most recent forays into experimental electronic music - first up is the 'Bloom' remix from Sydney's Mark Pritchard... Enjoy!

And this is Harmonic 313's remix of 'Bloom'. Like Mark Pritchard - Harmonic 313 also hails from Sydney - which is no coincidence, as it's actually an alais of his! While remixed by the same human, this version is much more cinematic... Enjoy!

And this is Nathan Fake's remix of 'Morning Mr. Magpie'. Unlike Harmonic 313, Norfolk's Nathan Fake uses his 'real' name... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Luigi Madonna!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Luigi Madonna - 'Reset' (edit) Luigi Madonna is a dj/ producer from Italy who started dj'ing at age 11 and was playing clubs at age 14! At age 19 he started working on his own productions (in 2004) and he's just released his latest single on the Rekluse label. It's a double A-side single called 'Reset'/ 'Collusion' - both are great tracks but 'Reset' is a bit more to my liking. Please note that this is an 'edit' to prevent leeches from converting it to an mp3 - the full length remix is 6:42 and available exclusively on Beatport... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes + Free Download! Belle And Sebastian!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes + Free Download! Belle And Sebastian - 'I Didn't See It Coming' (Cold Cave Remix/ Richard X Remix) Glasgow's Belle And Sebastian released 'I Didn't See It Coming' as the second single from their most recent album called 'Write About Love' last fall. The song is an indie pop duet between lead singer Stuart Murdoch and Sarah Martin - who plays guitar, keyboards, violin and provides backing vocals in the band - and there are two brand new remixes coming out later this month!

These remixes will be included on their new EP called 'Come On Sister' which is released on July 26th - on vinyl only! The 12" will include the title track remixed by Tony Doogan, the album version of 'Blue Eyes Of A Millionaire' and two remixes of 'I Didn't See It Coming' - one by Richard X and one from Cold Cave. You can pre-order the EP through their label Matador's store here: http://store.matadorrecords.com/come-on-sister or from the bands official website here: http://www.belleandsebastian.com/

If the 'Cold Cave Remix' below is to your liking Matador Records has made it available as a free download which you can get here: http://www.matadorrecords.com/mpeg/belle_and_sebastian/i_didnt_see_it_coming_cold_cave_remix.mp3

So first up we have the remix from Wes Eisold of Cold Cave - which is the more club friendly version of the two remixes. I really like Sarah Martin's vocals in this song - she sounds a bit like another Sarah - Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne... Enjoy!

This is the 'Richard X Remix' which also features a new animated video... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Warma!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Warma - 'Cocaine' (TrockenSaft Remix) Warma is a 'tech & warm house' artist from Kiew Ukraine. 'Cocaine' is his latest single from an EP called 'Dangerous Friend' - which features three versions of 'Cocaine' and a track called 'Melodrama'. It's released on the Russian label KDB Records - which is run by Pasha Joint and Andrey Mute. Pasha Joint is from Minsk in Belarus (which is between the Ukraine and Russia - I looked it up!) and he is aka one half of the duo TrockenSaft - who provide this great remix!

If this remix of Warm's 'Cocaine' is to your liking TrockenSaft have made an edited version available as a free download on Soundcloud which you can scoop up here:

This is the full length version of the 'TrockenSaft Remix' - which is available on both itunes and Beatport. Ok, now let's take stock on some of the apparent pro's and con's of 'Cocaine'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Portishead!

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Portishead - 'Chase The Tear'/ 'Sour Times' (Airbus Reconstruction)/ 'Teardrop On Roads' (Massive Attack vs Portishead) Well today we have quite the concert announcement - Portishead have just announced their first full North American tour in over a decade! They're covering Canada, the U.S. and Mexico - but only playing a total of 11 lucky cities - and Vancouver is one of them! They will be performing at the PNE Forum on Monday Oct 24th. Tickets go on sale this Friday - with pre-sales courtesy of 100.5 The Peak and the Georgia Straight happening on Thursday.

To celebrate this event I present three distinctly different Portishead tracks - first up we have their most recent recording - the rather electro 'Chase The Tear'. 'Chase The Tear' was released on December 9th, 2009 in support of Human Rights Day to raise money for Amnesty International in the U.K. This is a cool fan made video for the song... Enjoy!

This is a rather rare remix of 'Sour Times' called the 'Airbus Reconstruction' which was first released on the U.K. cd single - and then on the 'Glory Times' EP. The 'Glory Times' EP was a Canadian only release that combined the tracklistings for the 'Sour Times' and 'Glory Box' singles. It was released in 1995 - as a 'limited edition' cd - although it was strangely available for many years, it's now long out of print. I like this version because it sounds a bit like Beth Gibbons fronting the Pixies! This is the 'Airbus Reconstruction' of 'Sour Times'... Enjoy!

This next one is actually a repost - as I first posted it on January 2nd of this year (http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/01/summersradio-massive-attack-vs.html) but it's completely repostworthy as this great remix is still available as a free download!

This mashup by Austin's Jaya Prime brings two of Bristol's finest bands together - Portishead and Massive Attack. 'Teardrop On Roads' mixes 'Teardrop' (which features vocals by Elizabeth Fraser - former vocalist for the Cocteau Twins) and Portishead's 'Roads' together in one seamless piece of trip hop heaven. 'Teardrop' is a single from Massive Attack's 1998 release 'Mezzanine' and 'Roads' is a standout album track from Portishead's 1994 debut 'Dummy'. If this remix is to your liking you can download a copy here for free courtesy of Jaya Prime himself: http://soundcloud.com/jaya-prime/teardrop-on-roads Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Computer Magic!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Computer Magic - '(Just Like) Starting Over' Computer Magic is the solo project of Danielle - who goes by Danz - a 21 year old dj/ student who lives in Brooklyn. She started Computer Magic a year ago and so far she's recorded and posted 18 electronic pop songs on Soundcloud which you can check out here: http://soundcloud.com/computer-magic/tracks

This is her newest recording - a cover of John Lennon's '(Just Like) Starting Over' - the first single from his 'Double Fantasy' album with Yoko Ono, which was released in 1980. The production is not quite as elaborate at Lennon's of course, but I quite like Danz's voice. This is Computer Magic's cover of '(Just Like) Starting Over'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Bonus Disc! Grandaddy!

SummersRadio™ Bonus Disc! Grandaddy - 'What Can't Be Erased'/ 'XD-Data-II' Last month when I first reported news of a 'Deluxe Edition' of Grandaddy's 'The Sophtware Slump' album I mentioned that I would post more details when they became available - today I have the full tracklisting for disc two! The 'Deluxe Edition' is being released to celebrate the 11th Anniversary of the release of the album - which is 'better than 10' in singer Jason Lytle's words.

Disc 2:
1. He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot
2. Our Dying Brains
3. L.F.O.
4. Wives Of Farmers
5. Chartsengrafs
6. N. Blender
7. Wonder Why In L.A.
8. Air Conditioners in the Woods
9. Moe Bandy Mountaineers
10. First Movement / Message Sent
11. XD-Data-II
12. Beautiful Ground
13. Street Bunny
14. She Deleter
15. What Can't Be Erased (Drinking Beer In The Bank Of America With Two Chicks From Tempe Arizona)
16. I Don't Want To Record Anymore
17. Aisle Seat 37-D
18. Hewlett's Daughter
19. Rode My Bike To My Stepsister's Wedding

I fully admit that I'm a pretty massive Grandaddy fan - but there are several tracks here that even I don't have! The 19 track disc consists largely of b-sides, but also demos and 'other lost bits and pieces created around that same time.' 'What Can't Be Erased' previously appeared on the 'Through A Frosty Plate Glass' EP which was released in 2001. It contained six tracks that first appeared as b-sides on their European singles - and it was also included as the bonus disc in some 2cd versions of 'The Sophtware Slump'. Thus far the Deluxe Edition is only scheduled for release in Europe on August 22nd - you can pre-order it here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sophtware-Slump-Grandaddy/dp/B005687SLA/ref=dp_return_2?ie=UTF8&n=229816&s=music

This is the first of two of their spacier, somewhat ambient tracks from that long out of print EP that will now be included on the 'Deluxe Edition'. This is a fan made video for 'What Can't Be Erased'... Enjoy!

In other Grandaddy news the band is reissuing their first three albums - 'Under The Western Freeway', The Sophtware Slump' and 'Sumday' on vinyl in North America on July 19th. Also available is a boxed 'Collector's Edition' that contains all three albums, an exlcusively designed t-shirt - and a poster handmade by Jason! You can find out more information on these and other items from their new official website here: http://grandaddymusic.com/

Here's another track included on the 'Deluxe Edition' of 'The Sophtware Slump' called 'X-Data-II'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Video! MK12!

SummersRadio™ New Video! MK12 - 'Follow The Sun' And now for something completely different... this isn't a music video per say - although it is a take on the classic 'Let's All Go To The Lobby' song and video that's been used in theaters and drive-ins for decades. The original animated musical short was first released in 1953 to promote concession stand products and was made by Dave Fleischer - who also produced the Popeye cartoons.

MK12 is a design and filmmaking collective based in Kansas City Missouri. They formed in 2000 and tend to specialize in experimental and short films - often merging both new and old technologies. 'Follow The Sun' is a fine example of this - just as the nostalgic appeal of the animated food starts to wear off - the acid trip starts to kick in... Enjoy!

Jaydee - 'Plastic Dreams (2011 Remixes)' (Dino Lenny & Amnesia Remix/ Koen Groeneveld Remix) 'Plastic Dreams' is one of those songs like New Order's 'Blue Monday' - it never really leaves clubland. This classic, first released on R&S Records in 1992 is still played in clubs - and every few years someone does a new remix. It will always be around dancefloors and parties because it's just that good! And here's some good news for fans of the song - the Dutch label Spinnin Records has just released the '2011 Remixes' EP containing seven brand new house and techno remixes!

I'm not going to post all seven - just two standouts! First up is this remix from Italy's Dino Anthony Lanni aka Dino Lenny and Roberto Longiaru aka Jose Amnesia  - who's version is fairly faithful to the original - but different enough to be interesting. That is until a thunderstorm breaks out midway through the song (complete with the obligatory car alarm - that's how they always unfold here in Vancouver!) carrying it into another dimension! This mix will sound great in a packed club - and perhaps even better at an outdoor party - on a clear night - just to mess with people's heads! :)

This is the 'Dino Lenny & Amnesia Remix' of Jaydee's 'Plastic Dreams'... Enjoy!

Jaydee is a duo consisting of the Netherlands Robin Albers and Italy's DJ Jay Dee. Here's another standout 2011 remix from one of the Netherland's current top techno producers Koen Groeneveld... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remixes! Little Dragon!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remixes! Little Dragon - 'Ritual Union' (Original Mix/ Tensnake Remix/ Maya Jane Coles Remix) Sweden's Little Dragon have just released a new EP this week! It's for their new single 'Ritual Union' - which is the second single and title track for their forthcoming third album which is due for release on July 26th.

The EP (and the album) is released on London's Peacefrog Records - it contains the title track - plus two remixes of it - and a remix of their last single 'Nightlight' by the Unknown Mortal Orchestra. I'm having a difficult time choosing which versions of 'Ritual Union' I like best so I'm going to post all three! In any case it's a great tune for a (mostly!) sunny summer day like today!

First up is the 'Original Mix'... Enjoy!

This is one of the two remixes on the new EP - this one is by Marco Niemerski aka Tensnake - a dj/ producer from Germany. This is the 'Tensnake Remix' of 'Ritual Union'... Enjoy!

And this is the other remix of the title track on the 'Ritual Union' EP - this one by the London artist/ dj/ producer Maya Jane Coles... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! DJ Chus & Pepo!

SummersRadio™ New Music! DJ Chus & Pepo - 'Shopska Salata' (Manuel De La Mare Mish Mash) Spain's DJ Chus & Pepo have just released a new EP called 'Shopska Salata' on the 303lovers Label. It contains the original mix and three remixes - and this one by Manuel De La Mare blows the others away!

Emanuele Mieme aka Manuel De La Mare is a dj/producer from Italy who's also one of the founders of the 303lovers label. Now I understand why some labels will choose to post only edits of their tracks on Youtube (and other sites) - to keep scammers from turning them into mp3 files for free. However, it's too bad that those ruiners have ruined it for us honest people who just want other humans to hear the entire song to encourage them to purchase it.

So at most there's only a 3 minute 20 second version available to share - but I honestly think that if you like this remix that you'd realize it within that time frame. I was intrigued from the start - and then at the 30 second mark I was like 'Yes! Sold!' And the good news is that the full song is 7 minutes 49 seconds - this is the 'Manuel De La Mare Mish Mash' remix of 'Shopska Salata'... Enjoy! *update - the full version is now posted*

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Cut Copy! OMD!

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Cut Copy! OMD! (separate shows!) A couple of great concerts have been announced today for fans of electronic music - both new and pioneering! Aside from both concerts just being announced today, I thought I'd post them together because Cut Copy are clearly one of many bands that have been influenced by OMD - they sound particularly similar on their recent single 'Need You Now'...

Now compare that with OMD's 'If You Leave' from John Hughes classic 1986 film 'Pretty In Pink'...

Cut Copy will be coming to Vancouver on October 7th to perform at the Vogue. Pre-sale tickets are available NOW (as of noon today) through their internet community here: http://tixx1.artistarena.com/cutcopy/

Cut Copy are touring in support of their latest album 'Zonoscope' and they've announced that these new dates throughout September and October will be their final North American headlining shows in support of this record. They've also announced that 'Blink And You'll Miss A Revolution' will be the next official single and it will be released on August 9th digitally, followed by a release on 12" vinyl shortly after. The package will include remixes from Toro Y Moi, Chicken Lips, Das Moth & Kenji Takimi, Tornado Wallace, and Henning Furst.

Here's the new remix of 'Blink And You'll Miss A Revolution" by Chazwick Bundick aka Tori Y Moi... Enjoy!

Also announced today is the Georgia Straight presentation of OMD! Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark are coming to Vancouver on Sept. 30th to perform at the Commodore. Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster this Friday, but there's also a pre-sale starting tomorrow at 10am. You can find out more info here: http://www.straight.com/article-402304/vancouver/georgia-straight-presents-omd-commodore-ballroom
(password hint: their latest album is called 'History Of ______')  :)

The synthpop pioneers are touring in support of their 11th studio album called 'History Of Modern' which was released last fall. 'History Of Modern (Part 1)' was released as the third single from the album a few months ago and the band had a contest inviting fans to make a video. This was the winner... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bart Skils!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Bart Skils - 'Dust' Bart Schils aka Bart Skils is a Dutch dj/ producer/ promoter from Amsterdam. He's just released a new two track EP called 'Dust/ Santiago' on Christian Smith's Tronic label today! Now you may recognize the vocal sample used in 'Dust' - although it sounds like a possibly crazy person like Nick Nolte or even Jack Nicholson from some movie - it's actually from another song called 'So Get Up' by Portuguese duo Underground Sound Of Lisbon (who are also responsible for another underground classic from NYLX that I posted last November http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/11/summersradio-classic-nylx-feat-lula.html).

'So Get Up' features lyrics by Korvorwong aka Darin Pappas - who is now more commonly known as artist/ musician Ithaka. The song was first released in 1993 as a b-side and then properly as an a-side single in 1994. I will post the original as well as it deserves props but you may also recognize the sample from other sources - including as the intro for Miss Kittin's 'Radio Caroline Vol. 1' mix cd in 2003, and sampled in Stretch & Vern's 1997 hit 'Get Up! Go Insane!'. It's also been sampled in several other songs - as an acapella version was included on the 1994 single.

Although the sample may be familiar, Bart Skils track 'Dust' sounds fresh for 2011 due to the wicked groove he's created to accompany it... Enjoy!

The Underground Sound Of Lisbon was a collaboration between Rui da Silva aka Doctor J and DJ Vibe. A tenth anniversary edition of 'So Get Up' was released in 2004 featuring 8 mixes - including remixes by Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez, Eric Kupper and others. I still like the acid house feel of the original version - here's the 'Original Mix' of 'So Get Up' from the Underground Sound Of Lisbon featuring the spoken word lyrics of (and written by) Ithaka... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ 4th Of July! Classic! Full Intention!

SummersRadio™ 4th Of July! Classic! Full Intention - 'America (I Love America)' (Original Sugar Daddy 12" Mix) Here's a classic for the American fans of SummersRadio™! 'I Love America' was first a disco hit for Switzerland's Patrick Juvet in 1978.

Full Intention is a London duo consisting of Michael Gray and Jon Pearn. They formed in 1990 and more recently Gray has released a number of singles under his own name - and Pearn is one half of the duo known as Bodyrox. Duvet's version of the song clocked in at over 14 minutes - Full Intention's version of the song is more of a remake than a cover. They completely changed the (and radically reduced the number of) lyrics - but kept the chorus. They renamed it 'America (I Love America)' in 1995 and it went on to hit number 1 on the club charts in the summer of '96.

As is the case with many club tunes, it's the production that makes this song great - especially on the vocal harmonies. This is the 'Original Sugar Daddy 12" Mix'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Electronic!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Electronic - 'The Patience Of A Saint' I mentioned the band Electronic in yesterday's Stop Modernists post - and how two of the three songs that Neil Tennant sang on were singles. Well this is the third - which SHOULD have been released as a single - a witty duet between New Order's Bernard Sumner and the Pet Shop Boys Neil Tennant - not to mention featuring the Smith's Johnny Marr - I mean, how cool is that?!

I always wished that remixes had been made of this song - but they never were. There's still time though - Electronic's self titled debut album was released in 1991 - they could easily release a 20th anniversary edition with all new remixes - I'm talking to you EMI!

Despite it's apparent destiny to remain a relatively unknown album track, part of what makes this song so great are the sardonic lyrics. Some of my favorite lines are 'And if I drove a faster car, I'd drive it bloody well' and 'Why should I care? I'd rather watch drying paint'. This is 'The Patience Of A Saint'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stop Modernists featuring Chris Lowe!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stop Modernists featuring Chris Lowe - 'Subculture' (Main Vocal Extended/ Dub) Yesterday's Canada Day post featured a new remix from the Pet Shop Boys - today's new music features vocals from one of them - but not singer Neil Tennant's! Stop Modernists is the name of a collaboration between Finnish dj/ producers and longtime friends Jori Hulkkonen and Alex Neiminen.

'Subculture' is a cover of New Order's classic single from their excellent album 'Low-Life' which was released in 1985. It features vocals from Chris Lowe - the quieter half of the Pet Shop Boys duo - the one who seldom speaks - and who even more rarely sings! The song is released on the Helsinki based Keys Of Life label and features two versions - the 'Main Vocal Extended' and 'Dub' versions. The 'Dub' version still features Lowe on vocals but via a vocoder, adding to it's electro feel.

Of course the Pet Shop Boys are no strangers to New Order having previously been part of the 'alternative dance supergroup' Electronic - that featured New Order's Bernard Sumner and the Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr. They collaborated on three tracks that all featured Neil Tennant on vocals - two of which were singles - 'Getting Away With It' and 'Disappointed'.

This cover is very faithful to the original - which may lead one to question why one would do it - but when you've been a fan of New Order and the Pet Shop Boys as long as I have it makes no difference! It's a quality cover - with Chris Lowe's delivery being similar to Bernard Sumner's trademark understated vocals. I like both versions of the track, so here they are - starting with the 'Main Vocal Extended' version... Enjoy!

And here's the slightly more electro flavored 'Dub' version... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Canada Day! New Remix! Hidden Cameras + Pet Shop Boys!

SummersRadio™ Canada Day! New Remix! Hidden Cameras - 'Colour Of A Man' (Pet Shop Boys Organic Mix) Well I posted a new Air remix a few hours ago, but as it's Canada Day today it seems appropriate to also post a Canadian artist - and I found a brand new remix as well!

Hidden Cameras are from Toronto and they've been making music for the past ten years - in fact they are celebrating their 10 year anniversary with a show at Barbican in London tomorrow! The show will also feature a performance from Chilly Gonzales - along with a showing of his feature film 'Ivory Tower' which includes cameos from fellow Canadian's Feist, Peaches and Tiga. The show is part of 'Canadian Blast' - a weekend of Canada Day celebrations in London - that also featured Blue Rodeo performing in Trafalger Square earlier today.

And as a bonus Hidden Cameras have just released this new remix online by one of London's finest! 'Colour Of A Man' is a track from their last album - their fifth - called 'Origin: Orphan', which was released on the Arts & Crafts label in 2009. This is the new 'Pet Shop Boys Organic Remix'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Air - 'Kelly Watch The Stars' (Nick Thayer Bootleg) Nicholas Robinson aka Nick Thayer is an artist/ producer from Australia who's just made this new remix available online today! This is his bootleg remix of 'Kelly Watch The Stars' from Air's 1998 debut full length album 'Moon Safari'. If this remix is to your liking you can download it for free on Soundcloud courtesy of Nick himself here:

SummersRadio™ New Music! Mr. Federick & Matteo Batini!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Mr. Federick & Matteo Batini - 'Eleven' I was searching for a new tune to help start the Canada Day long weekend off right - and I just found it! Mr. Federick & Matteo Batini are two upcoming dj/producers from Rome that have just released a new song called 'Eleven' this week! It's released on Beenoise Records which is a new digital label - also based in Rome - that was born on January 1st of this year. They describe themselves thusly 'Beenoise's mission is to discover new talents and promote them in the most efficient way as possible. We are working to achieve an "elite label" where only good sound and engaging grooves will find their home.' If this song is any indication they're certainly on the right track - this is 'Eleven'... Enjoy!
