SummersRadio™ New Music! Justin Martin & Eats Everything - 'Kong' (Original Mix)
San Francisco's Justin Martin and Bristol's Eats Everything have released a new EP together called 'Hello Mr. Jello'! The 'Hello Mr. Jello' EP features two tracks - 'Steven Jello' and 'Kong'. It's released on Dirtybird Records and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/hello-mr-jello/1265955
The b side 'Kong' mixes drum machines, spacey keyboard sounds and several low flying aircraft together... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Underset - 'Moon Rover' (Deepfunk Remix)
Paul Volkanov aka Underset is a dj/ producer from Krasnodar, Russia who's just released a new EP called 'Moon Rover'! The EP features four versions of the title track - the original, an instrumental version, and two remixes. It's released on Bristol's Hope Recordings label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/moon-rover/936710
The 'Deepfunk Remix' from Malta's Deepfunk is the real standout here and it's actually the first track on the EP. You can hear some definite old school electronic influences on this hypnotic trip to the moon from legendary producers like Giorgio Moroder and Bobby Orlando - this is 'Moon Rover'... Enjoy!
Photek has just released the latest DJ-Kicks mix compilation! The 39th volume in the series (#40 will be from Maya Jane Coles and released later in April) features 18 tracks - including four Photek originals and two collaborations - and is out now everywhere except North America (it's released here on Tuesday) on the !K7 Records label.
Like all DJ-Kicks mixes Photek's is a diverse journey. This is the seventh track on the compilation - created with Bristol dj/ producer Pinch - 'M25FM' is a nice chilled acid techno tune... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Kosheen DJs - 'Hatch 2' Bristol's Kosheen DJs have just released a new EP called 'Hatch' this week! It contains three tracks - numbered as 'Hatch 1', 2 and 3 - and it's released on the Skeleton label. The 'Hatch' EP is currently available exclusively on Beatport here: http://www.beatport.com/#release/hatch/830847
Kosheen DJs have actually been around for many years - and their sound has constantly been evolving. The trio released their debut album - then known simply as Kosheen - called 'Resist' in 2001 and had a number of hit singles around the world. Their sound initially revolved around drum and bass and breakbeat, but their second album 'Kokopelli' in 2003 had more of a guitar focus. Two members of the band have also recorded under the name Decoder & Substance, and more recently they've been recording techno tracks under the name Kosheen DJs.
Out of the three 'Hatch' tracks it's 'Hatch 2' that does it most for me with it's wicked production - especially the break that starts around 2:45 in - that gets even cooler around 3:18ish... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Concert News! Portishead - 'Chase The Tear'/ 'Sour Times' (Airbus Reconstruction)/ 'Teardrop On Roads' (Massive Attack vs Portishead) Well today we have quite the concert announcement - Portishead have just announced their first full North American tour in over a decade! They're covering Canada, the U.S. and Mexico - but only playing a total of 11 lucky cities - and Vancouver is one of them! They will be performing at the PNE Forum on Monday Oct 24th. Tickets go on sale this Friday - with pre-sales courtesy of 100.5 The Peak and the Georgia Straight happening on Thursday.
To celebrate this event I present three distinctly different Portishead tracks - first up we have their most recent recording - the rather electro 'Chase The Tear'. 'Chase The Tear' was released on December 9th, 2009 in support of Human Rights Day to raise money for Amnesty International in the U.K. This is a cool fan made video for the song... Enjoy!
This is a rather rare remix of 'Sour Times' called the 'Airbus Reconstruction' which was first released on the U.K. cd single - and then on the 'Glory Times' EP. The 'Glory Times' EP was a Canadian only release that combined the tracklistings for the 'Sour Times' and 'Glory Box' singles. It was released in 1995 - as a 'limited edition' cd - although it was strangely available for many years, it's now long out of print. I like this version because it sounds a bit like Beth Gibbons fronting the Pixies! This is the 'Airbus Reconstruction' of 'Sour Times'... Enjoy!
This mashup by Austin's Jaya Prime brings two of Bristol's finest bands together - Portishead and Massive Attack. 'Teardrop On Roads' mixes 'Teardrop' (which features vocals by Elizabeth Fraser - former vocalist for the Cocteau Twins) and Portishead's 'Roads' together in one seamless piece of trip hop heaven. 'Teardrop' is a single from Massive Attack's 1998 release 'Mezzanine' and 'Roads' is a standout album track from Portishead's 1994 debut 'Dummy'. SummersRadio™ Massive Attack vs Portishead - 'Teardrop On Roads' This mashup by Austin's Jaya Prime stitches together Massive Attack's 'Teardrop' (featuring vocals by Elizabeth Fraser - former vocalist for the Cocteau Twins) and Portishead's 'Roads'! 'Teardrops' is a single from Massive Attack's 1998 release called 'Mezzanine' and 'Roads' is a standout track from Portishead's 1994 debut 'Dummy' - both bands are from Bristol. This seems like more of a medley than a mashup, but that's perhaps because it fits together so seamlessly.
