SummersRadio™ Presents... STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular!
SummersRadio™ Presents... STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular! Mazzy Star - 'Into Dust' Darkness falls. And so it begins - our second annual STARTLEFEST - 2011 Edition! This is our tip of the hat to Halloween where we feature songs beyond the typical 'Thriller's and 'Ghostbusters' you'll being hearing everywhere else.
We begin by following Mazzy Star's brand new 'Common Burn' single (posted at the common burning time of 4:20 no less!) with another Mazzy Star song that was never released as a single - but it's managed to chart several times in recent years nonetheless.
'Into Dust' is the ninth track on Mazzy Star's beautiful 1993 album 'So Tonight That I Might See'. It first charted in the U.K. in 2009 after being used in a Virgin Mobile commercial - and then it charted again this year after being used in commercials for the 'Gears Of War 3' videogame.
As it was never a proper single there's no official video for the song, but as is common with great songs, a number of fans have made their own. I like this one in particular as it suits the acoustic sparseness of the song - featuring some great photographs from a cemetery. Truth be told, the odds are pretty good that we'll all end up buried underground or set on fire at some point - reducing us all to dust in the end. That's a bit scary isn't it? Behold the frightening stillness of Mazzy Star's 'Into Dust'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Stefano Noferini! Da Fresh!
SummersRadio™ New Remixes! John Acquaviva, Alex D'Elia & Nihil Young featuring Dan Diamond - 'Good Music' (Stefano Noferini Remix)/ John Acquaviva & Olivier Giacomotto - 'While My Wiki Gently Leaks' (Da Fresh Remix) London Ontario's Definitive Recordings label have released numerous top quality tracks lately - and five of them get the remix treatment on the label's new 'All Star Remixers 2011 Vol. 2' EP released this week!
'All Star Remixers 2011 Vol. 2' follows Vol. 1 of course - which featured four new remixes and was released in April. This time there's five solid new remixes - and I've chosen my two favorites thus far to share. First we have John Acquaviva, Alex D'Elia & Nihil Young featuring Dan Diamond's aptly titled collaboration called 'Good Music' - remixed by Italy's Stefano Noferini. Please note that the label posts edits of their songs to discourage illegal copying. This edit is 4:14 - the full version is 6:43 (another two and a half minutes of awesome grooves!) and is currently available exclusively on Beatport here:
http://www.beatport.com/#release/all-star-remixers-2011-vol-2/822078
This is the opening track on the 'All Star Remixers 2011 Vol. 2' EP - the excellent 'Stefano Noferini Remix' of 'Good Music'... Enjoy!
John Acquaviva and Olivier Giacomotto's cleverly titled 'While My Wiki Gently Leaks' track closes off the 'All Star Remixers 2011 Vol. 2' EP in the form of this new remix from France's Da Fresh. Once again the full song is an extra two and half minutes longer than this edit... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Keep Shelly In Athens!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Keep Shelly In Athens - 'DIY' Greece's Keep Shelly In Athens have just released another new song from their forthcoming EP online. We previously featured the title track from their 'Our Own Dream' EP in August - and today we have their new single called 'DIY'!
Their new six track EP is released on limited 12" vinyl on the Forest Family label November 5th in North America. (They will be releasing a different four track EP in the U.K. called 'Campus Martius' on the Planet Mu label on December 5th http://www.planet.mu/discography/ZIQ314 ). The coloured vinyl release is limited to 500 copies - 250 white and 250 in silver.
This is their new single 'DIY' - I like how the piano and keyboards create a sense of cinematic urgency to the track - and the horns are a nice touch too - in addition to Sarah P.'s fine vocals of course... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Nine Inch Nails!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Nine Inch Nails - 'Zoo Station' As mentioned in Sunday's Jack White post - the new issue of Q magazine hits the stands today - along with a bonus cd called called 'Ahk-toong Bay-bi Covered'. It's a track by track album of covers by some big name artists to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of U2's Achtung Baby album. Since it's unlikely that many of us outside of the U.K. will be able to buy a copy, I thought I'd feature another song from it today!
'Zoo Station' is of course the opening track on the album and if you were expecting Trent Reznor to deliver a banging industrial version of the song, you may be a titch disappointed - as he's opted for a rather restrained approach. The way U2's version begins is a bit industrial sounding already - so perhaps that's why he chose to go in the opposite direction - maybe he just didn't want to do what people were expecting him to do. Or perhaps now that he's 46 maybe he's just mellowed out - in any case here's Nine Inch Nails rather chilled cover of 'Zoo Station'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Joy Division!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Joy Division - 'She's Lost Control' (Young Edits Voices In Her Edit) Luke Foskey aka Young Edits// Youth or simply Youth (not to be confused with U.K. musician/ producer Martin Glover aka Youth - who has produced or remixed artists such as Primal Scream, The Verve, U2, The Shamen, Art Of Noise and many others - and who also started the first psychedelic trance label - Dragonfly Records!) is a 22 year old dj/ producer from Brisbane Australia. He's just released his latest remix online - of the Joy Division classic 'She's Lost Control'!
'She's Lost Control' appeared on Joy Division's debut album 'Unknown Pleasures' in 1979. A different version of the song was later released as a single in summer of 1980. The lyrics involve a girl having an epileptic seizure - Joy Division's guitarist/ vocalist Ian Curtis also had epilepsy.
This remix is respectful of the original - Luke says on his Soundcloud page:
'A band synonymous with artistic influence on my generation and I am no exception. I've always toyed with the idea of turning this track into something dancefloor orientated, but I never wanted it to lose its depth of originality nor its dark edge.
Hopefully this edit does justice to one of the most phenomenal and influential bands of their time. RIP Ian x'
This is the 'Young Edits Voices In Her Edit' remix of 'She's Lost Control' which will be released soon on the Discofil label - I particularly like it when the acid techno bits kick in later in the song (about 5:50 in)... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Jack White!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Jack White - 'Love Is Blindness' In yesterday's bonus track we featured Jack White in his collaboration with Electric Six - today we have a brand new Jack White track - a cover of U2's 'Love Is Blindness'! This month marks the 25th Anniversary of Q - the British music magazine. As part of their celebrations, the December issue of the magazine - which hits the stands this Wednesday the 26th - will come with a new exclusive U2 covers album - specifically an Achtung Baby tribute album! It also just happens to be the 20th anniversary of U2's 'Achtung Baby' next month - and the 12 track bonus disc is called 'Ahk-toong Bay-bi Covered'.
*update* If you were frustrated that you'd miss out on this release because you can't buy Q in your area, 'Ahk-toong Bay-bi Covered' is going to be released on itunes on November 15th!
Here's the complete tracklisting and cover art:
1. Nine Inch Nails - Zoo Station
2. U2 - Even Better Than the Real Thing (Jacques Lu Cont Mix)
3. Damien Rice - One
4. Patti Smith - Until The End Of The World
5. Garbage - Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
6. Depeche Mode - So Cruel
7. Snow Patrol - Mysterious Ways
8. The Fray - Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World
9. Gavin Friday - The Fly
10. The Killers - Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
11. Glasvegas - Acrobat
12. Jack White - Love Is Blindness
Despite beings a critics favorite 'Achtung Baby' is hardly my favorite U2 album - although it certainly has a few classic U2 songs on it. None of the tracks I'm still most curious to hear are posted anywhere just yet - the NIN, Depeche Mode or Snow Patrol covers - however they have released three songs online thus far. One is Garbage's 'Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses' - Shirley Manson's vocals are seductively lovely as always, but the song loses it appeal for me when the sludgy chorus kicks in. I didn't find it completely postworthy but you can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFJnzab8sng
They've also released the Damien Rice cover of 'One' - which just seems wrong to me - and Jack White's explosive cover of 'Love Is Blindness' - most certainly the stand out of these initial three offerings. As is the case with some of his own White Stripes material - Jack White manages to turn the U2 track into a full on Led Zeppelin styled freak out! It's gutsier, bluesier, and as Bono says on the magazine cover 'some of these versions are better than our own' - I just might be inclined to agree on this one... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Peter Horrevorts!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Peter Horrevorts - 'Fire In The Disco' The Netherlands Peter Horrevorts has released a new EP on Germany's Kanzleramt label called 'Fire In The Disco'! It features two tracks - 'Fire In The Disco' and 'Smoke In The Club'.
'Fire In The Disco' mixes an array of genres together - it's mostly tech house but with sprinkles of reggae and ska, techno, and disco - with some great production - featuring plenty of keyboard effects... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! Well I could hardly post a song called 'Fire In The Disco' without thinking of Electric Six's classic 'Danger! High Voltage'! Electric Six just released their eighth studio album called 'Heartbeats And Brainwaves' earlier this month on Metropolis Records, but they achieved their first major success with this song in 2003 - fueled in part by the fact that it featured the White Stripes Jack White on backing vocals (under the psuedonym John S O'Leary) - as both bands were part of the Detroit garage rock scene.
This is the Les Rhythmes Digitalis (aka Stuart Price) 'Thin White Duke Mix' of 'Danger! High Voltage'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Secret Cinema & Kalden Bess!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Secret Cinema & Kalden Bess - 'Pow Pow' (Original Mix) Looking to add a little Pow! to your weekend? Rotterdam's Jeroen Verheij aka Secret Cinema and Canadian dj/ producer Bessioud Mohamed Khaled aka m0h aka Kalden Bess - have released a new EP together on Montreal's Ground Factory Records this week! It's called the 'Pow!' EP and it features three tracks - the first song is called 'Bam Bam', followed by 'Pow Pow' and then a dub version of 'Pow Pow'. It's currently available exclusively on Beatport here: http://www.beatport.com/#release/pow-ep/818740
I'm siding with the b-side as it were on this one - this is the 'Original Mix' of 'Pow Pow'. The song has an incredible drive to it - along with trippy French vocals - and plenty of spacey keyboards. You know how some songs are so encompassing that on a good night out they journey beyond the dancefloor - until everyone - people at their tables, in the bar lines ups - everywhere - are dancing? This is one of those songs... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Death Cab For Cutie! (+Bonus Track + Free Download!)
SummersRadio™ New Remix + Bonus Track + Free Download! Death Cab For Cutie - 'You Are A Tourist' (The 2 Bears Remix)/ The 2 Bears - 'Bear Hug' (Cristoff Remix) You may be thinking 'hey - didn't you just post a new DCFC remix last week'? Why yes, I did - as mentioned last week DCFC is releasing a new remix each week for a total of seven weeks - until their entire new 'Keys And Codes Remix EP' is officially released on November 22nd. I quite like DCFC but somewhat strangely I haven't felt compelled to buy their new album yet - it doesn't seem to be nearly as wonderful as 'Transatlanticism' or even 'Narrow Stairs' - it just sounds a bit watered down to me. However after hearing only two remixes I'm already committed to purchasing the full remix EP. So there's five remixes left - and if they're good - I'll post them too!
So this week's new remix is of their single 'You Are A Tourist' - by London's 2 Bears. The 2 Bears are a duo consisting of Raf Rundell and Hot Chip's Joe Goddard. This is an interesting remix - although I see that it's receiving a lot of flack in the youtube and itunes comments sections. But then a surprising number of people just don't get remixes anyway - sad, but true. I must admit that as a rule I'm generally not a fan of sped up vocals in a remix - and they are here. The effect is rather odd - it's almost like they're trying to make Ben Gibbard sound more like the Pet Shop Boy's Neil Tennant! But then when I first posted the video for 'You Are A Tourist' in April, I mentioned that I think that Gibbard also sounds like Jon Anderson (of Yes and Jon & Vangelis fame) when singing the line 'this fire grows higher'! Am I crazy or spot on?Anyway if you can get past the odd vocals, musically speaking this remix is top notch - and it has some awesome cowbell as well... Enjoy!
Bonus Track + Free Download! The 2 Bears released their third EP in May called 'Bear Hug' on Southern Fried Records. It's available in the U.K. - and in the U.S. on itunes, but somewhat annoyingly it's not on itunes here in Canada - however it is available on Beatport http://www.beatport.com/#release/bear-hug-ep/817869 - along with the 'Bear Hug Remixes' EP that came out in July. http://www.beatport.com/#release/bear-hug-remixes/392438
Here's an interesting remix of the title track from the 'Bear Hug' EP that I came across on Soundcloud by Manchester's Chris Massey aka cristoffmassey. If this superbly funky remix is to your liking you can download it for free courtesy of cristoffmassey here: http://soundcloud.com/cristoffmusic/the-2-bears-bear-hug-cristoff (or click the download arrow below)

SummersRadio™ New Music! Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - 'Everybody's On The Run'/ 'Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me' Former Oasis lead guitarist Noel Gallagher has just released his new single - and his debut full length album - this week! Well, sort of - it's released in the U.K. this week, but for some barbaric reason 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' isn't released here in North America until November 8th. When will the record companies realize that this is the modern world, and when it comes to big name artists they should have a single worldwide release date?! Have they not heard of this new internet fad? I think making people wait for three weeks unnecessarily only encourages some people to download illegally. Anyroad, it's out now - so let's check out a couple songs beyond the singles.
There are two particular tracks on the album that stand out initally for me - as they're a bit more adventurous musically speaking than most - and they just happen to be the opening and closing tracks on the album. Unfortunately UMG (Universal Music Group) has blocked out videos for the album closer 'A Simple Game of Genius' in this part of the world - but here's the first track on 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' - 'Everybody's On The Run' - I like the strings and the vocal choir... Enjoy!
'The Death Of You And Me' was released as the first single from the album in the U.K. on August 19th - however in the rest of the world they opted for 'If I Had A Gun' as the first single - and it was just released last week. In the U.K. they're already on to single number two - 'AKA... What a Life'. Although released digitally on September 9th, it was just released physically on cd single and 7" yesterday in the U.K. I actually perfer the b-side of this single - the gospel styled 'Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me' - another standout track on the album. Once again I like the strings and backing vocals here - and the opening keyboard bits... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Compilation! Weekend In Amsterdam!
SummersRadio™ New Compilation! Weekend In Amsterdam! Roman Gertz - 'Elastic Mind'/ Dataminions - 'Park'/ Axel Karakasis - 'Waveshaper' Respekt Recordings is a U.K. label started in 2009 by the techno duo Spektre. They've just released their latest compilation called 'Mutual Respekt: Weekend In Amsterdam' today! The compilation features seven brand new tracks and is released in celebration of the Amsterdam Dance Event - an annual electronic music conference that started in 1996.
I haven't been to Amsterdam yet - but I suspect that it will be to my liking when I do go - as the city seems to have a fondess for both fine weed and fine techno! This is a very solid release - all seven songs are expertly produced specimens of peak hour techno madness - it's Monday night but it feels like weekend again just listening to 'Weekend In Amsterdam'!
I couldn't choose just one song to feature - or two - so today we have a threesome of sorts. Let's begin with the second track on the compilation - 'Elastic Mind' from Roman Gertz... Enjoy!
Now that Roman Gertz has made your mind elastic... I hear some music coming from over there in the park - let's go check it out! I like the name Dataminions - being a big fan of the word 'minion' itself - this is 'Park' - the fourth track on the new 'Weekend In Amsterdam' compilation. I like the disco influence about one minute in... Enjoy!
Do we have time for one more? Yes. Let's wrap up at the beginning - with track one on 'Weekend In Amsterdam' - just released today! (and currently available exclusively on Beatport) This is Axel Karakasis - 'Waveshaper'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Cassettes Won't Listen!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Cassettes Won't Listen - 'Ordinary World' From one new unexpected cover to another - yesterday we featured Sophie Ellis-Bextor's fun new Arcade Fire cover - and today we have the new Cassettes Won't Listen single - a cover of Duran Duran's 'Ordinary World'!
Cassettes Won't listen is basically the one man electronic project of Brooklyn's Jason Drake. He released his third full length album called 'Evinspacey' in June of this year - and 'Ordinary World' is his first new material since then - released earlier this week on the Daylight Curfew label. (available on itunes)
'Ordinary World' was first released by Duran Duran as the leadoff single from their 1993 comeback album - which was self titled but largely known as 'The Wedding Album'. The song became their first single to reach the top ten in both the U.K. and the U.S. in five years - since their 80's heyday.
Cassettes Won't Listen's cover of 'Ordinary World' - like yesterday's 'Rebellion (Lies)' - is quite faithful to the original. This version is also more electronic - with perhaps a dreamier vocal sound... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Sophie Ellis-Bextor!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Sophie Ellis-Bextor - 'Rebellion (Lies)' Sophie Ellis-Bextor's latest song is an Arcade Fire cover! Sophie Ellis-Bextor has come a long way since fronting the Britpop band theaudience in the late 90's - she's had nine top 20 hits in the U.K. (including her club hits with Spiller and Freemasons) and she's released four studio albums. Her latest song is a track on the new charity compilation called 'Songs To Save A Life: In Aid Of Samaritans' - which is available on itunes now.
The 'Songs To Save A Life: In Aid Of Samaritans' album features 11 tracks - a mix of both new material and covers - by a diverse range of U.K. artists. The Samaritans are a support network in the U.K. and Ireland that has over 200 branches - in addition to a 24 hour helpline - that is run entirely by trained volunteers. Their goal is to give people someone to talk to when they're struggling to cope - and to help reduce the number of suicides in the U.K.
I didn't know what to expect when I first gave this song a listen - a cover of Arcade Fire's 2005 single 'Rebellion (Lies)' from their debut album 'Funeral'. It's not a full on dance cover - it's actually pretty faithful to the original - but the music is certainly more electronic. What I really love in this version (aside from Sophie's beautiful voice of course) is the wicked snare drum sound and disco style hi-hats that start about one minute in (with the bass/ guitar it sounds almost New Order-ish!) and also the keyboard bits in the last minute or so.
So I was surprised to hear about this cover - but the even better surprise is how good it really is - she really brings out the fun in this 'Funeral' track! :) This is Sophie Ellis-Bextor's new cover of 'Rebellion (Lies)'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Sam Paganini!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Sam Paganini - 'Cobra'/ 'Phantom' Italy's Sam Paganini has released a new topnotch EP called 'Cobra' on the Plus 8 Records label. Choosing which of the four songs from it to post has proved to be a challenge though - as all four are very solid well produced dance tracks that you can enjoy losing yourself in! I've chosen my two favorites so far - let's begin with the title track - this is 'Cobra'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Delay Trees!
SummersRadio™ Delay Trees - 'Gold' Try as I may, of course no one can always be one of the first to hear about every great new band or song - it's not mathematically possible! Sometimes music drifts your way at it's own pace - perhaps when the timing is just right. Such is the case with Finland's Delay Trees - they released their self titled debut full length album here in North America on the Friendly Fire Recordings label in May - but I've only recently discovered them.
You can learn more about Delay Trees from their official website here: http://www.delaytrees.com/
and/ or on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/delaytrees?sk=app_178091127385#!/delaytrees
'Gold' is the first track of ten on their album - it's a beautiful song featuring some wonderful wall of sound style production and great lyrics to match:
GOLD
Gold come in
Take over and lift up my arms
Change my name
The pain slowly pouring into the night
I walk in
Darling, you said something in me wasn't right
Light comes clear through sky
And for years I know I've been blind
This is Delay Trees - 'Gold'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Kate Bush!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Kate Bush - 'Wild Man' When I posted details of Kate Bush's forthcoming album '50 Words For Snow' last week there was no music available just yet - well today we have the first single! (click here for the album tracklisting, cover art and a rare remix: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/10/summersradio-music-news-rare-remix.html)
'Wild Man' is the first single and it's available now on itunes. The backing vocals have a very unique sound here - it sounds like a number of (effects laden) vocalists are melded together - but I'm thinking that they could very well all be Kate. I'll have to wait until the album credits come out to verify I suppose!
There's no official proper video for 'Wild Man' released yet (just a still photo one) but once again a number of fans have already made their own - here's one that was originally blocked by EMI, but later given the 'ok'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Death Cab For Cutie! + Bonus Track!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Death Cab For Cutie - 'Doors Unlocked And Open' (Cut Copy Remix) Bellingham's Death Cab For Cutie have just released a new remix on itunes today - and they've just announced that they're releasing a seven track remix EP next month! The EP is called the 'Keys And Codes Remix EP' - quite obviously featuring remixes of tracks from their 'Codes And Keys' album which was released at the end of May.
The 'Keys And Codes Remix EP' will be released on November 22nd - and starting today the band will unveil one new remix a week for seven weeks on their official website here: http://www.deathcabforcutie.com/
This is the brand new remix from Cut Copy - who performed two shows here in Vancouver on Friday and Saturday - of Death Cab For Cutie's 'Doors Unlocked And Open'... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello (aka Dntel and James Figurine) formed The Postal Service and released their debut album - and only full length release so far - in 2003. I suspect that the new 'Keys And Codes Remix EP' will be of some comfort to fans who've been waiting eight years for a follow up - at least to hear Ben Gibbard sing on some more electronic tracks.
This is The Postal Service's 'Nothing Better' - the 'Styrofoam Remix' - from the EP for 'We Will Become Silhouettes' which was the fourth single released from their 'Give Up' album. I love the female vocals on this song - which are provided by Seattle's Jen Wood of the Jen Wood Trio... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + New Music + Free Downloads! Nirvana + Sound Remedy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix + New Music + Free Downloads! Nirvana - 'All Apologies' (Sound Remedy Remix)/ Sound Remedy - 'Life' I suppose it's because I've heard some rather turrible Nirvana remixes in the past, that I wasn't expecting much when I checked out this new remix of 'All Apologies' - but I must say that I'm rather amazed at how good this Sound Remedy remix is!
Like SBTRKT featured yesterday, Sound Remedy embraces a number of musical genres - and strangely also seems to have a fondness for masks! Now choosing to remix an artist like Nirvana is quite a lofty task, but L.A's Sound Remedy certainly delivers here - and if this remix is to your liking you can download it for free on Soundcloud courtesy of Sound Remedy himself here: http://soundcloud.com/soundremedy/nirvana-all-apologies-sound (or click the download arrow below)
The original song is pretty much intact here - but with the addition of lots of spacey keyboard sounds - and a number of tempo changes - the amazing part is how it all flows together so seamlessly - to put it simply, it works! This is the new 'Sound Remedy Remix' of Nirvana's 'All Apologies'... Enjoy!
Nirvana - All Apologies (Sound Remedy Remix) by Sound Remedy
Nirvana's 'All Apologies' is actually just the first of three 'Remix Potions' that Sound Remedy released online on Friday - he's also remixed tracks from Frank Ocean ('Remix Potion #2') and Wolfgang Gartner ('Remix Potion #3') - the latter being a mashup that features samples from Daft Punk and Steve Jobs! You can find out more about these on his Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/soundremedy?
And in addition to that he's also just released a new EP of original songs called 'Potions' today! 'Potions' features five tracks which can also be downloaded for free from his official website here: http://www.soundremedy.com/
On his Facebook page Sound Remedy has his description listed as 'no genre. Just, Sound Remedy' - I like it when artists are that open minded and refuse to be pigeon-holed. 'Life' is one of his new original songs on the 'Potions' EP and not surprisingly it embraces a number of styles - house, techno, funk, dubstep - and a dash of disco. Once again what makes this song so good is Sound Remedy's ability to stitch everything together so smoothly to create a quality tune that ultimately transcends it's many varied sounds...

Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! SBTRKT!
SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! SBTRKT - 'Hold On' (Siavash Cold As Ice Remix) It's always good to see a Vancouver dj/ producer or artist take off internationally - as there's a lot more going on musically in our beautiful city beyond the horror that is Nickelback and the blandness of Bryan Adams!
Siavash Ashrafinia is Vancouver DJ/ producer Siavash - he's just released a new remix of SBTRKT's 'Hold On' online this weekend - and it's already cracked the top 10 on The Hype Machine! http://hypem.com/#!/popular
London's otherwise anyonymous SBTRKT released his self titled (as it were) debut album in June. A number of singles have been released from the album already - but the standout track 'Hold On' that features vocals from Sampha isn't one of them just yet. Siavash's new remix will be released physically on a while label 12" on November 22nd - but if this remix is to your liking you can download it for free on Soundcloud now courtesy of Siavash here: http://soundcloud.com/djsiavash/cold (or simply click on the download arrow below)

SummersRadio™ New Music! Tone Depth & Anthony Attalla + Lutzenkirchen + Bonus Track!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Tone Depth & Anthony Attalla + Lutzenkirchen - 'Partuza'/ 'The Ness' It's time for a sexy party! If you're looking for some fine new techno tracks to enjoy on this Thanksgiving long weekend (here in Canada anyway!) - or even a regular weekend - Platform B once again delivers! Platform B is Lutzenkirchen's own label and it's purpose is to release EP's that feature not only a new Tobias Lutzenkirchen track - but also new tracks from his family of 'like-minded mates'.
The label has just released their latest numbered EP this week - appropriately titled '# 15'. As is usually the case it features four new tracks - and after a few listens I've chosen my two favorites to post. First we have the song 'Partuza' from Tone Depth & Anthony Attalla - now some songs sound like they would make a good soundtrack to you know - nudge nudge, wink wink... have sex to! And then there are a few songs where it sounds like people are actually doing it during the recording of the song as well (the Lil Louis classic 'French Kiss' comes to mind) - 'Partuza' - like 'French Kiss' - is both!
This is track three on the new Platform B EP '# 15' - 'Partuza' from Tone Depth & Anthony Attalla... Enjoy!
Lutzenkirchen's own track 'The Ness' is also a standout - and the opening track - on Planet B's new '# 15' EP - currently available exlcusively on Beatport:
http://www.beatport.com/#release/number-15/686046
Please note that if the ending sounds a titch abrupt here it's because this version is edited slightly - the full song is actually 7:38. 'The Ness' has a nice hypnotic build - but the song really hits it's stride - groove if you will - at about 2:30 in... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! Well if we're going to have a sexy party we may as well go all the way - as it were :) Here's the Louis Sims aka Lil Louis club classic from 1989 - the full length original version of 'French Kiss'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Phantogram!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Phantogram - 'Don't Move' Phantogram are releasing a brand new EP on November 1st! It's called 'Nightlife' and it will feature six new songs - their first new material since their debut album 'Eyelid Movies' was released in 2009 - and it's out on the Barsuk Records label.
The first new song - and second track from the 'Nightlife' EP - called 'Don't Move' has just been released online. I actually remember the band performing this song live when they opened for LCD Soundsystem way back in the spring of 2010! This is 'Don't Move'... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! Although SummersRadio™ featured this 'RAC Mix' of their underground hit 'When I'm Small' earlier this year I thought it was worth reposting as it's still available as a free download on Soundcloud courtesy of the Remix Artist Collective here:

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Duchess Leo!
SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Duchess Leo - 'The Tracks Of My Tears' Brooklyn's indie/ folk/ pop/ electronic duo Duchess Leo have just released a new five track EP online this week! It's called 'These For Those: Volume 1' and it's the first to come of a free two EP set available from Whale Heart Records.
The 'These For Those: Volume 1' EP is a collection of songs recorded between their self-titled debut EP in 2009 and their debut album 'Golden Gray' which was released this January. I highly suspect that I'll be giving this song a full repost when it comes time to unveil my Best Of 2011 lists - but in the meantime you can check out/ revisit their gorgeous single 'Your Sweet Love' from 'Golden Gray' here:
http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/01/summersradio-new-music-duchess-leo_31.html
The opening track on the new 'These For Those: Volume 1' EP is a cover of the Smokey Robinson & The Miracles classic 'The Tracks Of My Tears' - released on Motown in 1965. 'The Tracks Of My Tears' is the most covered Smokey Robinson & The Miracles song - and Billy Bragg, Dolly Parton, Bryan Ferry and UB40 are just a few on a long list of diverse artists who've also recorded it. While clearly a song about being broken hearted, the original song sounds rather cheerful really - whereas Duchess Leo go for a more crestfallen take.
The song begins starkly with just acoustic guitar and organ - then the electric guitar elevates the sadness to cries of frustration - which is soon soothed with some lovely strings - and I always enjoy some well placed strings :) and sparkly xylophone sounds. If Duchess Leo's version of 'The Tracks Of My Tears' is to your liking you can download it by clicking the arrow below - or even better you can also download the full five song 'These For Those: Volume 1' EP for free from their bandcamp page here: http://duchessleo.bandcamp.com/track/the-tracks-of-my-tears-2
or from their label Whale Heart Records here:

SummersRadio™ Music News + Rare Remix + Classic! Kate Bush!
SummersRadio™ Music News + Rare Remix + Classic! Kate Bush - 50 Words For Snow video teaser/ Rubberband Girl (U.S. Mix)/ Utah Saints - 'Something Good' (Original 12" Mix) Kate Bush is releasing a brand new studio album - her tenth - called '50 Words For Snow' next month! '50 Words For Snow' has a few different release dates in various parts of the world - it's out November 18th in Australia, the 21st in the U.K. and Europe, and the 29th here in North America - on her own Fish People label.
The album features only seven tracks, but it is a full length album - the songs range in length from just under seven minutes to just under 14 - for a total time of 65:29. This is the tracklisting complete with song times:
50 Words For Snow
1. 'Snowflake' (9:55)
2. 'Lake Tahoe' (11:26)
3. 'Misty' (13:49)
4. 'Wild Man' (7:03)
5. 'Snowed In At Wheeler Street' (8:11)
6. '50 Words For Snow' (8:10)
7. 'Among Angels' (6:55)
And here's the cover art:
The first single will be 'Wild Man' and it's set for release next week. It's not available for sharing yet, but a number of fans have made 'teaser videos' in anticipation of the album's release - here's one of the better ones...
This is a quite rare dance remix of Kate Bush's single 'Rubberband Girl' by Eric Kupper - the 'U.S. Mix' - which was released as the b-side to her 1994 single 'And So Is Love' - Enjoy...
You can also check out/ revisit my all time favorite Kate Bush remix - the ultra rare white label 'Kick Inside Remix' of her 2005 single 'King Of The Mountain' here:
http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/04/summersradio-rare-remix-kate-bush.html
Classic/ Bonus Track! Utah Saints had a massive hit in 1992 (and again in 2008 when it was re-released with new mixes) with 'Something Good' - a song based around a vocal sample from Kate Bush's 1985 single 'Cloudbusting'. I like this particular fan made video edit as it features the original Utah Saints 12" mix coupled with video footage from Kate's superb original video for 'Cloudbusting' (click the youtube link)... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Video! Girls!
SummersRadio™ New Video! Girls - 'Honey Bunny' San Fransico's Girls are performing in Vancouver tonight at the Biltmore - and I can't wait to bask in the glow of 'Vomit' live! If you haven't seen the fantastic video for 'Vomit' yet - the first single released from their new album 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost' - I highly recommend doing so - you can check it out/ revisit it here:
http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/08/summersradio-new-video-girls.html
Girls have released a second video from the album - for their catchy new single 'Honey Bunny'. While the song's theme is similar - looking for love - this is a more lighthearted take on the subject - both lyrically and sonically. Singer Christopher Owens pokes fun at himself and his struggle with drugs with lines like 'They don't like my boney body/ They don't like my dirty hair/ Or the stuff that I say/ Or the stuff that I'm on' - but he has fun in the process. He's quite the seducer here - and he's clearly too sexy for a full length shirt!
'Honey Bunny' is officially released as a single next week - both digitally and on a limited 7" - this is the new Girls video for 'Honey Bunny'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Caravan Palace!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Caravan Palace - 'Clash' (Jupiter Remix) Caravan Palace are releasing their new EP called 'Clash' today! Caravan Palace are a six piece band from Paris that met after three of the band members were hired to provide soundtracks for porno films!
They released their self titled debut album in 2008 - the follow up album isn't due until next year, but their new 'Clash' EP - which features two new songs and four remixes - is out today. (technically in a few minutes - at midnight - the 3rd!) :)
Their debut album was generally described as electroswing (a fusion of swing and house music) - as is the the original mix of 'Clash' - however this particular remix is pretty much full on funky disco electro house. This is the 'Jupiter Remix' of the title track - and it is without question the most sublimely funky new track I have heard in some time... Enjoy!
Please note that the picture above is actually of the song's remixers Jupiter. Here's a lovely photo of Caravan Palace on stage - from their Facebook page which you can check out here: http://www.facebook.com/CaravanPalace?ref=ts#!/CaravanPalace
Here's a look at the awesome cover art for the 'Clash' EP:
