SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular Continues! Savage Progress - 'My Soul Unwraps Tonight' (12" Extended Version) So if we are honest enough to accept our own immortality, then it's only natural to wonder what becomes of us when our physical self dies. To quote C.S. Lewis 'You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body' - so where does this soul go afterwards? Why wait until you're dead to find out - perhaps Halloween is a good time to take your soul out for a test drive as it were!
London's Savage Progress were together for less than three years between 1982 and 1985 - 'My Soul Unwraps Tonight' became an underground hit in 1984. I think it suits Halloween as it speaks of souls - but it also has an interesting, almost other worldy feel to the music. The song was written by bass player/ vocalist Rik Kenton - a former member of Roxy Music.
'My Soul Unwraps Tonight' has a bit of a reggae feel - truth be told I originally mistyped Halloweed instead of Halloween earlier in this post - an idea for a new sub-holiday perhaps? :) This song itself is rare - but here's the even rarer '12" Extended Version' of 'My Soul Unwraps Tonight'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular Continues! Yoko Ono!
SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular Continues! Yoko Ono & The Brother Brothers - 'Yes, I'm A Witch' Few people are as loved and loathed at the same time as Yoko Ono. 'Yes, I'm A Witch' is a track from an album called 'A Story' which was recorded in 1974 - but it didn't get a proper release until 1997. Then in 2007 the song was included on - and served as the title for - a remix album where artists such as Peaches, The Flaming Lips, Le Tigre and Spiritualized were invited to cover or remix the Yoko Ono song of their choosing!
While Yoko's playing up to some of her haters in the lyrics of this song - I also like how she stands up for herself and the outsider and underdog in all of us - by pointing out the importance of being true to ourselves. To quote a few lines:
'Were gonna say,
Were gonna try,
Were gonna try it our way.
Weve been repressed,
Weve been depressed,
Suppression all the way.
Were not gonna die for you,
Were not seeking vengeance,
But were not gonna kill ourselves for your convenience.'
This is Yoko Ono & The Brother Brothers with the amped up 2007 version of 'Yes, I'm A Witch'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Presents... STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular!
SummersRadio™ Presents... STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular! Mazzy Star - 'Into Dust' Darkness falls. And so it begins - our second annual STARTLEFEST - 2011 Edition! This is our tip of the hat to Halloween where we feature songs beyond the typical 'Thriller's and 'Ghostbusters' you'll being hearing everywhere else.
We begin by following Mazzy Star's brand new 'Common Burn' single (posted at the common burning time of 4:20 no less!) with another Mazzy Star song that was never released as a single - but it's managed to chart several times in recent years nonetheless.
'Into Dust' is the ninth track on Mazzy Star's beautiful 1993 album 'So Tonight That I Might See'. It first charted in the U.K. in 2009 after being used in a Virgin Mobile commercial - and then it charted again this year after being used in commercials for the 'Gears Of War 3' videogame.
As it was never a proper single there's no official video for the song, but as is common with great songs, a number of fans have made their own. I like this one in particular as it suits the acoustic sparseness of the song - featuring some great photographs from a cemetery. Truth be told, the odds are pretty good that we'll all end up buried underground or set on fire at some point - reducing us all to dust in the end. That's a bit scary isn't it? Behold the frightening stillness of Mazzy Star's 'Into Dust'... Enjoy!
