'How Soon Is Now' was first released as the b-side of 'William, It Was Really Nothing' in 1984. After becoming a club and alternative radio hit in the U.S. it was added to the North American version of their 'Meat Is Murder' album, and it was later released as a proper single in the U.K. in 1985 - reaching #24. Although it wasn't one of their most successful singles chart wise, it's perhaps their most instantly reconizable song - particularly for Johnny Marr's opening guitar sound. This is the rather rare extended 'Manchester Mix' of 'How Soon Is Now?'... Enjoy!

I'm sure I first heard 'How Soon Is Now' on COAST 1040, the Spirit of Radio! But I don't remember ever hearing this cool mix!
ReplyDeleteI just looked at my copy of the 2008 Smiths Singles Box. The 12 singles are *almost* the same as the first 12 singles in your list above. But the 2008 box contains Still Ill b/w You've Got Everything Now which is not in the Deluxe Collectors BoxSet. But the Singles Box leaves out Reel Around the Fountain b/w Jeanne. So ... you just have to buy them both ... if you're a *true* fan !
