SummersRadio™ New Music + 2 Bonus Tracks! Black Asteroid! 2 Frenchmen! Afrika Bambaata Featuring Gary Numan!

SummersRadio™ New Music + 2 Bonus Tracks!

Black Asteroid - 'Metal' (Original Mix)/ 2 Frenchmen - 'Black Planet' (Save The Planet Mix)/ Afrika Bambaata Featuring Gary Numan - 'Metal'

Black Asteroid have just released a new EP called 'Metal'! New York's Bryan Black is half of the duo Motor and aka Black Asteroid on his solo releases. His new EP features four tracks - the title song plus two remixes as well as a song called 'Turbine'. It's released on the Electric Deluxe label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/metal/1268825

'Metal' is a hypnotic industrial/ techno hybrid that has potential to become a classic track... Enjoy!

Classic Bonus Track! 'Metal' reminded me of this classic rave tune from 1991 - 2 Frenchman's 'Black Planet' - which samples another classic - The B-52's new wave single from 1979 'Planet Claire'. This is the 'Save The Planet Mix'... Enjoy!

More 'Metal'! Black Asteroid's 'Metal' track also reminded me of another new wave classic with the same name from Gary Numan - which was the b-side to his 1979 single 'Cars' in North America. This nicely produced version is from Afrika Bambaata's 2004 album 'Dark Matter: Moving At The Speed Of Light' that features Numan himself as well as MC Chatterbox - who nicks Blondie... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix + Bonus Track! Gary Numan!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix + Bonus Track! Gary Numan - 'Are Friends Electric?' (Pure Salvation Extended Mix)/ 'Love Hurt Bleed'

Electronic music pioneer Gary Numan is performing in Toronto tonight at The Phoenix! This is a special week as there are not just one but two legendary electronic artists in town as Kraftwerk will also be here on Saturday.

Numan arrives on his 'Splinter Tour' as he supports his latest album 'Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind)' - his twentieth album overall - which was released in October on Mortal Records. You can check out other upcoming tour dates here: http://www.garynuman.com/2014/

To celebrate tonight's show I was searching for rare remixes and I found a perfect one on Youtube for Numan and Tubeway Army's classic song 'Are Friends Electric?'. There are no fancy bells and whistles in this one - a Numan fan has simply - and seamlessly - extended the original song to eleven and a half minutes in length!

'Are Friends Electric' was first released on the Tubeway Army (later changed to 'Gary Numan + Tubeway Army') album 'Replicas' in 1979 - and the single reached number one in the U.K. charts that summer.

Aside from the incredible atmospheric synth sounds and production part of what makes this song so great are the heartfelt lyrics:

It's cold outside
And the paint's peeling off of my walls
There's a man outside
In a long coat, grey hat, smoking a cigarette

Now the light fades out
And I'm wondering what I'm doing in a room like this
There's a knock on the door
And just for a second I thought I remembered you

So now I'm alone
Now I can think for myself
About little deals and S.U.S.
And things that I just don't understand
Like a white lie that night
Or a slight touch at times
I don't think it meant anything to you

So I open the door
It's the friend that I left in the hallway
"Please sit down."
A candle lit a shadow on a wall near the bed

You know I hate to ask
But are friends electric?
Only mine's broke down
And now I've no one to love

So I find out your reason
For the phone calls and smiles
And it hurts and I'm lonely
And I should never have tried
And I missed you tonight
So it's time to leave
You see it meant everything to me

This is the 'Pure Salvation Extended Mix' of 'Are Friends Electric?'... Enjoy!

Bonus Track! 'Love Hurt Bleed' is a single from his latest album 'Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind') showcasing a harder edged sound that has resulted in his highest charting album in thirty years... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Motor featuring Martin L. Gore!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Motor featuring Martin L. Gore - 'Man Made Machine' (official video)/ (Black Asteroid Remix) Motor have just released their new single - and it features the vocals of Depeche Mode's Martin L. Gore! Motor are a London based duo consisting of France's OlyMotor, and Bryan Black who is from the U.S. Although primarily a techno act, they're new album (their fourth) is going to be a bit different, as it will be a vocal driven electronic album. Besides Martin L. Gore the album will also feature the vocals of another electronic legend - Gary Numan - as well as Douglas McCarthy (Nitzer Ebb), and Billy Ray Martin (Electribe 101) among others.

'Man Made Machine' is the first official single and video from the as yet untitled forthcoming new album - and it's been released as a four track EP which is currently available exclusively on Beatport. http://www.beatport.com/#release/man-made-machine-ep/847683

The EP features the 'Original Extended Mix', plus remixes from Radio Slave, Chris Liebing, and Black Asteroid (an alias of Motor themselves). First up we have the official video - which is an edited version of the original. Not surprisingly the track sounds rather like Depeche Mode (particularly their hit 'Personal Jesus') as any vaguely electronic song featuring Gore on vocals will. (If you didn't catch the post on Martin Gore's new project VCMG with Vince Clarke earlier this month you can do so here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/12/summersradio-new-music-vcmg-vince.html)

Martin sounds a bit different than usual here though - he's singing deeper which gives the song a darker feel - this is the official video for Motor's new single 'Man Made Machine'... Enjoy!

This is the 'Black Asteroid Remix' of 'Man Made Machine'... Enjoy!
