The Cure have released a new cover of The Beatles 'Hello, Goodbye' online! 'Hello, Goodbye' is the first single from a new compilation called 'The Art Of McCartney' which features well known artists covering Paul McCartney compositions spanning his entire career with The Beatles, Wings, and his solo work. It's released on November 18th on Columbia Records.
The tribute album features artists including Chrissie Hynde, Billy Joel, Brian Wilson, Jeff Lynne, Heart, Ian McCulloch, Alice Cooper and Rodger Daltry - there are 34 tracks in all plus eight bonus tracks. SummersRadio™ Classic Mashup! Nine Inch Nails vs The Beatles - 'Come Closer Together' (DJ Zebra Bootleg)/ Wings - 'Hi Hi Hi'
In just one hour I shall be leaving to see a legend perform at B.C. Place - Sir Paul McCartney! He's only played in Vancouver once previously - the first time that The Beatles played in Canada almost 50 years ago - on August 22nd, 1964 at the Empire Stadium. Their set lasted less than half an hour but tonight's show is rumoured to be close to three hours long!
This flawless bootleg of Nine Inch Nails 1994 single 'Closer' vs The Beatles 1969 single 'Come Together' first appeared around 2004. It was created by Paris's DJ Zebra (http://www.zebramix.fr/category/musique/) who's recorded over 500 mashups since 2001... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! I commend McCartney for supporting the legalization of marijuana over the years. He's had several well publicized run ins with the law for possession - after spending ten days in a Tokyo jail in 1980 he was quoted as saying "cannabis is ... less harmful than rum punch, whiskey, nicotine and glue, all of which are perfectly legal" and in 1997 he said "People are smoking pot anyway and to make them criminals is wrong".
I think it's a bit of an embarrassment that two U.S. states (Washington and Colorado) recently legalized it for recreational use before British Columbia has - but our time will come soon enough.
'Hi Hi Hi' was released with Wings in 1972 - and I reckon the opening line 'Well when I met you at the station you were standing with a bootleg in your hand' fits well with the track above... Enjoy!

Today's post has been inspired by two things - Remembrance Day - and a headline from today's NME online: "Yoko Ono Thanks Paul McCartney For Saying She Didn't Split Up The Beatles" http://www.nme.com/news/yoko-ono/67120
The peace achieved between Ono and McCartney provides symbolic hope for peace between nations - even those who've been at odds for decades. For 42 years some humans have continued to blame Yoko (and some fools still will) but they're wrong - the truth is out now.
As such a great promoter of peace and as a fan of Yoko's music as well http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2012/02/summersradio-new-music-remixes-yoko-ono.html (and the all artists involved here) I think that this is an important acknowledgement.
