SummersRadio™ New Music! Kaskade!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Kaskade featuring Mindy Gledhill - 'Eyes' (Extended Mix) San Francisco based artist/ dj/ producer Ryan Raddon aka Kaskade has just released his latest single called 'Eyes' this week! 'Eyes' is the title track from his forthcoming seventh studio album (not counting his mixed compilations) and the follow up to last year's 'Dynasty' and 'Dynasty (Extended Versions)' releases.

What sets this and many of Kaskade's tracks apart from a lot of generic sounding female vocal house tracks are the singers that he chooses to work with. As is the case with his two most recent singles 'All That You Give' and 'Callout', 'Eyes' features the vocals of Mindy Gledhill - who provides a both sweet and sincere delivery.

Mindy Gledhill has released three solo albums - her first was a Christian/ gospel album called 'Sum Of All Grace' which came out in 2004, followed by the more pop friendly 'Feather In The Wind' in 2007 and her most recent album 'Anchor' came out last summer. If you'd like to learn more about Mindy check out her official website here: http://www.mindygledhill.com/

'Eyes' is currently available exclusively on Beatport https://flash.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/home/detail/1/beatport#app=c390&a486-index=12 - it was just released on Tuesday and in just three days it's already entered the top 10 of their top 100! This is the 'Extended Mix' (the only mix released thus far) of 'Eyes' from Kaskade featuring Mindy Gledhill... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Peaches! (DJ Set)

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Peaches - 'I Feel Cream' (Proxy Remix)/ R.E.M. featuring Peaches - 'Alligator_Aviator_Autopilot_Antimatter' Just announced - Peaches is performing at DJ set at Venue on September 3rd! Tickets are available now through Ticketweb: http://www.ticketweb.ca/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=3830335

While I generally wouldn't post about a dj set for an artist who also performs live - Peaches is pretty cool - and it gives me a perfect reason to feature one of my favorite remixes of recent years! 'I Feel Cream' is the title track - and was the third single released from - Peaches most recent album which came out in 2009. Peaches' vocals on 'I Feel Cream' are wonderfully sweet and sexy - and the production on this 'Proxy Remix' is nothing short of amazing - an electro 'I Feel Love' for the new millenium... Enjoy!

Earlier this year Peaches provided vocals on a track on R.E.M.'s latest album. She sings on 'Alligator_Aviator_Autopilot_Antimatter' - which is the ninth track on R.E.M. 's 15th (!) studio album called 'Collapse Into Now' which was released in March of this year. It's a fine upbeat track - in contrast to most of the sleepy offerings featured on some of R.E.M.'s previous more recent releases. Although it wasn't released as a single, R.E.M. decided to do a few things a bit differently this time around - including making videos for all 12 songs on the album. Peaches is featured in the video as well - this is 'Alligator_Aviator_Autopilot_Antimatter' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Microtrauma!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Microtrauma - 'Emilia' (Ambient Rework)/ 'Circulate' (Mononoid Remix) Microtrauma are a duo from Chemnitz Germany that have just released a new EP called 'Emilia'! The EP is released on the Cologne based Traum Schallplatten label and it features six tracks - four remixes of 'Circulate', a song called 'Outcry', and this version of the title track. This is the 'Ambient Rework' of the title track - a beautiful instrumental called 'Emilia'... Enjoy!

Microtrauma - Emilia (Ambient Rework) // Traum Schallplatten by Microtrauma

The other songs/ remixes on the 'Emilia' EP are perhaps best described by Microtrauma themselves on their Soundcloud page - as melodic techno. This is my favorite of the four remixes of 'Circulate' thus far - the graphic of a highway is most appropriate as this would make for a great driving song! This is the 'Mononoid Remix' of 'Circulate'... Enjoy!

'How Soon Is Now' was first released as the b-side of 'William, It Was Really Nothing' in 1984. After becoming a club and alternative radio hit in the U.S. it was added to the North American version of their 'Meat Is Murder' album, and it was later released as a proper single in the U.K. in 1985 - reaching #24. Although it wasn't one of their most successful singles chart wise, it's perhaps their most instantly reconizable song - particularly for Johnny Marr's opening guitar sound. This is the rather rare extended 'Manchester Mix' of 'How Soon Is Now?'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Music News! The Smiths! Part 1!

SummersRadio™ Music News! The Smiths - 'Paint A Vulgar Picture' Rhino Records in the U.K. has just announced that they're releasing three new limited edition Smiths boxed sets in October! The compilation is appropriately titled 'The Smiths Complete' and is released in the U.K. on October 3rd. It comes in three formats - a vinyl boxed set, a cd set, and a 'Deluxe Collector's Boxset' which combines both the vinyl and cd editions plus some more goodies.

Before I delve into further details I'm instantly reminded of one of my favorite Smiths songs - 'Paint A Vulgar Picture' from their 'Strangeways, Here We Come' album - which was their fourth and final studio album released in 1987. If you're not familiar the song it's a brilliant, brutally honest look at the music industry and how it keeps 'dead stars' alive. While all the members of The Smiths are alive and well - as is their music and it's influence - the fact is that the band hasn't recorded or performed together for 24 years! But then it is the music itself - and their fans - with some help from the record companies - that keeps them alive.

Allow me to quote a few lyrics from 'Paint A Vulgar Picture'...

"Re-issue ! Re-package ! Re-package !
Re-evaluate the songs
Double-pack with a photograph
Extra Track (and a tacky badge)"...

"Best of ! Most of !
Satiate the need
Slip them into different sleeves !
Buy both, and feel deceived"

And here is the full song in all its ironic glory - featuring a fan video collection of photographs. I love it when Morrissey croaks about 5:05 in... Enjoy!

And now onto the details of those boxed sets released on October 3rd - here's a blurb about their general contents:

'Rhino Records UK is proud to present ‘Complete’, eight albums by The Smiths lovingly reworked by Johnny Marr and Rhino UK and packaged together for the first time - the ultimate The Smiths remasters collection.

The collection includes all four of the band's studio albums – ‘The Smiths’ (1984), ‘Meat Is Murder’ (1985), ‘The Queen Is Dead’ (1986), ‘Strangeways, Here We Come’ (1987) and their sole live album ‘Rank’ (1988) as well as firm fan favourite compilations ‘Hatful Of Hollow’ (1984), ‘The World Won’t Listen’ (1987) and ‘Louder Than Bombs’ (1987). Each has been taken back to original tape sources and remastered by master-engineer Frank Arkwright, assisted by Johnny Marr at the world famous Metropolis Studios in London.'

This is the cover art:

This is what's included in the limited edtion vinyl boxed set version of 'The Smiths Complete':

And here's what you get in the limited edition cd boxed set:

SummersRadio™ New Video! Girls - 'Vomit' Yeah I know I just posted this song two weeks ago, but now it has a video - and it's really good! SummersRadio™ New Music! Neon Indian!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Neon Indian - 'Polish Girl'/ 'Fallout' Texas chillwave band Neon Indian are set to release their second studio album called 'Era Extraña' on September 13th! 'Era Extraña' is the follow up to their 2009 debut 'Psychic Chasms' (and 2010's subsequent remix album called 'Mind Ctrl: Psychic Chasms Possessed') and it will be released on songwriter/ main man Alan Palomo's own Static Tongues label.

'Era Extraña' will feature 13 new songs - two of which have surfaced on the interweb this week - first we shall begin with the second track on the album called 'Polish Girl'. This is the more chillwave/ poppier sounding track of the two... Enjoy!

And this is track six on Neon Indian's forthcoming new album - called 'Fallout'. Out of these two songs I'm finding this one more to my liking. It starts out with keyboards akin to Tangerine Dream - and then the vocal delivery resembles the vibe of one of the Jesus & Mary Chain's slower, more mellow tunes... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Boys Noize & Erol Alkan featuring Jarvis Cocker!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Boys Noize & Erol Alkan featuring Jarvis Cocker - 'Avalanche (Terminal Velocity)' Well this is quite the collaboration - Germany's Alexander Ridha aka Boys Noize, London's Erol Alkan, and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker are three very talented musical gentlemen - so perhaps not surprisingly this is a uniquely powerful track - there is nothing else quite like it!

'Avalanche' began it's existence as an instrumental track by Boys Noize & Erol Alkan that was released as a single in April of last year. This new recording features the vocals of Jarvis Cocker and has been slighty renamed 'Avalanche (Terminal Velocity)'.

I've enjoyed Jarvis's forays into electronic music in recent years - including recording two songs with Air on their 2007 album 'Pocket Symphony' - and more recently last year's collaboration with Discodeine, which you can revist here:
http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-new-music-discodeine-feat.html

This is 'Avalanche (Terminal Velocity)'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Phunk Investigation!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Phunk Investigation - 'Opera' (Original Mix)/ 'Guru' (Original Mix) Phunk Investigation are a dj/ production duo - Dino and Stef - that formed in Italy in 2000. They've just releaased their latest EP called 'Synapse' this week! 'Synapse' features three different songs - 'Guru', 'Lo-Fi' and 'Opera' and is released on the BluFin label. It's currently available exclusively on Beatport here: (I just bought a copy!)  :)
https://flash.beatport.com/enUS/html/content/home/detail/1/beatport#app=60e2&a486-index

All three tracks are filled with sweet sweet techno goodness so I'm posting a couple - starting with track 3 - 'Opera' - and I reckon this is one fine production... Enjoy!

I realized when I first listened to this song that it had been a while since I've posted a track with some upfront cowbell. We need more cowbell!! And here it is via the first track on the new 'Synapse EP' from Phunk Investigation called 'Guru' (please note that this is an edited version - the full song is 7:48 - so there's actually about three more minutes of awesomeness)... Enjoy!
