Glasgow's Slam have certainly been prolific lately - it seems like they're releasing a new single or a remix every other week! This week we have a new EP called 'Vespula' released on Sweden's Drumcode label. The song 'Vespula' is a massive techno stomper that also features some cool artwork that's equally trippy and creepy. I double dare you to stare into the insect creature's ginormous yellow eyes for the full eight minutes... Enjoy!

After posting the latest remix from Jacques Lu Cont aka Stuart Price I thought I'd post one of my favourite old school remixes he's done - this one under his Thin White Duke moniker. Starsailor released 'Four To The Floor' as the third single from their second album called 'Silence Is easy' in 2004. For many years only an edited version of this remix was available physically, but this full 8:12 version is now available digitally on itunes... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! John Dahlback - 'Take This Thing Back' (Jacques Lu Cont Remix)
From about 2002 to 2006 Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont (best aka the Thin White Duke during that period) was one of my most favorite producers/ remixers. However in more recent years it seemed to me that he'd just run out of ideas and simply started recycling his own formula over and over. His latest remix out this week is of John Dahlback's new single 'Take This Thing Back' - the 50th release on Chris Lake's Rising Music label - and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/take-this-thing-back/913179
I'm happy to say that this is a surprisingly amazing remix - although it does rip off one of his own previous productions as per usual - the disco basslines of his underrated one off 2003 single as Man With Guitar in this case. However as the song progresses he wisely forgoes the mainstream dubstep and electro synths parts of the original, and instead turns the vocal hook into a Daft Punk 'the fun back in the funk' style loop and surprisingly leads the song into acid techno territory. Then just when you think you know what's going on the fire alarm goes off! :)

SummersRadio™ New Music! Metric - 'Speed The Collapse'
Metric have just released another new song from their forthcoming album online today! Metric release their fifth studio album called 'Synthetica' on June 12th and while not an official single 'Speed The Collapse' has been released online today as a sneak preview. 'Synthetica' is available for pre-order now on itunes - featuring five bonus track songs called 'Reflections'. It will also be available physically on cd, on numbered limited double coloured white vinyl from their official website (http://ilovemetric.com/) and there's even a super limited 'Stereobox' version (which sadly has already sold out) that features a custom made 3D viewer.
The band are currently shooting a video for 'Youth Without Youth' and they posted this great photo of singer Emily Haines from the session looking rather intense on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/metric) earlier today:
For now the band have released another lyric video for the sneak peak of 'Speed The Collapse' - one of eleven songs on the new album - which also features a collaboration with the artist who wrote yesterday's featured song 'I'll Be Your Mirror' - the Velvet Underground's Lou Reed on a track called 'The Wanderlust'!

YACHT have released a cover of the Velvet Underground & Nico classic 'I'll Be Your Mirror'! The band just posted this 'new beat' cover on Soundcloud yesterday - but it was actually released as the b-side song on their new six track EP for their latest single (also a cover) 'Le Goudron' - which is released on DFA Records, and is available on itunes.
This a respectful electronic cover featuring minimal synths and lovely harmonies that echo the beauty of Nico's original performance... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Whitey!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Whitey - 'Saturday Night Ate Our Lives'/ 'Civilizashun/ Nobody Made The Monster'/ 'See You Next Time'
London's Nathan White aka Whitey has just released his new album online called 'Lost Summer'! The album features nine tracks and he's decided to release it independently on his Bandcamp page here: http://njwhitey.bandcamp.com/album/lost-summer-new-album
Whitey aptly describes the album as 'The future colliding with the past' - and it's an interesting mix of indie rock, experimental electronica, and eighties synth pop and new wave. 'Lost Summer' has a great flow and feel to it from start to finish. You can listen to the entire album from the link above but I've chosen to feature my three initial favorite tracks upon first listen.
The fourth track 'Saturday Night Ate Our Lives' seems like an obvious choice for a single. It ponders ones thoughts following perhaps not just a another wild Saturday night out - but one (or more?) that may have been rather excessive. Yeah, I know that feeling :) Meanwhile the music itself is so upbeat and cheerful (including cowbell!) that I reckon it will (ironically?) soundtrack many a Saturday evening party this summer anyway - I know it will be at Club English Bay here in Vancouver (aka my apartment)... Enjoy!
This is the opening track on 'Lost Summer' - 'Civilizashun/ Nobody Made The Monster' and I must say that it's quite the grand introduction/ creation... Enjoy!
This album closer is called 'See You Next Time', and like the rest of the album it features some great reflective lyrics. I love the line 'If we can run through the night we can follow where the lost have gone'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Cover + Free Download! Rob Crow - '(Keep Feeling) Fascination'
It's the May (twofour) long weekend! Time for barbecues and camping - sun and fun... only Mother Nature seems to have other plans - for Vancouver at least. The skies could hardly be greyer and heavy with rain - so I've decided to post a bit of a seasonal cover of a classic uplifting tune today.
Now that barbecue season has theoretically arrived Kingsford has been advertising their slo-mo charcoal briquets again in a commercial that features a cover of The Human League's '(Keep Feeling) Fascination' by Pinback's Rob Crow. Crow strips the synth pop dance tune down and transforms it into a beautifully chilled and wonderfully produced acoustic based tune.
Strangely this fantastic cover does not seem to have been given an actual release so it's not available for sale anywhere - but you can find a free download of the tune here courtesy of the Singing Serpent blog: http://www.singingserpent.com/blog/2010/06/25/kingsford-charcoal-slo-mo/

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Donna Summer!
SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! Donna Summer - 'Grand Illusion' (CD Extended Edit)
LaDonna Adrian Gaines aka Donna Summer passed away earlier today after a lengthy battle with cancer. Known as the 'Queen Of Disco' in the seventies, her influence on dance music is immeasurable - may she rest in peace.
Rather than feature one of her many hits I've chosen a rare remix (naturally) of one of my favorite Donna Summer songs - one which was never even a single. 'Grand Illusion' is a track from her 1980 album 'The Wanderer' and it was actually released as the b-side to the title track. The song was written by Summer and Giorgio Moroder and produced by Moroder and Pete Bellotte.
'Grand Illusion' is impeccably produced and it creates it own atmosphere - it's best to listen to it in the dark to feel the full effect :) This 'CD Extended Edit' takes the original song from just under four minutes of hypnotic mysteriousness - to over nine minutes of bliss... Enjoy!
