SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gesaffelstein - 'Viol'/ 'Opr' France's Gessaffelstein has just released a new EP on Tiga's Turbo Recordings label today! It's called 'Conspiracy Part 2' - the follow up to Part 1 which was released in April.        It features three tracks - two of which I shall feature here.

I've become quite a fan of Gesaffelstein's work - and I've been trying to pinpoint what I like about the sounds on this EP in particular - and I think I've got it. The title seems fitting (moreso than on Part 1) as the songs have this mysterious - almost sci-fi kind of sound to them. It sounds like the future - but the future as seen through the eyes of some 1950's black and white movie where alien robots take over the world!

This first song is also the first track on the EP - it sounds a bit like Daft Punk, only spacier - this is 'Viol'... Enjoy!

This is the second track on the new 'Conspiracy Part 2' EP which is available on both itunes and Beatport as of today - if you dig these songs I suggest going with itunes on this one as it's $2.97 (vs $5.97) for the whole EP! This is 'Opr'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Radiohead!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes! Radiohead - 'Bloom' (Mark Pritchard Remix)/ (Harmonic 313 Remix)/ 'Morning Mr. Magpie' (Nathan Fake Remix) Radiohead released the latest in a series of 12" singles featuring all new remixes this weekend! This is the second 12"release in the series of vinyl only (thus far) remixes of tracks from their 'King Of Limbs' album. This one features two remixes of the song 'Bloom' and one of 'Morning Mr. Magpie'.

The band have also announced that all of the remixes will be made available on one cd -AFTER they've all been released digitally and on vinyl! So for your listening pleasure I present all three new remixes of Radiohead's most recent forays into experimental electronic music - first up is the 'Bloom' remix from Sydney's Mark Pritchard... Enjoy!

And this is Harmonic 313's remix of 'Bloom'. Like Mark Pritchard - Harmonic 313 also hails from Sydney - which is no coincidence, as it's actually an alais of his! While remixed by the same human, this version is much more cinematic... Enjoy!

And this is Nathan Fake's remix of 'Morning Mr. Magpie'. Unlike Harmonic 313, Norfolk's Nathan Fake uses his 'real' name... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Luigi Madonna!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Luigi Madonna - 'Reset' (edit) Luigi Madonna is a dj/ producer from Italy who started dj'ing at age 11 and was playing clubs at age 14! At age 19 he started working on his own productions (in 2004) and he's just released his latest single on the Rekluse label. It's a double A-side single called 'Reset'/ 'Collusion' - both are great tracks but 'Reset' is a bit more to my liking. Please note that this is an 'edit' to prevent leeches from converting it to an mp3 - the full length remix is 6:42 and available exclusively on Beatport... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes + Free Download! Belle And Sebastian!

SummersRadio™ New Remixes + Free Download! Belle And Sebastian - 'I Didn't See It Coming' (Cold Cave Remix/ Richard X Remix) Glasgow's Belle And Sebastian released 'I Didn't See It Coming' as the second single from their most recent album called 'Write About Love' last fall. The song is an indie pop duet between lead singer Stuart Murdoch and Sarah Martin - who plays guitar, keyboards, violin and provides backing vocals in the band - and there are two brand new remixes coming out later this month!

These remixes will be included on their new EP called 'Come On Sister' which is released on July 26th - on vinyl only! The 12" will include the title track remixed by Tony Doogan, the album version of 'Blue Eyes Of A Millionaire' and two remixes of 'I Didn't See It Coming' - one by Richard X and one from Cold Cave. You can pre-order the EP through their label Matador's store here: http://store.matadorrecords.com/come-on-sister or from the bands official website here: http://www.belleandsebastian.com/

If the 'Cold Cave Remix' below is to your liking Matador Records has made it available as a free download which you can get here: http://www.matadorrecords.com/mpeg/belle_and_sebastian/i_didnt_see_it_coming_cold_cave_remix.mp3

So first up we have the remix from Wes Eisold of Cold Cave - which is the more club friendly version of the two remixes. I really like Sarah Martin's vocals in this song - she sounds a bit like another Sarah - Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne... Enjoy!

This is the 'Richard X Remix' which also features a new animated video... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Warma!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Warma - 'Cocaine' (TrockenSaft Remix) Warma is a 'tech & warm house' artist from Kiew Ukraine. 'Cocaine' is his latest single from an EP called 'Dangerous Friend' - which features three versions of 'Cocaine' and a track called 'Melodrama'. It's released on the Russian label KDB Records - which is run by Pasha Joint and Andrey Mute. Pasha Joint is from Minsk in Belarus (which is between the Ukraine and Russia - I looked it up!) and he is aka one half of the duo TrockenSaft - who provide this great remix!

If this remix of Warm's 'Cocaine' is to your liking TrockenSaft have made an edited version available as a free download on Soundcloud which you can scoop up here:
http://soundcloud.com/trockensaft/warma-cocaine-trockensaft

This is the full length version of the 'TrockenSaft Remix' - which is available on both itunes and Beatport. Ok, now let's take stock on some of the apparent pro's and con's of 'Cocaine'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Portishead!

SummersRadio™ Concert News! Portishead - 'Chase The Tear'/ 'Sour Times' (Airbus Reconstruction)/ 'Teardrop On Roads' (Massive Attack vs Portishead) Well today we have quite the concert announcement - Portishead have just announced their first full North American tour in over a decade! They're covering Canada, the U.S. and Mexico - but only playing a total of 11 lucky cities - and Vancouver is one of them! They will be performing at the PNE Forum on Monday Oct 24th. Tickets go on sale this Friday - with pre-sales courtesy of 100.5 The Peak and the Georgia Straight happening on Thursday.

To celebrate this event I present three distinctly different Portishead tracks - first up we have their most recent recording - the rather electro 'Chase The Tear'. 'Chase The Tear' was released on December 9th, 2009 in support of Human Rights Day to raise money for Amnesty International in the U.K. This is a cool fan made video for the song... Enjoy!

This is a rather rare remix of 'Sour Times' called the 'Airbus Reconstruction' which was first released on the U.K. cd single - and then on the 'Glory Times' EP. The 'Glory Times' EP was a Canadian only release that combined the tracklistings for the 'Sour Times' and 'Glory Box' singles. It was released in 1995 - as a 'limited edition' cd - although it was strangely available for many years, it's now long out of print. I like this version because it sounds a bit like Beth Gibbons fronting the Pixies! This is the 'Airbus Reconstruction' of 'Sour Times'... Enjoy!

This next one is actually a repost - as I first posted it on January 2nd of this year (http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/01/summersradio-massive-attack-vs.html) but it's completely repostworthy as this great remix is still available as a free download!

This mashup by Austin's Jaya Prime brings two of Bristol's finest bands together - Portishead and Massive Attack. 'Teardrop On Roads' mixes 'Teardrop' (which features vocals by Elizabeth Fraser - former vocalist for the Cocteau Twins) and Portishead's 'Roads' together in one seamless piece of trip hop heaven. 'Teardrop' is a single from Massive Attack's 1998 release 'Mezzanine' and 'Roads' is a standout album track from Portishead's 1994 debut 'Dummy'. If this remix is to your liking you can download a copy here for free courtesy of Jaya Prime himself: http://soundcloud.com/jaya-prime/teardrop-on-roads Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Computer Magic!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Computer Magic - '(Just Like) Starting Over' Computer Magic is the solo project of Danielle - who goes by Danz - a 21 year old dj/ student who lives in Brooklyn. She started Computer Magic a year ago and so far she's recorded and posted 18 electronic pop songs on Soundcloud which you can check out here: http://soundcloud.com/computer-magic/tracks

This is her newest recording - a cover of John Lennon's '(Just Like) Starting Over' - the first single from his 'Double Fantasy' album with Yoko Ono, which was released in 1980. The production is not quite as elaborate at Lennon's of course, but I quite like Danz's voice. This is Computer Magic's cover of '(Just Like) Starting Over'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Bonus Disc! Grandaddy!

SummersRadio™ Bonus Disc! Grandaddy - 'What Can't Be Erased'/ 'XD-Data-II' Last month when I first reported news of a 'Deluxe Edition' of Grandaddy's 'The Sophtware Slump' album I mentioned that I would post more details when they became available - today I have the full tracklisting for disc two! The 'Deluxe Edition' is being released to celebrate the 11th Anniversary of the release of the album - which is 'better than 10' in singer Jason Lytle's words.

Disc 2:
1. He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot
2. Our Dying Brains
3. L.F.O.
4. Wives Of Farmers
5. Chartsengrafs
6. N. Blender
7. Wonder Why In L.A.
8. Air Conditioners in the Woods
9. Moe Bandy Mountaineers
10. First Movement / Message Sent
11. XD-Data-II
12. Beautiful Ground
13. Street Bunny
14. She Deleter
15. What Can't Be Erased (Drinking Beer In The Bank Of America With Two Chicks From Tempe Arizona)
16. I Don't Want To Record Anymore
17. Aisle Seat 37-D
18. Hewlett's Daughter
19. Rode My Bike To My Stepsister's Wedding

I fully admit that I'm a pretty massive Grandaddy fan - but there are several tracks here that even I don't have! The 19 track disc consists largely of b-sides, but also demos and 'other lost bits and pieces created around that same time.' 'What Can't Be Erased' previously appeared on the 'Through A Frosty Plate Glass' EP which was released in 2001. It contained six tracks that first appeared as b-sides on their European singles - and it was also included as the bonus disc in some 2cd versions of 'The Sophtware Slump'. Thus far the Deluxe Edition is only scheduled for release in Europe on August 22nd - you can pre-order it here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sophtware-Slump-Grandaddy/dp/B005687SLA/ref=dp_return_2?ie=UTF8&n=229816&s=music

This is the first of two of their spacier, somewhat ambient tracks from that long out of print EP that will now be included on the 'Deluxe Edition'. This is a fan made video for 'What Can't Be Erased'... Enjoy!

In other Grandaddy news the band is reissuing their first three albums - 'Under The Western Freeway', The Sophtware Slump' and 'Sumday' on vinyl in North America on July 19th. Also available is a boxed 'Collector's Edition' that contains all three albums, an exlcusively designed t-shirt - and a poster handmade by Jason! You can find out more information on these and other items from their new official website here: http://grandaddymusic.com/

Here's another track included on the 'Deluxe Edition' of 'The Sophtware Slump' called 'X-Data-II'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Video! MK12!

SummersRadio™ New Video! MK12 - 'Follow The Sun' And now for something completely different... this isn't a music video per say - although it is a take on the classic 'Let's All Go To The Lobby' song and video that's been used in theaters and drive-ins for decades. The original animated musical short was first released in 1953 to promote concession stand products and was made by Dave Fleischer - who also produced the Popeye cartoons.

MK12 is a design and filmmaking collective based in Kansas City Missouri. They formed in 2000 and tend to specialize in experimental and short films - often merging both new and old technologies. 'Follow The Sun' is a fine example of this - just as the nostalgic appeal of the animated food starts to wear off - the acid trip starts to kick in... Enjoy!
