SummersRadio™ New Remix! Late Nite Tuff Guy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Late Nite Tuff Guy - 'I Can Feel It' (LNTG Rework)
Cam Bianchetti aka Late Nite Tuff Guy is a dj/ producer (formerly known as HMC) from Australia who's just released a new rework of Phil Collins' 'In The Air Tonight' retitled 'I Can Feel It'! Wait a second... Phil Collins? Yes. I had a discussion with a friend today when I was pondering this post - the first question was 'Is Phil Collins cool'? We wholeheartedly agreed that he is not. Was he ever cool and/ or did he write some great songs? Perhaps and absolutely, respectively.

If I was to pinpoint where the shift took place I'd say it was in the mid-eighties - after the massive success of his third solo album 'No Jacket Required' and the Genesis album 'Invisible Touch' he aged quickly, and his music became watered down and bland ever so rapidly. But I for one cannot deny the unique atmosphere encapsulated in his debut solo single 'In The Air Tonight' - and the drum sound - amazing! It's a good song to space out to :)
So while I may cringe when I think of what Phil represents now, a good song is a good song, and a good remix is a good remix - and today's song is both! LNTG's rework extends the original - adds a bit more ambiance, some vocal effects, a kick drum - and he thankfully keeps the massive drum burst towards the end intact... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Lola Dutronic!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Lola Dutronic Featuring Stephanie B - 'Everybody Loves You When You're Dead'
Toronto duo Lola Dutronic have released a new video for their latest single 'Everybody Loves You When You're Dead'! 'Everybody Loves You When You're Dead' is from their new album (their fourth full length) called 'Everyone's A Star' which is released on the Red Star Digital Music label. The thirteen track album is available on itunes now and it will also see a physical release on cd on October 11th.

'Everybody Loves You When You're Dead' is a clever tune about rock and pop stars who die young - and how quickly their shortcomings are forgotten when they pass on. The lyrics - like all good comedy - are amusing because they're true. They make some great points - how most people didn't fawn over Nick Drake until years after he was gone, how Sid Vicious never managed to become a good bass player - and how a premature or unexpected death equals some of the artist's best chart placings of their careers.
What makes this song so instantly likeable - aside from the brutal honesty - is the sweetness of the vocals and the catchy chorus. Rarely does a song about death sound so uplifting! And the irony isn't lost on the band - as they even ponder the possibility that their own greatest fame may also be posthumous. The song features over a dozen guest backing vocalists including members of the Tom Tom Club and Gang Of Four.
The video features a montage of music stars who've left us - it's fun to see how many you can name - and I like the cheeky intro graphics... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stand Up Against Heart Crime!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Stand Up Against Heart Crime - 'I Need No Sun'/ 'Birth' (Live At Razzmatazz Club)
I reckon I've found the perfect song to post for the first day of fall in Vancouver... Stand Up Against Heart Crime have just released a new EP for their latest single 'I Need No Sun'! The brilliantly named Stand Up Against Heart Crime are an indie dream pop/ electronic band from Barcelona, Spain. They've released one single called 'Lost In Time And Space' and a self titled EP last year - both are available on Bandcamp here: http://standupagainstheartcrime.bandcamp.com/

'I Need No Sun' is the first single from their forthcoming debut full length album (date tba). The new 'I Need No Sun' EP features four tracks - the original plus three remixes - and it's available now on itunes. The remixes aren't available to share just yet (although I do recommend the 'Rho Remix') so we'll feature the original today. The song has a nice laid back Tangerine Dream vibe to it musically and I like the minimal lyrics - particularly the line 'I need no sun, I have my own'.
Their sound seems to have matured/ evolved rapidly. The production on this new song seems light years ahead of last year's releases - which were well produced - but I'd call this one expertly produced! I look forward to hearing their debut album - you can keep up with band on Facebook m'here: http://www.facebook.com/standupagainstheartcrime?ref=ts
Enjoy...!
This appears to be a new instrumental song called 'Birth' - recorded live this spring - which might provide us with some more insight into what their debut album will sound like. This song spikes my anticipation level - dare I say - sky high AND I also hope that they come to Vancouver someday soon as I'd love to see them live as well! 'Birth' is a perfect example of indie rock and electronic music (and I do love both) melding together flawlessly... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Ian McCulloch!
SummersRadio™ Classic Remix! Ian McCulloch - 'Lover, Lover, Lover' (Indian Dawn Remix)
Yesterday's fine rework of Leonard Cohen's 'By The Rivers Dark' reminded me of another excellent Leonard Cohen remix (this one a cover) from the vaults! In 1992 Echo & The Bunnymen's lead singer Ian McCulloch released his second solo album called 'Mysterio', that included a cover of 'Lover, Lover, Lover' from Cohen's fourth album - 1974's 'New Skin For The Old Ceremony'.
McCulloch's cover of 'Lover, Lover, Lover' was released as the second single from 'Mysterio' and the 12" and cd single featured two remixes by Mark 'Spike' Stent. The 'Indian Dawn Remix' is now available on the 'Candleland & 'Mysterio (Extended Editions)' on itunes. This remix transforms the song into a world music influenced dance track that still maintains the integrity of the original... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Oxia Featuring Miss Kittin - 'Housewife' (Miss Kittin's Wipeout Mix)
France's Olivier Raymond aka Oxia has just released a new remix EP for his single with Miss Kittin called 'Housewife'! 'Housewife' first appeared as a track from Oxia's second solo album called 'Tides Of Mind' which was released in May on the InFine label.
The new remix EP out this week includes six remixes and it's currently available exlcusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/housewife-feat-miss-kittin-remixes-ep/965587

I love Miss Kittin's vocals - she can make the most ordinary words sound interesting, seductive and fun! It's her own remix of the song in this package that's most to my liking here. She transforms the bass heavy housey original into a full on space disco adventure - this is 'Miss Kittin's Wipeout Mix' of 'Housewife'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Pet Shop Boys!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Pet Shop Boys - 'Memory Of The Future'
Pet Shop Boys have released their eleventh studio album called 'Elysium' this week! That's the good news. The bad news is that they've lost their irony! I couldn't stand the album's first single 'Winner' and I deemed it unpostworthy. I reckon that I'm not the only fan who felt that way as it debuted at #86 on the U.K. Singles Top 100 - and then vanished the very next week - far and away their worst chart placing for a lead single off of a proper album ever.
I'm waiting to hear the remixes of the next scheduled single 'Leaving' (released October 15th) before deciding on that one. How can the Ironic Duo write a song called 'Winner' without any irony in it anyway? Blasphemous!
As a lifelong fan I still love them overall, but they've lost their way here - for the first time they sound old. 'Elysium' is their first album recorded in America - and I beg them never to do so again. It was produced by Andrew Dawson in Los Angeles who's worked with Kanye West, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg (although you'd never guess from the lack of beats here) and 30 Seconds To Mars (!) to name a few - so he's to blame.
Some people are comparing the album to the brilliance of 'Behaviour' - perhaps simply because it's laid back - but on that album they sang about NOT being boring. 'Elysium' is no paradise (as the title suggests) it's just too lifeless - far too adult contemporary. It would be a good album to put on if you want to take a nap. I feel guilty saying that but it's a case of cruel to be kind. As a former music journalist surely Neil Tennant would want me to be honest here - not every artist's new album is their best ever - even though they're always promoted that way.
However I admit that I still need to give the album more time to grow on me, but I can't ever imagine listening to the album's eighth track 'Hold On' without cringing. There is one song that was to my liking immediately though - 'Memory Of The Future' - the tenth track on the album (perhaps because it's one of the few with a pulse). It's classic Pet Shop Boys - with it's gurgling synths, beautiful strings, disco hi-hats, and romantic but not sappy lyrics - I reckon it sounds like it could be track seven on 'Introspective'... Enjoy!

Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Scumfrog featuring Sting! Carl Cox!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! The Scumfrog featuring Sting - 'If I Ever Lose My Faith' (Carl Cox Remix)
Jesse Houk aka The Scumfrog has just released a new remake/ remix EP of Sting's 'If I Ever Lose My Faith'! The EP is billed as 'Scumfrog featuring Sting' as it samples the original vocals from Sting's 1993 hit of the same name from his 'Ten Summoner's Tales' album. The EP features five new remixes of the song and it's released on the Armada Music label.
This hypnotic remix from techno legend Carl Cox resembles the vibe of New Order's classic 'Blue Monday'... Enjoy!
