Electronic music pioneer Gary Numan is performing in Toronto tonight at The Phoenix! This is a special week as there are not just one but two legendary electronic artists in town as Kraftwerk will also be here on Saturday.

To celebrate tonight's show I was searching for rare remixes and I found a perfect one on Youtube for Numan and Tubeway Army's classic song 'Are Friends Electric?'. There are no fancy bells and whistles in this one - a Numan fan has simply - and seamlessly - extended the original song to eleven and a half minutes in length!
'Are Friends Electric' was first released on the Tubeway Army (later changed to 'Gary Numan + Tubeway Army') album 'Replicas' in 1979 - and the single reached number one in the U.K. charts that summer.
Aside from the incredible atmospheric synth sounds and production part of what makes this song so great are the heartfelt lyrics:
It's cold outside
And the paint's peeling off of my walls
There's a man outside
In a long coat, grey hat, smoking a cigarette
Now the light fades out
And I'm wondering what I'm doing in a room like this
There's a knock on the door
And just for a second I thought I remembered you

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix + Free Download! Iggy Pop - 'Nightclubbing' (Monoblok & Pslktr Edit)
I stumbled upon an excellent remix/ edit of Iggy Pop's 'Nightclubbing' earlier this week! 'Nightclubbing' was written by David Bowie and Iggy Pop and it was first released on Pop's 1977 album 'The Idiot'.
It reached a wider audience when it was included in the film and on the soundtrack for Trainspotting in 1996. It's also been covered (Grace Jones, Human League) and sampled (Nine Inch Nails, Oasis) by numerous artists.
This trippy remix/ edit by French duo Monoblok & Pslktr was released by their label Meant Records as part of their annual X-Mas present special edit series (which they release as a free download) in 2012. It's received over 3,000 plays on Soundcloud, but it's worthy of so many more so I thought I'd share it.

The French label Correspondant is releasing a new compilation (their second) next week! The label was born out of dj Jennifer Cardini's residency at Rex Club in Paris - which has been going for eight years.

'Let's Go To Bed' was released as a single by The Cure in 1982 and it later appeared on their 'Japanese Whispers' album. This is the cover art from the original 12" single:
This isn't a radical remix - it's basically the original 12" 'Extended Mix' with house beats added in just the right places - which is why it works so well.

Spilt Milk has just released a new EP online called 'Theories'! The Vancouver dj/ producer's latest EP features six tracks - and as a bonus he's decided to make it available as a free download!
Spilt Milk explains his inspiration for the EP on Soundcloud:
"The reason for these collection of songs is to bring awareness towards our personal ignorance of Canada and world's scientific truths. We continue use the money system as an excuse to destroy our world. In Canada, our conservative government has cancelled most government funded research that does not lead to profit. We also muzzle our scientists when they try to speak out against industries that poison our lands, waters, and our food supply.
We continue to poison ourselves with our own chemicals, GMO, and by using non-organic unnatural processes. We are in total awareness that we are just killing ourselves and every other plant and creature on this planet. If you think of the world as an entire whole organism, there is not a single person who would disagree with the fact that we are one very unhealthy and dying individual.
Its time regain awareness of our wholeness as one earth and stop using our own personal wealth as the excuse to ignore the truth.

Ben Watt has released a new solo song online called 'Spring'! Ben Watt is best known as being one half of Everything But The Girl - as well as being a dj and record label owner (Lazy Dog, Buzzin' Fly and Strange Feeling Records).
Watt previously released one solo album called 'North Marine Drive' way back in 1983 - 'Spring' is from his forthcoming second solo album called 'Hendra' which will be released on April 14th (U.K.)/ 29th (U.S.) on the Caroline International label.
Word around town is that just about everyone has had their fill of this year's brutally cold winter - and technically speaking spring officially begins in a mere three days. So let us bask in anticipation of spring's arrival with this lovely Beatlesque song... Enjoy!

Tame Impala have just released a new song online today - a cover of Michael Jackson's 'Stranger In Moscow'! So what is this - covers week?! Notable covers don't come along often - but here we are with our third in as many days.
Michael Jackson released 'Stranger In Moscow' in 1996 as the fifth single from his 'HIStory: Past, Present And Future, Book 1' album. I'm not a fan of the original song but Tame Impala make it their own - making it feel like less of a ballad and more like a dreamy psychedelic number.

French actress and singer Emmanuelle Seigner is releasing a new EP next week called 'You Think You're A Man'! 'You Think You're A Man' is a cover of Divine's 1984 underground club hit. The EP will feature two remixes - one by Yuksek and this one by Jean Tonique. Seigner - who's married to director Roman Polanski - is releasing the EP next week - March 17th on Universal.
Jean Tonique's remix of 'You Think You're A Man' is a full on disco/ funk makeover complete with Nile Rodgers style funky guitars and great strings... Enjoy!

Rory O'Neill aka Panti Bliss is an Irish drag entertainer and gay rights activist who gave a speech last month condemning homophobia in Ireland. His ten minute speech entitled 'Noble Call' soon went viral and the Pet Shop Boys have just added their own music to turn the speech into a dance song called 'The Best Gay Possible'.

YACHT has released a new remix of Mr Little Jeans 'Good Mistake' online! Monica Birkenes aka Mr Little Jeans is originally from Fiji but she's now based in Los Angeles.
The original version of 'Good Mistake' is the title track on a four track EP (available now on iTunes) and it will also appear on her debut album called 'Pocketknife' which is out on March 25th.
There's no word just yet on a release date for this 'YACHT Remix' - but I will update this when there is.

'Antiphon' is the band's first new album since the departure of songwriter/ vocalist Tim Smith - their guitarist Eric Pulido has now taken over vocal duties.
Moullinex did not intend to release this remix - he made it simply so he could play the track out. I have mixed feelings on Coldplay's original - it certainly seems like they've been listening to some Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk albums lately - which is awesome - I'm glad that their new material seems to be steering away from annoying, contrived hits. But then there's the presence of the evil autotune - although there are plenty of effects on it to keep it interesting.
