SummersRadio™ New Music! Cat Power & Coldplay - 'Wish I Was Here'
Cat Power and Coldplay have released a new song called 'Wish I Was Here'! 'Wish I Was Here' is the title track from the movie and soundtrack of the same name - the full soundtrack is released this Tuesday on Columbia Records and the movie opens in selected cities on July 18th.
The film is directed by Zach Braff (his second - following 2004's 'Garden State') and it was co-written with his brother Adam J. Braff. Zach Braff also stars in the film as a struggling actor trying to find his purpose in life. The soundtrack features sixteen songs and the title track is one of three songs that are available now (along with new songs from Bon Ivor and The Shins) on iTunes.
Chris Martin wrote the song and it was also his idea to feature a female lead vocalist on the track. Chan Marshall aka Cat Power's vocals fit the understated reflective ballad perfectly... Enjoy!
Christian Strobe has just released a new remix of Coldplay's new song 'Midnight' today! The German artist/ dj/ producer has wasted no time on this one as the original single was just released to the world on Monday.
I have mixed feelings on Coldplay's original - it certainly seems like they've been listening to some Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk albums lately - which is awesome - I'm glad that their new material seems to be steering away from annoying, contrived hits. But then there's the presence of the evil autotune - although there are plenty of effects on it to keep it interesting.
I like the hypnotic nature of the original and Christian Strobe manages to maintain this feel while pumping things up enough to make it dancefloor friendly - and if his remix is to your liking you can download a free copy simply by becoming a fan on Facebook here: https://soundcloud.com/christianstrobe/coldplay-midnight-Christian (or click on the download icon below)
This is the new 'Christian Strobe Remix' of Coldplay's 'Midnight'... Enjoy!
Coldplay have released a new song online - and I don't hate it! The band became a popular target for haters by the time their third album 'X & Y' came out in 2005 but that album is my personal favourite so I remained a dedicated fan. However I wasn't quite as impressed by 2008's 'Viva La Vida' - and I absolutely despised 'Mylo Xyloto' and deemed it unpostworthy.
'Atlas' marks the first time that the band have written a song specifically for a film - in this case it's for the soundtrack to 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' which opens on November 22nd - the single is available now on iTunes. So perhaps I'm feeling mellow as it's a Sunday - or perhaps I just like the sparse but artsy lyric video, but today we're featuring the new Coldplay single 'Atlas'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Coldplay Beastie Boys Tribute + Free Download! Coldplay - '(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)'
While countless musicians have been paying tribute to the Beastie Boys Adam Yauch this weekend, Coldplay have posted a particularly heartfelt live tribute on their website titled 'RIP MCA'. It features the band covering the Beastie Boys classic '(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)' which they performed at a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Friday night, after hearing of Yauch's passing earlier in the day.
Coldplay often incorporate unique and rather unexpected covers into their live performances and this actually isn't the first time that they've covered this song, but not surprisingly there's a beautiful sadness inherit in this particular stripped down performance with Chris Martin adding the line 'We're sending all our love to the Beastie Boys' at the end.
