SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Mr. Oizo!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Mr. Oizo - 'Edn' (Vinibanger Remix) Well I must say that itunes is certainly getting their paws on some quality dance music releases lately <cough> In this week's new releases for example we have a new compilation called 'Acid House' - which features big name artists like Boyz4noize - and includes a 'Hard Trance Mix'! They also have a new song from Tfb called 'My Dick Has Bass' and Sissy Penis Factory's 'Everybody F**K Now' from 1991! If you haven't heard it, you can probably guess that it's a 20 year old explicit take on C&C Music Factory's 'Everybody Dance Now' - with clever lyrics like 'Let my pussy take control, let my juices move you'. I don't know where they're getting these top quality exclusive new releases from, but all I can say is buyer beware!

France's Mr. Oizo released his latest album called 'Stade 2' earlier this month - his second released on the Ed Banger label, and his fourth full length overall. The album features a one minute and four second track called 'Ebn' - short for... 'everybody dance now'! It's not a cover per se - although it uses those three memorable words, it's totally different musically speaking. As it's so short it's more of a musical interlude than a song, but Vinicius Miguel aka Vinibanger - a producer from Brazil - has remixed and extended the track, turning into a proper tune. If it's to your liking you can download a copy for free courtesy of Vinibanger here: http://soundcloud.com/vinibanger/mr-oizo-edn-vinibanger-remix or simply click on the download arrow below.

This is the rather supersonic 'Vinibanger Remix' of Mr. Oizo's 'Ebn'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Sina.!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Sina. - 'Remembrance' Yesterday's rain has stopped, for now. I hear some birds now...

Barry Gordon aka Sina. is a producer from Belfast Ireland who released his latest EP called 'From Love To Dust' earlier this month. The EP features six tracks - three songs plus three remixes of the title track - and is released on the Berlin based Project: Mooncircle label. (available on both itunes and Beatport) You can keep up with Sina. and progress on his forthcoming debut album on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/sinasounds

Both the three originals and the remixes all embrace a plethroa of musical styles and influences - although all within some very atmospheric spaces. This is the second track on the EP called 'Remembrance'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Siskiyou!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Siskiyou - 'Always Awake'/ 'Not The Kind' SummersRadio™ reached a new milestone today as far as total views go - hoo-ray! Many thanks to everyone who's enjoyed the music so far - and always feel free to share links with friends to spread the good sounds - Cheers! So today we shall celebrate with not just one, but two new posts featuring new music - this one features some fine local Vancouver talent - and a bonus free download!

Vancouver's Siskiyou is a four piece band led by Colin Hubert - a former member of Great Lake Swimmers - and also includes Erik Arnesen (who's still a member of GLS), Shaunn Watt and Peter Carruthers. Their label Constellation Records have just released the 'Constellation Records 2011 Sampler' on Soundcloud. It features 13 tracks - including a track from each full length album they've released this year, plus some digital only singles.

Siskiyou's song 'Always Awake' is one of two of the band's tracks on the compilation - and if it's to your liking you can download a copy of the song for free from the label's website here: http://cstrecords.com/new-track-siskiyou-always-awake/

Siskiyou notes Guided By Voices as an influence and have been compared to Neil Young, but this song is a bit more experimental and leans more towards Roger Waters and Pink Floyd territory. 'Always Awake' is well suited to a late Sunday evening (or early Monday morning) with it's dark atmospherics. It's beautiful - but sad - further evidence for my studies that proove there is beauty in sadness - including depression. I love the distant sound of the outside rain in the background too... Enjoy!

SISKIYOU - Always Awake by Constellation Records

Bonus Track! Siskiyou - 'Not The Kind' In addition to 'Always Awake' released this month - Siskiyou also recently released their second album called 'Keep Away The Dead' on October 3rd. The album features ten songs - and with titles like 'Fiery Death', 'So Cold' and 'Dead Right Now' - it's not a Friday night party album - well maybe for the comedown part :) It may seem dark but if you lend it your ear you shall be rewarded with some truly beautiful music.

'Not The Kind' is one of my favorite songs from their new album - the lyrics only have one line - but it's a powerful one that can be taken several ways. Some of their more uptempo songs resemble those of Arcade Fire, but I prefer their more atmospheric tunes like this one... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! ColoursColoursColours!

SummersRadio™ New Music! ColoursColoursColours - 'Drip Haze' ColoursColoursColours are a new band from London - so new that they just posted their very first two songs online on Soundcloud this weekend!

Both 'Drip Haze' and 'Missing' are set for release in 2012 on Marshall Teller Records label and you can keep up with the band on Soundcloud here: http://soundcloud.com/colourscolours

This is my favorite track of the two - 'Drip Haze' - it has a nice driving detached feel to it that reminds me of Echoboy, a few shoegaze bands - and even Joy Division's more joyous moments... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Warm Speakers!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Warm Speakers - 'Youth' Patrick Berlinquette is a singer/ songwriter from Long Island New York that is currently recording under the name Warm Speakers. He released his five song debut EP called 'Mezcal Noon' in July - and he's just released his newest single 'Youth' online as a free download!

While the 'Mezcal Noon' EP is perhaps best described as chillwave - which is often characterized by having rather lightweight vocals - Patrick actually has a strong singing voice. His new single 'Youth' is definitely more experiemental/ electronic - and expertly produced. If this song is to your liking you can download a copy (along with his debut EP) for free from his Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/warmspeakers?sk=wall#!/warmspeakers?sk=app_204974879526524

Interestingly Patrick has chosen the same photo used on The Smiths debut album - of Joe Dallesando from Andy Warhol's 1968 film 'Flesh' - as the cover art for 'Youth'. I particularly like the female vocal sample that starts about two minutes in... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! SQL!

SummersRadio™ New Music! SQL - 'Dipole' (Original Mix) Pim van Horssen aka SQL is a dj/ producer from Amsterdam. His latest single called 'Dipole' is included on a new compilation put together by D-Nox & Beckers called 'My Way'. The EP features six tracks - is released on the German label Sprout Music - and is currently available exclusively on Beatport here:
http://www.beatport.com/#release/d-nox-and-beckers-my-way/821667

SQL is currently touring Australia and then Brazil later in December - you can keep up with him if you like on his official website here: http://www.sqlmusic.com/

'Dipole' is the fifth track on the EP - I like hypnotic techno tracks with a bit of a Giorgio Moroder style disco influence - and this is a fine example of that sound... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Spektre & Matt Cooper!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Spektre & Matt Cooper - 'The Chemist' (Sasha Carassi Remix)/ (Secret Cinema Smoky Remix) U.K. duo Spektre have collaborated with dj/ producer Matt Cooper for their latest single which is out now! Both artists are from Leeds and they previously released an EP together in 2009 on the Respekt Recordings label called 'Cuernos Cubanos'. Their new EP is called 'The Chemist' and is released on the Phobiq label.

'The Chemist' EP features three versions of the title track - the challenging part has been deciding which mix to post - all three are quite different and top quality techno tunes in their own right. I couldn't settle on just one - so I'll go with the two remixes - although the 'Original Mix' is good too (I like the vocal samples in it)!

First up we have the remix from Italy's Sasha Carassi - who is also Phobiq's label boss. His remix of 'The Chemist' has a nice gallop to it (it hits a nice stride just one minute in) suitable for either some fast paced horseback riding - or for perhaps playing in a movie during a rad horse chase scene... or for dancing :) Enjoy!

Jeroen Verheij aka Secret Cinema is a veteran techno dj/producer from Rotterdam - and this is his rather hypnotic 'Secret Cinema Smoky Remix' of 'The Chemist'. This version is perhaps more suitable for flying through the clouds on said horse (sold separately) at full speed - as opposed to just galloping on the earth's surface... or for dancing :) Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Saint Motel!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Saint Motel - 'At Least I Have Nothing' Saint Motel are an indie rock band from L.A. that have just released their latest single online as a free download! The trio met in film school and released their debut called 'ForPlay' in 2009 - a six track EP that also included six videos. 'At Least I Have Nothing' is released on 7" vinyl on Monday the 28th on their own label, and you can pre-order it from their official website here:
http://giftshop.saintmotel.com/product/7-1-saint-motel-vinyl

I like the lyrics to this song - vocalist A/J Jackson Jr. describes it as 'a fucked up look at the bright side of utter despair. When you have nothing, maybe that nothingness is actually something…freedom.' If this song is to your liking you can download it for free from their Soundcloud page here:

SummersRadio™ New Music! Computer Magic! + Lemaitre!

SummersRadio™ New Music! 'Kitsune Maison Compilation 12: The Good Fun Issue'! Computer Magic - 'Ex Believer'/ Lemaitre - 'Excuse Me' I've always liked the 'Kitsune Maison' compilation series put out by the French music and fashion label Kitsune - as they feature both electronic and indie rock songs and artists - and their newest edition is no exception! 'Kitsune Maison Compilation 12: The Good Fun Issue' features 15 tracks and is available on cd and as a download - with itunes featuring a bonus 16th track. I've chosen two of my favorites - one more indie leaning tune, and one more electronic!

First up we have Computer Magic - a band from Brooklyn that are currently unsigned - aside from this song that's been scooped up by Kitsune of course. Although the live incarnation of Computer Magic features four members, it's actually the solo project of a 21 year old student named Danielle aka Danz. We previously featured her cover of John Lennon's '(Just Like) Starting Over' back in July which you can revisit here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/07/summersradio-new-music-computer-magic.html

Computer Magic's beautiful vocals and harmonies remind me a bit of The School - and musically speaking they both have a dreamy 60's pop sound - but this song's a bit trippier. It's funny too that The School's debut album was called 'Loveless Unbeliever' - and this song is called 'Ex Believer'! (you can go back to School as it were here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-best-of-2010-school.html) :)

I love the spacey production on this song, and the lyrics - especially the line 'What's the sense of being in myself when I'm so far away?' - brilliant! This the second track on the compilation... Enjoy!

Lemaitre are a duo from Oslo Norway that list Daft Punk, Boys Noize and Justice as influences. Indeed this song starts out sounding very much like Justice - but I also like the singers voice - and I really like how the track morphs into techno territory about 2:22 in!

This is Lemaitre's new song called 'Excuse Me' - the eighth track on the new 'Kitsune Maison Compilation 12: The Good Fun Issue'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + New Video! Cazwell & Peaches!

SummersRadio™ New Music + New Video! Cazwell & Peaches - 'Unzip Me' (Original Mix) Cazwell is a rapper originally from Boston (now based in NYC) who's teamed up with Peaches for his latest single - which is available now on itunes. 'Unzip Me' is the first single from his forthcoming third album, and the 'Unzip Me' EP features three versions of the title track - the 'Original Mix', 'Extended Version' and the 'Instrumental Version' - and is released on the Peace Bisquit label.

This is quite a pairing - with both artists known for being quite explicit with their sexuality. Kudos to Cazwell for being one of very, very few out gay rappers - in a genre that all too often endorses homophobia. 'Unzip Me' certainly has potential to be a big club hit - as it bears more than a passing resemblance to Martin Solveig's massive crossover hit 'Hello'.

The duet is also accompanied by a brand new video that's just been posted on youtube - Peaches rather steals the show a bit here - and not just with her ginormous eyelashes... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Depeche Mode!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Depeche Mode - 'Never Let Me Down Again' (Dunproofin Remix) Andy Dunproofin is a dj/ producer from Aberdeen Britian who's just posted his new remix of Depeche Mode's 'Never Let Me Down Again'!

The 'Dunproofin Remix' has a nice mid-tempo strut with some gurgling acid style keyboards lurking quietly in the mix - that later bubble to the surface in the last few minutes. If this remix is to your liking you can download it for free from the link on Dunproofin's official blog here: http://www.dunproofin.com/

SummersRadio™ New Music! Ramon Zenker & Harada!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Ramon Zenker & Harada - 'Rappelkiste' (Original Mix) Germany's Ramon Zenker (also a member of Hardfloor!) and Harada have released their latest single called 'Rappelkiste'! The song title is also the name of a German tv show, but I'm not sure how this relates to it - if at all. It's a one track single released on the BluFin label - and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport here: http://www.beatport.com/#release/rappelkiste/831795

'Rappelkiste' features a hypnotic rolling bassline, funky percussion, and some curious vocal samples that add up to a rather delicious slice of techno... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remix! The Golden Filter!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remix! The Golden Filter 'Mother' (Au Palais Remix) NYC indie/ electronic duo The Golden Filter have collaborated with Norwegian film director Kristoffer Borgli to make a 10 minute short film called 'Syndromes', which was released on 10/10/11. The film revolves around the tragic story of a young girl with a 'secret talent'. The new Golden Filter song 'Mother' serves as the soundtrack for the film - and a new remix of the song has just been released online!

This is the new breezy 'Au Palais Remix' of 'Mother'... Enjoy!

Bonus Track! If you're interested in the film 'Syndrome' itself, here's the official video for the original version of 'Mother' which features scenes from the film - or better still you can watch the film in it's entirety from The Golden Filter's official website here: http://www.thegoldenfilter.com/

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remix! The Ting Tings/ Bag Raiders!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Remix! The Ting Tings - 'Silence' (Bag Raiders Remix) If someone asked me this morning what the odds were of me posting the new Ting Ting's single today, I would have responded with something like 'I don't forsee that happening' - as I haven't exactly been a fan of the band. They're a bit too top 40 sounding for my liking - it's like they're trying far too hard to be super hooky but they just come off as too repetitive instead. I haven't been a fan of singer Katie White's shouty talk/ rap vocal style either - no offence if you're a fan of course.

However, I am a fan of Sydney's Bag Raiders so I had to check out this new remix and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised - very surprised. Naturally the Bag Raiders production is top notch as usual - but also Katie White actually sings on this track - and her voice is really quite lovely when she's not trying to sound like a bratty teenager!

'Silence' looks set to be the second single (following 'Hands' which was released in October) from The Ting Ting's forthcoming as yet untitled second album, which is slated for release in January. So is this a sign of a more mature sound for the band? Time will tell. For now here's the excellent uplifting 'Bag Raiders Remix' of 'Silence'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Kosheen DJs!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Kosheen DJs - 'Hatch 2' Bristol's Kosheen DJs have just released a new EP called 'Hatch' this week! It contains three tracks - numbered as 'Hatch 1', 2 and 3 - and it's released on the Skeleton label. The 'Hatch' EP is currently available exclusively on Beatport here: http://www.beatport.com/#release/hatch/830847

Kosheen DJs have actually been around for many years - and their sound has constantly been evolving. The trio released their debut album - then known simply as Kosheen - called 'Resist' in 2001 and had a number of hit singles around the world. Their sound initially revolved around drum and bass and breakbeat, but their second album 'Kokopelli' in 2003 had more of a guitar focus. Two members of the band have also recorded under the name Decoder & Substance, and more recently they've been recording techno tracks under the name Kosheen DJs.

Out of the three 'Hatch' tracks it's 'Hatch 2' that does it most for me with it's wicked production - especially the break that starts around 2:45 in - that gets even cooler around 3:18ish... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gingy & Bordello!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Gingy & Bordello - 'Body Acid' (KiNK's On Acid Remix) Gingy & Bordello are a duo from Toronto that just released their new EP called 'Body Acid' today! (available on both itunes and Beatport) The 'Body Acid' EP features four tracks - the original mix of the title track, plus two remixes by Bulgaria's Strahil Velchev aka KiNK - and a song called 'Amino'. It's the latest (and fourth) release on Tiga's new Turbo sub-label called Twin Turbo.

The 'Original Mix' of 'Body Acid' is really good - a classic sounding acid techno track - but this 'KiNK's On Acid Remix' is even better - a walk on the wilder side... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Marco Bailey!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Marco Bailey - 'Greedy Convention' (Original Mix) Belgium's Marco Bailey has just released his newest song called 'Greedy Convention' today! It's a one track single and is released on his own techno label MB Elektronics - that he formed in 2002 - and it's one sonic monster!

I'm not sure what the title is all about - a comment on recent economics perhaps? But then there are vocal samples in the song that talk about love, so perhaps not. I do know that 'Greedy Convention' begins inconspicuously enough - the hypnotic tech house groove lures you in. About two minutes in they take the song to the next level by flying into more techno territory with a parade of amazingly produced sounds that keep escalating. Then at 4:20 (!) in comes an awesome breakdown that soon builds the song even higher. I certainly don't support greedy people, but if this is the kind of music they're going to play at their convention I want in! :)

'Greedy Convention' is currently available exclusively on Beatport here: http://www.beatport.com/#release/greedy-convention/830744

I suspect that this song will sound equally amazing in both clubs and your headphones... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Holy Ghost!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Holy Ghost! featuring Nancy Whang and Juan MacLean - 'I Wanted To Tell Her' Holy Ghost have just released their latest single - a cover of Ministry's 'I Wanted To Tell Her'! The song features special guests and DFA Records label mates Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem and Juan MacLean - although the song is available from Green Label Sound - the record label formed by Mountain Dew!

'I Wanted To Tell Her' was one of three singles released from Ministry's often forgotten new wave/ synthpop debut album called 'With Sympathy' which was released in 1983 - before singer Al Jourgensen quickly moved on to a more industrial, and later hardcore sound. This cover by Holy Ghost! is quite faithful to the original (although shorter in length) - they even mimic the original 'With Sympathy' cover art!  If this version is to your liking you can download it for free from the Green Label Sound website here: http://www.greenlabelsound.com/artists/holyghost/

I love Nancy Whang's vocals, so her voice is a welcome addition here... Enjoy!

Bonus Track! Ministry - 'Work For Love' 'Work For Love' was another single from Ministry's 'With Sympathy' album - and about 180 degrees away from their later sound of singles such as 'Jesus Built My Hotrod'. After a being on hiatus for a couple years Ministry recently reformed for some live shows this summer - and they plan to tour in the new year in support of a new album called 'Relapse' which is expected to be released in the spring. You can bet that they won't be doing this one live - but it's still a great song - I like the female backing vocals - and it's even got a cowbell in it... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Coma!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Coma - 'Gravity'/ 'Fiction' Coma are a duo from Cologne Germany consisting of Georg Conrad & Marius Bubat - and they've just released their latest EP called 'Gravity' this week! Coma describe their sound as 'new rave & oldschool techno, 80s pop and 2k-modernity in a deep hug'. The 'Gravity' EP features three great tracks and is released on the Kompakt label.

This is the title track and first song on the EP - a superbly produced hypnotic techno tune with a hint of disco - and a trippy video... Enjoy!

This is the third track on the EP called 'Fiction'. The song has a wintery feel to it - the first couple minutes are pretty chill - reminicent of Air (if they were from Germany) and then it picks up the pace with the sleekness of a Pet Shop Boys tune (if they were from France) :) Enjoy!

The album embraces a number of styles and after a few initial listens I've chosen a couple favorites - starting with reggae flavored 'Rasta Voice'... Enjoy!

'Disco Mile' is the ninth track on 'Out Of Play' - and another standout... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ And Now For Something Completely Different! Little Roy!

SummersRadio™ And Now For Something Completely Different! Little Roy - 'Lithium'/ 'Son Of a Gun' Jamaica's Earl Lowe - better known as Little Roy - released his latest album called 'Battle For Seattle' in September on the Ark Recordings label. 'Battle For Seattle' features ten songs - all Nirvana covers!

Naturally some songs work better in a reggae style than others - I've chosen a couple that I think translate well. First up is 'Lithium'. Hey have you ever thought you knew the lyrics to a song - like for years - but you find out later that a word you thought was one thing was actually a different word meaning something else? Since the first time I heard 'Lithum' - and everytime since - I thought Kurt was saying 'I'm not gonna cry'! Then when I listened to Little Roy's version I thought he sure does say cry funny - but it's crack! Kurt was singing about crack - err... cracking anyway - not crying. I like it - crack sounds edgier. It's funny to think that the irony was lost on me all this time. True story.

I actually find it quite peaceful when the 'yeah/ yay' part starts - as you expect abrasiveness but instead you get smooth laidback vibes - a pleasant surprise... Enjoy!

'Son Of A Gun' is not technically a Nirvana song - as they covered it from the Vaselines debut EP which was released in 1987 - and then included it on the their 'Incesticide' compilation in 1992. So this is a cover of a cover of a cover - but it's perfectly suited to be a reggae song. The lyrics totally work as dancehall - and it's about sunshine even! This is Little Roy's ultra chilled version of 'Son Of A Gun'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Slowdive!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Slowdive - 'Alison' All this talk of shoegaze the last couple days got me thinking of one of my most favorite songs of the genre - and Christian Strobe mentioned Slowdive as well - so I simply must post it! 'Alison' is the first track on Slowdive's 'Outside Your Room' EP and their third album 'Souvlaki' - both released in 1993 on Creation Records.

In addition to the amazing production on this track, I also love the lyrics:

Listen close, and don't be stoned
I'll be here in the morning
'Cause I'm just floating
Your cigarette still burns
Your messed-up world will thrill me
Alison, I'm lost

Alison, I said we're sinking
There's nothing here but that's okay
Outside your room, your sister's spinning
But she lies, tells me she's just fine
I guess she's out there somewhere

And the sailors they strike poses
TV covered walls, and so slowly
With your talking and your pills
Your messed-up life still thrills me
Alison, I'm lost

Alison, I'll drink your wine
I'll wear your clothes, when we're both high
Alison, I said we're sinking
But she laughs and tells me it's just fine
I guess she's out there somewhere

Most songs sound like they move up and down - but this one goes more sideways - in circles. To me this song sounds like how floating would feel - if humans could literally do so physically. I wish that there was an extended version of this song - like an hour long! This is 'Alison'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! My Bloody Valentine!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! My Bloody Valentine - 'Soon' (Christian Strobe Remix) Yesterday we featured the rare original remix of My Bloody Valentine's 'Soon' from 1990 - today we have a brand new 2011 club remix of the song! Christian Schnall aka Christian Strobe is a dj/ producer from Germany who, like myself, is a fan of both electronic and indie rock music. In addition to releasing his own original material - he's also recently remixed artists such as M83 and Arcade Fire.

Christian says this of the band: 'My Bloody Valentine and their album "loveless" were absolutely lifechanging for me (beside Slowdive). They created so massive soundwalls with guitars and lots of effect pedals, so f*ucking amazing. To be honest...yes i'm a f*cking shoegazer. Damn Techno. Haha'.

If this new remix is to your liking you can download it for free on Soundcloud courtesy of Christian Strobe himself here:
http://soundcloud.com/christianstrobe/my-bloody-valentine-soon
and you can keep up with him on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/ChristianStrobe

This is the new 'Christian Strobe Remix' of 'Soon'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Special Anniversary! My Bloody Valentine!

SummersRadio™ Special Anniversary! My Bloody Valentine - 'Blown A Wish'/ 'Soon' (Andrew Weatherall Remix) Today, November 4th marks the 20th anniversary of the release of My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless' album! Surprisingly there are no anniversary editions being released, but the greatness of said release shall not go unnoticed here at SummersRadio™. As shown in the previous post for Sleeping Bags, the shozegaze sound (thankfully) is still influencing new bands today.

'Loveless' didn't come easy though - it took two years to record - taxing the finances of their label Creation Records. It was never a huge seller, but critics and fans alike have been praising it for a full two decades now. This is one of my favorite tracks from 'Loveless' - as I like the spacious drifting romantic feel to it - this is 'Blown A Wish'... Enjoy!

Bonus Track! Rare Remix! My Bloody Valentine - 'Soon' (Andrew Weatherall Remix) Although 'Soon' was included on the 'Loveless' album it was first released on the 'Glider EP' which came out the previous year. This rare club friendly remix (complete with cowbell action) by Andrew Weatherall was only released on the second 12" single (the 'Glider EP Remixes' 12") in the U.K. - Enjoy!

They've released two proper singles from the album so far - 'Park' and a remix of 'Cantaloupe' (which are both available on 7" singles) and now 'Shark'.

Sleeping Bags sound is akin to other wall of sound inspired artists such as shoegaze pioneers My Bloody Valentine and more recent bands such as The Black Angels. Their album is available digitally through itunes - or you can get it a couple dollars cheaper from their bandcamp site here:
http://sleepingbags.bandcamp.com/album/sleeping-bags-full-album

SummersRadio™ New Music! EMA!

SummersRadio™ New Music! EMA featuring MzGorjis - 'Angelo' Portland based Erika M. Anderson and her band - aka EMA - have just released their latest single online - with a brand new b-side!

'Marked' has been officially released on itunes this week - as the latest single from her 'Past Life Martyred Saints' debut, which came out in May. The song will also be released as a 7" on November 21st. It's limted to 1,000 copies - with the first 200 being on clear vinyl - which you can pre-order here:
http://souterraintransmissionsus.bigcartel.com/product/ema-marked-b-w-angelo-7

'Angelo' is the b-side and a new song - I remember hearing this at EMA's excellent Vancouver show last month - the strings particularly stood out nicely live. This recording features a guest verse from Oakland rapper MzGorjis and resembles some of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's more experimental material... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular! The Chilling Finale! The Tear Garden!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular! The Chilling Finale! The Tear Garden - 'The Centre Bullet' And now the chilling conclusion of our second annual STARTLEFEST - the 2011 Edition... after unwraping our souls we wrap up with this disturbing hypnotic ambient track from Vancouver's own Tear Garden. The Tear Garden was formed in 1985 by The Legendary Pink Dots Edward Ka-Spel and Skinny Puppy's cEvin Key - and they released their debut full length album in 1987 called 'Tired Eyes Slowly Burning' on Vancouver's Nettwerk label.

The subject of the song is disturbing enough - shooting oneself in the head - but it reaches it's frightening peak around 7:25 in. In fact I DARE you to listen to the last two minutes of this song with your eyes closed! I guarantee you'll be creeped out - maybe even startled!!

The is The Tear Garden's 'The Centre Bullet' - beware... and Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular Continues! Savage Progress!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular Continues! Savage Progress - 'My Soul Unwraps Tonight' (12" Extended Version) So if we are honest enough to accept our own immortality, then it's only natural to wonder what becomes of us when our physical self dies. To quote C.S. Lewis 'You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body' - so where does this soul go afterwards? Why wait until you're dead to find out - perhaps Halloween is a good time to take your soul out for a test drive as it were!

London's Savage Progress were together for less than three years between 1982 and 1985 - 'My Soul Unwraps Tonight' became an underground hit in 1984. I think it suits Halloween as it speaks of souls - but it also has an interesting, almost other worldy feel to the music. The song was written by bass player/ vocalist Rik Kenton - a former member of Roxy Music.

'My Soul Unwraps Tonight' has a bit of a reggae feel - truth be told I originally mistyped Halloweed instead of Halloween earlier in this post - an idea for a new sub-holiday perhaps? :) This song itself is rare - but here's the even rarer '12" Extended Version' of 'My Soul Unwraps Tonight'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular Continues! Yoko Ono!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2011 Halloween Spectacular Continues! Yoko Ono & The Brother Brothers - 'Yes, I'm A Witch' Few people are as loved and loathed at the same time as Yoko Ono. 'Yes, I'm A Witch' is a track from an album called 'A Story' which was recorded in 1974 - but it didn't get a proper release until 1997. Then in 2007 the song was included on - and served as the title for - a remix album where artists such as Peaches, The Flaming Lips, Le Tigre and Spiritualized were invited to cover or remix the Yoko Ono song of their choosing!

While Yoko's playing up to some of her haters in the lyrics of this song - I also like how she stands up for herself and the outsider and underdog in all of us - by pointing out the importance of being true to ourselves. To quote a few lines:

'Were gonna say,
Were gonna try,
Were gonna try it our way.
Weve been repressed,
Weve been depressed,
Suppression all the way.

Were not gonna die for you,
Were not seeking vengeance,
But were not gonna kill ourselves for your convenience.'

This is Yoko Ono & The Brother Brothers with the amped up 2007 version of 'Yes, I'm A Witch'... Enjoy!
