SummersRadio™ New Music! Coyu Featuring Austin Howard - 'Embrace' (Be-Beats Version)
Spain's Coyu has just released his latest EP called 'Embrace'! Ivan Ramos Salinas aka Coyu is an artist/ dj/ producer from Barcelona who also owns the Saura Music label. His new two track EP features two versions of the title track - the original and this 'Be-Beats Version'. It's released on the Area Remote label and is currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/embrace/896491
I looked up Coyu on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/CoyuMusic and as soon as I saw his profile pic I knew that I was on to something good :)
I also like he he describes his sound "When house meets techno and the funk winks to the soul, the melody joins the groove and your body says wohoo!" and it's the 'Be-Beats Version' of 'Embrace' that does so here.
The song begins with a hypnotic groove - like a party train you suddenly hear in the distance. It gradually gets closer and closer and before you know it you're on the party train and you don't even know how you got on! You're travelling fast until you reach the Amazon rainforest - around 2:30 in you start to hear the calls of the birds and animals. Just before sunset, our tour guide - vocalist Austin Howard arrives - and where the journey takes you from there is up to you... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Paco Wegmann - 'Dominus' (Egal 3 Remix)/ 'Midnight Walk' (Original Mix)
Paco Wegmann has just released a new EP called 'Midnight Walk'! Wegmann is a young dj/ producer - just 20 years old - from Germany. The EP features two tracks - the original plus one remix of both the title track, and a song called 'Dominus'. It's released on London's Black & White Orange Records label and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/midnight-walk/891105
This is the fourth track on the EP - the 'Egal 3 Remix' of 'Dominus'. It builds steadily until a wicked disco style bassline drops and takes the song to the next level around a minute and a half in... Enjoy!
It's getting late - time for a 'Midnight Walk' - across the dancefloor... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Bonus Tracks! School Of Seven Bells - 'Kiss Them For Me'/ Siouxsie and the Banshees - 'Kiss Them For Me' (Kathak #2 Mix)/ Siousxie and the Banshees vs Chemical Brothers - 'Come With Us'/ Kiss Them For Me' (Kathak #2 Mix)
School Of Seven Bells have just released their new single online - a cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees 'Kiss The For Me'! Although not featured on their latest album 'Ghostory' which was released in February on the Ghostly International label, the song has been a staple of their live shows. It was officially released as a limited 7" single for Record Store Day on the weekend - and it's now available on itunes as well.
'Kiss Them For Me' was originally released as the first single from Siouxsie and the Banshee's album 'Superstition' in 1991. This is a really good cover - it's quite faithful to the original in overall structure - but with the addition of newer industrial tinged electronics... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! Siouxsie and the Banshees - 'Kiss Them For Me' (Kathak #2 Mix) This is one of the remixes from the original 1991 North American cd single by Youth... Enjoy!
Bonus Track #2! Siouxsie and the Banshees vs Chemical Brothers - 'Come With Us'/ 'Kiss Them For Me' (Kathak Mix #2) I just came across this unlikely mashup for the first time today and I was surprisingly blown away by how well it works. I don't have any further information at this time about who did the mashup other than his or her name on Youtube is TheGSST... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Jack White - 'Take Me With You When You Go'/ 'Weep Themselves To Sleep'
Jack White has released his debut solo album called 'Blunderbuss' today! The 13 track album is released on his own Third Man Records label and is his first release since officially disbanding the White Stripes in February 2011. We've already featured the first two singles from the album 'Love Interruption' and 'Sixteen Saltines', so today we have two of the album's other standout tracks.
Upon my first listen if there's one criticism I have of 'Blunderbuss' it's that it lacks some of the overall energy of his White Stripes output. Perhaps Meg White's drumming had more influence on their sound than one may have thought. It's well produced of course and mixes his usual styles of rock, country, blues, and folk - but on occasion it just ends up sounding a bit too middle of the road - and not in a cool Pretenders kind of way, just rather adult contemporary. That said I've chosen two tracks that I think still hold their own.
'Take Me With You When You Go' is the album's closing track and one of the album's most diverse production wise. The song begins with lead female vocals over a jazzy piano backdrop that pauses briefly around the two minute mark and transforms into a Zeppelin styled rocker with the two parts then melding together creating an epic reminiscent of Spiritualized... Enjoy!
'Weep Themselves To Sleep' is the seventh track on 'Blunderbuss' - I like the piano in this one... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Saint Etienne - 'Wouldn't It Be Nice'/ 'Tonight' (Club Clique Remix)
While we anxiously await the release of Saint Etienne's new album the band has just recorded a cover of the Beach Boys classic 'Wouldn't It Be Nice'! The song is the first track on a new compilation called 'Pet Sounds Revisited' - a tribute to the Beach Boys 1966 album. The cd is being released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys and will be given away free on the cover of the June 2012 issue of the British music magazine Mojo. You can order a copy from anywhere in the world here: http://www.greatmagazines.co.uk/store/displayitem.asp?sid=5355&id=51418
Saint Etienne's cover begins stripped down with just the vocals of Sarah Cracknell - then morphs into some dreamy Burt Bacharach style production - alternating with some almost dancey bits... Enjoy!
'Words And Music By Saint Etienne' - their new 13 track album - is released on May 21st - here's the cover art:
Bonus Track! We featured Saint Etienne's first official single and video previously here: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2012/02/summersradio-new-video-new-remix-saint.html
Last month 'Tonight' was released as a four track EP featuring an 'Extended Version', a song called 'You Are Here', the '2 Bears Remix' and this 'Club Clique Remix'. It's available on itunes and also as a limited 12" single from the band's official store here: http://store.universal-music.co.uk/restofworld/artists/saint-etienne/icat/saintetienne/
This is the 'Club Clique Remix' of 'Tonight'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Martin Eyerer & Florian Meindl - 'The Rush' (Original Mix)/ 'Slow Groover' (Original Mix - edit)
Martin Eyerer and Florian Meindel have just released a new two track single called 'The Rush EP'! Germany's Martin Eyerer owns the Kling Klong Records label and Austria's Florian Meindel (now based in Berlin) owns the FLASH Recordings label - but they've teamed up for this new release on the Boxer Recordings label - in celebration of the label's 10 year anniversary!
The EP features the original mixes of 'The Rush' and 'Slow Groover' and is currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/the-rush-ep/893700
'The Rush EP' features a rollercoaster on the cover art, and it's apt - as both tracks are quite a ride - so I shall feature both! This is the title track... Enjoy!
This is the equally fantastic b-side on 'The Rush EP' called 'Slow Groover'. Please note that this is an edit - the full song is 6:37... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Raven Maize - 'The Real Life' (Fatboy Slim Remix)
First of all Happy 4/20! I will be attending the 17th annual 4/20 gathering at the VAG (Vancouver Art Gallery) this afternoon, so I thought I'd get in an early post before I get well sedated :)
The biggest story from the first weekend of the Coachella Music Festival has been about a performer who wasn't actually even there. As you've no doubt heard 2Pac - who died in 1996 - performed live at Coachella with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre - in the form of a hologram. Now I'm sure that if you're a big fan and you were at Coachella on acid or something, then I'll bet this was quite a trip. However, the implications of this have been in my thoughts all week - the Pandora's box has been opened - and we can never go back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGbrFmPBV0Y
While Tupac's mother approves of this, I most certainly do not. I came across this cheeky item a couple days ago - for Coachella 2013 - featuring an all hologram lineup!
This is just wrong - and I don't mean just because The Beatles aren't headlining Sunday! I know that Damon Albarn has used this technology with the Gorillaz - but that was a different thing - it was to bring cartoon characters to life that were of his own creation. In the case of Tupac they're using a dead man's likeness as a performance puppet. He even greets the crowd with 'Wtf is up Coachella?' - who's saying that? Coachella started three years after he died - he never said that in his life, so it isn't sampled or prerecorded - it's FAKE. And of course it's without his consent. I suppose musicians will have to start stipulating in their wills whether or not they want their likeness used to perform for them after their deaths.
So what's next for Tupac - a co-headlining tour with Biggie? Apparently both the hologram's creators Digital Domain - and Snoop Dogg - have plans for a possible tour. Disgusting. I've already decided that I will never go to a 'concert' where a deceased artist is performing live as a hologram. Of course this is only the beginning - you know that someone somewhere in Memphis is already plotting the 'live' return of Elvis Presley (who's strangely absent from next year's Coachella lineup - I'm guessing because he's still alive!) with dollars signs in their eyes! Hopefully anyone with living relatives - as in the case of Elvis and The Beatles - would prevent such an atrocity from becoming a so-called reality. I certainly can't imagine John Lennon approving.
And once these hologram tours of dead artists start rising up everywhere you know it won't be a cheap show - I pity the fool willing to pay over $100 to see Bob Marley or whoever else may become a victim to this. They've already had numerous dead celebrities endorsing products on tv, so I guess this was inevitable, but I for one am not having it!
So let's tie in today's two themes - posthumous reality and 4/20 - with a classic from Raven Maize! 'The Real Life' was released as a single in the summer of 2001 on the Rulin Records label. The song blurs the lines of reality as well by featuring a vocal sample from Queen's song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' - who's singer Freddy Mercury died in 1991. Perhaps less obvious is that the song also nicks the keyboards from Simple Minds track 'Themes For Great Cities' from their 1981 album 'Sister Feeling Call'.
This is the 'Fatboy Slim Remix' of Raven Maize's 'The Real Life' - I particularly like the vocal breakdown around 5:20 in... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Music News + Rare Remixes! Blur - 'Blur 21' (video trailer)/ 'Me, White Noise' (Alternate Version)/ 'Girls And Boys' (Pet Shop Boys 12" Remix)/ 'I Know' (Extended Mix)
London's Blur have just announced that they're releasing a massive boxed set on July 30th called 'Blur 21:The Box'! The 21 (!) disc set is being released - and all seven of their studio albums are being reissued - to celebrate 21 years since the release of their debut album 'Leisure'.
Here's what the incredible boxed set will contain:
Blur 21: The Box
A deluxe 21 disc set, featuring:
- All seven newly expanded two-disc studio albums
- Four discs of rarities, exclusive to this set. Includes 3½ hours of previously unreleased material
- Three DVDs including over 2 hours of previously unreleased footage. Includes two pivotal live shows and an exclusive disc of video rarities.
- Collectable 7" single of the rare and previously unreleased live recording of the Seymour-era track Superman.
- Deluxe hard-bound book telling the story of Blur's 21 year career with extensive liner notes based on a brand new interviews with the band, illustrated with imagery of the era, including some previously unseen photos
I love Blur so this looks amazing - but the big question is how much is it?!? That I can't tell you just yet, as there aren't any prices listed thus far. However if it's unreasonable you do have other physical options. Each cd is also going to be re-released individually with a second bonus disc featuring both rarities and previously unreleased material. Each album will also be re-released on vinyl - and there's also a vinyl boxed set available - however the vinyl releases do not include all the bonus material.
In all there are 65 previously unreleased tracks included across the bonus discs. You can find the complete tracklistings for each of their seven reissues from the official website here: http://blur.co.uk/blur21/
Here's a video trailer the band have made for the 'Blur 21 - Celebrating 21 Years Of Blur' box set:
I've chosen three somewhat rare remixes from their career - and all three will be included on the corresponding album's respective bonus disc. 'Think Tank' was the band's seventh album and their last before breaking up, which was released in 2003.
'Me, White Noise' has always been a bit of a tricky track to locate as it appears on the cd release as a pre-gap hidden track at the start of the disc. However some cd players will recognize it, but most do not - so even if you own the cd you may have never heard this song! Even on itunes there are two 'Think Tank' releases - one without the track - and another where it appears at the end as track 14.
This 'Alternate Version' was included on the dvd single for 'Good Song' and differs from the original in that it does not include the ramblings of actor Phil Daniels (who provided the spoken word vocals on one of their earlier singles 'Parklife'). I've always loved this track as it's more dancey and electronic than the rest of the album - and I love it when Damon says 'because I've got no facking choice'... Enjoy!
'Girls And Boys' was released as the first single from their third album 'Parklife' in 1994. This 'Pet Shop Boys 12" Mix' was originally included on the European and American cd singles for the song - and it will now be available on the bonus disc for 'Parklife' on July 30th... Enjoy!
'I Know' was the b-side to Blur's very first single - 'She's So High' - which was released in 1990. This 'Extended Mix' appeared on the cd and 12" single and will be included on the bonus disc for 'Leisure' on July 30th - 21 years after it's original release... Enjoy!

'Bloom' will be the band's fourth album and it's set for release on May 15th on the Sub Pop label. 'Lazuli' is the third song on the ten track album, and it's quite simply dreamy pop perfection... Enjoy!
