SummersRadio™ Rare Remixes + Free Downloads! Nine Inch Nails! Editors!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remixes + Free Downloads! Nine Inch Nails - 'Closer' (Mano-Destra Remix)/ Editors - 'In This Light And On This Evening' (MindsEye Remix)

Most of today has been spent recovering from the Reading Festival - specifically Sunday's line up which included sets from the Editors and Nine Inch Nails. While it was great to be part of such a massive music gathering (upwards of 80,000 humans) and both bands performed fine sets I was a titch disappointed that they didn't perform my own personal favourite tracks.

Of course when artists have multiple albums out one never knows which songs will be played - so it's a gamble and of course they can't please everyone. Sometimes a band simply grows tired of playing certain songs as well - when was the last time Radiohead performed 'Creep' live?

NIN played a fifteen song set including four songs from the forthcoming album 'Hesitation Marks' - and a number of classics including 'Terrible Lie' and 'March Of The Pigs' - but they didn't do perhaps my three favourite tracks: 'Head Like A Hole', 'Closer' or 'Hurt'.

Interestingly they did all the aforementioned songs at their Lollapalooza set which you can check out in full here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRrQrow-PK0 Perhaps it was just due to a shorter set time - as NIN strangely weren't the headliners - Biffy Clyro were.

So while I pout over what NIN didn't play I thought I'd fill the void with a couple of remixes. If you haven't heard Tall Sasha's remix of 'Closer' which made my best of 2011 'Top 25 Electronic/ Club Tracks' list at number one - you can check it out m'here (it's still available as a free download): https://soundcloud.com/tall-sasha/nine-inch-nails-closer-tall

This is another interesting remix I came across today - by Portland's Benjamin Diggles aka 'Mano-Destra' - and if it's to your liking you can download a copy for free by clicking on the download arrow below... Enjoy!

Alas the Editors performed a great set as well but didn't do my personal favourite track - the title song from their album 'In This Light And On This Evening'. Here's a remix from the Netherlands' MindsEye - and if it's to your liking it's also available as a free download on Soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/mindseye4/editors-in-this-light-and-on

Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic + Rare Remixes! Vapourspace!

SummersRadio™ Classic + Rare Remixes! Vapourspace - 'Gravitational Arch Of 10' (12" Version')/ (Magnetic Gravity Arc Suite)

Today we have a classic from the vaults - along with a slew of rare remixes! New York's Mark Gage aka Vapourspace released the 'Gravitional Arch Of 10' single in 1993 which was included on the 'Themes From Vapourspace' album released the following year.

The album 'Themes From Vapourspace' appears to be out of print, but you can find some copies online. The 'Original Mix' (10:22 in length) is still available as a download on a compilation compiled by John Acquaviva on Plus 8 Records called 'Blueprints For Modern Technology Volume 2': http://www.beatport.com/#release/blueprints-for-modern-technology-volume-2/192047

The song begins subtly with a dreamy hypnotic loop as keyboards resembling eerie air raid sirens prepare you for your journey into (vapour) space - this is the original video for the '12" Version' of the song... Enjoy!

The 'Gravitational Arch Of 10' (Magnetic Gravity Arc Suite) was released on a cd maxi single in the U.S. in '93 which featured seven remixes seamlessly stitched together to create an epic 35 plus minute version of the song - that features some wonderful acid techno bits as well! The 'Magnetic Gravity Arch Suite' includes remixes from John Acquaviva and Mark Gage himself - here's the full tracklisting:

Magnetic Gravity Arc Suite (35:07)

1.1 Gravitational Arch Of 10 (Original Version)
1.2 Gravitational Arch Of 10 (Telepathic Gravitation V2.1)
Remix -- Coleman Horn, Fred Giannelli
1.3 Gravitational Arch Of 10 (J's Anti Gravity One)
Remix -- John Acquaviva
1.4 Gravitational Arch Of 10 (Telepathic Gravitation V1.3)

1.6 Gravitational Arch Of 10 (J's Anti Gravity Two)

Here's the blissed-out 'Magnetic Gravity Arc Suite' of 'Gravitational Arch Of 10' in it's entirety... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remixes! Blur! New Order!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remixes! Blur - 'Song 2' (Kevin Miller Remix) (includes free download)/ New Order - 'Love Vigilantes' (Extended Mix)/ The Specials - 'Friday Night Saturday Morning'

I wish I was in London today! Not for the full on hoopla of the closing of the Olympic Games - just for the free concert in Hyde Park! The concert featured the same theme as the closing ceremonies - 'The Best Of British' - and was headlined by Blur, featuring special guests New Order and The Specials. While we wait for the reviews to come in so we know what we've missed, let's enjoy a couple rare remixes - one from Blur and one from New Order.

'Song 2' was first released as the second single from Blur's fifth (self titled) album in 1997. The song has been remixed countless times since - this version was remixed last summer by Swiss dj/ producer Kevin Miller. If it's to your liking you can download a copy for free courtesy of Kevin Miller by clicking the download icon below... Enjoy!

This is a rare remix of one of my favorite New Order songs - 'Love Vigilantes' - from their 'Low-Life' album. This is the rare (slightly) 'Extended Mix'... Enjoy!

Bonus Track! 'Friday Night Saturday Morning' is a song I reckon everyone can relate to - who doesn't have an all nighter now and then? Sometimes every weekend :) 'Friday Night Saturday Morning' was originally released as one of the b-side tracks to their number one hit from 1981 'Ghost Town'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remixes! Beastie Boys!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remixes! Beastie Boys - 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn' (LFOMG Remix Featuring Bass Nation & Jason Dennis)/ Franz Ferdinand vs The Beastie Boys - 'Triple Take'

Many music fans have been saddened by the passing of Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys earlier today - myself included. I've been a long time Beasties fan - especially for how they pioneered mixing hip hop with punk and rock. I have a copy of their 1983 single 'Cooky Puss' on cd single and the original 12" pressing of their 1985 single 'She's On It'!  I was also lucky enough to meet them back in the 90's, so today I shall feature two rather rare remixes as a small tribute.

'No Sleep Till Brooklyn' was the sixth (!) single released from the Beastie Boys massive debut album 'Licensed To Ill'. The song was produced by Rick Rubin and features guitar riffs courtesy of Slayer's Kerry King. This remix is by Los Angeles producer Johnathan Rivers aka LFOMG - short for 'low frequency oscillator' plus 'oh my goodness' apparently.

Don't be fooled by the dubious name - or the fact that it says dubstep in the title below - this remix released online last November rocks! One of the things I like about it is how he (along with Bass Nation & Jason Dennis) takes the song further into punk and metal territory - the next level kicks in around 1:40... Enjoy!

The 'Franzie Boys' EP was a collection of mashups between Franz Ferdinand and Beastie Boys tracks made by a producer named McSleazy. The four track 12" single was 'unofficially released' on the Half Inch Recordings label in 2004. This is the first track on the EP called 'Triple Take' - a fusion of Franz Ferdinand's 'Take Me Out' and the Beastie Boys 'Triple Trouble' from their 2004 album 'To The 5 Boroughs'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Music News + Rare Remixes! Blur!

SummersRadio™ Music News + Rare Remixes! Blur - 'Blur 21' (video trailer)/ 'Me, White Noise' (Alternate Version)/ 'Girls And Boys' (Pet Shop Boys 12" Remix)/ 'I Know' (Extended Mix)

London's Blur have just announced that they're releasing a massive boxed set on July 30th called 'Blur 21:The Box'! The 21 (!) disc set is being released - and all seven of their studio albums are being reissued - to celebrate 21 years since the release of their debut album 'Leisure'.

Here's what the incredible boxed set will contain:

Blur 21: The Box
A deluxe 21 disc set, featuring:

  • All seven newly expanded two-disc studio albums
  • Four discs of rarities, exclusive to this set. Includes 3½ hours of previously unreleased material
  • Three DVDs including over 2 hours of previously unreleased footage. Includes two pivotal live shows and an exclusive disc of video rarities.
  • Collectable 7" single of the rare and previously unreleased live recording of the Seymour-era track Superman.
  • Deluxe hard-bound book telling the story of Blur's 21 year career with extensive liner notes based on a brand new interviews with the band, illustrated with imagery of the era, including some previously unseen photos
I love Blur so this looks amazing - but the big question is how much is it?!? That I can't tell you just yet, as there aren't any prices listed thus far. However if it's unreasonable you do have other physical options. Each cd is also going to be re-released individually with a second bonus disc featuring both rarities and previously unreleased material. Each album will also be re-released on vinyl - and there's also a vinyl boxed set available - however the vinyl releases do not include all the bonus material.

In all there are 65 previously unreleased tracks included across the bonus discs. You can find the complete tracklistings for each of their seven reissues from the official website here: http://blur.co.uk/blur21/

Here's a video trailer the band have made for the 'Blur 21 - Celebrating 21 Years Of Blur' box set:

I've chosen three somewhat rare remixes from their career - and all three will be included on the corresponding album's respective bonus disc. 'Think Tank' was the band's seventh album and their last before breaking up, which was released in 2003.

'Me, White Noise' has always been a bit of a tricky track to locate as it appears on the cd release as a pre-gap hidden track at the start of the disc. However some cd players will recognize it, but most do not - so even if you own the cd you may have never heard this song! Even on itunes there are two 'Think Tank' releases - one without the track - and another where it appears at the end as track 14.

This 'Alternate Version' was included on the dvd single for 'Good Song' and differs from the original in that it does not include the ramblings of actor Phil Daniels (who provided the spoken word vocals on one of their earlier singles 'Parklife'). I've always loved this track as it's more dancey and electronic than the rest of the album - and I love it when Damon says 'because I've got no facking choice'... Enjoy!

'Girls And Boys' was released as the first single from their third album 'Parklife' in 1994. This 'Pet Shop Boys 12" Mix' was originally included on the European and American cd singles for the song - and it will now be available on the bonus disc for 'Parklife' on July 30th... Enjoy!

'I Know' was the b-side to Blur's very first single - 'She's So High' - which was released in 1990. This 'Extended Mix' appeared on the cd and 12" single and will be included on the bonus disc for 'Leisure' on July 30th - 21 years after it's original release... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ 500th Post Celebration! Concert Review + Rare Remixes! The Human League! Part 2!

SummersRadio™ 500th Post Celebration! Concert Review/ Rare Remixes! The Human League - '(Keep Feeling) Fascination' (Groove Collision TMC Mix)/ 'Don't You Want Me' (Tommy Reye Remix)

If you're more than just a casual Human League fan, you'll know that they've actually had quite a number of hits - and they just kept coming Sunday night - along with numerous costume changes as well! After playing a couple more singles from their new album "Credo' they played their North American number one hit from 1986 'Human' - followed with 'Love Action (I Believe In Love)', then 'All I Ever Wanted' from their 2001 album 'Secrets' and 'Tell Me When' from their 1995 comeback album 'Octopus'. They pretty much stuck to the original versions of songs - no radical remixes - although a couple songs were extended a bit.

Hearing the opening bassline of '(Keep Feeling) Fascination' always cheers me up - here's a rare remix included on the U.K. bonus disc of their 2003 'Very Best Of' collection - this is the 'Groove Collision TMC Mix'... Enjoy!

'(Keep Feeling) Fascination' was followed with 'Mirror Man' and by the time they got into 'Don't You Want Me' the band was at risk of being totally drowned out by the crowd singing along! They did pretty much every song a fan would want to hear - the only other songs I wished they might have played were 'The Things That Dreams Are Made Of' and 'Louise' - which I have a total soft spot for - but then it wasn't much of a hit here in North America anyway.

The first encore featured Philip alone for a rendition of one of their earliest singles 'Being Boiled' - which was first released in 1978. Susan and Joanne then returned for a song originally credited to Giorgio Moroder and Philip Oakey - that has since become a concert staple for the band - 'Together In Electric Dreams'.

As a massive fan I loitered around afterwards in hopes of getting my '21st Anniversary Edition' of 'Dare' & 'Love And Dancing' autographed but the band slipped out too quickly. Luckily they were selling copies of 'Credo' - both regular and autographed - earlier so I picked up an autographed one (and a t-shirt of course) just in case they were in a hurry.

All in all it was pretty flawless show - my one small criticism would be that they didn't have any high tech lighting to match their high tech equipment - they just used the rather outdated house system at the Rickshaw. And no disrespect intended as both Joanne and Susan are amazing - pure class, but Susan needs to eat more or something - some of her outfits did not flatter her near anorexic frame. More importantly though, everyone's vocals are in fine form and if The Human League comes to town I highly recommend checking them out!

Here's the most extended of all the extended versions I've ever found of their signature song 'Don't You Want Me' - clocking in at 11 and a half minutes - this is the super extended 'Tommy Reye Remix'... Enjoy!

Here's the full 17 song setlist performed on Sept. 11th, 2011:

Never Let Me Go
Open Your Heart
Sound Of The Crowd
Heart Like A Wheel
The Lebanon
Egomaniac
Empire State Human
Night People
Human
Love Action
All I Ever Wanted
Tell Me When
(Keep Feeling) Fascination
Mirror Man
Don't You Want Me

encore:

Being Boiled
Together In Electric Dreams
