SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! The B-52's! Moby!

SummersRadio™ Rare Remix! The B-52's - 'Good Stuff' (Schottische Mix)

The B-52's are performing at the River Rock Casino in Vancouver tonight! The new wave/ dance rock pioneers released their debut single 'Rock Lobster' in 1978 - thirty five years ago - and it reached number one in Canada the following year.

'Good Stuff' is the title track from their sixth studio album which was released in 1992. The cd single featured a number of remixes - including one from an up and coming electronica artist named Moby - who released his debut album the same year.

The energy level in Moby's 'Schottische Mix' is insanely high - and I love it when Kate Pierson shouts 'disco version'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Video! Moby & Mark Lanegan!

SummersRadio™ New Music/ Video! Moby & Mark Lanegan - 'The Lonely Night' (Official Video)

Moby and Mark Lanegan have just released a new EP today called 'The Lonely Night'! 'The Lonely Night' EP features four tracks - the original plus three remixes from Photek, Gregor Treshor, and one from Moby himself. The song was released as a limited 7 inch single on Saturday on his own Little Idiot label for Record Store Day - and the full EP is available exclusively on Beatport as of today: http://www.beatport.com/release/the-lonely-night/1071897

The song has an eerie, ominous feel to it - Moby describes the production process: “…and in producing the song, spike stent and i incorporated some very unusual production techniques... we ran all of the instruments through a distortion pedal into a guitar amp. so really there are only 3 tracks: left channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, right channel through a distortion pedal and guitar amp, and mark's vocals.  The end result is intentionally very broken and atmospheric."

This is the equally mesmerizing video for 'The Lonely Night' directed by time-lapse photographer Colin Rich... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Moby & The Loops Of Fury!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Moby & The Loops Of Fury - Para (Radio Edit)

Moby & The Loops Of Fury have just released a new EP today called 'Para'! The 'Para' EP features five tracks including the original mix and a radio edit of the title track plus three remixes - from Mumbai Science, Sound Of Stereo and Baskerville. It's the first release on The Loops Of Fury's new label called Lotus Recordings and it's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/release/para-ep/1052004

'Para' is pretty rowdy for Moby these days - it's easy to hear the influence of The Loops Of Fury - a duo from London who are 'obsessed with Rave'. 'Para' is a full on sonic assault that will blow the speakers right off of your flying car... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix + Bonus Tracks! Moby!

SummersRadio™ New Remix! Moby featuring Inyang Bassey - 'The Right Thing' (Sharam Jey Remix)/ Donna Summer - 'I Feel Love' (Patrick Cowley Remix)/ Moby - 'Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?' Moby has just released a new EP this week - for the latest single(s) from his 'Destroyed' album! The EP is a double A-side release for the songs 'The Right Thing' and 'After' - featuring five remixes of 'The Right Thing' and two of 'After' - making them the third and fourth singles respectively from his 'Destroyed' album, released on his own Little Idiot label.

If there's one thing I've learned about music it's that everything is a product of everything that's come before it. New songs (or portions of them) will almost always sound something like some older song - be it unintentional, inspired by, or simply a complete ripoff! And in clubland there's one song that's been imitated and duplicated far too many times to count - and justifiably so - Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love'. Today we have example # 3,789 (I counted) :) with the new 'Sharam Jey' remix of 'The Right Thing' (please note that this version is edited slightly - you get an extra minute and 15 seconds of disco flavored goodness on the EP!) ... Enjoy!

Bonus Track #1! Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' was released as a single in the summer of 1977 at the height of the disco era - however there are some who say (myself included) that this song was also the birth of techno! The reason for this is as follows - previous disco hits had always included a backing band and/ or orchestra - but 'I Feel Love' was the first song of it's kind to use an entirely synthesized backing track.

The song was written by Summer - along with producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte - and first appeared on her concept album called 'I Remember Yesterday'. The album featured seven songs (plus one reprise) - five of which were released as singles. The following year Patrick Cowley remixed and extended the track from just under six minutes to 15:45 - and in the process (aside from perhaps the guitar solo) further developed it's techno blueprint. Most instrumental parts of this song stand up just fine against some of this year's finest new releases on labels like 1605 - and this remix is flipping 33 years old! This is the 'Patrick Cowley Remix' of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' in it's full unedited glory... Enjoy!

Bonus Track #2! I had lunch with Moby once - he didn't eat anything though. True story. Picture it... Vancouver - summer of 1999. His album 'Play' had been released just two months prior and was selling modestly at best - but there were a few pockets in the country where it was doing really well including here (it later went on to sell over 10 million copies worldwide). 'Bodyrock' had just been released as the second single, and as part of the album's promotion his record company arranged a meet and greet luncheon for selected music industry types. I remember thinking about what I might say to him when we first met - and how funny it was just thinking of saying the words 'Hi Moby'!

The lunch turned out to be a bit of an embarrassment for the record company - as it was well known that Moby was a vegan - and the restaurant didn't have anything on their menu that was! He asked for a few different options that they couldn't really accommodate - and then they offered to make a salad but that's not what he wanted, so he just had water! The coolest part was when I asked him if 'Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?' might be a future single because it was my favorite song on the album - and he said that it was going to be the next single and that they were making a fully animated video for it!

Here's the video for Moby's classic track 'Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?' - featuring vocals sampled from a 1953 recording by The Shining Light Gospel Choir - and the animated introduction of his rather cute 'Little Idiot' character... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Moby!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Moby - 'Victoria Lucas' On Thursday I featured a Pet Shop Boys remix by Moby from 1991 - before he had even released his debut album. Fast forward two decades and now he's set to release his new studio album - his twelfth - in May! It's called 'Destroyed' - contains 15 tracks - and is out on May 16th. He describes the album as "broken down melodic electronic music for empty cities at 2 a.m". He's also releasing a book of photos - the first collection he's ever compiled - also called 'Destroyed'.

As a taster for the album he's released a 3 song EP called 'Be The One'. It contains the title track (featured in the movie 'The Next 3 Days'), one called 'Sevastopol' (a city in the Ukraine) and this song called 'Victoria Lucas' (which was writer Sylvia Plath's pseudonym). All three songs are also featured on the album and he's decided to make the EP available for free from his official website here: http://www.moby.com/journal/2011-02-15/destroyed.html

He's also started a section on his website called mobygratis.com (http://mobygratis.com/film-music.html) where he offers music for free to filmmakers and film students who seek music for their non-profit film, video or short. He also makes it available to commercial artists, but asks that any money made be given to the Human Society - a very cool idea!

He's made his own homemade videos for each of the 3 songs on the 'Be The One' EP - this is both my favorite song and video of the bunch - 'Victoria Lucas' - Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Pet Shop Boys!

SummersRadio™ Classic! Pet Shop Boys - 'Miserablism' (Moby Electro Mix) This particular remix of 'Miserablism' by a young man named Richard Melville Hall - better known as Moby - was first released in 1991. It was available as the b-side to their 'Was It Worth It' 12" in the U.K. and included on the U.S. maxi cd single only, until 1995 when it appeared on their double cd set called 'Alternative' which was a compilation of the b-sides from their first 30 (!) singles - in chronological order! (to date they've had 42 singles chart in the top 30 on the U.K. charts!) I consider this to be both one of their best b-sides - and their best remixes... Enjoy!
