SummersRadio™ New Remix! Death Cab For Cutie - 'Black Sun' (Dan Deacon Remix)
Death Cab For Cutie have posted a new remix of their track 'Black Sun' online! 'Black Sun' was the lead single from their latest album 'Kintsugi', which was released in March on Atlantic. This new version is remixed by Baltimore's electronic/ experimental artist Dan Deacon.
There's no word yet on whether or not this remix will be available commercially - thus far it's only been posted on Soundcloud.
This 'Dan Deacon Remix' sends Death Cab For Cutie out on a full scale space rock adventure... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! The Postal Service - 'A Tattered Line Of String'
The Postal Service have just revealed a new/ previously unreleased song called 'A Tattered Line Of String' online today! Although the duo consisting of Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and Dntel's Jimmy Tamborello recently announced that they were reuniting for a series of live dates including performing at Coachella, Ben Gibbard has insisted repeatedly that there are no plans whatsoever to record a second album.
So it's a good thing then to discover that the tracklisting for the remastered Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition of their debut 'Give Up' will include two previously unreleased songs recorded during the original album sessions.
Here's the tracklisting for the 15 track bonus disc on the 10th Anniversary Edition two cd Deluxe Edition of 'Give Up' released on April 8th (U.K.)/ 9th (North America):
Disc 2 'Turn Around' 'A Tattered Line of String' 'Be Still My Heart' 'There’s Never Enough Time' 'Suddenly Everything Has Changed' 'Against All Odds (Take a Look At Me Now)' 'Grow Old With Me' 'Such Great Heights' (John Tejada Remix) 'The District Sleeps Alone Tonight' (DJ Downfall Persistent Beat Mix) 'Be Still My Heart' (Nobody Remix) 'We Will Become Silhouettes' (Matthew Dear Remix) 'Nothing Better' (Styrofoam Remix) 'Recycled Air' (Live on KEXP) 'We Will Become Silhouettes' (Performed by The Shins) 'Such Great Heights' (Performed by Iron and Wine) The Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition will also be available as a download and on a limited edition triple vinyl set (red, clear and white) which you can pre-order here: http://store.cinderblock.com/the-postal-service/give-up-pre-order
Both of the first two previously unreleased tracks feature backing vocals from Jenny Lewis. This is 'A Tattered Line Of String' - a fine electro pop song - and likely the closest we'll ever get to hearing a brand new Postal Service track (available now on itunes)... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Benjamin Gibbard - 'Teardrop Windows'
Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard (now going as Benjamin) has just released a new song online called 'Teardrop Windows'! 'Teardrop Windows' is the first single released from his forthcoming twelve song debut solo album called 'Former Lives', which is scheduled for release on Oct. 15th (U.K. & Europe)/ 16th (North America) on Barsuk Records. You can pre-order the album now here: http://store.cinderblock.com/benjamin-gibbard
Regarding the songs on 'Former Lives' Gibbard says"These songs span eight years, three relationships, living in two different places, drinking then not drinking... They're a side story, not a new chapter."
'Teardrop Windows' is a tribute to Seattle's oldest skyscraper - the Smith Tower - a 38 storey building in Pioneer Square that was completed in 1914. If the song is to your liking Benjamin's made it available as a free download on Soundcloud for a limited time - simply click on the download icon below... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix + Bonus Track + Free Download! Death Cab For Cutie - 'You Are A Tourist' (The 2 Bears Remix)/ The 2 Bears - 'Bear Hug' (Cristoff Remix) You may be thinking 'hey - didn't you just post a new DCFC remix last week'? Why yes, I did - as mentioned last week DCFC is releasing a new remix each week for a total of seven weeks - until their entire new 'Keys And Codes Remix EP' is officially released on November 22nd. I quite like DCFC but somewhat strangely I haven't felt compelled to buy their new album yet - it doesn't seem to be nearly as wonderful as 'Transatlanticism' or even 'Narrow Stairs' - it just sounds a bit watered down to me. However after hearing only two remixes I'm already committed to purchasing the full remix EP. So there's five remixes left - and if they're good - I'll post them too!
So this week's new remix is of their single 'You Are A Tourist' - by London's 2 Bears. The 2 Bears are a duo consisting of Raf Rundell and Hot Chip's Joe Goddard. This is an interesting remix - although I see that it's receiving a lot of flack in the youtube and itunes comments sections. But then a surprising number of people just don't get remixes anyway - sad, but true. I must admit that as a rule I'm generally not a fan of sped up vocals in a remix - and they are here. The effect is rather odd - it's almost like they're trying to make Ben Gibbard sound more like the Pet Shop Boy's Neil Tennant! But then when I first posted the video for 'You Are A Tourist' in April, I mentioned that I think that Gibbard also sounds like Jon Anderson (of Yes and Jon & Vangelis fame) when singing the line 'this fire grows higher'! Am I crazy or spot on?Anyway if you can get past the odd vocals, musically speaking this remix is top notch - and it has some awesome cowbell as well... Enjoy!
Bonus Track + Free Download! The 2 Bears released their third EP in May called 'Bear Hug' on Southern Fried Records. It's available in the U.K. - and in the U.S. on itunes, but somewhat annoyingly it's not on itunes here in Canada - however it is available on Beatport http://www.beatport.com/#release/bear-hug-ep/817869 - along with the 'Bear Hug Remixes' EP that came out in July. http://www.beatport.com/#release/bear-hug-remixes/392438
Here's an interesting remix of the title track from the 'Bear Hug' EP that I came across on Soundcloud by Manchester's Chris Massey aka cristoffmassey. If this superbly funky remix is to your liking you can download it for free courtesy of cristoffmassey here: http://soundcloud.com/cristoffmusic/the-2-bears-bear-hug-cristoff (or click the download arrow below)
This is the 'Cristoff Remix' of The 2 Bears track 'Bear Hug'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix! Death Cab For Cutie - 'Doors Unlocked And Open' (Cut Copy Remix) Bellingham's Death Cab For Cutie have just released a new remix on itunes today - and they've just announced that they're releasing a seven track remix EP next month! The EP is called the 'Keys And Codes Remix EP' - quite obviously featuring remixes of tracks from their 'Codes And Keys' album which was released at the end of May.
The 'Keys And Codes Remix EP' will be released on November 22nd - and starting today the band will unveil one new remix a week for seven weeks on their official website here: http://www.deathcabforcutie.com/
This is the brand new remix from Cut Copy - who performed two shows here in Vancouver on Friday and Saturday - of Death Cab For Cutie's 'Doors Unlocked And Open'... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello (aka Dntel and James Figurine) formed The Postal Service and released their debut album - and only full length release so far - in 2003. I suspect that the new 'Keys And Codes Remix EP' will be of some comfort to fans who've been waiting eight years for a follow up - at least to hear Ben Gibbard sing on some more electronic tracks.
This is The Postal Service's 'Nothing Better' - the 'Styrofoam Remix' - from the EP for 'We Will Become Silhouettes' which was the fourth single released from their 'Give Up' album. I love the female vocals on this song - which are provided by Seattle's Jen Wood of the Jen Wood Trio... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Death Cab For Cutie - 'Some Boys' Another new song from Death Cab For Cutie's new album has surfaced on the interweb! Their seventh studio album 'Codes And Keys' is set for release on May 31st. Not sure yet if this will be the follow up to the lead off single 'You Are A Tourist' - this is 'Some Boys'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Video! Death Cab For Cutie - 'You Are A Tourist' When I first posted Death Cab For Cutie's new single last week I mentioned their plans to record the video for it live in just one take - and here we have the finished product! Aside from the band members looking rather goofy when walking, it features some pretty cool lighting and plenty of talented dancers... Enjoy!
Bonus track! Mike Oldfield - 'In High Places' The opening vocal hook in 'You Are a Tourist' when Ben sings 'this fire grows higher' totally reminds me of this Mike Oldfield song 'In High Places'. 'In High Places' is from his 1983 release 'Crisis' and was co-written with - and features vocals from - Jon Anderson. Now that I listen to this again, it almost sounds like it could be a DCFC song - am I crazy? I think not... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Death Cab For Cutie - 'You Are A Tourist' Bellingham Washington's Death Cab For Cutie have released their new single online today! It's called 'You Are A Tourist' and it's the first single from their forthcoming new studio album (their seventh) called 'Codes And Keys', which is released on May 31st! It's available now on itunes - and they're also planning to record a video for the song on April 5th - in just one take! Tune into http://youareatourist.com/ next Tuesday at 4pm (Pacific time) to watch. It's scripted, so it could be flawless - but it's live and they're only doing one take, so who knows - but it's an interesting idea. Of course at his point we don't know if it's a straight ahead performance piece or something elaborate with special effects galore - either way they still have a week to practice though. This is 'You Are A Tourist'... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ New Remix + Free Download! Death Cab For Cutie - 'The New Year' (Germany Germany Remix) While there's still no official release date set for Death Cab For Cutie's new album it shouldn't be far off, as every article I've seen written on the subject lately says that it's due in the 'Spring'! It will be their seventh full length release and it's called 'Codes And Keys' and it's apparently going to be less guitar focused than previous albums. While we wait for new music from DCFC we can enjoy this new remix of 'The New Year' from 2003's 'Transatlanticism' album - by Victoria's Germany Germany - which you can download for free here: http://soundcloud.com/germanygermany/death-cab-for-cutie-the-new-year-germany-germany-remix ... Enjoy!
SummersRadio™ Classic! Dntel - 'Dream Of Evan And Chan' (Superpitcher Kompakt Remix) This song is from Dntel's 2001 album 'Life Is Full Of Possibilities'. What makes it a classic is that this track features vocals and lyrics from Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard - and it was this collaboration that led to the forming of the Postal Service and their debut release in 2003. This version is from the single released in 2002 - the 'Superpircher Kompakt Remix'... Enjoy!
