SummersRadio™ New Music! Comon!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Comon - 'Da Da Da' (Original Mix)
Comon has just released a new cover of Trio's 1982 classic 'Da Da Da'! Who is Comon (with one m) you may ask? According to the label Toolroom Records they are 'shrouded in mystery' and so they shall remain... for now. The single features this 'Original Mix' and a remix from Tom Flynn - although one might argue that this is more of a remix than a cover anyway- as it samples the original quite extensively. It's currently available exclusively on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/#release/comon-da-da-da/919883
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the original 'Da Da Da' which became a hit all over the world and has been recorded in several languages. It was Trio's only hit outside of Germany and the group disbanded just two years later in 1984. The song became popular again in 1997 when it was used in a Volkswagen commercial.
Comon utilizes keyboard samples and vocals from the original German version of the song but updates it wonderfully for 2012 as a groovy tech house number... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + New Remix! Manuel De La Mare & Alex Kenji! + Hardfloor!
SummersRadio™ New Music + New Remix! Manuel De La Mare & Alex Kenji - 'Acid As 303' (Original Club Mix)/ Hardfloor - 'Acperience 1' (Robert Babicz Spacefunk Remix)
Italy's Manuel De La Mare and Alex Kenji have just released the first acid techno monster club tune of 2012! 'Acid As 303' was just released on Monday and in just five days it's already lept into the top 3 on Beatport's top 100 techno chart. The one track single is released on Toolroom Records - and the label aptly describes the song as a 'beast of a tune'.
This is the 'Original Club Mix' of the rather awesome song 'Acid As 303'... Enjoy!
Bonus Track! Hardfloor - 'Acperience 1' (Robert Babicz Spacefunk Remix)
Germany's Hardfloor have released a new remix of their acid techno classic 'Acperience 1'! 'Acperience 1' first appeared as the first of four numbered versions of the track on the 'Hardtrance Acperience EP', which was released in 1992 on the Harthouse label.
Last month they released the new 'Two Decades Edition' EP of the track on their own self titled label. The EP features two tracks - this new remix from Robert Babicz, plus the original. This is the 'Robert Babicz Spacefunk Remix' of 'Acperience 1' - it's pretty faithful to the original, as perhaps should be the case with such a classic - but it also has just enough different bits to keep it fresh...
Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Remix vs Classic Remix! Chemical Brothers!
SummersRadio™ New Remix vs Classic Remix! Prok & Fitch vs Juan Kidd - 'Star Guitar' (Festival Mix)/ Chemical Brothers - 'Star Guitar' (Pete Heller's Expanded Mix) Our last episode of New Remix vs Classic Remix was back in May with the Scott Grooves (featuring Parliament) classic track 'Mothership Reconnection' which you can revisit here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/05/summersradio-new-remix-vs-classic-remix.html
I chose to compare the two remixes because I didn't feel that the new remix quite stood up to the original remix - such is the case again today with 'Star Guitar' - and once again I shall post both versions so that you can decide for yourself! In both cases it's also an excellent excuse to post a club classic :)
'Star Guitar' was the second single released from the Chemical Brothers fourth album 'Come With Us' in 2002. The single and 12" featured the original (as it came out before the album itself - the album version is a bit shorter) as well as remixes from Pete Heller. Just this week a new remix has been released by Prok & Fitch vs Juan Kidd called the 'Festival Mix' on Toolroom Records - which strangely doesn't mention the Chemical Brothers on the artwork at all. So is it a cover version then, or a remix - or was it done at the bands request because it's rather pointless? Who knows!
In the case of Scott Grooves I clearly preferred the original Daft Punk remix to the newer one by Claude VonStroke - although I could at least see why they did a new remix of it - as it was part of Soma's 20th Anniversary reissues celebration - but in this case I have one question... WHY?
So in this corner we have the new 'Festival Mix' of 'Star Guitar' by Prok & Fitch vs Juan Kidd - Enjoy...
And in this corner we have the classic remix from Pete Heller - the 'Pete Heller Expanded Remix'... Enjoy!
So which one do you prefer? Of course not all new remixes are better than the originals - or the original remixes - but in most cases they have some new sounds or something interesting to offer. The vocals in the new version sound rather flat and the only new interesting bit in the 'Festival Mix' is the semi-siren sound that begins aroound 3:30 - is that a sufficient reason to remix (or cover) a classic?
SummersRadio™ says no.

SummersRadio™ New Music! Hertz!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Hertz - 'Red Ryder' (Original Club Mix) Hertz are Pierre Jerksten and Petter Borgesson - a duo from Sweden. 'Red Ryder' is another exclusive new track on the new compilation called 'Toolroom Knights' - mixed by 1065 Music Therapy label boss Umek! Don't mind the brief Toolroom Records voiceovers - there are just two and then one at the end. And as always if you like the music please support the artist and buy the track! ('Toolroom Knights' is available on both itunes and Beatport) Although marketed here (on this Toolroom clip which loops to hypnotize you almost as much as the music!) as a house compilation, the 38 song set includes a wide range of sounds. 'Red Ryder' is equal parts techno and 80's style electro/disco... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Umek vs Phntm!
SummersRadio™ New Music! Umek vs Phntm - 'Dead Space' Uros Umek aka “Fotr” – 'the Father of Slovenian techno and electronic culture' - has just released a new compilation on the U.K. label Toolroom Records today! It's called 'Toolroom Knights' - has 38 tracks - and is mixed by Umek. It contains plenty of new and exclusive tracks including this collaboration between Umek & French dj/ producer Phntm called 'Dead Space'. I like the use of the classic 70's disco horns on this one... Enjoy!
