SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2013 Halloween Spectacular! Classic! Air!

SummersRadio™ STARTLEFEST 2013 Halloween Spectacular! Classic! Air - 'Suicide Underground'

Startlefest 2013 continues... with the closing track from the score of the 1999 film 'The Virgin Suicides'. The film was based on the book by Jeffrey Eugenides, it was directed by Sophia Coppola and it was produced by her father Francis Ford Coppola.

The score was written by French duo Air - and the final track on the score features a portion of the film's narration - pitched down - and set to their music to create an eerie finish... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Solar Bears - 'Oceans Bleeding Through' (includes free download)/ Solar Bears Featuring Beth Hirsch - 'Our Future Is Underground'

Dublin's Solar Bears have just released a new song online called 'Oceans Bleeding Through'! The song was recorded during the sessions for their second album 'Supermigration' - which was released last month on the Planet Mu label - although it does not appear on the album.

They've just posted 'Oceans Bleeding Through' on Soundcloud today and if it's to your liking you can download a copy for free here: https://soundcloud.com/solar_bears/oceans-bleeding-through (or click on the download icon below) I suggest following them on Soundcloud as they repost some of the finest music from other interesting new artists as well.

'Oceans Bleeding Through' is an intriguing and soothing instrumental track reminiscent of some of Air's finest work... Enjoy!

Bonus Track! 'Our Future Is Underground' is one of the standout tracks from their new album 'Supermigration' - it features guest vocals from Beth Hirsch who sang on Air's 'Moon Safari' gem 'All I Need'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Bonus Tracks! Air!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Bonus Tracks! Air - 'Cosmic Trip'/ 'Sonic Armada'/ 'Playground Love (Vibraphone Version)/ (Nosferatu Mix By Flower Pistols)

Air is everywhere. It's true - even as I'm writing this a commercial just came on for a Samsung Galaxy tabletphone featuring their song 'Alone In Kyoto' - which was first featured in the 2003 film 'Lost In Translation' - and included on their 2004 album 'Talkie Walkie'. Although I've already featured four songs from their new album 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' including the first single 'Seven Stars' back in December: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/12/summersradio-new-music-air-featuring.html and three other standout tracks 'Astronomic Club', 'Parade', and 'Lava' on the day the album was released (in North America) last month: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2012/02/summersradio-new-music-air.html I'm going to feature a couple more tracks from it today - because it's that good!

I've been listening to the cd several times this weekend - and I found a solution to my one criticism of it - that it's a bit short - as it clocks in at a mere 31 minutes and 22 seconds. I've discovered that if you play the recording on repeat several times that it sounds much longer - and strangely familiar :)

So lets travel deeper dans la lune - 'join us with no fear on our fantastic trip to the moon'. This is the ninth track on the album called 'Cosmic Trip' which features some wonderful xylophone style synth sounds and some truly cosmic backing strings action... Enjoy!

This is the fifth track on 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' called 'Sonic Armada' - an instrumental jam featuring an electric sitar and synths that occasionally sound like a record scratching - perhaps the closest Air will ever come to writing a Beastie Boys tune... Enjoy!

Bonus Tracks! Of course 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' is not Air's first foray into film inspired recordings - there was of course their score to the 2000 film 'The Virgin Suicides' - which included the single 'Playground Love'.

'Playground Love' was cowritten with - and features the lead vocals of - Gordon Tracks. Here are two very different remixes of the song - starting with the instrumental 'Vibraphone Version' which was released as a bonus track on the Japanese version of the cd, and on the 'Playground Love' EP/ single... Enjoy!

This is another remix from the 'Playground Love' EP - the 'Nosferatu Remix By Flower Pistols' - a radically remodeled version featuring some drug induced saxamaphone and even some cowbell... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Air!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Air - 'Astronomic Club'/ 'Parade'/ 'Lava'

Air have just released their new album called 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune'! 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' or 'A Trip To The Moon' is their seventh studio album and the follow up to 2009's 'Love 2'. It includes the first single 'Seven Stars' which we featured in December - you can check out/ revisit the song here: http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2011/12/summersradio-new-music-air-featuring.html

The album - which was inspired by the classic 1902 black and white French film - is largely instrumental, and features just two vocal tracks. It's comparable to the sound of one of their other film-inspired recordings - 'The Virgin Suicides' - albiet it without such a heavy 70's influence. The music is actually rather diverse sounding overall so I've chosen three standout tracks to give you a sizeable taste.

The opening track is perhaps my favorite thus far as it features some trippy vocal samples and amazing production - this is 'Astronomic Club'... Enjoy!

This is track 4 on the new Air album, the fast paced, changeable 'Parade' - which is almost rowdy - as far as Air songs go that is :) Enjoy!

This is the closing track on the new 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' album called 'Lava' which features what one might call the classic Air sound... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Air featuring Victoria Legrand!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Air featuring Victoria Legrand - 'Seven Stars' Air are releasing a new album called 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' ('A Trip To The Moon') in February - and the first new song from it has surfaced online! The 11 track album is set for release on February 6th and will be available in several formats - as a single cd, a limited cd plus bonus dvd combo, and as a digital download.

The album was inspired by the French silent black and white science fiction film from 1902 which was written and directed by Georges Melies. A newly restored hand-coloured version of the film was released earlier this year featuring new music from Air - which they later decided to extend into a full length album. The 16 minute film will be included with both the limited dvd and digital releases.

The album features two collaborations - a song called 'Who Am I Now?' features Brooklyn's Au Revior Simone and 'Seven Stars' features Victoria Legrand from Baltimore's Beach House.

Here's the full tracklisting:

  1. "Astronomic Club"
  2. "Seven Stars" (with Victoria Legrand)
  3. "Retour sur terre"
  4. "Parade"
  5. "Moon Fever"
  6. "Sonic Armada"
  7. "Who Am I Now?" (with Au Revior Simone)

SummersRadio™ New Music! Boys Noize & Erol Alkan featuring Jarvis Cocker!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Boys Noize & Erol Alkan featuring Jarvis Cocker - 'Avalanche (Terminal Velocity)' Well this is quite the collaboration - Germany's Alexander Ridha aka Boys Noize, London's Erol Alkan, and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker are three very talented musical gentlemen - so perhaps not surprisingly this is a uniquely powerful track - there is nothing else quite like it!

'Avalanche' began it's existence as an instrumental track by Boys Noize & Erol Alkan that was released as a single in April of last year. This new recording features the vocals of Jarvis Cocker and has been slighty renamed 'Avalanche (Terminal Velocity)'.

I've enjoyed Jarvis's forays into electronic music in recent years - including recording two songs with Air on their 2007 album 'Pocket Symphony' - and more recently last year's collaboration with Discodeine, which you can revist here:
http://summersradio.blogspot.com/2010/12/summersradio-new-music-discodeine-feat.html

This is 'Avalanche (Terminal Velocity)'... Enjoy!
