SummersRadio™ Best Of 2011 Countdowns! Part One: Top 25 Rock & Indie! #'s 25 - 21! It's time to begin SummersRadio™'s Best Of 2011 countdowns! They shall be divided into two parts - part one consisting of 25 Rock & Indie tracks - and part two consisting of 25 Electronic and Club tracks! Of course it's not always easy to classify songs and such practices can be limiting, but at the same time it doesn't seem right to me to compare (as an example) a Umek track along side one from Arcade Fire - as it's like comparing bananas to pears. :)
So while the Top 25 Rock & Indie list may include a couple songs that are electronic based and the Top 25 Electronic & Club list may include some full on club remixes of rock and indie songs - the purpose is to generally separate the songs primarily designed for the feet from those for the heart and mind. Either way, when it comes down to it both lists are for your ears (which are connected to the mind in most humans) and truthfully speaking one can really dance to anything if you choose to (so the feet need never be left out) so this was done mainly for flowing purposes, so I hope you enjoy this year's Best Of 2011 countdowns!
To eliminate any unnecessary nattering and focus on the music itself I will simply post each song sans any additional comments - but I will include the original link in each case should you wish to find out more information. I will also make note of any songs that (still) feature valid free legal download links for your enjoyment. So prepare yourself then for numerous hours of quality music featuring SummersRadio™'s selections for the Best Of 2011 - starting with Part One: Top 25 Rock & Indie... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Siskiyou!
SummersRadio™ New Music + Free Download! Siskiyou - 'Always Awake'/ 'Not The Kind' SummersRadio™ reached a new milestone today as far as total views go - hoo-ray! Many thanks to everyone who's enjoyed the music so far - and always feel free to share links with friends to spread the good sounds - Cheers! So today we shall celebrate with not just one, but two new posts featuring new music - this one features some fine local Vancouver talent - and a bonus free download!
Vancouver's Siskiyou is a four piece band led by Colin Hubert - a former member of Great Lake Swimmers - and also includes Erik Arnesen (who's still a member of GLS), Shaunn Watt and Peter Carruthers. Their label Constellation Records have just released the 'Constellation Records 2011 Sampler' on Soundcloud. It features 13 tracks - including a track from each full length album they've released this year, plus some digital only singles.
Siskiyou's song 'Always Awake' is one of two of the band's tracks on the compilation - and if it's to your liking you can download a copy of the song for free from the label's website here: http://cstrecords.com/new-track-siskiyou-always-awake/
Siskiyou notes Guided By Voices as an influence and have been compared to Neil Young, but this song is a bit more experimental and leans more towards Roger Waters and Pink Floyd territory. 'Always Awake' is well suited to a late Sunday evening (or early Monday morning) with it's dark atmospherics. It's beautiful - but sad - further evidence for my studies that proove there is beauty in sadness - including depression. I love the distant sound of the outside rain in the background too... Enjoy!

Bonus Track! Siskiyou - 'Not The Kind' In addition to 'Always Awake' released this month - Siskiyou also recently released their second album called 'Keep Away The Dead' on October 3rd. The album features ten songs - and with titles like 'Fiery Death', 'So Cold' and 'Dead Right Now' - it's not a Friday night party album - well maybe for the comedown part :) It may seem dark but if you lend it your ear you shall be rewarded with some truly beautiful music.
'Not The Kind' is one of my favorite songs from their new album - the lyrics only have one line - but it's a powerful one that can be taken several ways. Some of their more uptempo songs resemble those of Arcade Fire, but I prefer their more atmospheric tunes like this one... Enjoy!
