SummersRadio™ New Music/ Video! Arcade Fire - 'Reflektor'
Arcade Fire have just released their new single and video 'Reflektor' online! 'Reflektor' was officially released last night (9/9) at 9pm - Montreal time (2am here in London). If you're keen you may have anticipated this post today - as we did finish yesterday off with Tears For Fears covering Arcade Fire.
'Reflektor' is the first single and title track from the band's forthcoming fourth album which is produced by James Murphy and is set for release on October 29th on Merge Records. 'Reflektor' is expected to be a double album as the songs are currently numbered 1 - 7 and 1 - 6 for pre-order on iTunes.
Here is the album cover art:
This is the official video for 'Reflektor' directed by Anton Corbijn - featuring lots of shiny things! You see I believe that Arcade Fire secretly want to be disco stars - really. First there was the remarkable similarity between their song 'Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)' and Blondie's 'Heart Of Glass' - if you think that statement sounds crazy you can revisit this Hood Internet mashup for proof: http://summersradio.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/summersradio-new-mashup-free-download.html
Secondly there's fact that they've enlisted James Murphy (formerly of LCD Soundsystem) as producer - who's well known for infusing indie rock with dance sensibilities. And thirdly we have this video - filled with disco balls - disco outfits, disco shacks - even a discofied coffin - and they're totally raving in the woods around 5:45 in!
I look forward to seeing if there are any official remixes of this track forthcoming (those gurgly bits around 2:40 in would lend well to a techno remix) and even if there aren't, there will most certainly be a number of unofficial remixes heading our way very soon I reckon... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! The Magnetic Fields - 'The Horrible Party'/ 'God Wants Us To Wait'/ 'Andrew In Drag' (video)
Boston's Magnetic Fields are performing in Vancouver tonight! When I last posted The Magnetic Fields it was in December to announce this show - but there wasn't any new music available at the time, so instead I posted three of my favorites from the band which you can check out here: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2011/12/summersradio-concert-news-magnetic.html
Their new album 'Love At The Bottom Of The Sea' was released on March 6th on Merge Records. The 15 track album is available on download, as well as on cd and vinyl. Now I wanted to post my favorite song from it first - 'The Horrible Party' - as it seemed most fitting for an ironic post St. Patrick's Day post - and not only for the song title itself - both the musical backing and singer Claudia Gonson's delivery sound almost Irish.
But alas, 'The Horrible Party' is not available for sharing anywhere. I tried to upload it to Soundcloud (with the download function disabled - as always) but it was blocked by EMI Australia. I must say that it's a sad state of affiars with all the modern technology we have, that you can't simply play a song for someone - unless you use illegal file sharing sites - which I've never endorsed. All I want to do is allow people to hear it - not steal it - just listen to it in hopes that they'll like it, and consider buying it. I'm having a deja-vu here - you can check out my recent rant against UMG and the new Arcade Fire track here if you missed it: http://summersradio.blogspot.ca/2012/03/summersradio-new-music-arcade-fire.html
*UPDATE* 'The Horrible Party'! The last line of the song is the clincher... Enjoy!
So - on to my next favorite track on the new album then - which is available to share on Youtube - for now anyway!
This is the album's opening song called 'God Wants Us To Wait'... Enjoy!
'Andrew In Drag' is the first official single - and video - from the new album. It features some catchy lyrics - although I've never been a fan of the f-bomb - and I don't mean fuck :) 'Andrew In Drag' is also available as a 7" vinyl single - I like the slight variation on the album's covert art for it's artwork:
This is the video for their latest single 'Andrew In Drag'... Enjoy!

SummersRadio™ New Music! Stephin Merrit! The 6th's - 'Riot In The Sun'/ The Magnetic Fields - 'Take Ecstasy With Me' (Alternate Version)
Stephin Merritt has just released a new collection of largely unreleased material called 'Obscurities' today! 'Obscurities' features 14 rare, out of print, and previously unreleased tracks from Stephin Merritt's solo work (five songs) - as well as from some of his various guises - The 6ths (two), The Gothic Archies (one), Buffalo Roam - which features vocals from Shirley Simms (one) and of course The Magnetic Fields (five songs).
'Obscurities' is fairly evenly split between Merritt's trademark sparse acoustic tunes and his drifty indie synth numbers - this one falling into the latter category. This is the fifth track on 'Obscurities' - from the 6ths - called 'Rot In The Sun' which was first released as the b-side to brilliantly titled 'Heaven In A Black Leather Jacket' single from 1993... Enjoy!
'Take Ecstasy With Me' is a track from The Magnetic Fields album 'Holiday' which was released in 1994. In this alternate version the vocals are sung by longtime contributor Susan Anway instead of Merritt - it first appeared on a compilation in 1999 called 'oh merge' which celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Merge Records label - this is track 12 on 'Obscurities'... Enjoy!
