SummersRadio™ New Music! Thievery Corporation - 'Take My Soul'/ 'Stargazer'/ 'Fragments' Washington D.C. duo Thievery Corporation release their new studio album of original material - their sixth - today! The album is called 'Culture Of Fear' and features their trademark mix of styles including downtempo, trip hop, dub, reggae, acid jazz, hip hop and lounge music. It contains 13 tracks - with a mix of vocal numbers and a few instrumentals. Vocalists include longtime collaborators Lou Lou and Sleepy Wonder - as well as several new contributors including Mr. Lif, Ras Puma, Shana Halligan (of Bitter:Sweet) and newcomer Kota.
Their website describes the new album as 'a simmering and hazy collection of atmospheric gems that recalls their early production work but reflects a thoroughly contemporary zeitgeist of socio-political angst and unease.' Rob Garza and Eric Hilton are never ones to shy away from politics, and both the album title ('Culture Of Fear') and the artwork - featuring a large 'hidden' camera - are common words and objects of discussion in today's society. This point is further driven home with song titles like the album opener 'Web Of Deception' and the seven minute plus instrumental called 'Tower Seven' - named after the 47 storey building which collapsed on 9/11 even though it wasn't hit by a plane.
Despite it's political overtones the album musically speaking is chock full of relaxing beats, and is released just in time for some summer chillin' in the sun. Here are three standout tracks from 'Culture Of Fear' - first up we have 'Take My Soul'... Enjoy!
This is the fifth track on the album - one of a couple reggae tunes - called 'Stargazer'... Enjoy!
I like the overall spacey feel of this instrumental number - the eleventh track on the album - called 'Fragments'... Enjoy!
